SportsBREAKING New:ethiopian Fans Go On The Rampage Attacking Nigerians In Addis Ababa by chiomaeva(op): 10:21am On Oct 14, 2013
ETHIOPIAN football fans have gone on the rampage in Addis Ababa attacking Nigerian businesses and setting cars on fire in response to what they see as the unfair loss of their national team the Walia Antelopes to the Super Eagles.

Earlier today, the Eagles beat the Antelopes by two goals to one in the first leg of a World Cup qualifier, which gives them the advantage in the two-legged tie. However, Ethiopian fans feel robbed by the Cameroonian referee who denied them what looked like a clear goal in the 24 minute.

Halfway through the second half, Saladin Said, Ethiopia's best player, controlled a long diagonal ball well and managed to beat Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama only to see Godfrey Oboabona clear it off the line. Video replays shows that the ball had clearly crossed the line but Cameroonian official Neant Alioum refused to give the goal.

To make matters worse for the home side, Mr Alioum awarded a 90th minute penalty against the Walia Antelopes after Ethiopian defender Hailu Aynalem needlessly dragged Emmanuel Emenike down in the penalty area. Nigeria's leading goalscorer, Emenike then got up and coolly slotted home the decisive winner.

So far, Ethiopia has had a near perfect record in the World cup qualifiers, winning all their home games and thousands of Walia Antelope fans had trooped to Addis Ababa's national stadium expecting another victory. Following the loss to the Eagles, the anger boiled over into the streets of Addis Ababa. - See more at: http://houseretailnews..com/2013/10/breaking-news-ethiopian-fans-go-on.html#sthash.A50nkkzx.dpuf

Five percent of the participants believed rape was caused by illiteracy about women’s rights, ungodliness and bad company.

Nairaland GeneralPhotos: The Wedding Of Nnamdi Azikiwe With Miss Flora Ogoegbunam In 1936 by chiomaeva(op): 4:29pm On Oct 09, 2013
Nnamdi Azikiwe i the first President of Nigeria and remains a legend till tomorrow. Here is a picture of his wedding to his sweetheart and one-time First Lady of Nigeria, then Miss Flora Ogoegbunam in 1936. The wedding was held in James Town, Accra, Ghana. Hear what foremost historian, Max Siollun has to say about the late Zik of Africa: If Zik had killed himself, there would have been no Nigeria today – period. He more than anyone else (with the exception of Gowon) is responsible for the continued unity of Nigeria.

The wife died in 1983 and Zik himself later died in 1996. Actually, there was a time the great Zik wanted to commit suicide. In the words of Bimbola Babarinde, an expert on Nigerian history, Zik’s early years in America were so difficult and at one point he attempted suicide by lying across train tracks and waiting for an oncoming train to crush him. A good Samaritan saved his life by pulling him off the track with the train only a few yards from him. Life in America then for a lonely young African man was terrible, especially with all the discrimination, segregation and economic depression. - See more PICTURES at: http://houseretailnews..com/2013/10/photos-wedding-of-nnamdi-azikiwe-with.html#sthash.cgVpbP2K.dpuf

The CokoBar Music Festival took place last night Sunday 6th October 2013 at London's o2 Indigo and one of the most memorable incident of the night was when a fan (pictured above) was picked from the crowd to come on stage to flex her dancing skills to Flavour's music. The lady got on stage and started out pretty okay, she bounced and shook her bum bum to a delighted crowd...the cheering must have gotten to her because she then went totally crazy, and gave concert goers a peek of her 'selling point' lol. CelebritiesNollywood Stars Who Changed Career From Acting To Pastor-zack Orji And Others by chiomaeva(op): 3:22am On Sep 28, 2013
Although, many have criticised their decisions to embrace Christ, blaming such decisions principally on the turn of events in their lives, it is not out of place today to come across celebrities who have become preachers of the Word.
From Eucheria Anunobi to Zack Orji, Ndidi Obi, Pat Attah, Ernest Azuzu and many others, it has been a steady influx of fire-brand celebrity Pastors into the Vineyard of God. But the question on the lips of everyone is whether these celebrities have found true happiness after all, and if they do, how much has the pulpit paid off, in place of dumping their flourishing careers in acting for the work of God. Like the Biblical saying, “When we come to the Word of God and we pray over His Word, when His Word shines on us, we are exposed and emptied of any other thing.”

From Vanguard
Ex-President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria,AGN, Zack Orji can be described as “a gentleman without blemish.” This, no doubt informed his decision to become a worker in the Vineyard of God. Zack Orji ordained a full-time evangelist by Bishop Emma Isong of Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI).
He is said to have dedicated his time to preaching the gospel of good tidings across the nations of the world. The veteran actor has been spotted in such cities as Abuja, Nasarawa and Makurdi where he is engaged in various evangelical activities. But this, however, has not stopped him from storming the celebrity hangout, in Surulere to fraternize with his friends and colleagues in the movie industry.

Eucharia Anunobi
In fact, Eucheria Anunobi’s conversion was the most talked about conversion to Christ in recent times. The actress who ruled the screen in the early 90s with her role in the film “Glamour Girls” has been trailed with many controversies and scandals, most of which bothered on her relationships and crashed marriage. But after many years of being in the news for the wrong reasons, Eucheria shocked her fans when she announced she had given her life to Christ. Few months after the announcement, UK was ordained at the Fresh Oil Ministry, Egbeda, Lagos, as an evangelist.

Interestingly, with her ordination which was performed by Pastor Psalm Okpe, Eucharia willed the power to preach as a pastor and she’s doing so, without looking back. Those in the know said, she already counsels youths in the church and travels at random to spread the gospel of salvation.
This, however, has not taken away some of the traits that made her fans term her “a bad girl” before her transformation. She is still flashy and daring. Just weeks after the ordination, Eucheria bought a brand new BMW X5. Severally, she has refuted reports that she has abandoned her acting career for the work of God. Instead, she pointed out that she would be choosier in accepting roles in movies.

