Which Nzeagwu ? Nzeagwu that was killed early in the war?

The manuscript was handed over to Achebe sometime immediately before Ifeanjuna's arrest and execution.

Nzeagwu was long dead before the manuscript found its way into Achebe's possession.


Besides, the death of Nzeagwu was very suspicious as everything points to the fact that he was ordered by Ojukwu into an ambush at the Nnusaka sector .

.ifeanjuna knew that Ojukwu was set to eliminate him as well because he(Ifeanjuna) knew too much and was already communicating with Federal forces .


Ifeanjuna wanted to come clean and surrender to federal forces in exchange of turning prime witness.

I heard Odia Ofeimum has a copy of Ifeajuna's manuscript. Considering the level of closeness between Odia and Achebe, it is very possible that Achebe handed a copy to him with the instruction not to ever publish it. Whatever the case, Achebe did the truth a big blow by failing to publish Emma's script. The book would have offered a lot of clarity as to lots of gray areas about the coup. Most importantly, it would have put a lie to the popular believe that Nzeogwu was the leader of coup when in reality, Emma was the leader.

As long as that manuscript remains suppressed and hidden from history , it will continue to haunt those who wanted it to be suppressed.

All I can say is that according to Chinua Achebe, Ifeajuna was unapologetic, he was proud of his role in the coup and didn't bother with the cowardly denials.

Achebe refused to publish it because it gave more credence to the counter coup and Achebe saw that it wasn't good for propaganda (painting Igbos as innocent sheep).

I think Achebe was probably behind the manuscript destruction.

Achebe destroyed it immediately after reading it .

The propagandist did not want such information out.

I believe Ifeanjuna was singled out for elimination because he was a key witness to who bankrolled the coup .

Getting rid of ifeanjuna was an attempt to silence him and protect those who sponsored him in the first place

We will never know Ifeanjuna's recollection of events and why he did what he did all courtesy of Achebe who I believed had the manuscript entrusted to him destroyed after going through it all because it contained very damaging and incriminating information regarding what and who were behind the coup.

Ifeanjuna had sometime during the heat of the war saw reason to pen down his own version of events and had entrusted Chinue Achebe with a hand written manuscript with the instructions to have Achebe have it published.

That manuscript contained not just Ifeanjuna's recollection of events of the coup but provided reasons and justification for it. The manuscript also contained what was Ifeanjuna's manifesto.


In his book , There was a country , Achebe confirmed that he did receive Ifeanjuna's manuscript with instructions to have it published in future but Achebe outrightly refused to publish it after going through it and said the manuscript contained too much erroneous information coupled with leftist ideology.

By erroneous information, we should understand that Achebe - a serial liar and propagandists, did not like what ifeanjuna had to say regarding the events surrounding the coup and it's agenda.


I will Infer here that Ifeanjuna's manuscript dropped names and was critical of Ibo leaders at that time such as Ojukwu and Zik which did not fit to Achebe's ongoing tribal and hate filled propaganda.

Note that ifeanjuna wrote that manuscript because he knew his life was in danger not from federal forces that were closing in on Biafra but from Ojukwu himself. Ojukwu will later have ifeanjuna arrested, court martialed and executed for treason.

I keep saying it that Achebe remains the greatest liar to ever exist who refused to end his war held position as chief propagandist for the Biafran side.

A sane and reasonable leader would have called it quits and negotiated for peace but ojukwu decided to weaponise the impending hunger games to garner public sympathy and demand for a truce.

The next 2ys of conflict was one sided and the Nigerian federal forces carried out the war to the dictates of the meddling Geneva convention. If Nigerian federal forces had been allowed to go all out in a classical West African civil war mode, Biafra (or rather what was left of it) would have fell in at most 3 months.
