Crime / Man Beheads Step-mother In Benue For Ritual [graphic Photo] by chrisiyke1(m): 7:34am On Mar 04, 2016
One Echeno Adakole at the weekend, at a settlement in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State beheaded his 50-year-old step-mother, Titi Enokela, allegedly for ritual purposes. It was gathered that the suspected allegedly trailed Enokela to the farm and cut off her head. He thereafter wrapped it with the dead woman’s cloth and put it in a polyethylene bag. A family source revealed that the woman’s children went in search of their mother when it was getting dark only to find her headless body tucked away in a corner of the family farm.

The source added that the children raced back home wailing and crying for help, only to discover the severed head of the woman with her step-son, who was acting strange and making moves to flee from home. Save for the quick intervention of the police, the suspect would have been stoned to death by angry mob. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, who confirmed the ugly incident, said that the suspect was currently in custody of the state CID. see scene picture: http://www.schoolwebng.com/blog/man-beheads-step-mother-benue-ritual-graphic-photo/
Education / Tragedy: Female FUTO Student Detached Nose Of Her Fellow Student. See Pictures by chrisiyke1(m): 12:51pm On Feb 27, 2016
The News that a female FUTO student who have bitten off the nose of her fellow student is not new, this happened on the 24th of Febuary 2016. The information got to us that a girl from FUTO (names withheld for now) had on the afternoon of the 24 of February detached her fellow girl’s nose while fighting.

However, we have taken a step further to bring the faces of those involved in this tragedy through the help of our correspondence.www.schoolwebng.com/schools/universities/tragedy-female-futo-student-detached-nose-fellow-student-see-picture-2/

According to a witness who first shared this news on Facebook, the two girls had a little misunderstanding between themselves which led to a fight. One told the other to fetch some water but she objected and started using vulgar language on her colleague. An eye witness also stated that during the misunderstanding, the affected lady pulled out the hair of the other lady which led to more drama. See Picture:www.schoolwebng.com/schools/universities/tragedy-female-futo-student-detached-nose-fellow-student-see-picture-2/

When the fight started, the affected girl’s nose was bitten off causing the right part to fall off. When other students noticed what had happened, they quickly looked for the fallen part but were unable to find it.
Her cheek was also bitten too.

After the drama, the victim was rushed to the school clinic but unfortunately she was rejected and was referred to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri for proper and effective treatment and surgery.

For bleeding to stop, the medical team at FMC had to cut some flesh from her laps. As at now, the matter is still under investigation to know the real cause of the fight.

Nairaland / General / NSUK ASUU Threatens Strike Action by chrisiyke1(m): 6:38pm On Feb 01, 2016
The Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to go on strike on February 14th, 2016 if their demands are not met.

If this happens, the 1st semester examination for 2015/2016 which is suppose to have commenced by then will be affected.

This was disclosed by the NSUK ASUU Chapter chairman, Dr Theopholius Daniel Lagi.

According to him, non-implementation of promotion, dilapidated state of the university’s Law Faulty, appointment irregularities, lack of discipline, high tax deduction on Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), ambiguity in the university’s guideline, as some of the issues yet to be addressed by the university and the state government.

The chairman stated that although the union will not be happy to embark on the strike as it will disrupt academic activities but they would have no other option if the management remains adamant. Read More: http://www.schoolwebng.com/schools/nsuk-ASUU-threatens-strike-action/
Nairaland / General / JAMB 2016 Registration Closing Date – Extend Again... by chrisiyke1(m): 5:47pm On Feb 01, 2016
The closing date for the registration of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as announced by JAMB, has been extended till 5th February.

We therefore wish to advise all candidates who are yet to purchase their 2016 UTME forms to do so on or before February 5th, 2016.

This also extends to candidates who are still waiting for supplementary or additional list of their choice schools for the 2015/2016 admission year to be released.

It is always a bad idea to have all your eggs in one basket. There is no 100% guarantee that your name will appear on the list even if the school eventually releases it.

To be on a safe side, get the JAMB form before it expires. That way, even if you miss the 2015/2016 admission, you will still stand a chance in the 2016/2017 session.

