The Student Union Government at the University of Benin, Benin City, has issued a notice calling all students at the university for a peaceful demonstration against the hike in fees and charges by Council.

The demonstration is to set off from June 12 Building on Thursday morning, at 7.00am. The union is asking for a total reversal of increment in fees and charges including those affecting the just-admitted fresh students.

ANSA, Alliance of Nigerian Students Against Neo-Liberal Attacks, has been calling for a protest by students against the hike. Now that the student union has joined the campaign to get Uniben Council to reverse the hike, more are expected to troop out to protest against the hike today.

Their senate has already shutdown the school for further notice.

18-year-old Miss Turkey, Itir Esen was dethroned today, just a day after winning the contest over a social media post that was deemed insulting, to the memory of the 250 people killed while opposing last year’s failed military coup, AP has revealed.

According to the organizers who also stripped Esen of her right to represent Turkey at the Miss World contest in China, her title was revoked because of a tweet in July that they described as “unacceptable.”

An aggrieved man has taken to Twitter to allege that his brother died as he confronted armed soldiers in the struggle for the realisation of the Biafran State.

The man, one Onyema Isaac Ugo with Twitter handle @OnyemaIsaa, claims that his relation was killed by the soldiers in Umuahia last Friday.

In his social media lamentation which friends and other sympathisers reacted to, Mr. Ugo alleged that the late Kelechi was recruited into the Indigenous People of Biafra, but that he was felled by “the bullets of the army.”

Nine-year-old Nurjahan Khatun, a girl was fast asleep beside her 13-year-old cousin at their home in Bangladesh. Suddenly, a man threw acid through the bedroom window.

A Nigerian teenager who definitely had a bright future ahead of him has tragically lost his life after a brief illness.
16-year-old student, Mubarak Razak reportedly lost his life just after passing both the JAMB exams and Post-UTME with flying colours.

Razak applied to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ilorin in the Post-UTME screening before the unfortunate incident.