Pat Attah
Pat Attah? That play boy actor who broke the hearts of many ‘Nollywood babes’ during his time, and left as soon as the ovation was loud. The once-upon-a-dreadlock-turned clean cut actor, is currently based in Hamburg, Germany where he’s winning souls for Christ. Those in the know said, he does not preach in churches, rather he is now very much a born-again.

Many knew him before he left the shores of the country as one who was close to the ladies and in love with the bottle. Today, reading his posts online, one would acknowledge the fact that Pat is a new creature in Christ. He often uses social network sites including Facebook to deliver his sermon and messages to those who care to read them. But what we don’t know is how he has been faring over there.

Liz Benson
Elizabeth Benson, popularly known as Liz Benson used to be the toast of many lovers of Nigerian films and TV series. Her journey into stardom began when she appeared on the set of the popular television soap opera, Fortunes, in 1993. Liz Benson played the part of Mrs. Agnes Johnson in the soap, which ran for about two years on the NTA. After that, she acted in various TV series and many movies.

In 1994, her role in Glamour Girls, a very successful home video that focused on prostitution, literally changed her fortunes. The movie shot her into prominence and soon, she became a subject of many scandals and controversies, forcing her to disappear from teh scene, in order to rebrand herself. But as luck would have it, she got married to her Bishop Great Emeya husband in 2009, at the Rainbow Christian Assembly in Warri, Delta State. She has since been ordained an evangelist in the church. Presently, she runs the church with her husband.
Charles Okafor
Charles Okafor who staged a comeback to Nollywood recently in Uche Jombo’s film, “Misplaced” after disappearing from the radar is also one of the actors that are winning souls for Christ. He used to act alongside Saint Obi, Zack Orji and Richard Mofe Damijo and has made a name for himself before disappearing from the scene.
The UNIPORT trained actor who starred in such films as Forest of Promises, Ocean Deep, Across the River, Between Love, Boiling Point, and Executive Connection, worked briefly with the Security and Exchange Commission, before resigning to go into full time acting. Recently, he was spotted at a filling station around Isolo area of Lagos, and from the way, he looked, the handsome actor has surely given up the things of this world.
Okey Ogunjiofor

Okechukwu Ogunjiofor is known to be the founder of Nollywood. He produced the film, Living in Bondage which gave birth to Nollywood. With the explosion of this movie in 1992, Nollywood prides itself today as second to the largest movie industry in the world after 20 years of its existence. But this man who started this innovation engage himself more in other aspects of movie production. He hardly features in movies but appears on special arrangement. He has since reconciled himself with his maker. Today, he is not only a preacher of teh Word, he is also House of God. He is also a motivational speaker and unknown to many, Paullo as he’s fondly called by his fans is an author of many Christian literature .

Nairaland GeneralPHOTO: Inside The $9 Billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery by chiomaeva(op): 12:03pm On Sep 15, 2013
Aliko Dangote is a business juggernaut whose middle name is entrepreneur. He is never dissuaded from entering new businesses despite the general inclement operating business environment. Given his foray into many different business terrains and the successes he has recorded thereof, it would appear he has the uncanny ability to juggle different balls at the same time and get results.

He has been declared the richest black man on the planet earth, yet his humility will surprise you. He remains unaffected by the lofty heights he has attained in business.
His business acumen is unparalleled. From the humble beginning, Dangote has nurtured a trading company to a pan-African conglomerate and a force to be reckoned with in the global arena using creativity, innovation, style, patience and commitment to his dream.

He made a bold move to acquire the Kaduna refinery in 2007 along with one of his friends in response to the government’s call to help rejuvenate the ailing refinery which, by then, had become a draining pipe to the Federal Government. For one reason or the other, Dangote returned the refining plant to government. Since then, he had been on the drawing board deploying his business dexterity on the best way to enter into the critical oil and gas sector.

The global business community would have been shocked, last week, when it was announced that the business mogul was ready to build, in his home country, the biggest petroleum refinery in Africa. This is a feat thought to be unrealizable given that many who had been licensed to build refinery years ago failed to commence business citing the deregulation policy as a hindrance.

Those in that school of thought would have then swallowed their pride when Dangote gathered a consortium of local and international banks in Abuja to sign a term loan agreement to the tune of $3 billion to execute the refining plant project, a fertilizer plant as well as petrochemical facilities. Other African financial institutions are also expected to bring some facility while the man himself is coming on board with an amount equaling the sum being put together by all the banks. The total investment is $9 billion.

EducationOMG: A Good Number Of Kogi Teachers Speak Bad English, Can’t Write Own Names by chiomaeva(op): 12:11am On Sep 12, 2013
The Kogi Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said on Wednesday that more than 20 per cent of public primary school teachers in the state speak bad English.
Ali made the disclosure while submitting the report of the Committee on biometric data and Certificate verification of the teaching and non-teaching staff to Gov. Idris Wada in Lokoja.
The commissioner, who also heads the committee, said the teachers could not also spell or write their names correctly.
He said the committee had established the actual number of teachers in the state to be 24, 335 and not 27, 639 as claimed by State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

