CrimeFulani Herdsmen Flee As Thunder Allegedly Kills About 50 Cows In Ijare, Ondostat by chrysora(op): 4:02pm On Sep 23, 2019
Report has it that about 50 cows belonging to Fulani herdsmen have been struck to death by thunder and lightning in Ijare community in the Ifedore local government area of Ondo state.

The cows were recently moved by Fulani herdsmen into the community’s sacred groove located on the town’s mountain top when the disaster occurred.

The mountain top where the incident occurred had the cows laying down lifelessly, littering the ground.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity described the incident as the wrath of their gods on the herdsmen as he claimed that the herdsmen desecrated the sacred groove which is forbidden in the town.

While the incident lasted, the herdsmen were reported to have taken to their heels, abandoning their luggage as they couldn’t help their cattle from dying.

PoliticsStop Maltreating Osinbajo, MASSOB Tells Buhari’s Aides by chrysora(op): 8:50am On Sep 23, 2019
The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra on Sunday asked President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides to stop maltreating Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The group alleged that the ‘subjective measures’ against Osibanjo by “vicious Fulani cabals dictating the affairs of Buhari” were calculated to suppress Christians in the country.

In a statement by MASSOB’s leader, Uchenna Madu, the secessionist group described Buhari’s quiet on the issue as “hypocritical silence”.

The statement reads in part, “The unconstitutional stripping of Prof. Yemi Osibanjo’s official attributes attached to the office of the Vice President of the Federation is continuous humiliation of Christians in high positions of current administration of President Mohammed Buhari.

“MASSOB recalls that on Monday, September 16, 2019, Prof Yemi Osibanjo was removed unceremoniously as Head of the Statutory National Economic Council. On Tuesday, September 17, agencies and ministerial departments under his watch were redirected to report directly to Mr President.

“Same day, virtually all his aides attached to the office of the Vice President were given marching orders to leave Aso Rock. MASSOB views all these subjective frustration as a payback time to Prof. Yemi Osibanjo by unrepentant and unforgiving cabals that have vowed to fulfil the commandments of their forefathers.”

CelebritiesBbnaija: Tacha And Diane Get Into Heated Argument Over Missing Red Box by chrysora(op): 5:12pm On Sep 20, 2019
Well, just days after the strikes were cancelled, frequent BBNaija offender, Tacha, got into a heated word exchange with another housemate, Diane. Their argument seemed to stem from Diane not paying close attention to the red veto power box which Biggie had kept in the care of the housemates. Obviously not impressed that the box was missing, Tacha lashed out at Diane as she accused her of getting drunk and forgetting to keep a close eye on the box. Interestingly, the housemates had received an unexpected guest, 2baba, and while they were being entertained by him in the arena, Diane perhaps got carried away and forgot the box which was in her care.

Tacha had called Diane stupid for leaving the box and taking alcohol knowing that she cannot handle it. She said: “You are stupid for leaving that box. You don drink. You don’t know how to drink and you’re drinking. Small pikin. “You should be happy that we are in this house. Outside this house you cannot even ask me what the time is. You cannot. You know you cannot.” Diane, on the other hand, slammed Tacha saying that her character is as dark as her soul.

PoliticsClosure Of Borders Yielding Positive Results -buhari by chrysora(op): 4:38pm On Sep 20, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari says the closure of Nigerian land borders for a limited period due to massive smuggling is already yielding positive result for the economy.

The president stated this when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Association for Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) at the State House, Abuja, on Friday.

The delegation also comprised of the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI) and representatives of the Organised Private Sector (OPS).

Buhari said that the closure was necessitated by the lack of adherence to the business ideals by various stakeholders which was detrimental to the country and its people.

”After many years of diplomacy and aggressive regulatory oversight which yielded few results, we decided to close our land borders for a limited time to assess the impact of this measure.

”Within a few short weeks, we are already seeing a decline in the volumes of counterfeit smuggled goods in some of our major markets across the country.

”This validates our action as a Government when we insist that the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) must not only promote free trade, but legal trade of quality made in Africa goods and services,” he said.

Buhari says everyone must play by the rules when it comes to trade and business activities that are central to Nigeria’s economic development.

He added that his administration would ensure that the trade and business sector continues to flourish in job creation.

He said: ”Unfortunately, in recent times, many traders simply do not play by the rules.

”Our markets are flooded with smuggled and counterfeit goods. By these selfish practices, we help keep foreign factories working while closing ours.

”From medicines to electronics to food items, our potential to manufacture and create jobs locally is severely hindered by a handful of Nigerians who choose profits over patriotism.

”We have all heard stories about the dangerous and sometimes, fatal impact of fake drugs and foods on our citizens.

”We have also seen how fake electrical items have led to fires in homes and markets thereby destroying lives and properties.

