Very brilliant.

The local govt has been made as an avenue to get rich quick when you are ready to lick the feet of the governor. No project to show nothing at all.

AreaFada2:

Sadly it will not change anything any more.

LG Chairmen will just become mini-governors looting just same way. We need a root and branch reform from FG to Local councils.

With a strong anti-corruption net: where every contract awarded over 10k dollars must go through an independent audit body led by commonwealth experts like Canadians and Australians for the next 25 years.

Exactly it has been relegated to the background.
They only bark to find factor with the state government

kittykollinxx:
I doubt if they could even bark. Its shameful that the decentralization enjoyed by the state government from the federal government is not been enjoyed by the LG from the SG.
I can tell you for free that development would actually be difficult if LGs are not decentralized from the SG

I am surprised at this very post. Are you trying to make us understand that the autonomy of the Local govts that has been long publicised is still in the audio? Then how come my local govt Chairman has been able to do some better projects recently? Anyway I will verify.

Very true. The local government was up and running and discharging their duties effectively without much interferance but now it's an avenue to accumulate wealth without doing much.

Local govt chairmen and councillors positions are given to party loyalists in Lagos by the power that be. Your guess is as good as mine what that power is.

The other day, wike fired some local government chairmen as if he was the MD of a company or something. People that were elected constitutionally.

Impact of government will be felt Until we understand that national development start from grass root development.

Local Government Administration in Nigeria, A Toothless Bull Dog that can Bark but can not Bite

- By Musa Omachoko Matthew

Over the years while we were younger, the Local Government as the last line of the Institution of Governance closer to the people was highly up and running and effectively up to the very task and responsibilities that is due and accorded of a Local Government relieving The state Government of functions which do not fall into their jurisdictions.

The functions of Local Governments are detailed in the Nigerian Constitution and include:

Briefly:

Collection of taxes and fees, Establishment, maintenance and regulation of markets, motor parks and public conveniences; Construction and maintenance of roads, streets, drains and other public highways, parks, and open spaces; Provision and maintenance of public transportation and refuse disposal among others.

This above functions were Judiciously and Tenaciously carried out by the Local Government and was able to maintain the local government from The Revenue accrued from its Activities.

Then Local government chairman were elected after various campaigns and presentations of manifestos from across all party line. They were Never selected.

Also Then, the Governor could be from a different party while the local government Chairmen of some of the the local government Were in The opposition party.

Then the Local Government receives their allocation directly from the Federal Government without the interference of the State Government.

But now it has all changed. The institution of the Local Government is more or less a charade as they are now toothless bull dog that can bark but cannot bite..

First, the State joint Single account where by the Federal Government pays the Local Government allocation into the joint account handled by the State Government has been part of the issues Cos the State Government most time do not release this allocations to Local Government Chairmen if They do not share the same ideology with the Governor or The party at the state or a perceived Lack of loyalty To the state State Government.

The recent practice of Appointing Local Government Chairmen or Administrator by the State Government without Election has also further made the last tiers of Government powerless. This also contributed to the fact that these appointed Local Government Administrator have become mere puppet Subdued under the wings and caprices Of the State Government as they are willing to do anything to retain their seats at any Cost.

How bout the Direct Allocation promised by the Buhari Next Level Administration!, till today it has yet to take proper effect where by the local Government can enjoy full financial Autonomy.

It is until this above issues ranging from appointment of Local Government Administrator instead of conducting elections for every body Across all party lines to test their acceptability by the Local community People, Disengaging the local government from the state joint account And allowing the local government to enjoy its full financial autonomy and other salient issues, until then, local government in Nigeria will remain to be a toothless bull dog that can bark but cannot bite.

Nor because I am old he is old(what good has the 75 yr old president done?). I won't support anyone because he is a Christian, Muslim, Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba, not because he is from kogi or kwara. I will support competency, potential, integrity, wisdom, vision and etc in whoever I support. I won't go out to vote because I want a youth as a governor, I will go out to cast my vote because I want a good governance.

The just Concluded Kogi State Elections, Implications and the way Forward - Musa Omachoko Mathew

The Kogi State Nov. 16th Election has come and gone but it's effects and damages would not be easily forgotten as it was not free and fair even though the Governor Elect tagged the violence “A Pockets of Violence" which led to 9 people loosing their lives.

First I must say some of us got our predictions wrong using the indices of majority and the general will of the people in predicting the outcome of the just concluded elections.

Now, one of the reasons why The northern part of Nigeria has been the major decider of who rules Nigeria is because of their populations and Participation in politics and Election.

Kogi east Over the years has been the major decider of who rules Kogi state because they have larger population and fortunate to also have some of the local government that produces large numbers of votes but this narrative became the opposite in the just concluded Election as it was the Central who became the major decider with the Larger numbers of votes and while some sect allege that it was a hand Written number of Votes, others believes it was the unity of Kogi Central to Chanel all their votes to their son in a free and fair Environment devoid of violence unlike Kogi East and Kogi West.

One of the Implications of this turn around of event and natural forces of majority that was before is that; Kogi Central has now become the major decider of who rules the states with the kind of votes they produced that's if truly it was A vote by the people or a vote by INEC.