On the teachers’ salaries, the committee chairman said the claim by the SUBEB and local education authorities as at May ending was wrong.
He said that, what government should be paying as the monthly salary of teachers’ should be N1.196 billion, and not N1. 320billion as claimed by SUBEB and LGEAs.
He said that, the committee discovered 3, 303 ghost workers that had been receiving N189 million as salaries every month for years.
“For six weeks that the committee sat, these people could not be found, and there was no excuse permit or medical report, so, we tagged them ghost workers,” Ali said.
He said the committee also discovered that some retired teachers in the state were still collecting salaries from government years after they had retired.
The committee chairman said they had compiled the names of the affected retirees and the amount collected individually, so that, it could be deducted from their gratuities.
He said the committee also observed that there were indiscriminate recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff by both SUBEB and local school authorities.
While calling for the total overhaul of the primary education sub-sector, Ali said the responsibility to recruit, promote and discipline teachers should be taken away from SUBEB and the local education authorities.
Doing this, he said would stem corruption and reduce the problem of ghost workers among other abuses in the system.
The committee suggested the training and re-training of teachers on regular basis to enhance their competence and capacities.
Ali thanked the leadership of the state chapter of the NUT for their understanding and cooperation throughout the sitting.
In his response, Gov. Wada said government would immediately set up a committee to implement the report.
He said that government would not delay the implementation so that schools that had been under lock and keys in the past five months could be re-opened.
He said that government was initially opposed to the implementation of the minimum wage, but the report would enhance the capacity of the government to pay the new wage.
The committee was inaugurated in May at the height of agitation for the payment of minimum wage by teachers in public primary schools. (NAN)

PoliticsMy Attitudinal Predilection Scared My Lecturers – Patrick Obahiagbon by chiomaeva(op): 10:34am On Sep 08, 2013
Patrick Obahiagbon, the Chief of Staff to the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, in this interview with Punch, talks about his controversial way of speaking and why he chooses to speak that way.
What is your educational background
I am by the grace of the celestial choir, a legal practitioner, a public administrator, an international historian and a diplomat. I earned a degree in Law and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria about 25 years ago and I do also have a double-barreled Master’s degree in Public Administration and in International History and Diplomacy.

Why do you always speak ‘big grammar’?
I am not really consensus ad idem with those who opine that my idiolect is advertently obfuscative. No no no, it’s just that I am in my elements when the colloquy has to do with the pax nigeriana of our dreams and one necessarily needs to fulminate against the alcibiadian modus vivendi of our prebendal political class.

How do you talk to your wife, children and even your friends?
I relate with my family and friends very warmly and in an atmosphere of camaraderie, stripped of my confutational habiliment and gladiatorial homilies. I am a very peaceful, calm, level-headed and celestially attuned soul personality.
Is this the way you proposed to your wife, speaking high tech grammar?
Of course, the business of the day when I interfaced with my wife on matters of the heart had to be in plain Caeser’s language and you can decipher why that had to be so. The matter in view did not permit itself of sphinxian conundrum.
It’s a long time ago, so I can’t remember the exact words I used. We had a relationship for ten years before we got married. We’re looking at close to 20 years ago.
How does your family understand your English?
My family and friends understand me perfectly just the same way you understand me now though, I must admit that it depends on the issues on the piazza.
Is this the way you were speaking in your school days?
I’m sure if you confer with my school mates they will tell you that I no longer speak what those who just know me now call “grammar.” I could speak for about twenty minutes when I was in the university and you won’t understand one word of what I said. I must say I have deteriorated in my grammatical construct.
How did you start speaking in this manner?
It all happened when my father brought me a teaser which stated that good orators had ruled the world and you must have to be a feisty orator if you must rule the world. As an impressionable young man, I alacritously threw myself into the whirligig of improving my usage of words by amassing new words on a daily basis.
Did you write exams in school in these big words?
I used such words very-very freely in my exams both at the secondary school and in my university and little wonder I had the misfortune of my English results being seized intermittently in my O’ Levels.
WAEC released my results for the other subjects and withheld my English result. This happened for about three years. Twice, I passed the University Matriculation Examination but I could not proceed to the University because of my English results that were not released. At the end of the day, it was released after the third attempt.

Didn’t you have problems with your teachers?
It no doubt gave me serious issues at the university and that is because some, if not most of my lecturers, ran away with the erroneous impression that my attitudinal predilection had a deprecable tinge of academic braggadocio and intellectual megalomania. But this assumption was both mendacious and a fallacious ad hominem. I could not but take solace in that Latin apothegm which states that O Tempora! O Mores.
Was English your best subject?
My best subject in secondary school was government and religion and am sure that I was drawn to religion because, I now know as a student of Rosicrucian mysticism, that I was a student of divine light in my last incarnation. As for government, I just fell in love with the subject due to my early attraction in life to issues of political-economy.
So what did you score in English language?
English language was of course my hobbyhorse and passion but like I earlier asseverated, my results were constantly guillotined to my utter chagrin that I had to lapse into a jeremiad of lachrymoseim for a period of aeon. I would need to check the result again to be sure of my score.
Do you pray the same way you speak?
God understands all languages, my brother and I pray to God using any word that pops up. May I posit that the key points in prayers are your sincerity, purity of heart, walking within the compass and to what extent are you ready and worthy of receiving the benediction of the cosmic and the cosmic masters because as we say in mysticism- “when the students are ready, the masters would appear.”
Take my words my brother that more than seventy per cent of humanity don’t know how to pray but that is a matter for another day.
By the way, are there other names you call God?
God is variously known as Jehovah, Yaweh, The Great Grand Architect of the Universe, The Cosmic Host and several other names known alone to heirophants but which names are so ineffable for me to mention here.

