Science/Technology / Samsung Reveals The Galaxy S21 Launch Date by chrisnnet: 9:48pm On Jan 04, 2021
Samsung has recently confirmed the launch date of the upcoming Galaxy S21, as the company officially announced the first Unpacked event of the year.

Traditionally, Unpacked is the name of the event witnessing the introduction of new Galaxy S models, and this year, the Galaxy S21 is the one expected to go live as soon as this month.

Samsung will be hosting the next Unpacked on January 14 under the “Welcome to Everyday Epic” tagline, and despite the teaser video, which you can watch in full at the end of the article, the company has otherwise remained tight-lipped on everything related to the Galaxy S21.

“Over the past year, mobile technology has taken center stage in everyday life as people are working from and spending time at home. The accelerated transition to a mobile-first world brings with it the need for devices that can transform everyday life into an extraordinary experience,” the company says.

“Learn more about the new experiences that are built to make your everyday life epic at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2021, which will be broadcast on Samsung Newsroom, Samsung.com at 10 a.m. EST on January 14, 2021.”
S Pen support

Samsung Galaxy S21 is projected to bring upgrades to all three models in the lineup, though the Ultra is likely to get the most massive overhaul this year.

This is because this will be the first Galaxy S model to feature support for the S Pen, as it’s believed this is just the first step towards the demise of the Galaxy Note. Samsung wants to bring all features of the Note to the Galaxy S series and then discontinue the phablet in an attempt to streamline its offering.

The Ultra, however, wouldn’t come with a dedicated slot for the S Pen, and the stylus would be sold separately. The last Note is expected to launch in the summer.

Science/Technology / Whatsapp Sees Record Number Of Users On New Year’s Eve by chrisnnet: 9:42pm On Jan 04, 2021
WhatsApp is one of the applications whose adoption increased during 2020 due to social distancing and people needing an efficient way to communicate even from the safety of their own homes, and the Facebook-owned company says a new record was set on New Year’s Eve.

No less than 1.4 billion voice and video calls were made on WhatsApp on New Year’s Eve globally, the company says, and this is an increase of no less than 50 percent versus the same period a year before when everything in the world was still normal.

Furthermore, Facebook says Instagram also recorded a huge spike on the same day. Facebook and Instagram together recorded more than 55 million live broadcasts on New Year’s Eve, according to official numbers.
People celebrating from the safety of their homes

“Before COVID-19, New Year’s Eve generated Facebook’s biggest spikes in messaging, photo uploads and social sharing at midnight across the world,” Caitlin Banford, technical program manager at Facebook, says.

“However, in March 2020, the early days of the pandemic produced traffic spikes that would dwarf New Year’s Eve several times over — and it lasted for months. Behind the scenes, Facebook Engineering came together to drive unprecedented efficiency improvements and make our infrastructure more resilient. This work includes load testing, disaster recovery testing and shuffling capacity. This year, New Year’s Eve looked a lot different, and we had engineering teams across Facebook’s apps, ready to support any issue, so the world could ring in 2021.”

Microsoft is one of the companies which confirmed a massive increase in global adoption, this time for Microsoft Teams, as the number of employees working from home skyrocketed last year due to obvious reasons. Microsoft Teams reached 115 million daily active users, up 50 percent in just six months, according to company data.

Phones / Huawei Will Unveil The Freebuds Pro, Two Smartwatches And Two Laptop On Septembe by chrisnnet: 9:26pm On Sep 04, 2020
Huawei has big plans for September 10 when it will unveil two headphones, two smartwatches and two laptops.

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro are among the big ticket items as they got their own separate teaser. The Pro version promises improved Active Noise Cancellation – in our review of the FreeBuds 3 we found the ANC a bit lacking, so this will be a welcome upgrade.

There’s another Bluetooth headset on the way, this one with a neckband design. It may be the Huawei FreeLace Pro, though that already launched earlier today (it offers “double” active noise cancellation and USB-C fast charging).

Continuing the “pro” theme, the Huawei Watch GT2 Pro may be one of the watches – the bezel does look similar to the one seen in leaked images. The second time piece has more of a smart band design, just like the already official Huawei Watch Fit.

Finally, there are a couple of new MateBook laptops on the way. The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020 has been out for a while now (we even reviewed it), also earlier this year we saw the new MateBook D and MateBook 13, so it's not clear what new laptops will be unveiled.

Webmasters / Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4515384 Causes Audio Issues by chrisnnet: 12:00pm On Sep 15, 2019
Microsoft has confirmed that the company’s latest cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903 causes audio issues in games.