Also remember the examination is expected to commence February 29th 2016 (all things being equal). You can make the most of the remaining time by visiting our website regularly.

Today, we at SchoolwebNG.com want to share
a brief story
of a man who was born on the 20TH
November, 1957 to the family of a
canoe maker.
Through times and difficulties, he rose
from a humble background to
humble cynics who believed that the
child without shoes can never
materialise into anything worth
celebrating.
From that humble background; He
had his dream. A dream that saw him
in classrooms at The University of Port
Harcourt doing Zoology,
Hydrobiology, Fisheries even as a
student and as a Lecturer.
In 1998, when the door of democracy
was opened to a generation of
Nigerians, He was seen in 1999 taking
the Oath of office of a Deputy
Governor.
In 2005, December 9th to be precise,
just 24 hours before a Sosoliso plane
came down in Port Harcourt, He was
seen taking the Oath of the Governor
of Bayelsa state.
On the 29th May, 2007, he was also
seen taking Oath of the Vice President
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at
Eagle Square Abuja.
A doctrine of necessity by a Senate,
saw him on the 9th of Feb., 2011
taking an Oath as an Acting President.
Right from the inception of
democracy in 1999 to date, He had
been seen seven times at different
occasions where he re-echoed words
of oaths from THE SEVENTH
SCHEDULE of our binding document
(constitution).
He has served us, and we shall
forever remain grateful.
As a Vice President, he was seen at a
mediation table where militancy gave
way for amnesty.
He has contributed his own quota to
Nation building.
His rise from grass to grace has not
come without some short comings.
Nigerians believe he was weak and
not prepared for the job. Yes he may
not have prepared, because he never
struggled for anything… the only
election he struggled to win, he lost.
His voice may have been weak when
terror reigned on our land, corruption
and nepotism strive to offend our
collective sensibilities.
Yes, He may have been weak, but in
the face of numerous shortcomings, I
still see strength in him.
His voice may have been weak at
Nyanya Bridge, but His voice was
strong enough to inspire a national
on one common front to flush ebola
off our shores.
His voice may be weak at Alakyo, but
not that weak when he was seen with
a golden trophy, when he inspired a
Nation that nothing was impossible
after a team triumphed in South
Africa.
His voice may be weak at EFCC, but
not that weak when He stormed a
venue in Lagos where a black box and
fellow Nigerians fell off our sky.
His voice may be weak at Chibok, but
the voices of his households was not
weak when a voice echoed from a
kitchen; ” their is God ooh! their is
God ooh!!.
He showed us he was weak, but
demonstrated strength when he told
us;
” …though I am willing, but not
desperate to lead, my ambition is not
worth the blood of any Nigerian.”
When he said this, we never took him
serious.
He inspired us on a mountain top
when he did the unimaginable
through a phone call.
This phone call of his, saved a Nation
and shamed her adversaries who
were waiting to benefit from our
blood.
He made a phone call to concede
defeat, he showed us the way
forward.
He took us to a shrine, when he
proved to us that truly, personal
interest can be sacrifice at the altar of
National interests.
He showed us the pathway that leads
to the temple where elections can
truly be a free and fair affair and not
“a do or die affair”.
He saw what those men and women
who invest in terrorism on our land
couldn’t see.
His weakness may not have stopped
the fountains of blood on our land,
but his strengths have strengthened
the fountain of peace, faith, hope and
national pride in our hearts.