”Most of these substandard and illegal items are smuggled through our land borders.’’

According to the president, his administration will continue to solicit the support of the organised private sector, both in Nigeria and across West Africa, to bring an end to the dumping of substandard items.

He urged the Association to continue its ‘‘positive and patriotic contribution’’ towards achieving a free trade area that employs Africans to produce quality made in Africa products.

”We will soon finalise the National Action Committee on the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area. Your Association is a member of this committee.

”I expect you to continue your positive and patriotic contribution to support us in achieving a free trade area that employs Africans to produce quality made in Africa products,’’ the President said.

In her remarks, Hajiya Saratu Aliyu, President FEWACCI, NACCIMA and OPS, commended the recent decision by the President to constitute a new economic team to steer the Nigerian economy on the path of sustainable growth.

On the Economic Advisory Council (EAC), she said: ”NACCIMA, FEWACCI and indeed the OPS are full of hope that a new era is on the horizon with the calibre of persons on the team which reassures us at the OPS that Government is ready to turn around the story of Nigeria.”

Aliyu also hailed significant accomplishments recorded in all sectors of the economy including but not limited to reduced corruption, foreign exchange stability, bottom of the pyramid programmes, increased ease of doing business, increased capital expenditures, among others.

The president of NACCIMA appealed for the President’s intervention in the provision of property within Abuja for the location of FEWACCI headquarters.

She also briefed the President about the 21-point NACCIMA programme, tagged ‘‘Unleash the Giant’’.

She added that the association intended to engage the Federal Government on 16 of those stated points with the goal of ensuring business growth and socioeconomic advancement through public and private sector collaboration.

PoliticsBuhari Wants Zero Crime Society – IGP by chrysora(op): 6:10am On Sep 20, 2019
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, says President Muhammadu has charged security heads, including service chiefs to redouble their efforts in order to achieve ‘a zero crime society’ across the country. Adamu said this yesterday in Abuja while briefing State House correspondents after a security meeting with President Buhari.

“We just finished security meeting and we have noticed within this quarter that the security situation in the country is stable, we make comparism of what has happened in the previous quarters and this quarter and we saw that there is tremendous decrease in kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and even acts of cultism.

“And you can see the situation in Northwest, banditry has reduced tremendously, kidnapping also has gone down and we have statistics to back it. And having noticed that, we have been charged by Mr President to do more.”

PoliticsXenophobia: No Need To Apologise To Nigeria-mayor Of Johannesburg by chrysora(op): 1:25pm On Sep 18, 2019
Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba has said it “was not necessary” for South Africa to apologise to Nigeria for the recent xenophobic attacks.

“No, there is nothing for me to apologise about,” Mashaba said on CNBC Africa’s Political Capital on Tuesday.

“What do you expect me to really apologise for?”

Nigerians and other foreign nationals were attacked earlier in September by irate mobs of South Africans who blamed them for spiking unemployment and drug-related crime rates.

Many non-South African businesses in and around Johannesburg and Pretoria were also vandalised and looted by the mob.

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa apologised for the violence at the weekend in Zimbabwe.

The violence, which claimed the lives of 12 persons, most of whom were South Africans, caused diplomatic rows between the country and her neighbours and Nigeria.

Nigeria, Rwanda, Congo and Malawi boycotted the World Economic Forum meeting held in Cape Town last week as a result.

Botswana told her citizens “travelling to South Africa to exercise extreme caution in light of recent developments resulting in violent unrests.”

Zambia also called off a planned football friendly with South Africa.

But Mashaba, the mayor of Africa’s richest city, is unfazed by the violence although he insisted that he was not xenophobic.

His stance mirrors those of former South African deputy police minister Bongani Mkongi, foreign affairs minister Naledi Pandor and former president Thabo Mbeki.

South Africa has had an alarming increase in crime rates, especially femicide. The South African leaders accused Nigerians of being the ringleaders of drug and prostitution cartels in the country.

“We are not going to turn a blind eye on such evil crime happening under our watch,” Mashaba said, adding that “the country [South Africa] also owes an official apology to the 10.2 million unemployed South Africans who are today without jobs as a result of billions of counterfeit goods being brought illegally into the country, killing local manufacturing.”

Possible litigations
Tough talks by South African leaders like Mashaba and Pandor shows that the xenophobic violence was “sponsored or condoned” by the country’s authorities, Nigeria’s former minister of foreign affairs Professor Bolaji Akinyemi said in a statement on Sunday.

Akinyemi urged Nigeria to drag South Africa before the International Criminal Court.

Although President Muhammadu Buhari told South Africa’s special envoy who visited him on Monday that he will work for a closer tie between the two countries, foreign affairs minister Geoffrey Onyeama told The Guardian a day before that Nigeria was weighing her options, including suing South Africa.