Do you know that many people don’t take you too seriously when you talk because they think you are not communicating
Why will I be perturbed from ensconcing myself in the palatable arms of Morpheus because people have deprived themselves of the cultivation of the regime of the mental magnitude? I read all the farrago of baloneys and vacuous bunkum from pepper soup objurgators. The spirit of animadversion remains their fundamental human right. It also remains an indubitable fact that I get millions and millions of requests daily from people all over the world requesting for my verbal mentorship which positive cosmopolitan reactions have assisted my equipoise and righteous sense of pachydermatous garb. I cannot put my nose to the grindstone daily and expect to be understood by those luxuriating in a modus vivendi, verging on pepper souping, goat heading, suyaing, big stouting and isiewulising. Has a philosophical wag not once pontificated that things of the spirit are spiritually discerned and that it takes the deep to call the deep?
We will speak more on this matter of critiques and chichi dodo another day.
You were there when a teacher in your state couldn’t pronounce ‘solemnly’, how did you feel?
I was indeed sad that a teacher in Edo State could not pronounce a simple word as ‘solemn’. That was certainly one of my low moments in the service of Edo State but the eulogies must go to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who put in place the infrastructure that made it possible to detect such an egregious ambience and this government would stop at nothing in cleansing the Augean stables.

Have you ever considered organising English classes in Edo State?
I would have loved to organise English classes, my brother, but you will agree with me that I am sufficiently busy just now.
Why do you pull your trousers up beyond the waist?
Hahahaha….That trousers style is called Yohji Yamamoto. It was my own audacious statement to remonstrate against the pervasive tendency of Nigerians especially our youths that took to the practice of putting on trousers exposing their lower anatomical contours and I will do it over and over again.

When you speak to Caucasians of English origin, how do they react to you?
My friends that are whites simply marvel and sometimes get maniacally bewildered when we engage, most times to my consternation.
Do you think that you understand English language better than the owners of the language?
I have never had the ambition to know the English language more than the owners. However, I must mention that they are shocked most times to find out several words from me they never heard of that existed in the dictionary. Yet, those words are supposed to be theirs. Na so we see am.

Have you ever met with the Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka? And what’s your opinion of him?
Professor Wole Soyinka is an international personality. It’s either you have met him personally or by reputation. He is a great man and I enjoy reading him anytime, any day.
Can you ever be caught speaking what many would consider as normal English?
I speak in plain Ceasers language or what you call the normal language and let me tell you that I will hold my own even in pidgin conversation. No just try me at all at all o.
What is your take on the ongoing crisis in the PDP?
The crisis in PDP? All I can say is that I join some people to dey laugh o and he be like say my laugh go tay well well o.
Are you likely to contest for a political office?
I am still in politics, serving the good and amiable people of Edo State. Being the Chief of Staff to the comrade governor is in itself an art of daily political engineering.
Do you look forward to developing your own dictionary?
My own dictionary? I have never really given that a thought, but there is a young man in one of our universities who travelled all the way to meet me in Benin. His doctoral thesis is on “Obahiagbonism as a style of language.”

How many dictionaries do you read a day and how often do you read dictionaries?
I have read and still do read a vaudeville of dictionaries from Websters to Funk and Wagnalls, from Cambridge to Oxford dictionaries, from Black’s Law Dictionary to Encarta and from Encyclopedia Britannica to Foreignisms, etcetera. I developed my corpus of vocabulary by reading omnivorously. I have also spent nothing less than an hour daily on my dictionary for over twenty years. So, whereas the dictionary for most people is a mere occasional reference point, it is for, me a vade-mecum. It may also interest you to know that there is much to learn from our daily newspapers.

You seem to mix English with other languages…
On mixing of languages; that comes with reading omnivorously. You cannot but pick these words here and there if you have an audacious reading culture.

Is any of your children like you?
My children are still growing but I petition the celestial choir and cosmic hosts to give them the gift of kissing the hybla bee.

What is your favourite quote?
One of my favorite quotes is from the sapiential mind of the late Ikene philosopher, Papa Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, when he was quoted as saying that, “the greatest glory is not in never falling but to rise up after a fall.”

Are you planning to contest in 2015?
I always feel flattered and smile with delight when I hear positive commentary on my tenure at the National Assembly and the wish of Nigerians to see me back at the National Assembly. I am humbled but as a student of mysticism, nothing happens in my life by accident. I am a robot in the hands of God and from that point of view therefore, 2015 would take care of itself. All my efforts just now my brother is geared towards complementing the efforts of the comrade governor in the total transmogrification of Edo State which is enough to chew at the moment. Let me however use this opportunity of your question to appreciate my numerous admirers all over the world.

How are you coping with the Governor of Edo State, knowing that the two of you have strong personalities?
When two or more personages are united only by the bonds of rendering service, that in itself becomes an agglutinating fragrance. In any case, I am very clear that Comrade Oshio Baba is the Governor of Edo State and I am his privileged Chief of Staff. So we are working together very harmoniously and in an ambience of conviviality in our unstoppable desire in taking Edo State to the next level - See more at: http://houseretailnews..com/2013/09/my-attitudinal-predilection-scared-my.html#sthash.J4kosISM.dpuf

CrimeCOLD JUSTICE: Cultist Dies After Molesting 5-month-old Pregnant Woman by chiomaeva(op): 9:32pm On Sep 07, 2013
A notorious cult member, identified as Tunde Lawal, was reportedly shot in the chest during a clash with rival groups after he and another cult member identified as Para Alabi had accosted and molested a 5-month pregnant woman.

Lawal, 23 was reported to be a member of the Eiye cult group terrorising the community and reportedly met his death in the evening of Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

The duo reportedly left the woman unconscious at the scene of the rape before finding their way to where Lawal met his death. It was reported that barely an hour after Lawal and his partner-in-crime arrived at a beer pub, about 12 members of a rival cult group arrived in a big bus.

They headed straight for the place where the Eye group was seated. Almost immediately a heated argument ensued among them and members of the two groups reportedly started firing into the air as if to scare the other group and when Lawal wanted to engage the leader of the opposing group in the fight, he was shot twice in his chest.

