Crime / $11m Alleged Fraud: Obinwanne Okeke Pleads Not Guilty, Remanded In Prison by chrisbassey: 11:31am On Sep 17, 2019
undecidedObinwanne Okeke, the 31-year-old Nigerian held by American authorities for alleged fraud, entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of wire and computer fraud at his first hearing on Monday.

The presiding judge at the Newport News, Virginia, federal courthouse, declared the case as “complex,” but said Mr Okeke should be remanded in prison until February 18, 2020 when the trial would continue. He appeared in court at about 2 p.m. and waived his right to a speedy trial.

The appearance came a week after a federal grand jury examined the evidence gathered by the F.B.I. and presented by the United States Department of Justice and found Mr Okeke guilty as charged and recommended him for trial.

Upon conviction, the jury also said Mr Okeke should be made to forfeit at least $11 million in asset and an emerald shaped diamond engagement ring found on him when he was first arrested by federal agents as he was about leaving the U.S. on August 6.

The Monday’s appearance marked the commencement of Mr Okeke’s criminal trial since he was arrested and remanded in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service more than a month ago.
He had made previous appearances before separate judges for preliminary hearings in his bail applications — all of which were declined.

Mr Okeke, known in Nigeria as ‘millionaire entrepreneur’ Invictus Obi, was accused by the F.B.I. of orchestrating the theft of $11 million from a foreign subsidiary of American heavy equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar.

Using the infamous business email compromise scheme, Mr Okeke and his alleged accomplices spoofed Unatrac officials into making illicit transfers of about $11 million over several weeks in the first half of 2018.

Investigators said those who worked with Mr Okeke remained at large, and continued to seal crucial references to them in the case.

Dozens of other Nigerians have been arrested in largely unconnected fraud busts by American authorities since Mr Okeke was taken into custody.

Many of those cases were also traced to business email compromise, a process of targeting unwary business executives now commonly deployed across intricate networks of cybercriminals.

He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted, as well as the possibility of forfeiting any ill-gotten acquisitions traced to him. Officials familiar with the trial told PREMIUM TIMES the evidence against Mr Okeke was compelling enough to elicit a guilty plea from him.
But since he had decided to go through the lengthy trial road, he could face maximum sentences with additional punitive liabilities if ultimately found guilty.

There has been a lot of speculation has to why WWE decided to remove Kurt Angle from television as Raw General Manager for the time being and have Baron Corbin take over that role. Pwinsider.com reports that there is no heat on Angle and he’s not being written out for any reason beyond the storyline itself.

It should be noted that he was backstage at Raw in Toronto this past Monday. Angle has been training very hard a return to in-ring action that is being planned.

Celebrities / Seven Nollywood Undercelebrated Film Directors At Asaba by chrisbassey: 6:29pm On Jan 11, 2018
The film industry’s razzmatazz is structured same everywhere in the world. Although the level of “madness” from country to country might differ.
The conclusion of the whole matter is that every participant in the Entertainment Industry needs to be on the red carpet, every key player look forward to the awards, not because it validates ones arts but because it gives encouragement to the hearts that create. It is a way of giving one pat on the back and the accompanying sound that goes “Weldone”.

Today we will be looking at Seven undersung heroes of Filmmaking in South Eastern part of Nigeria, traversing from Enugu, Awka and the den of gorilla Filmmaking – Asaba, located in South South Region of Nigeria. These Seven selected Filmmakers have been doing great in satisfying their audiences, but most often than not their hard work and tenacity aren’t celebrated enough. Don’t forget that NOLLYWOOD has variates of audiences even spreading beyond the shores of this country. The VCD/DVD markets satisfy many audiences in Nigeria and even in the English Speaking part of Cameroun who cross the border often to buy these films in bulk. These set of NOLLYWOOD audiences are often not reached by the films that target urban audiences, primarily screened in theatres. I present to you these seven undersung heroes and bid you to help me celebrate them. They were selected purely on merit and outstanding achievements

7 Vincent Nwachukwu

Vincent Nwachukwu popularly known as Vincent D Anointed is one director at Asaba worthy of mention here. Vincent has grown from just a regular director to one who pays close attention to details.
He has directed a very good number of films that have shown in Cable Tvs, Online Television and made it to the “top chart” in the popular VCD/DVD market. He is also a writer and has also added Cinematography to his skills. He is one complete package that every Nollywood film enthusiastic should watch out for and celebrate. He has not just proven to do much with so little resources, but has also gone ahead to set standard for his contemporary. Vincent will rightly compete at any level if given same resources at the disposal of many other much celebrated names in NOLLYWOOD. He is young, energetic and daring. One could easily pass him by without knowing who he is because of his stature but definitely that has not inhibited him as he has worked with many top actors who have nothing but respect for the in depth knowledge he has about Filmmaking. Vincent is certainly a director to look out for.