“We cannot rule anything out for now,” he said.

Discussions about the attacks are expected to come up when Buhari and Ramaphosa meet in South Africa next month.

Temporary fix
As a temporary measure, Nigeria began the evacuation of her citizens willing to leave South Africa. The process is being bankrolled by a private airline Air Peace.

But the evacuation itself has not been without drama.

The chief executive officer of Air Peace Allen Onyema accused South African authorities of denying Air Peace landing to fly returnees out on Tuesday. But Nigeria’s Consul- General in Johannesburg Godwin Adama said the permit was later granted.

Onyema also accused South African officials of claiming that evacuation was not backed by the Nigerian government.

BusinessCBN Begins Charges On Deposits, Withdrawals Above N500,000 by chrysora(op): 9:30am On Sep 18, 2019
The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday said that the nationwide implementation of the cashless policy will begin by March 2020.

The apex bank said this in a circular to all Deposit Money Banks in the country.

It said that implementation of the policy would signal the imposition of charges on deposits in addition to already existing charges on withdrawals.

According to the circular, the charges, which take effect from Wednesday (today) will attract three per cent processing fees for withdrawals and two per cent processing fees for lodgments of amounts above N500, 000 for individual accounts.

For corporate accounts, the apex bank in the circular said that DMBs would charge five per cent processing fees for withdrawals and three per cent processing fee for lodgments of amounts above N3, 000, 000.

The statement, however, disclosed that the charge on deposits would apply in Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Abia, Anambra, and Rivers States as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

It added that the implementation of the cashless policy would take effect from March 31, 2020.

To further promote the cashless policy and enhance the collection of applicable government revenues, the CBN also announced a review of the process for merchant settlement.

It added that with effect from Tuesday, September 17, the CBN had given approval for banks to unbundle merchant settlement amounts and charge applicable taxes and duties on individual transactions as stipulated by regulations.

A statement signed by the Director, Payments System Management Department, CBN, Sam Okojere, said a downward review of the Merchant Service Charge had been approved.

It said henceforth, the charges had been reduced from 0.75 per cent capped at N1, 200 to 0.50 per cent capped at N1, 000.

Politics2023: Anyone Preventing Igbo Presidency Is Unpatriotic – Statesmen Declare by chrysora(op): 9:48am On Sep 17, 2019
Prominent Nigerians have given the quest for Igbo presidency a boost, insisting that the nation’s highest political office should go to the south-east in 2019. Speaking with Daily Sun, the prominent Nigerians, including the former head, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Nigerian Army, Major-Gen Ishola Williams, said supporting the south-east to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2019 is the right thing to do.

Legit.ng gathers that Williams, in reaction to reports that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is nursing presidential ambitions for 2019, insisted that the next president should come from the south-east, even though he noted that Tinubu has a right to contest.

He said: “Obasanjo has gone for two terms; Yar’Adua, who did not complete his two terms, had Jonathan who did it for him. In addition, he (Jonathan) had one term, and Buhari making two terms now. We have been rotating it. “Secondly, a Yoruba man as vice president, two terms. Why don’t we have an Igbo president and somebody from the Middle Belt as vice president? That is what I am looking for? Any ethnic group in this country can produce one very good leader.” Also echoing Williams’ view, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, a former Kaduna state governor, said there should at least be rotation of power among the four basic zones – North, south-south, south-west and south-east. He said 2019 appears the ideal time for power rotation between the North and South to be balanced, considering the fact that the south-east is the only major zone that has not occupied the presidential seat.

He said: “The North has had it so many times; the south-west had it twice, the south-south had it once and south-east is yet to have it. So, for the sake of justice and giving them a sense of belonging, the south-east should have its time. “There is no sentiment attached to that. Let the south-east have it so that Nigerians can compare what the south-east will do with what the North, south-west and south-south have done.”

Musa insisted that there are great Nigerians from the south-east. He added: “As far as I am concerned, for the sake of justice, national unity, peace and progressive development in the country, the south-east should have the presidency in 2023. “Anybody who is preventing the south-east from having it is definitely unpatriotic and is endangering the unity of the country.” In the same vein, another elder statesman, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also backed the south-east to produce the country’s next president.

He said: “The North has occupied the position of presidency; the south-west has occupied that same seat as well as the south-south. So, if all others have occupied that position, why not Ndigbo? If Ndigbo are serious, they should be supported in 2019 presidential poll.”

The executive secretary of Anti-Corruption and Research-Based Data Initiative (ARDI), Dennis Aghanya, warned Igbos against any further cyberattack on the president. Aghanya urged the Igbos to focus more on planning a succession strategy after the president in 2023.

Aghanya, in a statement said: “Ndigbo should desist from this self-destructive tendency by chasing after Buhari’s certificate and strategize for the 2023 presidency.”

