IN THE DAYS OF NOAH. Luke 17:26-30 continued.

4. Worldly Value System. The coming of the Lord shall be like the time of Noah. Remember the meaning of the name ‘Noah? “And he called his name Noah, saying, 'This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD has cursed'” (Genesis 5:29). Lamech, Noah’s father, spoke this by the spirit of prophecy. He foresaw that his son would grow to be righteous in the midst of a moral catastrophe. He saw Noah walking with God in a perverted generation, delivering his family through godly fear, and preserving humanity through his obedience.

Worldliness has its own value system, one that fights the prescriptions for godly living given in the Scripture. As it was in Noah’s day, so it is today. The voice and blessings of God are reduced to the basal, sensual, and ordinary aspects of life: occupations, the fleeting pleasures of sin, eating, marrying, planting, and business. Today’s church is increasingly indifferent to holy living and reverential worship of God. Sanctification is viewed as old-fashioned, and discussing the return of the Lord is often dismissed as uncivilized. Yet, these very features of worldliness are signals of the imminent return of our Lord.

a. Insensitivity to Prophecy We are the generation of the prophesied "perilous times" (2 Timothy 3:1-7). The cataclysmic events we once thought were far in the future are now upon us. Satan has advanced his deceptive work, successfully influencing the church to trivialize spiritual matters and the true sources of grace.
Graceless messages now threaten the soul, and prayerlessness has become the principal sin of the modern church. Earnest, concerted intercession has eluded us. Because redemptive visions and messages are scarce, multitudes flock to churches while remaining entrenched in gross immorality and worldly values. As prophesied, many have cast off restraint, allowing the flesh to go berserk through the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. However, we must remember: “Moreover, the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more” (Romans 5:20).

b. Desecration of the Altar The altar is being desecrated as comedians take over the sacred spaces of the LORD. Today, many so-called "churches" embrace worldly lifestyles and sexual perversions, promising heaven without reference to Christ or holiness. The grace of the Lord’s Table is frequently misused, and God’s sacred commandments regarding marriage are being redefined. Even the nature of God Himself is being reimagined!

Satan plans to manufacture misery. Having fallen from the highest grace into disgrace, he now seeks to lead the Church to abuse God’s saving grace. His goal is to fill pulpits with celebrity pastors who preach graceless sermons. Satan, already judged and condemned, wants to ensure that as many as possible join him in a place devoid of the “light of life” that only Christ provides.

c. Separation of the Sons of God Remember, there was a great revival in the time of Enosh, the son of Seth, whom Adam fathered after Cain slew Abel. “And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the LORD” (Genesis 4:26).
Enoch, the fourth generation from Seth and the great-great-grandfather of Noah, was born into this revival. He walked with God and was taken. During that time, God began to inspire the hearts of the righteous to restore true religion, which the wicked lineage of Cain had suppressed. It was a significant season of restoring the worship and intercession that Abel had started—a movement for a remnant that would endure God’s judgment.

God has always reserved a remnant of His people who abide in grace and are taught to “...deny ungodliness and worldly lusts.” These are the ones being discipled to “live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:11-13).
No matter how corrupt this world becomes, there will always be men and women who, like Noah, shall by grace walk with God in righteousness. Though sin may pervade the visible church, “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: ‘The Lord knows those who are His,’ and, ‘Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity’” (2 Timothy 2:19). We are only truly what we are in the mind of God. Be encouraged!