#6 Emeka Amakeze
Emeka Amakeze is one you could call a non-compartmentalized Artiste. You will find out why in a bit.
He is an intelligent writer with a degree in linguistics. A former Student Union Leader, one will think that he should have gone into full time politics, and he would have done well there too with his tenacity and doggedness. But he chose Filmmaking. He is a method actor with proven track records. He is also an astute and meticulous director with an eye for perfection. Emeka has written and directed many blockbusters in what could be termed popular VCD/DVD markets of Alaba, Onitsha Electromats and Aba. He has since managed to create a rising profile for himself, making films for both the much patronising cyber audiences for online Television and Cable TV. Although none of his films has been screened or distributed for the big screen audience savour, he is certainly a guy to watch out for. He is ever young and talented. But never celebrated. We understand that he has many films that will be hitting the screen this year and obviously he may just get a deal that will land one in cinema. He is certainly an undersung Filmmaker, whom seldom grease the red carpet. He was one of those that gave awards to the winners in the last AMAA awards but wasn’t awarded himself. However, we believe that it is only a matter of time, he will be properly celebrated.

#5 Ken Steve Anuka

Ken Steve Anuka is Enugu State born Filmmaker who has virtually worked with all the big names in NOLLYWOOD. Ken is one man that has also stayed in the industry for quite along time. He has churned out films year after year. His films are both socially relevant and instructive. Ken, isn’t just a director but also a produce. Just like his contemporary, has done so well, yet very little has been heard of him in the hall of fame.
He is one of such directors that most “star actors” in Nollywood will tell you they have worked with. Some of them even became “stars” through his films. He has constantly supplied African Magic with great entertainment and his name is always on the Television screen as a director. He has already started a new project this year entitled From Trash To The Throne featuring Mercy Johnson, and other great talents. He is certainly a man to look out for from Asaba.

#4 Ugezu Jideofor Ugezu

Most people know as that man that wears “Igbo cap”, others know him to be a regular face and name in Africa Magic. In fact he has become a brand, a household name and one who can not walk into a crowd unrecognised. Aside his undying love for the promotion and encouragement of using indigenous cultural indicators in Filmmaking, he is also an unapologetic African man and Igbo at that. He is evidently proud to say it, be it and live it.

Ugezu J. Ugezu as he is profoundly referred to is not just a movie director, but also an insightful writer. He was the only person invited from Nigeria, to Warsaw, Poland, in 2014, for the 3rd international screenwriters conference.

He is also a good actor of his right. He has even around for a long while now. One wonders why he is not as celebrated everywhere like his contemporary from other clime in Nigeria. This man has written countless films, produced and directed many others. He is currently the owner of Metaphysical Studio in Asaba from where he dishes all the African cultural spiced films.
Recently he declared his intention to run for the presidency, the highest office in Nigeria and he has already started getting support from both the local and international scenes. I have no doubt that he will give his competitors a run for their money. He is most deserved of this recognition

#3 Mac Collins Chidebe

Mr. China as he popularly known is obviously more known to people with his hit Nkolika Nwa Nsukka done with a meagre budget but resonated with millions of Nigerian audience. The movie has gained him a nickname Nwoke Ọcha. It is difficult for him to move around the crowd in the South East and even many other parts of the country without being pointed to as the Nwoke Ọcha.

Beyond that Mr. China, an Imo State born, Asaba based Filmmaker who is also South Region appointed Vice President of Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN) has grown from grass to grace. He started of as a Production Assistant before he became a Production Manager as we gathered. It took many other years before he became a full blown movie director.

Mr. China is certainly one of the many undersung Movie directors domiciled in Asaba. He deserves more accolades to reflect his hard work and input in the film industry.

#2 Okechukwu Oku
Okey Oku as many will call him is the brain behind Oracle Films and the CEO of Pure Sound and Visual Technology. A filmmaker with impeccable knowledge of the craft. One will rather call him a cinematographer than a film director. But he has gone beyond the two. He is a complete filmmaker that one wonders why he has not been receiving as much accolades as his works show.

He recently completed some commissioned projects for Mnet. He is also on the post of what will be one of the biggest emotional thriller of all time in Nigeria, entitled Levi a film that starred Ramsey Noah and many others. Oke is an Enugu based Filmmaker but traverses across Nigeria serving as Cinematographer on one set, director on another and sometimes both. He is from a family of entertainers, his younger brother is the popular music producer and performer SeleBobo. Okey has also had a fair share in the music industry.