PoliticsI Will Join IPOB If They Convince Me- Okorocha. by chrysora(op): 12:09pm On Sep 15, 2019
The immediate past governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha has called for a platform to have a conversation with members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying that he will join them if they convince him where IPOB will lead Ndigbo to.

Okorocha who represents the people of Imo West Senatorial District in the Red Chambers admitted that he knows members of IPOB, stated that members of IPOB may have reasons to be angry with Nigeria. However, he said, they are like children who need the guidance of the elders to be able to frame their agitation in the right manner.

Speaking to Sunday Sun about what his views are of IPOB, Okorocha said:

“In the first place, IPOB is not different from other similar groups from other parts of the country, but it is just the packaging and name that have always been the problem,” he was quoted by Sun.

“I don’t know what we plan to achieve by isolating ourselves from the rest of the country. And until IPOB answers the question, the leaders might not know how to handle it.

“When you say IPOB, are they trying to call for another sovereign nation? If they want to use this as a way of correcting certain injustices meted to the Igbo, then they should change the name to start with.

“When Oduduwa, Arewa or Niger Delta youths talk, they don’t call for a sovereign nation. For Igbo to become a country of their own, they have to think about the consequences.

“Personally, I don’t think it is good for the Igbo to become isolated from other nations and tribes in this country.

“Although the young men may have grievances, they should package them properly for the world to understand what they are fighting for.

“To be honest with you, I don’t know what IPOB is looking for till date. I don’t know what the agenda of IPOB are and where they are planning to take Ndigbo to.

“The leaders seem to have kept quiet for too long. As our children, we need to guild them and let them know that they cannot be talking about sovereignty within a nation.

“What programme do they have in the first place? What has IPOB done about the Igbo killed in South Africa? Is it not surprising that they have not done anything?

“I challenge all the Igbo to return from South Africa, India and other parts of the world, converge on Onitsha market and let us see what will happen.

“I don’t think the Igbo need IPOB at this point; it is rather a distraction that is not good for our political future. It might be the reason we are not doing well politically, yet we are adding more danger to it.

“They are our children; we love them and need to bring them closer. So, it is the failure of leadership in Igboland that should be blamed. We are not showing good leadership to these boys.

“They are children and look at how they attacked Ekweremadu, but how have the attack or threat to other political leaders solved the problem of Igbo in Nigeria?

“How has it corrected the problem of marginalisation of Igbo in Nigeria? They are beating up people in the name of IPOB in Owerri, Aba and other towns, but how has that solved the problem?

“I think IPOB is rather waging war against ourselves which should not be. I am looking forward to meeting with them anytime to address this issue and if they convince me, I will follow them and if I convince them, they should follow me.

“Can we have a meeting where the Igbo will meet with these IPOB, MASSOB and those other associations to find a common ground because whether they are bad, good or evil, they are our brothers, children, sons and daughters?

“I cannot lay claim that I don’t know them because they are Igbo and it is my duty to have a chat with them as a father. They must convince me on why I must join IPOB and where it is taking us to.

“I have told them to join APC because through APC, Igbo man might become president and if they have contrary view, they can look for alternative. IPOB needs to explain where they want to take Ndigbo to.”

PoliticsBoko Haram’s Easy Access To Funds, Sophisticated Weapons Worrisome – Buhari by chrysora(op): 5:16am On Sep 15, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari said on Saturday that the ease with which Boko Haram terrorists raise funds and acquire sophisticated weapons to carry out attacks had become a matter of serious concern.

He added that the continuous spread of the menace of terrorism in the region and the growing link between terrorism and organised crime were equally worrisome, while noting that unless there was urgent cooperation among the leaders in the sub-region, terrorists could destabilise the sub-region.

Speaking at Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Saturday when he addressed the Extraordinary Summit of the Authority of the Economic Community of West African States’ Heads of State and Government on Counter-Terrorism, Buhari called on leaders of ECOWAS member states to step up efforts to end terrorism in the sub-region.

A statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, quoted him (Buhari) as saying, “Our region has made commendable progress in the realisation of its regional integration and we must not allow terrorist groups to destabilise our Community (ECOWAS) and undermine the aspirations of our people for a safe, secure and prosperous environment.

“It is, therefore, our collective responsibility not to let up but to win the fight against terrorism and stamp out the scourge from our region.

“The frequency of attacks, the determination and resilience of the terrorist groups as well as the ease with which they raise funds and acquire sophisticated weapons are matters of serious concern, which should engage our attention as a Community.

‘’Equally worrisome is the continuous spread of the menace of terrorism in the region and the growing link between terrorism and organised crime. This is why we must not relent in our efforts until we defeat the monster completely.

