The police in Plateau on Tuesday confirmed that multiple attacks were carried out on four communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

The report said many people were confirmed dead with several others injured in the attacks on the communities.

Mrs Felicia Anselem, the spokesperson of the command in Jos said that the attacks were carried at about 1 a.m.

“The attacks were carried out concurrently at four different locations at Rawuru, Tasu, Foron and Gurabok.

“There are many people dead and several others injured, but we cannot give the exact number of the casualties yet because our men are collating the figures,’’ Anselem said.

The spokesperson, however, said that the casualty figure would be publicised after collation.

Capt. Salisu Mustapha, the spokesperson of the Special Task Force (STF) in charge of security in Plateau also confirmed the attack.

Mustapha said the STF was still gathering the details of the incident and could not give the casualty figures.

“I will give the details of the incident as soon as we have them,’’ he said.

NAN reports that before the incidents, there were two other attacks in Barkin Ladi and Shendam local government areas in the last five days.

The police had said five people were killed in those attacks. (NAN)

Some chiefs and residents of Ilashe Ijesa in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State on Thursday narrated how the monach of the town, Oba Adesina Anibijuwon, was killed by suspected members of Odua People’s Congress, who allegedly strangled him and left his corpse inside his residence which they set ablaze. Those who recovered his corpse from the building said the charred remains of Anibijuwon were taken to the mortuary at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Osogbo by Osun Ambulance Service at around 10.30pm on Wednesday. The ambulance that conveyed the remains of the monarch was said to have been escorted to the mortuary by armed policemen and some residents. The residents feared that those who killed him might want to seize his corpse. Some residents who also spoke with our correspondent said the officials of the state fire service, who came to put out the inferno, ran out of water. Some residents wondered why some chiefs in the town went into hiding when the hoodlums invaded the palace, urging the police to interrogate them to see if they were culpable. The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Sunday Akere; his counterpart at the Ministry of Home, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Sikiru Ayedun; and the Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Amos Adekunle, who visited the town expressed shock on seeing the extent of damage done to the residence of the traditional ruler. Our correspondent, who also visited the town, observed that the upper floor of the two-storey building where the monarch resided was completely razed. One of the chiefs, Adejumo Operinmade, told newsmen that he was informed that some persons, who claimed to be OPC members, came and demanded to see the monarch, but they were told that he was asleep. He stated that the strange visitors came back and they pointed a gun to the head of the monarch’s housemaid. They allegedly went to late Anibijuwon’s room and strangled the octogenarian monarch who had been blind for over nine years. Operinmade said, “We were told that some gunmen who claimed to be OPC members came and wanted to see Kabiyesi but they were told that he was sleeping. “They came back and held the housemaid living with Kabiyesi hostage and went to where Kabiyesi was sleeping. But immediately they came out, fire started and Kabiyesi was burnt inside the house. His corpse was taken to the mortuary at LAUTECH.” The Sasore of Ilase, Chief Oluwagbemiga Oke, said there was no land dispute or chieftaincy tussle in the town, wondering why the suspected arsonists killed the monarch. Chief Jumoke Ogunkeyede, whose brother gave the burnt residence to the monarch, also said he heard that the hoodlums, who perpetrated the act, had an accident at the outskirts of the town while escaping from the scene. He said, “We heard that they came in a red Mazda 323 and their car veered off into the bush while they were speeding away. We called journalists from Osun State Broadcasting Corporation at Ibokun, but when they got there to take photographs of the car, they saw that the it had been set ablaze. “They also removed the number plate of the car. I believe that they set the car ablaze to hide their identities. But the police could still find a way of unraveling those behind the killing and arson.” The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, told our correspondent on the telephone that the command had commenced investigation into the matter. She said, “We are pleading with members of the public to always furnish police with information any time they suspect strange persons and movement in their areas. This will assist the police to prevent crimes.”

According to report from The Nation, President Goodluck Jonathan, who is on a trip to London for Nigeria’s Honorary International Investors’ Council meeting, has falling ill and could not attend opening session of the meeting on Thursday.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.

The President, who marked his birthday on Wednesday, has seen medical practitioners in London and advised to rest for a few days.

The statement reads: “In the course of his on-going visit to London for a meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investors’ Council, President Goodluck Jonathan became indisposed and could not be present at the opening of the meeting today.”

“President Jonathan has since been examined by competent medical practitioners. He has been advised to rest for a few days.”

“The Presidency wishes to assure all Nigerians that President Jonathan’s condition is nothing serious and that the medical attention he has sought is only precautionary.”

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Nwoye and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded for a total cancellation of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.

The call according to the two parties is based on ” the massive disenfranchisement of people across the state, caused by the blatant incompetent and/or deliberate sabotage by the electoral commission itself. ”
In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed,the party said the call for total cancellation supersedes its early call for a rerun in four local government areas,and is based on the report it received from its agents as well as from local and foreign observers during the poll.
It said that INEC, which was saddled with organizing the election, inexplicably used a voters’ register that is totally different from what it gave to political parties ahead of the election, with the result that the new register did not contain the names of most of the registered voters in the state.
Worse still, APC said, delivery of materials to the strongholds of the APC candidate, Senator Chris Ngige, was either done very late or not at all, a development that further robbed over 300,000 of his supporters in three key local governments of Idemili North, Idemili South and Awka South of their franchise.
”After consultations with our agents as well as with local and foreign observers, we have discovered that what we earlier complained about was a child’s play, compared to the widespread disenfranchisement that was orchestrated by the same body given the responsibility of ensuring a free, fair and creditable election on Saturday.
”We discovered that INEC has set up a multi-layer arrangement to ensure that most voters in the state were disenfranchised, apparently acting out a script to manipulate the result of the election in favour of a certain candidate. Where voting materials were supplied, the commission provided wrong voters’ register.
”Coming after the charade in Delta, this is a serious development that raises questions about the ability of INEC to conduct a free, fair and transparent elections anywhere in Nigeria. It is particularly serious because if people who registered to vote are not able to do so, and even the votes of those who managed to cast them do not count, then anarchy is looming,” the APC said.
It called for a probe of INEC to determine why it has taken it upon itself to sabotage its own elections, even when people are determined to endure the orchestrated inconveniences and shun all acts of violence, as was witnessed in Anambra on Saturday when people waited patiently and peacefully, only to go home in total disappointment.
”This is a new low for INEC, and unless something is done urgently, the electoral commission may plunge Nigeria into a crisis from which it may not recover,” APC warned.

The Skelewu crooner, Davido was backed out in the recently concluded Nigerian music video awards 2013(NMVA). It is disgusting that the almighty Skelewu video did not make the list of nominees lest to win any of the awards.... Sorry, did I say "Skelewu video"? VIDEOS!....lol.

Notwithstanding the nomination of his GOBE in the "Best Pop Extra Video" category and ALL OF YOU in the "Best Dance Hall/Reggae Video", non of them made it.

Instead, Flavour and Olamide were the talk of the day in the NMVA awards. Flavor lead the winners list with a total of 3 awards for his video Ada Ada, and Olamide followed close behind with 2.

My question is, is the Skelewu "Videos" not worth it? Atleast should be compensated for the money spent......LOL..