He has directed and shot many music videos. One of the most popular one was Ada Ada by Flavour, which he co-direct Ed with Clarence Peters. Okey Oku is the producer and director of The Boss is Mine that gifted Akwa Ibom born star Ime Bishop Umoh his first major award in Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA).
Okey is a big deal but we are yet to see that reflect in the awards and recognitions

#1 Ernest Obi

This hit maker is known for many things, and rightly so, because of the enormous energy he puts in meticulously putting together pieces of imagination to become real. Ernest Obi is actually one person you can call jack of all trade and master of all.

A graduate of Theatre Arts, who came into the industry as an actor, then a writer, and then a director. His recent venture into what could be termed African horror film genre has distinguished him from the rest. Ernest’s Mindset isn’t as dark as the image he portrays, on the contrary he is a God fearing man with “lots of good hearts to share”.

Ernest came back after being out of the public space for a while with one of the most debatable highest grossing films of all time Idemili, since then, it has been hit after hit.

He is a wordsmith, as the lines in his scripts aren’t just poetic but succinctly intriguing to listen to when actors render them. A beautiful actor, passionate writer and instructive director. If you call him the High Priest you won’t be wrong. He has written his name in the sands of time. Posterity will definitely be kind to him for preserving Africa’s rich cultural heritage via the use of myths and rituals as main meat in his stories.

If you call Ernest Obi the King of the Eastern Movie Directors you won’t also be wrong.
The End.

Celebrities / Queen Of Nollywood Pagent Tells Her Side Of The Story And Demands For An Apology by chrisbassey: 11:56pm On May 30, 2016
MY SIDE OF THE STORY
I called the contact phone number which was on the advert page for the Miss Nollywood 2015 / 2016 after filling the online form and making the bank registration payment. Mr Barakumo Odede who picked the call asked me to order for tickets which I will sell like other contestants which is a criteria to be a potential winner of the pageant. I then sold tickets worth #40,000 which I gave to Mr Barakumo. One night during camping, Mr Barakumo told us all that he will interview us but it will be privately done in his room.

We went in one after the other. I went in when it was my turn and MR Barakumo was behaving very funny that made me very uncomfortable in that room. Amongst other things, he asked me if I had a boyfriend, and I said yes, and he said that Queens don't have boyfriends but rich men pays for it. I left the room angrily and upset, I later found out that he asked other contestants for sex too during the one-on-one interview sessions. On one faithful night again, Mr Bara sent me a text to meet him at the corridor, which I did.
But he was not there, then I called him and he asked me to open the next room’s door, when I did, I saw him sitting on a chair with a worried look, "Boss, are you OK? I asked him and he replied “Yes, but I am tired and I need lovemaking from you". I reminded him of my boyfriend.
This word got him angry and he then told me that other contestants were begging for it while he is giving it to me for free and I'm rejecting his offer. He pulled off his clothes and tried to get me down then I slapped him, struggled to get away from him and ran to my room immediately. He later sent me a text that he was sorry that he don’t know what came over him and pleaded that I shouldn't tell anyone about it.

On the grand finale, 27th December, 2015 after we have been declared winners, we were surprised to learn that crowns were borrowed from Miss Bayelsa pageant to crown us and immediately after our group photographs, the crowns were returned back to the organizers of the Miss Bayelsa pageant whose pageant was being held same day at a different venue. All the regional Queens were not crowned as a result of this. We were given just flowers and sashes.

http://chrisbassey..com.ng/2016/05/grace-okoro-adaeze-tells-her-side-of.html

There was no rules, there was no contract agreement for us to sign, no constitution was read to us, no certificate was given neither did we see the 1million naira star prize for the winners as promised by Bara as he is popularly called. The next day he told us to dress very good and come downstairs to the pool side, when we got there, he introduced us to a man who we later found out was a politician. That was when it dawned on us that Bara is up to something different, we later went back to our rooms talking about what just happened.

The next morning, Mr Bara asked for N5, 000.00, I told him that I don't have any cash on me so he begged and took my ATM card to withdraw the money. I was so shocked to receive an alert Of N45, 000.00 debits out of the N50,000.00 that was in the account. He withdrew all my money, the cash that I saved for my school fees and left just N5, 000.00. When I confronted him, he pleaded that the organization will pay me back the money later and that the hotel management had asked us to leave because he couldn’t pay the complete deposit for our accommodation and that I shouldn't sell the company’s secret out.

I was confused and wandered what a beauty pageant I got myself into where the organizer begs from his contestants for almost everything. The last of it was when he requested for one of my phones that owner of the one he was using just took it and there’s no way he can communicate anymore. I gave Bara my Techno T470 phone before we all left Bayelsa at the end.