“And the best way to achieve this objective is through coordinated regional actions and responses against terrorism, insurgency, banditry and inter-communal disputes, while we also put in place policies and measures that will address their root causes including the re-establishment and protection of livelihoods.”More in Home

Speaking on the situation in the Lake Chad Basin, he commended the efforts of the Multinational Joint Task Force in tackling insurgency in the area, adding that the place had become like an abode for the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou, announced at the summit that ECOWAS leaders had decided to mobilise “financial resources of up to a billion dollars for the fight against terrorism.”

He said the plan would be funded from 2020 to 2024. The summit was also attended by Mauritania (in North-West Africa) and Chad (in North-Central Africa).

Issoufou noted that the money would be paid into a common fund to help reinforce the military operations of the nations involved and those of the joint military operations in the region.

He said full details of the plan would be presented to the next ECOWAS summit in December.

CrimeMan Arrested For Stealing Trump’s Gold Toilet by chrysora(op): 4:36pm On Sep 14, 2019
An 18-carat solid gold toilet has been stolen in a burglary overnight at Blenheim Palace.

A gang broke into the Oxfordshire palace at about 04:50 BST and stole the artwork, Thames Valley Police said.

The working toilet – entitled America, which visitors had been invited to use – has not been found but a 66-year-old man has been arrested.

The burglary caused “significant damage and flooding” because the toilet was plumbed into the building, police said.

It was part of an exhibition by Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan that opened on Thursday.

The 18th Century stately home is a World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. It is currently closed while investigations continue.

Speaking last month, Edward Spencer-Churchill – half-brother of the current Duke of Marlborough – said he was relaxed about security for the artwork.

“It’s not going to be the easiest thing to nick,” he said.

Visitors to the exhibition were free to use the palace’s throne for its intended purpose, with a three-minute time limit to avoid queues.

Det Insp Jess Milne, said: “The piece of art that has been stolen is a high-value toilet made out of gold that was on display at the palace.

“We believe a group of offenders used at least two vehicles during the offence.

“The artwork has not been recovered at this time but we are conducting a thorough investigation to find it and bring those responsible to justice.”

In a tweet, Blenheim Palace said it would remain shut for the rest of the day, but would reopen on Sunday.

Palace chief executive Dominic Hare said they were “saddened by this extraordinary event, but also relieved no-one was hurt”.

The gold toilet was famously offered to US President Donald Trump in 2017.

The arrested man is in police custody.

EducationRats Can Be Taught To Play Hide And Seek, And They Squeal With Joy When They Win by chrysora(op): 5:50pm On Sep 13, 2019
Rats can be taught to play hide and seek — and they squeal with joy when they win, scientists have found. Both wild and domesticated animals have been known to play, but neuroscientists from Berlin’s Humboldt University wanted to know more about the topic after hearing from pet owners and vets that rats seemed to be engaging in more complex forms of play.”It has long been known that rats engage in simple forms of play — rough and tumble — but we wanted to know if they could do more complex games, like hide and seek,” neurobiologist Michael Brecht, an author of the study, published in the journal Science, told CNN.

Holed up in a laboratory with the rats and a selection of remotely controlled boxes, a team of scientists played a version of the childhood game with the rodents, teaching them how to hide from and find the researchers.Over a period of a few weeks, they found that the rats quickly learned how to hide and seek — and even started to develop tactics and strategies for the game.

After being discovered, the rats would 're-hide,' even if it stopped them receiving their reward.
After being discovered, the rats would ‘re-hide,’ even if it stopped them receiving their reward.Instead of being given food, the rats were tickled as their reward for both hiding and finding the researchers. But after being discovered, the rats would sometimes “re-hide,” even if it meant a delay in receiving their reward — proof, the scientists believe, that the rats were playing for the sake of it.Although quiet when hiding, researchers said the the rats “squealed with joy” when they discovered the scientists — something researchers think shows an understanding of the game’s rules.

“They look like they’re having fun, they come running,” Brecht told CNN. “They’re very vocal, they call all the time because they are thrilled about it. But then they hide, they are pretty silent,” he said.

Brecht also said his team offered the animals “stupid” hiding places, such as transparent boxes — but the animals played strategically, instead opting for “smart hiding places” — opaque boxes, which provided better cover. The team studied neural activity in the rats’ prefrontal cortex as they played — and found that several cells in the brain region responded to certain aspects of the game. The research could offer further insight into the link between play and cognitive abilities, Brecht believes.

PoliticsTribunal’s Verdict: PDP Asks Lai Mohammed, Others Not To Celebrate Yet by chrysora(op): 4:54am On Sep 13, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, to be cautious in celebrating the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

In a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said the “gloating” of those celebrating the verdict would be short-lived.

Mr Mohammed had asked the PDP to tender an apology to Nigerians for distracting the Muhammadu Buhari administration with an election petition, rather than appealing the Tribunal’s judgement.