In a support document, Microsoft says that after installing cumulative update KB4515384 on some devices running Windows 10 version 1903, or May 2019 Update, users might experience quieter or what the company calls different audio than expected.

The bug was reported by users shortly after KB4515384 was released to the first devices as part of the September 10 Patch Tuesday cycle.

Microsoft explains that this cumulative update indeed brings changes requested by partners, and these are the culprit of the audio issues hitting Windows 10 version 1903 devices.

“At the request of some of our audio partners, we implemented a compatibility change that enabled certain games to query support and render multi-channel audio. Due to customer feedback, we are reverting this change as some games and some devices are not rendering multi-channel audio as expected. This may result in games sounding different than customers are used to and may have missing channels,” Microsoft explains.
"Fix coming later this month"

The company adds that it has already started the work on a fix, and it should be finalized in late September. Most likely, the bug would be resolved in the next non-security cumulative update rollout due later this month.

Meanwhile, users can turn to a manual workaround that involves disabling multi-channel audio or Virtual Surround Sound on their devices.

“To mitigate the issue, open settings in the impacted game and disable multi-channel audio, if this option is available. You can also search in the Windows Control Panel for 3rd party audio device control panels and disable Multi-channel audio or Virtual Surround Sound, if these options are available,” Microsoft recommends.

Windows 10 version 1903 is the only version affected by this bug.
Webmasters / Microsoft Acknowledges Wi-fi Bug Hitting Windows 10 Version 1903 by chrisnnet: 11:49am On Sep 15, 2019
Microsoft has just acknowledged a new bug hitting Windows 10 version 1903, as some devices equipped with certain Wi-Fi cards might no longer be able to connect to wireless networks after installing this latest release of the operating system.

The software giant says the incompatibility issues hit machines equipped with Intel and Broadcom Wi-Fi adapters, and when the whole thing occurs, users end up seeing a yellow exclamation mark near the network icon in the system tray.
"No ETA on the fix just yet"

For now, Microsoft blocked the impacted devices from upgrading to Windows 10 version 1903, or May 2019 Update, until a fix is released.

“Microsoft and NEC have found incompatibility issues with Intel Centrino 6205/6235 and Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards when running Windows 10, version 1903 on specific models of NEC devices. If these devices are updated to Windows 10, version 1903, they will no longer be able to use any Wi-Fi connections,” Microsoft explains.

“The Wi-Fi driver may have a yellow exclamation point in device manager. The task tray icon for networking may show the icon for no internet and Network & Internet settings may not show any Wi-Fi networks.”

Microsoft says the bug only exists on Windows 10 May 2019 Update, and users whose devices are already hit should try disable and re-enable the Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager. Of course, this isn’t the most convenient workaround, but the company claims this should fix the connectivity issues until you reboot your device (so you’ll have to reapply this fix when you boot back to the desktop).

Meanwhile, there’s no ETA as to when a patch could land, and Microsoft emphasizes that it’s critical for impacted devices not to be upgraded to Windows 10 version 1903 using a different method other than Windows Update because they could all end up losing Wi-Fi connectivity.

Webmasters / NVIDIA Vulkan Geforce 426.06 Beta Driver Is Out by chrisnnet: 12:57pm On Aug 13, 2019
NVIDIA has made available its 426.06 beta Vulkan GeForce graphics driver, which adds support for VK_KHR_pipeline_executable_properties extension and improves the reporting of Xid errors to include the process ID (PID) responsible for the error.

Regarding supported GPUs, this release is valid for TITAN V and Quadro V100 GPUs, certain Turing GPUs, specific models of NVIDIA’s Quadro for desktops and notebooks, as well as for the GeForce 1000, GeForce 900, GeForce 900M, GeForce 800M, GeForce 700, GeForce 700M, GeForce 600, and GeForce 600M lineups.

As for the operating systems, the present update is compatible with the 64-bit variants of Microsoft’s Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 platforms. Moreover, the producer has also provided a 418.52.20 package targeted at Linux OSes that is suitable for the same graphics cards.

When it comes to installation, first ensure this release supports your GPU model (check the description page to make sure of that), save the appropriate package compatible with your computer’s bit architecture, run it, and wait for the wizard to extract all files required for the upgrade.

Afterward, follow all on-screen instructions for a complete and successful installation. Also, it would be a good idea to perform a system reboot to allow all changes to take effect properly.

That said, download NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Vulkan Driver 426.06 Beta, apply it on your computer, and always check our website to be aware when a newer version is available for download.