After our crowning, Mr Barakumo told me to work very hard that by the first 3 months into our reign, the agency will give me all my benefits. With this, I worked diligently.
I am so proud to say that I did very well with the help of my parents no money was given to me by him. Instead I gave Mr Barakumo N15, 000.00 to design two awards plaques which I'll be presenting to the King of my Community and the leader of our traditional ruling council when I paid them courtesy visit respectively.

I have always carried him along in all I do yet he keeps pestering me for money and recharge cards. I called when I wanted to unveil my pet project(the Hope Support Initiative Foundation) and he said he was very proud and happy for me. He even suggested to do all my designs and printing in Bayelsa State, saying that it is cheaper there. I sent him the money he requested for the printing and also specially invited him to the launching of my foundation, with all his expenses on me.( Transport, accommodation, feeding and miscellaneous).

He pledged to donate N700, 000.00 (it is on the video tape)Bara asked me to date him I refused.
The day I asked him of my certificate as (Miss Nollywood Culture and Tourism) Mr Barakumo got so furious and threatened to dethrone me if I ever ask for the certificate again. That was when I knew he was up to something sinister.

Mr Robynz who was aware of the “Bara Saga” approached Mr. Bara and advised to settle all these issues that is responsible for the biff he is having with his queens, from the certificate to the N1million winning prize, Mr Bara took it as an unfriendly gesture, he called him a betrayal for taking sides with 'his Queens'. Mr Robynz told him that its so sad to see him defraud us. Mr Barakumo told him that it was the duty of our boyfriends or sugar daddies to buy the cars for us then he will claim that he gave us the cars after branding them, saying that this is how it is done. I now understood why he told us in camp never to have boyfriends but rather should date men whom he believes can get us the cars. So, we should go out and sell our bodies for money and that the organization has nothing to give us and that he has given us a platform for us to sell our selves.

The attitude of Mr. Bara trying to frustrate our efforts and all that we have worked for gave Robynz an opportunity to manage my foundation.
The last straw that broke the camel's back was when I was invited for a children's day party by the wife of KOLGA chiarman and I sent Bara a text to inform him because I don't want to have issues with him but he didn't reply. Then surprisingly, on the 25th night he sent me a text message asking me to suspend my trip to Bayelsa and to cancel the children's day celebration appointment, he said that I'm making the money and sharing it with Mr Robynz and that he will make sure he disgrace and dethrone me if I dare him and that I want to do what the immediate past Miss Nollywood Nigeria 2014(Queen Gwen)did and that he won’t let it happen again.

I went to Bayelsa on Thursday 26th May, 2016 with my mum, I went for a courtesy visit to the General Manager of Niger Delta Television. Immediately Mr Barakumo saw the interview on the news he became furious and told me that I want to become popular and famous like the immediate past Miss Nollywood Nigeria and that I am rude consequently, he will dethrone me.

Mr. Bara was more furious after he saw my post on facebook about the success story of the Children’s day celebration at KOLGA, Bayelsa State. That’s how he concluded to fabricate all the lies he published and that he has dethroned me. He immediately sent me all the links and blog addresses that he has published it.

Music/Radio / Shizzi On Alleged Stolen 'Baby Face' Song by chrisbassey: 9:17am On Nov 06, 2013
Top music producer, Sheyi 'Shizzi' Akerele, who happens to be my friend wayback in South africa before he relocated to nigeria with Maye Hunter, who has now relocated to the USA.
he produced Wande Coal's version of the controversial
song 'Baby Face', which Don Jazzy says was stolen from him, has released a statement explaining his involvement in the whole issue. He mentions that he produced Wande's hit song 'Go Low' which he never got credit for. See his statement below...

I have heard and seen some folks rants about me stealing production credit for Wande Coal's new single "Baby Face" and I would like to clarify this issue. I was only doing my job by making the beat for Wande and that's what I did. I don't see any reason why people should jump into quick conclusions without taking their time to really dig into the matter for facts.

Two years back, I remember I created a demo for Wande Coal's "Shawty Go Low" and someone else took the credits. I was in shock because I had plans to finish the song with Wande and was hoping it would be released as a single which I produced. Here is the link to the original version of "Go Low http://cdn03.hulkshare.com/dev3/0/007/859/0007859731.fid/Wande_Coal_-Angel_in_dis_world_freestyle_Prod__by_Shizzi_.mp3?key=ed6a79d51fc5b8535d8cd4a12b1c1dec&dl=1

Wande Coal has quietly left Mavin Records. This evening Don Jazzy called him out on twitter after Wande released his new single Baby Face' which Don Jazzy claims he stole from him. Wande denied stealing the song and even asked Don Jazzy why he had to call him out on twitter when he could easily reach him on phone or through his email. Don Jazzy must be pissed. Wande even admitted he quietly left Mavin like i reported here, lol.