Reacting to the minister’s comment, the PDP insisted that the judgment was “a direct miscarriage of justice” which would not stand at the Supreme Court.

The opposition party stressed that it has enough evidence against President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC), to win at the apex court.

“The PDP notes that those celebrating this attempt to corrupt our justice system as well as the brazen approval of a clear case of perjury are directly telling Nigerians something about their conscience and character.

“Our party is not surprised that Lai Mohammed, speaking for the Buhari administration, came short of calling for the arrest and prosecution of opposition members for coming before the Appeal Court, a situation which exposed their belief that they own the court and can determine the position of the judiciary on any matter.

“Notwithstanding, the PDP holds that Nigerians have seen the ‘several errors’ in the judgment delivered by the Appeal Court and have turned the verdict to a butt of jokes in public space,” the statement read.

The PDP asked the minister to tell Nigerians if his law degree was awarded to him on the basis of a sworn affidavit and pictures of his classmates, or whether his call to the bar at the Nigerian Law School was based on the presentation of pictures and affidavit.

It said that Mr Mohammed’s statement has heightened apprehension among Nigerians about alleged manipulations of process by the APC and the present administration.

According to the party, this is the reason the PDP stands with Nigerians in heading to the Supreme Court to uphold justice in the matter and salvage the nation from the drift towards impunity.

“In the meantime, the PDP counsels Lai Mohammed to redeem his image by offering explanations to Nigerians on his alleged role in the N2.5 billion National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) fraud before casting aspersion on others,” the statement added.

PoliticsPDP, Atiku Should Apologize To Nigerians, Instead Of Appealing Judgement, Says L by chrysora(op): 5:32pm On Sep 12, 2019
The minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate in the last general elections, Atiku Abubakar, to apologize to Nigerians for wilfully distracting the Buhari Administration with a frivolous election petition, instead of appealing the ruling of Wednesday’s Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

In a statement issued in St Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday by the minister, he said while the PDP and its candidate reserve the right to pursue their petition to the highest level, they will be better served by dropping their toga of desperation and realizing that ‘there is a limit to tomfoolery.’

”Nigerians are tired of this orchestrated distraction, and will rather wish that the opposition, having lost at the polls and in court, will now join hands with the government to move Nigeria to the next level.

”This is more so that the judgement validating the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari was unanimous that the petition lacked merit, that the petitioners failed to prove any of the grounds upon which their case was anchored and that President Buhari is eminently qualified to contest the poll,” he said.

Mohammed said instead of casting aspersion on the judiciary with their poorly-framed reaction to the ruling of the tribunal, the PDP and its candidate should be thanking their stars that they are not being prosecuted for coming to court with a fraudulently-obtained evidence. ”It is intriguing that a party that trumpets the rule of law at every turn will present, in open court, evidence it claimed to have obtained by hacking into a supposed INEC server. Don’t they realize this is a criminal act for which they are liable? “Instead of threatening to head to the Supreme Court, driven more by ego than commonsense, they should be sorry for allowing desperation to overwhelm their sense of reasoning. Enough is enough,” he said. The minister commended the tribunal for not only doing justice to the case but for explaining, in painstaking details that lasted hours, how it arrived at its judgement. ”We also thank Nigerians, who voted massively to re-elect President Buhari, for their continued support,” he said.

PoliticsElection Tribunal: Accept Defeat, Work With Buhari, Wase Urges Atiku by chrysora(op): 8:08pm On Sep 11, 2019
the Presidential Election Appeal Tribunal on Wednesday, describing the judgment as victory for democracy and the rule of law.

Wase added that with the judgment by the tribunal, Nigerians should eschew partisanship and rally behind the President in his quest to bring the much needed reforms.

He also commended the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for availing himself of the country’s legal and judicial system, while advising the former vice-president to accept the verdict in good faith.

“I acknowledged the efforts of the presidential candidate of the opposition PDP for availing himself of the nation’s legal system but wish to advise him to team up with President Buhari as he focuses on the enormous task of re-engineering the nation, fixing the economy, creating jobs, tackling corruption insecurity for a secured and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Puma, the Deputy Speaker said tribunal had, by its verdict, vindicated the Independent National Electoral Commission which declared President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the presidential election “in line with the mandate freely and willingly given by Nigerians.”

He said, “It is victory for democracy, victory for the rule of law, victory for the APC, victory for majority of Nigerians who voted massively for President Buhari, but most importantly, victory for the truth, which will always be constant.

“The ruling has also vindicated the position of our party, the APC that the presidential election conducted on February 23, 2019 was transparent, free and credible and that majority of Nigerians preferred President Muhammadu Buhari over and above the candidate of the PDP; and indeed voted massively for the candidate of the their choice.”