He immediately slumped and died, lying in the pool of his blood. About six other members of the two groups were severely wounded before others took to their heels.

According to the community leader, “That boy (Lawal) and his gang are thorn in the flesh of everyone of us in this area. The most annoying aspect of it is that we heard that the parents of most of these bad boys live close to us here, but they could not call their sons to order”.

If those that wanted to kill the philanthropic and amiable popular transporter and Chairman of Young Shall Grow Motors, Chief Vincent Obianodo, had succeeded, his last words on earth could have been the wild exclamation which he uttered as soon as the assassins started firing volleys of bullets into his car.

Below is a blow-by-blow account of the attack and how the man was saved:

A police source said the Inspector of Police, who is attached to B Ops, Patrol and Guard at the Lagos State Police command, Ikeja, has been working with Chief Obianodo for two years, as a guard. He described the action of the Inspector as 'the only saving grace', saying as soon as the bandits blocked Chief’s car with theirs, they came out firing towards the two cars in the convoy.

According to him, “That exclamation from the chief moved the police Inspector and he quickly used his body to act as a protective shield against that of Chief Obianodo. Inspector Ogbueshi took that risk because he could not think of allowing the transporter to be killed like a chicken. That was why he covered the chief who had already collapsed on the steering after he was hit by bullets, and subsequently the Inspector engaged the hoodlums in serious exchange of fire. After sometime, he pretended as if he was dead and just laid on top of the chief.

“At that stage, one of the attackers came out from their vehicle and approached that of chief with a view to finishing what they started, not knowing that the Inspector was closing in on him. As soon as he approached their car, the gallant Inspector released several shots into his large frame and he laid dead, clutching his AK 49 fully loaded gun. His gang members however, tried to sustain the firing and at that stage, the Inspector devised a new strategy. He tried to quickly slip out of the car, aim at their driver and demobilize their vehicle. Unfortunately, as he was discreetly stepping out of the car, his legs slipped and he fell into a ditch.

“The ditch is so deep that it swallowed both the Inspector and his gun. While inside the ditch, he was still making frantic efforts to accomplish his mission while the attackers concentrated on firing at both the Chief’s car and his back up pick up security van occupied by two other policemen and Chief’s driver. Unfortunately, they succeeded in killing the police constable in the backup car and the driver. The Inspector managed and raised himself from the ditch and also released another round of bullets into their vehicle thereby shattering the back windscreen.

"That was when the attackers quickly jumped into their car and sped off. It is believed that some of them must have been badly injured after the exchange of fire and could not have gone far if the chief’s security aids had received back up from the police.

“The Police from Festac division only approached the scene of the shooting after they saw the Inspector in uniform coming out from the ditch. They were then showed two of the attackers who were gunned down with their heavily loaded weapons. Six loaded magazines were seen inside the bag of the first dead suspect.

“Interestingly, while policemen were still going through the contents of his bag, his phone started ringing stridently. It was also recovered by the police. The brave Inspector who has served the force in different states of the federation for over 32 years is from Udenu L.G.A in Enugu State and is married with two children. Luckily, he had only a sprain on the leg after the deadly encounter.”

Investigations carried out by Vanguard's Crime Alert revealed that the first attacker that was gunned down is a popular auto dealer at Amuwo odofin area of Lagos State and is reputed to be seen frequently in police circles in the area. A source that refused to be named said also that the motive for trying to assassinate Chief Obianodo may not be far from recent clash between a popular night club owner in the area and the Police in Festac.

The transport magnate was reportedly said to have intervened on behalf of the young Club owner making it impossible for him to be intimidated or run out of his business. This, the source continued, may not have gone well with some people, hence the attempt on his life.

Associates of the wounded Chief told Crime Alert that he was flown out of the country last Monday in an air ambulance to USA. The Chief was reported to have asked his aids after he recovered from the shock in a private hospital in Apapa, “Why did they want to kill a man like me that is feeding not less than 10,000 Nigerians? Would they be able to feed all these people?”

The Young Shall Grow boss' family are however demanding a transfer of the case from FESTAC police station to a neutral police state

Nairaland GeneralPeter Obe Dies At 81 (Iconic Photographer) by chiomaeva(op): 9:32am On Sep 03, 2013
Iconic photographer, Peter Oyeyemi Obe, who brought the swampy gloom of the Nigerian civil war horror to public reality via his troubling and tense images, has passed on. He was 81, born 28 December 1932.

News of Mr. Obe’s passage came mid-day Sunday when his nephew, Taiwo Obe, the renowned editor and promoter of the famous professional social media site on LinkedIn, Everythingjournalism, tweeted, quoting family sources, that the ace cameraman had “died at his residence situated on 31 Alhaji Masha/Moronu Street, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria” adding, “His first son, Femi, made the official announcement.”

The departed Mr. Obe influenced a whole generation of photojournalists on account of his adventurous and daring coverage of the 30-month Nigerian civil war in the seventies. A different genre of much younger professionals, not necessarily practicing in journalism, was also drawn by this iconoclasm, nurtured by a peculiar drive for intimacy with his subjects that were vividly realised through close-up, and wide-angle shots. Although his war photography was his signature call, he nevertheless worked across a varied landscape of photojournalism, from conflict coverage, through politics and civic life, to sports.

Working mostly in an age of black-and white photography, his peculiar drive ultimately defined an oeuvre of daunting, perhaps mysterious, and sometimes provocative image sense. He would barrel the lens menacingly towards his subjects in a probing hunt always seeking the zero-point of the subject where their soul resides. Thus, the striking individuality of his subjects, their restless search for identity and affirmation, put him ahead of peers in the exploration of the modern moments in Nigerian photography.