him goodbye , before He leaves, join

Culture / Exploration Of Africa by chrisiyke1(m): 8:57am On Jan 28, 2015
What makes people investigate distant lands? Is it a search for knowledge, or a love of adventure? Is it ambition, curiosity, enterprise, or just greed? All these reasons have inspired explorers in Africa for almost 4,000 years.
WHY EXPLORE AFRICA?
Africa is very old, very big, and very varied. It has deserts, rain forests, mountains, volcanoes, waterfalls, gold, diamonds, and oil. The Nile, the world’s longest river, runs through Africa.
Africa covers almost 12 million square miles. That’s more than three times the size of the United States. People have lived in Africa longer than anywhere else on Earth, and Africa has been home to many clever, creative civilizations, from ancient Egypt to great Zimbabwe.
EARLY EXPLORERS
The first explorers of Africa were Africans themselves. The ancient Egyptians, including Queen Hatshepsut, sent ships south to the land of Punt, somewhere in eastern Africa. The ships brought back gold, leopard skins, ivory, and black Africans to be slaves.
Around 800 bc, great seafarers known as Phoenicians, from the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, explored the north coast of Africa. The Phoenicians set up a trading city there, called Carthage. They later sailed around Africa. Around 450 bc, ancient Greek writer Herodotus visited Egypt to investigate its fascinating way of life. In ad 66, Roman emperor Nero sent an expedition along the Nile River.
ACROSS THE DESERT
The first camels came to Africa around ad 200 from the Middle East. Camels can survive long journeys without water. They can carry riders and heavy burdens. Camels enabled Africans to cross the Sahara, a huge desert in northern Africa, to trade and explore.
Ibn Battuta, an Arab from Morocco, was one of the greatest explorers of all time. He spent 30 years, from 1325 to 1354, traveling through Africa. Then he described his adventures in a book.
LONG-DISTANCE VOYAGES
Starting around ad 100, sailors from Arabia crossed the Arabian Sea to explore Africa’s east coast. They set up trading bases that became rich cities. These cities included Kilwa, now in Tanzania, and Mogadishu, in Somalia.
Soon after 1400, Chinese explorer Zheng He reached eastern Africa. Zheng He returned to China with information about African life. He also brought back an African giraffe, as a gift for China’s emperor.
GOLD, IVORY, AND SLAVES
In Europe during the 1400s, explorers from Portugal planned record-breaking voyages. They were keenly interested in geography. They also hoped to find a sea-route around Africa to China. Then they could bring back valuable silk and spices to sell in Europe. The explorers also aimed to control West African trade in ivory, gold, and slaves.
By 1474, Portuguese explorers had crossed the equator—the imaginary line that runs around the middle of Earth. In 1488, Bartolomeu Dias rounded the southern tip of Africa. In 1498, Vasco da Gama explored Africa’s east coast. For the next 300 years, slave traders from Portugal and elsewhere in Europe shipped millions of Africans to North America and islands in the Caribbean Sea. The Africans were sold as slaves.
SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION
By around 1700, explorers began to investigate Africa for scientific reasons. In 1768, Scottish explorer James Bruce tried to find the source of the Nile. In 1795, another Scot, Mungo Park, investigated West Africa’s Niger River. Park later drowned after his boat was attacked. British explorer John Speke finally found the Nile’s principal source, Lake Victoria, in 1862.
RELIGION AND GEOGRAPHY
Many Europeans in Africa combined an interest in geography with a desire to bring Christianity to Africa. David Livingstone was a Scottish doctor and Christian missionary who saw parts of Africa no European had seen before, including the stupendous Victoria Falls in south central Africa in 1855. Livingstone also worked to end the African slave trade.
On his last expedition, Livingstone was feared lost. American journalist Henry Morton Stanley led a group to rescue Livingstone. They found him in 1871. Stanley is reported to have said at their meeting, “Dr. Livingstone, I presume.” Stanley later explored Central Africa, traveling 2,000 miles (more than 3,000 kilometers) along the Congo River by 1877. Women missionaries like Mary Kingsley from England combined teaching and nursing with studying African wildlife and traditions. She first visited Africa in 1893.
THE SCRAMBLE FOR AFRICA
Toward the end of the 19th century, rival European nations began a scramble to grab colonies in Africa. They sent soldiers, as well as explorers, to establish settlements on African land and seize African resources.
In South Africa, British diamond prospector Cecil Rhodes gained control of many diamond mines. Rhodes dominated world diamond production. From 1881 on, he seized African territory for Britain. The land he seized later became the countries of Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
France, Germany, and other European countries also claimed territory in Africa. Most Africans resisted being taken over and ruled by foreigners. However by 1912, all of Africa, except Ethiopia and Liberia, was under European rule.
After 1950, most African colonies became independent nations. But their natural treasures still attract explorers. Some scientists hunt for fossil remains of early human beings. Biologists believe that forests in Africa hold many undiscovered kinds of plants and animals.
