Our leaders need prayers. Ğod's will will be done in Nigeria. |
A peaceful demonstration is currently going on at the University Of Nigeria, Nsukka as at the time of this report following the sack of the Chairman of the University's Governing council, Emeka Enejere by the co-ordinating minister of Education, Mr Nyesom Wike yesterday. Others are also calling for the sack of the institution's Vice Chancellor, Professor Batho Okolo The suspension of Enejere was only announced on air without any reasons being made. Members of ASUU, NASU and NAT (National Association of Technologists) are currently protesting in the University. The protest started from the freedom square and they are now approaching the school gate as chanting continues. Police men were on ground and as at the time of this report, nothing less than seven (7) Police Hilux vehicles were following the protesters. Trouble started just after the ASUU Chapter of UNN rose from a meeting as a result of the suspension of the five months old strike which was called off yesterday. The School's Chief Security Officer, Mr. Uzoma had earlier attempted stopping the meeting from convening as he said it was an 'order from above'. UNN's ASUU chairman, Dr. Agada and other ASUU executives are leading the protest as they are preparing for a press conference just outside the school. The ASUU Chairman in a chat with the press has called for the immediate restoration of Enejere and the sack of the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Bartho Okolo This is coming just about a fortnight after the host community staged a demonstration that the University administration is treating them with impunity. http://informationforallage..com/2013/12/unn-lecturers-stage-protest-call-for.html

Another Source put the story this way: In what appears to be a mother-of-all protests, about three thousand indigenes of two host communities of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, stormed the University on Monday and held workers hostage for over 7 hours. The protesters from Owere-Eze Orba and Ajuonu Obukpa communities blocked every entrance to the administrative building of the UNN.Some youths from Owerre-Eze Orba had last two weeks protested the disconnection of the community from power supply by the university. However, sensing that the earlier protest was not yielding any result, elderly men and women, accompanied by several youths from the two communities made it impossible for any visitor or staff to gain entrance into the admin block, housing the office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Bartho Okolo. The leader of the group, who addressed journalists, Mr. Ndukwe Agbo said that for the past eight months, the university disconnected their light, and that every attempt by the community for the light to be restored ended on empty promises. “For over eight months, we have been in darkness. The university disconnected us on the excuse that with our light, the university would experience low voltage; they said we should buy our own transformers. We have done that, but reconnecting us has remained a problem”, he said. “This problem started since Prof Bartho Okolo became VC; previous vicechancellors did no such thing. “We have decided to sleep here unless the university immediately reconnects our electricity. We cannot continue to stay in darkness”, he added. Also speaking, the leader of the women, Mrs Nwachukwu Eze said that it was unfortunate that the university had refused to keep the agreement it entered with host communities. “I don’t know what we have done to the present VC that he is unleashing wickedness on the communities that donated land freely to the university. We will stay here until the university tells us when our light will be restored. “The university has failed in all the issues contained in the pact, no water, no employment to our people”, she lamented. Efforts by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof Malachy Okwueze to calm the protesters down failed as they continued shouting “we don’t want any talk, go and reconnected the light”. The tense situation later attracted the attention of the chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Mr. Tony Ugwu and his counterpart from Udenu Mr Godwin Abonyi. Addressing journalists after a meeting with the UNN management, which lasted about three hours, Abonyi described the situation as unfortunate. According to him, “I believe that the VC is being mis-informed. The director of works said re-connecting the communities will result in low voltage”. Abonyi said that he would contact the state government on the issue, adding that the state rural electrification board might be involved to connect the transformers of the communities, if UNN finally to do so. “We have discussed with the UNN management; the Udenu Council Area would ensure the problem is resolved soon”, he assured. The host community of the University today 2nd DEC 2013 held a protest to express their dissatisfaction with the university administration over what they termed disregard and inability to honour agreements reached