The Kogi Elections has further showed that the Nigerian State instead of improving in its conduct of a Peaceful, Free and Fair Elections has further degenerated to the ‘State of Nature' where life is Short, Brutish and nasty.

The way forward first, is to Embrace peace for without peace we cannot think right.

For a peaceful and fair election devoid of violence in Nigeria, the Federal government need not to compromise nor align with any candidates be it on the ground party, loyalty or interest But rather provide a leveled playing field for all contestants and the security operatives too need to be very professional in Their job But this can only work when the federal government provides a leveled playing field.

Let's be united as one for Kogi state belongs to all of us cos nobody is more ‘Kogi’ than the other Either you are a perceived Majority or Minority. What matters most is Kogi First and as such we must see our selves as Kogites first before becoming an Igala, Okun or An Egbira Man.

Let's us try to shun away from prophesying doom for our state but rather let's hope things get better in the next coming years.

One day Nigeria as a nation state would get it right For we would not get tired of demanding for Good Governance.

Kogi youth And Kogi political elites/elders

A story by Musa Omachoko Matthew

Isn't it disheartening and discouraging to see that Kogi youths do not supports One another? While the not too young to run campaign is on massively on every platform it can strive and penetrate so as to get the attention of Nigerian youths to see the need that we are no longer the leaders of tomorrow but today's leader, it appears so convincing that Kogi youths are not willing to Embrace this idea with an open arm due to the many political saga and continues Misunderstanding that emanates from this Confluence state.

In an attempt to keep political relevance, Kogi political elites/elders are busy canvassing for them self and doing everything politically possible to help themselves maintain status quo as far as Kogi politics is concerned but reverse is the case among Kogi youth of today who are bent on frustrating many efforts of the young emerging Kogi youths who are gradually gaining political relevance.

What will be wrong if we can elect young and energizing Kogite in the various levels of our government comes 2019, be it the federal house of representatives, The Senate, just to mention a few? It will show that truly, the not too young to run campaign is not just been echoed on a sycophantic and hypocritical lips but a revolutionary One ready to grab our future which is being used to play politics by this cabals.

But then again, how can Kogi youths supports One another when some have have decided to remain mere political spectators. They have decided not to be politically participatory and allowing the kogi Elders to remain political gladiators who will dictate who should lead and who should not.

Some Kogi youths of today have allowed themselves to be used as political hallelujah boys and praise singers of some set of elders who will use them to gain their selfish political interest and dumping them there after. What will it cost you o yea Kogi youths to support your fellow youths instead of dragging them down?

If you look at it from this angle again, most Kogi youths, are politically apathetic and docile because of their lack of participation in politics. A large percentage of Kogi youths do not own a PVC which is the only mean by which a person can make his voice heard. But how can that be possible when we are not willing to do the needful? By this The youth cannot gain political relevance in Kogi state and Nigeria if the youth that are supposed to push One another up the political ladder are not putting their house in order?

It must be noted also that some of the kogi youths who have represented us and still representing us might have in one way or the other, performed below expectations and this has made people to become cautious as it regards the youths. But I tell us this; 1 to 5 numbers of youths who did not fit in properly in the political spectrum shouldn't be a fulcrum up on which will lead to the hasty generalization that, Kogi youths have nothing to offer.

Partisan politics is another stumbling block in Kogi state as some kogi youths are not willingly to supports One another as far as an emerging young and vibrant candidate is not flying the banner of their own political party. But I tell Us this, a time has come when the faith of those to lead us will not be dependant on the political party they are emerging from, but their credibility, capabilities and competence for if we play by this, then Kogi youth will not be discouraged to come out and show that they are capable to lead and contest elections.

Finally, The pictorial image below clearly depicts how bad the case is, in Kogi state. While the political elders /elites are solely supporting one another to scale through and climb up the political ladder, The youth are dragging them selves down this ladder due to the aforementioned factors.

Let us come together and unite and make our voice heard for we are the leaders of today. This can only be possible if we stop witch-hunting ourselves and come to the realization that if we don't start now when? If not here where? And if not you who?

With a loud cheers, The mammoth crowd gathered in the center of the market square of odokekere village applauded Prince Oguche who saw the problem with their state as it relates to the youth and decided to address it. encomiums and eulogies were rained on him by both the old and young and His father King Otakwobida who embraced him warmly with a proud face as he whispers to his ears, “truly you are the son of your father” And From that day onward, the youth were encouraged to stand up and act right.

Thanks.

Ebele the son of Luck Jonathan was always a beneficial of " my boss fall into gbege, I take over as a sharp ijaw man". No plan No agenda, OBJ still carry d fisherman kom & made him chiefoo of Naija.
The only man that has always planned to be president with sincerity of purpose, Clear direction of what he wants, focused & never derailed or compromised is GEN. Muhammed Buhari.
You see! Those that worked against him in previous elections, worked for him when the time came.
So don't get it twisted, it was a 16year of NO PLAN, NO DIRECTION, NO INTENSION. The reality on ground will tell you that.
Two years of solid foundation for this rebuilding process is not too much a sacrifice. Unless the foundation of a structure is solid, the building won't stand. Baba Kontinew with the solid foundation you're laying, Nigerians will thank you later.
