Businesstools:I AM AN ADDICT Months ago, a friend asked. "Chisom, how do you do it?" You could imagine how perplexed I felt at that out of the blue question. For one thing, I didn't know, where he was coming from? I gave him a fleeting quizzical look, "What are you talking about?" He replied sulkily, " You always seem so totally in control at all times— Are you human at all?" I couldn't help but grin sheepishly. Hell! It was just too funny, you can't blame me. ************************** As silly as the question is, I get it but what he didn't know is that I can't afford to lose control! Why? Simple, I have always been a deep thinker, ever since I was little. I could remember how at times I would just sit in a dark, secluded place and just think about, my life in general and its implication, and a whole lot of random thoughts. Later on, as I passed through a certain stage in life, I found out I have got an 'Addictive trait. What does it mean? Having an addictive trait, I tend to get addicted to something which has a great negative impact on my growth and development. So what do I do? I learned to always be in self-control, at all times, I just can't afford to let go of my iron-steel clench of self-will. I learned to know my limits, indulgence, my weakness, and strengths. You see why I found the question amusing. I just can't succumb to my addictive nature. We are humans, social beings, and whatnot. But that doesn't mean we have to succumb to our more nasty impulses and urges. Just don't call the cops on me when I decided not to join you in what you doing or where you want to go. I have got my reasons..... Enough about me! What about you? Are you addicted to something? It could be porn, drugs, alcohol, gambling, the internet, food, shopping. hell! It could be sex! E shock you! (Are you surprised?) You heard me right! ONE could be addicted to sex, a sex addict. Does your addiction affect you negatively? But we do know the adage 'Too much of something is not necessarily a good thing'. In more cases than none, your addiction is always not in your favor. How do you overcome your addiction? Or are you still trying to overcome the addiction? I did mine by always being in self-control and committing to the decision. Or By self-realization: simple I take what I am addicted to at that precise time and I analyzed it critically by finding the positive and negative sides of the addiction. For example, if I was addicted to playing video games. If the negatives out-weighed the positive I stop the addiction by daily committing not to play the videogames. It has to do with the effort you put in. The important thing is to decide within you, both subconsciously and consciously not to partake anymore in that addiction... Hell! It wouldn't be easy but daily committing to that decision, goes a long way to overcome that addiction..... Or could see a professional—like a psychologist, therapist, counselor..... So...... What are you addicted to? How do you plan on stopping your addiction? @Chisom odega. Writer.... 07013670809 (whatsapp) |