According to Wase, the judgment has further reaffirmed the confidence Nigerians have in the ability of Buhari to lead the country and their decision to re-elect him to take Nigerians to the next level.

The Deputy Speaker also congratulated the panel of jurists that sat through the case, describing the verdict as thorough.

“I wish to congratulate the learned jurists for delivering a thorough verdict, which will no doubt stand the test of time and strengthen the faith of the common man in the judiciary,” he stated.

PoliticsJUST IN: PDP Reject Tribunal’s Judgment, Heads To Supreme Court ….says Verdict, by chrysora(op): 6:54pm On Sep 11, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) completely rejects the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal describing it as provocative, barefaced subversion of justice and direct assault on the integrity of our nation’s justice system.

The party is particularly shocked that the tribunal failed to point to justice despite the flawless evidence laid before it, showing that President Buhari was not only unqualified to contest the election but also did not score the majority of valid votes at the polls.

The PDP finds as bewildering that a court of law could validate a clear case of perjury and declaration of false information in a sworn affidavit, as firmly established against President Muhammadu Buhari, even in the face of incontrovertible evidence.

The party is also rudely shocked that the Court took over the roles of the Respondents’ lawyers who clearly abandoned their pleadings by refusing to call evidence in defense of the petition. The court raked up all manner of excuses to make up for the yawning gaps occasioned by the total absence of any evidence from the Respondents.

Nigerians and the international community watched in utter disbelief when the tribunal ruled that one need not provide a copy or certified true copy of educational certificate such individual claimed to possess, contrary to established proof of claims of certification.

The party notes as strange that the court even went ahead to provide rationalizations in favour of President Buhari, even when all hard facts before it shows that he did not possess the claimed educational certificate and that the Army was not in possession of his WAEC certificate as claimed in the affidavit he deposed to in his Presidential nomination form.

The PDP also described as shocking that the court approved the flawed declaration of President Buhari as the winner of the election despite evidence to show the perpetration of illegalities, manipulations, alterations and subtraction of valid votes freely given to Atiku Abubakar by Nigerians.

Indeed, the pervading melancholic atmosphere across our nation since the verdict is a direct indication that the judgment has not fulfilled the desires and expectations of Nigerians.

The PDP however encouraged Nigerians to remain calm and not to lose hope or surrender to despondency or self-help, as our lawyers are upbeat in obtaining justice at the Supreme Court.

This is more so as the tribunal itself admitted that there are several errors in the judgment.

PoliticsWhy Millions Of Nigerians Experience Hardship And Sickness —buhari by chrysora(op): 7:01pm On Sep 10, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said that corruption was the major factor responsible for the suffering of millions of Nigerians.

Buhari added that corruption at all levels was the biggest problem impeding Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

The president made the remark at the 49th Annual Accountant Conference organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in Abuja.

The theme of the conference was; “Building Nigeria for Sustainable Growth and Development.’’

“I urge you now to always see corruption in its true colour as a gross violation of human right. Corruption is the major reason why millions of our people are in hardship, sick and helpless.

He said that it prevents good governance and encourage misappropriation of public funds, stiffens innovation, infrastructure development and investments.

Represented by Mr Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the president said: “Our fight against corruption is in reality a struggle for nation building and the future.

“Corruption and impunity becomes widespread when accountability is disregarded.

“Disrespect for accountability also strives when people get away with all manner of questionable things and accountants are unable to check them.

“Corruption is the major reason why many children cannot go to school, why we have few equipments and doctors in our hospitals.

“Corruption diverts public resources thereby causing much suffering, deprivation and unnecessary death in the country.

“Therefore, if we do not slay corruption with the passion it deserves, we will not get the result that we need.’’

Buhari reiterated that the government was committed toward achieving structural economic change and a more diversified and inclusive economy.

He said that it was for this reason that he had signed many executive orders aimed at improving the business conditions in the country.

“We signed the Executive Order 7 of 2019 on Road Infrastructure Development and Rehabilitation Investment Tax Credit Scheme.

“This Executive Order aims to accelerate road infrastructure development for a balanced economic growth in Nigeria by granting approvals to private sector entities to construct and rehabilitate eligible roads across the country.

“This is in exchange for tax credits which will be applied against their company income tax.

“The motivation for the scheme comes from the desire to take advantage of private sector funding to road development in our country,’’ he said.

Also, the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu called on Nigerians to join the fight against corruption.

Magu said the fight against corruption could not be won if it was left alone to the EFCC and other anti-graft agencies.

In his remark, the President of ICAN, Mr Nnamdi Okwuadigbo pledged the institute’s commitment to facilitating economic growth and development in the country.

“Now is the time to redeem our image in the committee of nations. We cannot afford to fail as the largest economy in Africa.

“As chartered accountants we are at a vantage position to determine the effective use of public funds and we charge you to be front runners in the fight against corruption,” he said.