by the founders and their fore-bearers. The protesters who came out in their large numbers from neighbouring Nsukka Communities lamented that the current VC Prof. Bartho Okolo, has since the beginning of his administration initiated draculian measures that ensures they live in untold hardships. Another source, known as rymzo put it this way: Chief judge Akpan, see for urself. Dont ignorantly talk what u dnt knw. THE PROTEST INSIDE UNN BY OWERRE-EZE ORBA YOUTHS: Owerre Eze-orba is a neighbouring village, very close to UNN which has a boundary with UNN. The place is popularly called "Greenhouse" because of the agric greenhouse there. UNN collected lands from Nru, Owerre-Eze orba, Obukpa, Odenigwe and Onuiyi to form UNN and none of these communities are given anything like light, good road, water, job opportunities and so on as their rights or in appreciation. I dont think its fair. Some parts of Owerre-eze orba (Green house) used to get their electricity from campus but on february 19th, 2011, UNN cut off their light bacause according to UNN, the load was too much and it was affecting the campus transformer that supplies light to the agric and veterinary farm. The community was asked to buy transformers which they have done and installed but UNN has refused to connect the light back and this community has been in darkness for nearly 2 years now. Today's protest will be the 3rd protest they have embarked on since last month and school keeps giving them empty promises. They have the transformers installed, what does it take UNN to give this poor community just electricity only, people that gave you their land? Am not physically part of the demonstration and protest but am in support of it. Give them light! The best advice i will give you is: 1. Building of hostels especially near these new federal universities. I know someone that earns 4.2 million annually from this 2. Buy lands and resell, the price of land @ 6 am and 6 pm can never be the same 3. Transportation business especially where it is needed, your new buses can make yours unique, peace mass transit used it to dominate transport in Nsukka 4. Plantation business, like cashew, water melon, potatoe, cassava( which is exported now) I gave you these advice based on my personal study, Good luck +CHIMEX+ |

Not to make mouth, but UNN is actually a jungle, From the story of Dennis. Everyone has both the good side and the bad side, No one is hundred percent perfect. The positive side of him in the jungle is Tenacity, Perseverance , Determination, patience. He dug for 3 good hours, he proved that nothing is easy to get in life. He had the zeal, the urge, the anticipation of having it,He had a resilience Spirit! He didn't give up even when the search got frustrating.. He was Persistent and determined. Its not about watching these shows, but the moral lesson learnt from it. The negative side of Dennis is his attitude, My prayer for Dennis is to spend that money wisely because even N100 million without financial management will not bring any result, I pray for God to promote him the more. #God Bless Dennis. God Bless UNN Even though what i learnt from UNN is beyond the certificate aspect of it, am proud to be a graduate of UNN Team NEVER GIVE UP |

I REP MBANEFO, OF THE GREATEST LIONS AND LIONESS, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO UNN AS IT CLOCKS 53 YEARS |
Remarks by His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR On the Occasion of the Inauguration of the National Advisory Committee On our Country’s Conversation towards a Greater Nigeria. State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja Monday October 7th 2013 PROTOCOLS 1. Today, we are taking historic and concrete steps that will further strengthen our understanding, expand the frontiers of our inclusiveness and deepen our bond as one people under God. 2. In my address to the Nation on the occasion of our 53rd Independence and Golden Anniversary as a Republic, I announced that in response to the yearnings of our people, we had decided to take on the responsibility of decisively and genuinely exploring the option of a National Conversation. 3. In furtherance of this objective, Government announced the names of some Nigerians, with wide experience from various disciplines, to form membership of an Advisory Committee to facilitate a most acceptable process that will bring our aspirations to fruition. Our gathering here today is to formally inaugurate this child of necessity, the Advisory Committee to midwife this Conversation. 4. Permit me to very quickly review the foundational principles that drive our action, and also address a few matters arising. Firstly, let me emphasize that this is a National Project, a sincere and fundamental undertaking, aimed at realistically examining and genuinely resolving, longstanding impediments to our cohesion and harmonious development as a truly united Nation. 