United have a good press and do win the ball while pressing. But they haven’t scored one single goal from a successful press.

This game could be decided by United’s finishing early on- should Soton stick to their buildup system and make the same mistakes.

He wants to build from the back but with his fullbacks high and wide. Problem is those teams who build from the back invert their full backs into midfield. Eth wants his to remain high and wide to help outnumber the other teams defence. The problem is that is a terrible idea and for it to work you need the best press resistant ball carrier to pickup the ball from the defence and get it forward to either wide areas or progress it and pass it through the lines. Casemiro is the opposite of such ball carrier. Its the reason he wants Frenkie so much.

in the build-up yes, unfortunately when the ball is lost, even FDJ will, he ain't Kante, if that'd be enough, to snuff out the opposition attack.

He already tried this last season and seen how abysmal it was. We're more compact against City, like what happened

Ugarte is no Carrick or Rodri plus Kante, which is what the tactic probably demands; so I'm not expecting much

you're right. My point is about his tactics, where most of the players go forward includng CM which suits McTom well, instead of transitioning forward as a team. One of the major issues of this is lack of passing options.

It's the reason I don't like Eth tactics. Why is Mainoo's pair, who's supposed to help in transitioning the ball to our forwards, far away from him.
