Do Not Be Dismayed

TEXT: EZEKIEL 2:1-10

"And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house" (Ezekiel 2:6).

Our text today is full of applications to every believer who wants to fulfil his/her God's given purpose on earth. There is a divine message, defined purpose, definite recipient, daunting challenges and dependable master. There is a clear instruction from our Lord Jesus Christ for every believer to go and preach the word. As Ezekiel was sent to a rebellious people during his time, believers are sent to this present evil world to preach the gospel.

Believers are sent to take the undiluted word of God to the sinning world. This will not be without resistance, opposition and violent persecution that could lead to complete loss of courage. God's word of encouragement to His servants is, "be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house."

There are strong resistance today to both the message and messengers of God. There are multiple cases of rebellion among children, youths and adults against the laws of God. But we are instructed not to be dismayed. Believers can only deliver the gospel message with boldness when they remain faithful and steadfast in the faith. There is also the need to "eat" the word of God as we are admonished to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly.