5. There is a view by some of our people that we do not need to sit together to dialogue over the socio-political challenges facing our country. Some believe that because we have held several Conferences in the past, we do not need to hold another one. I was one of those who exhibited scepticism on the need for another Conference or Dialogue. My scepticism was borne out of the nomenclature of such a Conference, taking into cognizance existing democratic structures that were products of the will of the people. 6. However, we are in a democracy, and in a democracy; elected leaders govern at the behest of the citizenry. As challenges emerge, season after season, leaders must respond with best available strategies to ensure that the ship of state remains undeterred in its voyage. 7. Nations rise to the challenges that each epoch presents. It is imperative therefore, that in our march to nationhood, we have to be dynamic in our approach and response to the problems, even as we seek solutions to them. We cannot proffer yesterday's solutions to today's problems. 8. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, let us remind ourselves of the gains from previous Conferences and Dialogues. The Conferences that were held before 1960 were designed to produce a political system and a roadmap to Nigeria's independence. 9. The Constitutional Conference of 1957 in London, for example, effectively prepared Nigeria for Independence. The Eastern and Western regions were granted self-government in 1957, while the Northern region got its own in 1959. The Office of the Prime Minister was created and it was also decided that the Federal Legislature would be Bi-cameral. 10. Furthermore, the Constituent Assembly of 1978 gave us the 1979 Constitution and also created the current Presidential System with its attendant checks and balances and Fundamental Human Rights provisions. The 1999 Constitution we operate today, is a successor to the 1979 Constitution and records show that the 1999 Constitution also benefited from reports and recommendations arising from the 1994/1995 Constitutional Conference. 11. Although not enshrined in the 1999 Constitution, the idea of the current Six Geo-Political Zones that have become one of the avenues for equitable distribution of projects and public offices in Nigeria was also a product of Dialogue that emerged from the 1994/1995 Constitutional Conference. 12. The 2005 National Political Reform Conference produced a number of key recommendations that were sent to the 5th Assembly, which were however not perfected. In 2010, I reasoned that the outstanding recommendations from the 2005 Conference be revisited. 13. It was my view that Government is a continuum and that we must find ways to strengthen the foundation of our Union. I proceeded to set up the Justice Alpha Belgore Committee with a mandate to review the report for possible implementation, especially the areas were there was a common agreement. The committee worked hard and came out with its report that included a number of Bills, which were forwarded to the National Assembly. 14. We believe that these Bills will form key components of the on-going Constitutional Review by the National Assembly. 15. Clearly, every dialogue adds something valuable to our evolving Nation. The urgency of a National Conversation in the present therefore, need not be over emphasized. 16. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, as we continue to strive to build a strong and virile Nation, especially in the midst of agitations and tensions, we cannot deny the fact that sitting down to talk is one right step in calming down tensions and channelling our grievances, misgivings and suggestions into more positive use for the good of our Country. 17. Let me use this opportunity to thank the Senate President, and the leadership and members of the National Assembly for the support they have given to this important National Project. 18. The concept of participatory democracy is such that even after the people have given their representatives the mandate to make laws and act on their behalf, there is also a space for the governed to make further input into the political processes, without undermining the authority of the statutory bodies. Sovereignty continues to be with the people even as the people evolve strategies and tactics to strengthen its foundation for the benefit of successor generations. 19. It is this sort of collaboration between the people and established institutions of government, that will allow for a robust outcome that leads to greater understanding and a more cohesive and inclusive Union. For me, there is no alternative to inclusivity, equity and justice in a modern democratic state. 20. I will therefore like to allay the fears of those who think the Conference will call the integrity of Nigeria into question. This National Discourse will strengthen our union and address issues that are often on the front burner, and are too frequently ignored. 21. Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Committee Members, this is a serious task, and history beckons on you not to disappoint our people. I want to charge you to consult widely before sitting down to develop the framework that will guide and guard the proceedings of the discussions. 