He was for years Chief photographer of the Daily Times but had a stint of freelance work for the Agence France Presse (AFP). The media and development group, Panos Institute, also kept some of his stocks in its London archives.

His coverage of the Nigerian civil war for the Daily Times resulted in a coffee-table book, “Civil War Pictures From Nigeria: A Decade of Crisis in Pictures.”

Mr. Taiwo Obe recorded early condolence messages of notable greats in the media showering tributes. Mr Lade Bonuola (aka Ladbone), pioneer editor and now executive consultant at The Guardian (Nigeria) wrote: “As chief cameraman of the Daily Times and I as the chief sub-editor, we worked very closely together. He never failed in supplying me terrific action photographs for the front page. Once I shouted ‘Exclusives’, I trusted he was on the way to the newsroom to supply page 1 photograph.”

Former Photo Editor at the defunct NEXT newspaper Mr Gbile Oshadipe, who currently teaches photojournalism at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, said: “We’ve lost a pioneer in photojournalism at a time novices appropriate media space and pretend to be pros.”

Using the platform of Everythingjournalism on Linkedin, other editors have also been speaking on the passage of the Mr. Obe.

Mr. Lanre Idowu, editor at the defunct ThisWeek Magazine and Democrat newspaper, and one of the most attentive historians of contemporary Nigerian media practice, wrote: “A great star has fallen from the photojournalistic firmament. I remember one of his Civil War shots. It was a great shot of a soldier’s boot. Lying by the roadside, it raised questions on the whereabouts of its owner…his fate and how the boot got there.”

One time editor of the Vanguard newspaper, Ikeddy Isiguzo, testified on how Mr. Obe “became such an institution [and] that there was nobody he could not tell he wanted his shot. Indeed it would be considered an honour if he did.”

He recalled, “One of my most vivid memories of his photos is the one of Brigadier Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Christian Chukwu and Sam Ojebode, captains of their teams, together at the centre of the National Stadium.

He got them holding a ball, beaming best smiles, to douse a mounting tension as IICC-Rangers played in the first leg of the final of the 1977 Cup Winners Cup.

Pa Obe still continued his art at a time many of his age had retired. He was truly a legend. I am not sure he even got a national honour.”

Iconoclastic writer, and journalist, Maxim Uzuato wrote: “Peter Obe the Great! They no longer make photo greats of your pedigree! Rest in the Lord, Pa!

Lighting up a sombre atmosphere, expressionist painter, writer, and former art editor at the defunct NEXT, Victor Ehikhamenor, who is himself a photographer, commented tersely but in brightness on his twitter handle @sozaboy that Mr. Obe “had a great eye.”

Mr. Obe’s Collection of photographs taken over the period from Independence in October 1960 through to the 30-month civil war represent some of the most honest if even biting records of Nigeria’s post independence history and narratives.

FamilySHOCKER! 14 Year Old Girl Gives Birth To Triplets-photo by chiomaeva(op): 5:29pm On Sep 02, 2013
A teenager has given birth to triplets in Bungoma County, Daily Nation has reported.
Fourteen-year-old Mwanaharabu Wamukoya of Harambee village in Kakamega County, Kenya was admitted to Bungoma District Hospital on Saturday evening and had a Caesarean Section on Sunday to deliver the three baby boys.
Two of the new-borns weighed 1.5 kilogrammes while the third one weighed 1.3 kilogrammes. Nursing officer-in-charge Mary Marumbu said the babies and their mother were in stable condition and ready to be discharged.
The father of the babies, a 16-year-old boy, is said to have taken off on learning that the girl had given birth to triplets. The teen is also a school dropout and does menial jobs. The arrival of thetriplets is said to have distressed him.
“He has no ability to take care of the babies even if he was here. We are grateful to the government for scrapping off maternity fees because I will be free to go home once discharged. I would have been detained here if I had been asked to pay,” the teenage mother said.
Health practitioners in the country have expressed concern over the increasing rates of teenage pregnancies.

CelebritiesFull Story! I’m Sorry For Embarrassing Nigerians – Beverly by chiomaeva(op): 8:39am On Aug 31, 2013
Nigeria’s representatives in the just concluded Big Brother Africa reality TV show, Beverly Osu and Melvin Oduah were presented to the media at the Protea Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos last Thursday after their triumphant return to the country.

The two ex-housemates recounted their personal experiences in the Big Brother House.

Beverly was the first to put the record straight , as she denied having sex in the House with her South African counterpart, Angelo. She however, confirmed that her relationship with Angelo was real.

In BBA House
The experience was awesome.Though it was challenging, God really saw me through. It is something everybody should look forward to participating in. I don’t believe I was cheated during the grand finale. Housemates from West Africa were not only united but, we dominated the House. Whoever won the show really deserved to win. For me and Melvin, having made it to the finals, we are equally winners in our own rights. At least, we brought something home to show for our efforts.

Having sex with South Africa’s Angelo!

I did not made love in the House. I had a relationship with Angelo Collins but we did not made love. I loved him and I still love him. I am a blunt person and very real. People that knew me before BBA know that I don’t pretend to be who I am. If it happens, you fall in love, you can’t fake it. I did not made love with Angelo. I was under the bathtube, but we never had sex. Maybe, the camera made it look so. Everybody gets unclad to have their bath, so I don’t think it is wrong for me to be unclad when I have my bath too. There was no way. I couldn’t be different because I went for a reality show. So, I should not be judged by what people saw during the show since I didn’t intentionally bring out my video for all to see. .Big brother did that.

Winning strategy

I am a very blunt person. Melvin can testify to this claim because he stayed with me for ninety one days in the House. I was only talking to my fellow Housemates. And I don’t regret anythin I said about myself and my family. This is because if I have to be on this platform, people have to know the real me and what I have been through.