Health‘2 Years Is Normal For Breastfeeding’ by chrysora(op): 12:46pm On Aug 27, 2019
Dr Bessie Eziechila, the Consultant Paediatrician with Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jabi, says two years is the normal duration for breastfeeding for the advantage of both child and mother. Eziechila told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday that “two years is the complete, adequate period and ideal for breastfeeding a child.’’

She urged working mothers to explore necessary avenues of breastfeeding their children for their wellbeing, saying “working mothers can express breast milk and store for varying number of hours depending on the mode of storage.’’

“Their work environment can also be made baby-friendly to enable them breastfeed at work, I mean when they resume from maternity leave,” Eziechila said. She described breastfeeding as non negotiable aspect of childcare, adding “it is a roadmap to healthy society’’.

NAN reports that the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended the practice of up to two years and beyond for breastfeeding. Exclusive breastfeeding which is described as the best, according to paediatricians helps in family planning by slowing the return of ovulation. Medical experts are of the opinion that children exclusively breastfed tend to be healthier and more intelligent than others. (NAN)

PoliticsAttacking Buhari In Japan‘ll Portray Igbo As Terrorists – Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth by chrysora(op): 7:37am On Aug 27, 2019
A group known as Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Tuesday asked those planning to attack President Muhammadu Buhari in Japan to have a re-think, noting that Ndigbo would be seen as a terrorist group if they go ahead with their planned attack.

Mazi Okechukwu isiguzoro, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, made the appeal in a statement he sent to Vanguard.

Recall that the leader of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had charged his members residing in Japan to humiliate and arrest Buhari.

But reacting on his statement, Isiguzoro said, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide is calling on Igbo planning violent Protest in Japan to arrest of President Muhammadu Buhari to put off such senseless plot as it endangers the lives and properties of Igbo living in 19 Northern States.

“Apart from the risk of being jailed or deported from Japan, anything else that happens to Buhari will certainly put Igbo in danger.

“Most of those sponsoring the planned attack to humiliate Buhari, do not have any investment in Nigeria particularly the South East.

“Igbo are wiser than yesterday, many IPOB leaders including Nnamdi Kanu, do not have investment in the South East or Biafra land.

“Many of them are yet to build house in the South East. Many of the people staging the protest should remember that they’re the breadwinners of their families in Nigeria.

“We should vigorously defend our land while building bridges across the Niger. We are Praying for IPOB leaders to repent and stop jeopardizing the peaceful atmosphere we have experienced in the South East since the War ended in 1970.

“Attacking President Muhammadu Buhari in Japan is not an achievement, but will portray Igbo before the international community as terrorists that we can never be.

“Irrespective of that, Igbo are facing political and economic difficulties in Nigeria, coupled with the uprising of insecurity challenges emanating from herdsmen.

“We should not worsen the situation by introducing violent Protest, it will affect Igbo in the north.”

He enjoined prospective Corps members to make adequate travel plans, “as every successful journey starts with a good plan” and also charging them to abhor night journeys; as such journeys make one susceptible to falling on harm’s way.

He strongly advised the Prospective corps members to avoid edibles from strangers as they could be laced with sleep-inducing substance that could make one a victim of kidnappers, robbers, ritualists and rapists.

“While in the vehicle, never get involved, either actively or passively on discussions that border on religion, politics and tribe. Just mind your business.

PoliticsMiyetti Allah Threatened To Shutdown Meat Markets All Over Nigeria. by chrysora(op): 6:37pm On Aug 15, 2019
Follow the shocking move made by Miyetti Allah to shut down meat markets in Enugu state due to insecurity of the herdsmen residing in Enugu, the leader of cattle breeders association has made an open announcement that there is going to be a nation wide shutdown of all the meat markets in Nigeria.
He made this statement on live TV program in AIT kastina.
He said ” There is going to be a serious scarcity of meat in Nigeria very soon because we are shutting down entire meat markets in Nigeria. This is because entire Igbo people in Southern Nigeria here have never appreciated our constant effort over the years now to ensure availability of meat in the nation”
Even when the government decided to support our work to establish the RUGA settlement in South, the igbos were the first to oppose that notion, thereby causing the plans of the federal government to be null and void.
We have decided to shutdown the meat markets Nationwide just to see how terrible life will be without meat for months. You can never appreciate our works until the day we take this action.
Apart from this, we are also doing this to save the lives of herdsmen residing in South East and South South base of threats we have received many times from the leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo and from people in Enugu, Abia and Rivers State, which is not a good sign that our lives are secured.
The only news we hear daily is just accusations of killings just like the hersmen were recently acused of killing a Reverend father in Enugu which we know it was a cooked plan.
This new plan will take place few weeks from now and Nigeria will see our values.