22. In the task before you, no voice is too small and no opinion is irrelevant. Thus, the views of the sceptics and those of the enthusiasts must be accommodated as you formulate this all important framework. This Conversation is a People’s Conversation and I urge you to formulate an all-inclusive process that protects the people’s interest. 23. Let me also urge the Advisory Committee not only to be alive to the expectations of our people, but to bear in mind, that what we desire is what can work for the good of our people and country. The goal is to bequeath a better and a greater Nigeria to the present and the generation that is to come. 24. Ladies and Gentlemen, We have wasted too much time and resources, bickering over sectional versions of what define reality. This is an open-ended luxury we can no longer afford. Let us move forward, with honest conviction and patriotic courage, to strengthen this Republic, and get it to work better and brighter, for all of us, to the glory of God. 25. On this note, I hereby inaugurate the National Advisory Committee on this significant National Assignment and give the Committee six weeks to submit its report. I thank you for accepting to serve and I wish you the very best of wisdom in this very important call to duty. 26. Congratulations! I thank you. |

THE NIGERIA OF MY DREAM Nigeria is a country that is filled with milk and honey, Blessed with enough natural resources which are envied by neighbouring countries and other countries in Africa. Nigeria is a country filled with talented patriots in every sector. I dream of a Nigeria where Nigerians love each other, where tribalism and religion will not cause crisis that will limit the movement of our country to its promise land. I dream of a country where young people will have positive belief in their country. I dream of a country where every Nigerian will fight corruption starting from the home since charity begins at home. I believe Nigeria has what it takes to be like world power countries. I dream of a Nigeria where its citizens don’t rush to develop and invest in other countries but believe that something good can come out of Nigeria and believe in developing Nigeria. I dream of a Nigeria where people will follow the footsteps of people like Aliko Dangote and Mike Adenuga who became one of the richest in Africa and in the world by investing in Nigeria. Dangote and Adenuga are clear examples that investing in Nigeria can give Nigeria a scene in the international scene bringing more investors in Nigeria. I dream of a Nigeria where education will be giving a high priority because without education we cannot compete with other developing countries in the world. I dream of a Nigeria where money will be invested in research and development. I dream of a Nigeria where the media will start portraying good image about Nigeria. The media has a lot of roles to play in the awareness of a country. I dream of a country where Nigerian bloggers will not use their blogs to say evil of Nigeria by promoting developments and improvements in the country rather than more of the evils. I dream of a Nigeria where leaders don’t find themselves but put the interest of the people they are serving at hand. I dream of a country where young people will be given opportunities to contribute their ideas and quota in the development of Nigeria. On Entrepreneurship, I dream of a country where entrepreneurship education will start from primary school to give young Nigerians the basic concepts in entrepreneurship to become independent. I dream of a Nigeria where young graduates use the skills they acquired in the University to be independent. I dream of a country where graduates don’t depend on the Federal government for job but create jobs for themselves. I dream of a country where young people who are the future leaders don’t spend most of their time on frivolities but think of possible solutions to the problems of Nigeria. I dream of a Nigeria where we are not just after certificates but knowledge to improve the situation of our country Nigeria. I dream of a Nigeria where people go for political positions not just for money but to change the lives of the people they are serving. I dream of a Nigeria where a good orientation of Nigeria will be given to kids from kindergarten, the orientation given to the future leaders will take Nigeria to the promise land. I dream of a Nigeria where young people will bend down to study their books and say No to examination malpractice. I dream of a Nigeria where parents don’t support their children in examination malpractice but encouraging them to become better citizens of Nigeria. I dream of a Nigeria where parents don’t force their children to study a course different from what they have passion for. Change is the only thing that is constant, I believe Nigeria is still the giant of Africa and i know that my dream for Nigeria will come through if we all start by believing in Nigeria and starting from our individual homes to make impacts in the developing of Nigerian WRITTEN BY CHIME CHINONSO SIMON www.facebook.com/chimexcomm |