On her plans for the future

I’ll continue with my online reality show “Beverly Says” and I’ll complete my education. I also intend to go into acting.I’m a 200 level student of the National Open University of Nigeria, where I am studying Mass Communication.

My mum’s reaction

My mum has tutored me very well. Even if the whole world rejects me today, my mum can’t reject me. I love my mum so much. I’m her only daughter and the last child in the family. I have always been there for her, just as she has always been there for me. I will not disappoint my mum intentionally by saying she this or she’s that…

Embarrassing Nigerians

I don’t feel happy about it because this is the first time, I represented the country in any continental competition. But the fact remains that if you didn’t go for it, you wouldn’t know how it’s in the House. I wasn’t there with my cell phone to be able to communicate with the outside world. I was just there alone. I’m sorry for embarrassing my country. I didn’t do it intentionally. My participation in the show was not to embarrass my country. I am a proud Nigerian.

On featuring in a bad production by Afrocandy I heard about it. Thanks for the offer but no - See more at: http://houseretailnews..com/2013/08/full-story-im-sorry-for-embarrassing.html#sthash.2gtFxMKi.dpuf

CelebritiesSean Kingston Sued For Alleged Gang Rape by chiomaeva(op): 8:22am On Aug 31, 2013
Sean Kingston and his bodyguard gang raped a drunk teenager in the singer's hotel room back in 2010, according to a new lawsuit -- but Sean says it's B.S. Carissa Capeloto -- now 22 -- claims she was forced to have sex with Sean, his bodyguard and a member of Sean's band at a Seattle hotel in July, 2010, after she had smoked pot and downed 7-10 shots of vodka. Capeloto -- who has sued all 3 men -- alleges she'd been invited to Kingston's hotel room for a meet-and-greet following a Bieber concert -- where Kingston had also performed -- but when she showed up ... Kingston was waiting naked on his bed. Capeloto claims the bodyguard picked her up and placed her on top of Kingston, and all three of the men proceeded to gang rape her while she was "obviously intoxicated, incapable of consent." Capeloto says her friend later entered the room and rescued her. The police were called and Capeloto was taken to the hospital where she says she was treated for physical injuries consistent with rape. She says her life has been ruined ... she can barely sleep, has mood swings and panic attacks. Capeloto wants $5 mil minimum. BTW ... criminal charges against Kingston were dropped in 2010 after cops concluded Capeloto wasn't credible enough for a legit case. Kingston has filed legal docs insisting the sex was 100% consensual. Trial is set for November. - See more at: http://houseretailnews..com/2013/08/sean-kingston-sued-for-alleged-gang-rape.html#sthash.KXfDFn73.dpuf

CrimeBREAKING NEWS! Gunmen Kidnap 5 Dredging Workers In Bayelsa Creek by chiomaeva(op): 7:24am On Aug 27, 2013
Five workers attached to a dredging firm, BEKS KIMSE Nig. Ltd, have been reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen along the creek of Opuama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The kidnappers, it was learnt, are demanding N30 million ransom before their captives would be released. The dredging firm, sources told Vanguard, is handling the shore protection and reclamation work at the riverside Opuama town.

The project, it was learnt, is being sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to save the erosion troubled community. Though information about the alleged kidnap of the workers was sketchy, a community source told Vanguard that they were seized in the early hours of Friday.
It was learnt that the abducted workers identified as Inoku Godwin, Sam Ede, Jackson Ibani, among others, are from Bayelsa and Rivers states.

They (gunmen) were said to have sporadically shot into the air to scare away the natives from coming to the aid of the workers.
An indigene of the area said: “The workers were seized by the gunmen who stormed the dredger in a speedboat and disappeared with their victims whose whereabouts are unknown.”

PoliticsPolitical Saga! Amaechi, Six Other Govs Float New Party by chiomaeva(op): 10:06am On Aug 26, 2013
The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took a turn for the worse, weekend, with the decision of seven of the party’s 23 governors to float a new party, the Voice of the People, VOP.

The application for registration by the new party, it was learnt at the weekend, has been filed with the Independent National Electoral Commission, which is processing it. A source in INEC contacted on the development, yesterday, said he was unable to confirm the veracity or the stage of the application.
The party, it was learnt, is receiving the patronage of several chieftains of the PDP.

The seven governors alleged to be behind the new party include all five Northern governors that have engaged in a series of consultation with eminent statesmen, including former heads of state. The five governors are Murtala Nyako of Adamawa ; Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano; Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto; Sule Lamido of Jigawa and Babangida Aliyu of Niger State. The five governors are being joined in the rebellion against the PDP by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.
Another governor is also sympathetic to the proposed VOP, but his identity could not be confirmed as at weekend. The inclinations of Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal towards the new party have also not been confirmed though it was learnt that he has been approached.

The decision of the governors to move out of the PDP came ahead of the special national convention of the PDP this weekend. Governor Amaechi who has been suspended has not been invited to the convention but the decision of the other six to pull out of the PDP could come as a blow to the PDP given the electoral weight of the states involved.

With Sokoto, Kano and Jigawa states out of control of the PDP and the Southwest totally out of control of the ruling party, the PDP would be reduced to playing second fiddle in the Northwest and Southwest regions whose total voters’ population is more than 40% of the national voting population.

There were indications that last Friday’s private meeting between Governor Kwankwaso and President Goodluck Jonathan was a last minute bid to stop the governor and his colleagues from the rebellion.
Though associates of Speaker Tambuwal in the House of Representatives claimed ignorance of his involvement or knowledge of the new party, there were nevertheless suspicions that the involvement of Governor Wamakko could inevitably lead the speaker into the emerging party.

Speaker Tambuwal has been severally flayed by some PDP associates for his close ties with opposition political parties.
The decision of the governors to float a party instead of teaming up with the All Progressives Congress, APC, it was gathered, flowed from deep suspicions between the governors and some of the promoters of the APC.
One of the governors involved in the new party had told Vanguard that General Muhammadu Buhari and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who are among the champions of the APC were missing when activists fought for democracy during military rule.

CrimeBoko Haram Members Are Eating Themselves In The Forest As They Are Short Of Food by chiomaeva(op): 7:36pm On Aug 25, 2013
I thank God that I escaped because I would have been slaughtered by now to provide meal for my colleagues at the camp,”
** we lost contact with Shekau due to the closure of GSM services by the army.
**3 people died of hunger on Monday, and Abu Omar, directed that a non combatant member be slaughtered to provide meal for the rest.

Dozens of members of the Islamic terror group, Boko Haram in Magumeri forest, Borno, have turned to human eaters after being stranded for days without food or water.
Magumeri forest is about 150 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.
Mallam Momodu Bukar, a suspected militant, told newsmen on Saturday in Maiduguri that he fled the camp at the forest on Thursday when it became obvious that he was going to be eaten.

“I thank God that I escaped because I would have been slaughtered by now to provide meal for my colleagues at the camp,” Bukar said.
The suspected militant was captured by a Youth Vigilante Group, popularly known as the civilian JTF at Baga Road motor park, Maiduguri, on Friday.

He said the militants had been in the forest since May, when they were dislodged from Marte, Marte Local Government Area, by the Joint Task Force (JTF) on Operation Restore Order (ORO) after the declaration of the State of Emergency.
“Our group, consisting of about 300 well armed combatants, headed for Magumeri on the orders of the sect leader, Abubakar Shekau, shortly before the military took over Marte Camp.
“We have been wandering in the forest. We have exhausted our food and water supply, and so, everybody became hungry,” Bukar said.
He also said that they lost contact with Shekau due to the closure of GSM services by the Defence Headquarters.
“It all started last Monday when three of the combatants in camp died of acute hunger, and it became obvious that all of us will die if action was not taken.
“The leader of the group, Abu Omar, directed that a non combatant member be slaughtered to provide meal for the rest.

“The meat provided meal for the combatant for just two days and another person was killed in the same manner on Wednesday.
“So, it became certain that I might be the next person since I am also a non combatant member.”
Bukar said he escaped after volunteering to help search for drinking water for the group in a nearby village.
“I left the camp on Thursday evening after agreeing to fetch water from the village.
“After leaving the camp, I started running until I arrived at Magumeri town, so, I slept in the motor park before boarding a vehicle to Maiduguri with the little money on me.” he said.
Bukar said that he was apprehended immediately he arrived at the motor park in Maiduguri by the youth vigilante group.
Commenting, an official of the vigilante group, Mallam Ajid Asheik, said the suspect would be handed to the Joint Task Force (JTF) on Operation Restore Order (ORO) for investigation. - See more at: http://houseretailnews..com/2013/08/boko-haram-members-are-eating.html#sthash.aK9Lpvp3.dpuf

PoliticsHEADLINE! The Last Days Of Shekau, Boko Haram Leader by chiomaeva(op): 4:47am On Aug 25, 2013
The leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, may have died a traumatic death. That was the picture security forces painted at the weekend. From the vast forests of Sambisa, Borno State, where he was reportedly shot and sustained injuries in June during a raid on his hideout by military forces, he was said to have been taken to Mali for treatment by the Boko Haram top hierarchy.

In Mali, Sunday Vanguard learnt that Shekau’s situation soon grew worse. After consultations, the leadership of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, which in Arabic means, “People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet’s Teachings and Jihad”, decided to move their boss to Cameroun.

“It was in Cameroun that the situation got out of hand“There, all known medical support that could be provided within acceptable underground limits was mustered. But that was where he gave up the ghost”, one of the security sources said.

The source added that a recent video recording allegedly released by the sect showing Shekau calling the bluff of the US, Britain and France and claiming that nobody could stop the group was a smokescreen to paint the picture that he was still alive and in control.

Indeed, the spectre of hopelessness was initially discarded as news which first filtered out of the sect’s camp suggested that Shekau could actually survive. To buttress that air of invincibility, the publicized recording had to be released to members of the public.
Sunday Vanguard was told that “if the sect members had had access to modern medical facilities, Shekau may have survived. But the leadership of Boko Haram was also sure that the military was all out to get Shekau and, therefore, could not risk even a disguised Shekau being taken to an hospital”, a source disclosed.

“In fact as I am talking to you now, we have it on good authority that a close confidant of his (Shekau) who was mandated to follow him and ensure he received proper treatment has been killed by members of the group for allowing the information of his death to get out”, the source said. Aside killing the confidant (aide), Sunday Vanguard was made to understand that there was an intelligence report indicating that his followers hurriedly buried his remains, in an attempt to hide the death and paint a picture of invincibility around him so that they would continue to use it to hoodwink sect members.

Sources said the death of Shekau and the likely response of Boko Haram who may be mobilizing to hit back (revenge) through bombings, kidnapping and killing of innocent citizens played a role in the decision of the Federal Government to approve the establishment of a new army division for the North-East, 7 Division, with headquarters in Maiduguri. Meanwhile, sustained attacks in some parts of the North-East, the latest of which was the massacre of 44 persons in a village in Borno

State, on Friday, believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram, lent credence to the claim that a new leader may be in command of the sect. Shekau’s deputy in the Boko Haram hierachy, Momodu Bama, was reportedly killed by the Joint Task Force, during an encounter with troops around the Bama corridor on August 4.
