Fifty-two out of 76 commercial motorbike riders and pillions who were arrested in a recent operation have been fined 2.1 million

The riders, also known as “okada operators”, paid fines ranging between N24,000 and N96,000
Six of the motorbikes used by the riders have been confiscated to the state.
Currently, there are four cases before the court, while 20 cases are still under investigation.
The MTTU started an operation on March 18, 2013 to enforce the law which bans the use of motorbikes for commercial purposes after the Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, had charged the police to do so.
The Traffic Regulation 2012 (Legislative Instrument 2180) passed by Law bans commercial motorbike operations. The law also bans the use of television or video monitors on the dashboards of moving vehicles.
The instrument further bans the use of cellular phones and other hand-held communication devices while driving.
ACP urged the government to give a percentage of the fines paid by the riders to the MTTU to equip itself.
“The unit has inadequate tools and equipment such as speed guns and alcohol sensors to enhance its work and operations. Therefore, the government should consider giving it some percentage to resource the unit,” he said.
He said the operation would continue, in spite of the intervention of some people in high places and demonstrations by the riders.
“We will continue to enforce the law and discharge our duties without fear or favour,” he said.
ACP said the police had started another operation to arrest motor riders who rode on the shoulders of the road and motorists who used hazard light without justifiable reason.
He said individuals and organisations, including some private and national security services and the ministries, that used sirens unlawfully would be arrested.
He said driving on the shoulders of the road constituted an act of indiscipline and, therefore, advised motor riders to desist from that practice.

Yvonne Nelson returned from a trip to the USA where she acted a movie titled ‘A night in Vegas’.
She was greeted by the press at the airport. During the interaction she responded to a question about her relationship with the media and allegations of her blacklisting some media companies. She hesitantly answered that a website like Bella Naija will hear a story and will call her to know if the gist is true. The case is different here, bloggers and website managers just go to her Instagram pick up her photos and then make a mockery of her. She warned the media to desist from such.

In her own words she said: “…think about it, if it was you, how will you feel? I am not mentioning names but if you hear a story call who ever, find out their side of the story and push your own side if you want”.
Yvonne denied that the media do not contact her but just publishes whatever seems good to them.

Sometimes when you see a movie premier, the celebrities and producers smiling before the cameras and granting interviews, one will never recognize or appreciate the efforts put in by them. Certain names have become synonymous with Ghallywood especially Venus films, Jackie Appiah, Frank Raja, even Adjetey Annan.
In a movie set, a dressing room must be provided to enable actors to change their costumes. A private dressing room is equally important and made available for the actors to rest. Dressing room must be clean, private and secured, this helps in maintaining the dignity of the actors involved. It is not only that but it is the right thing to be done. It is heartbreaking to know that Venus films did not make any provision for the best welfare of their crew and thus will take most blame for this action of the actors on set.
Adjetey Annan was seen in public car park at A&C changing his clothes, for him as a man, there was nothing wrong his brain will tell him. He even said that this is how it is done in Nigeria. What he labeled as the ‘Asaba Style’ where actors change anywhere and anytime. At least his boxers was clean but still he should not do it again next time. Later he started eating a pack of rice in the car park too.
Jackie Appiah who recently emerged as the best actress at the Africa Magic viewers choice award in Lagos did not condescend too low as a woman but tried to maintain a little bit of privacy by changing in the car, imagine it yourself, a whole Jackie removing and putting back clothes inside a car at the A&C car park all because Venus Film did not provide the necessary logistics for their comfort.
To make things easier for crew members, a mobile truck could be provided.
This truck will house the bathrooms, changing rooms, and can double as offices for crew members. A lot more needs to be done to help our movie industry behave professionally, it is not wise to premier at silverbird, create the impression that it was of high standard when the actors were ridiculed on set.

Sometimes due to our modern perception of things we tend to look at things from the western perspective hence condemning our own culture and natural endowments. Come to think of it, where there is no law, there is no crime, and where there is no crime, there is no punishment. That could explain the recent position of Accra mall management. If that the law has always been there from the beginning it would have restrained people’s actions and hence no need for this development.
Of all the places in the world that a man and woman wants to have sex, their choice is the mall toilet. One cannot help but to wonder, who are the perpetrators of this carnal and sensual act?. Will those already in a relationship decide to experience a new environment using the Accra Mall’s toilet? A romantic date at the mall could end up in adventure, Possibly we cannot rule out any option here, anything can happen. Another thought is that those who meet for the first time, and drink their heads off, then decides a one night stand. You see they just met at the mall, negotiate and then retreat to a secluded place to do their thing. This kind madness must stop because Accra mall management has not only warned but put out a notice that when they catch you, you will feel the full weight of the law. How they will catch you, I can not say, it is not an acceptable privacy policy to install surveillance cameras in the toilet because that would mean observers free access to show. We have seen that it is always the nature of man when he is put in a position to maintain peace and order in the community, when he is entrusted with the security of others to protect and ensure compliance, that he is usually the first to break it. For example your night security man at home sleeps peacefully more than your entire household, so you wonder the need for them sometimes maybe just as a gateman. it raises further doubt as to who is actually doing this mall toilet sex…na the security people? As for me I could not enter the female toilet to determine if the notice is equally there but the other thing on the wall was an advert of fiesta condom, and you remember the accompanying song ‘she wants more’. The whole thing confuses me but one thing that is clear is that you should stop it. There are other things as well that they do not want you to do in inside their toilet, Check it out yourself and avoid trouble.
Many times to save the embarrassment of all concerned in the previous era, before the law was put on the wall, perhaps those caught in the act will argue that there is no rule against sex in the mall toilet, and also the mall management will try to maintain dignity knowing that from a legal point of view, they have no power but now they will deal with you. The Accra mall witnesses a lot of visitors from all over the world, Africans and non Africans alike, those used to a mall for long and those without a mall in their country at all but plaza. Are these foreigners the ones guilty of this?
Amazing to discover that the people doing this thing have guts, both male and female. Others feel that it is difficult but not impossible for someone of opposite sex to enter the toilet of another sex, a man will not enter the female’s wash room and vice versa.
That since Accra mall management did not specify the type of sexual intercourse that is unacceptable but simply ‘No Sex’, whatever you understand as sex to you is not allowed in their toilet. Only the purveyors can explain what led to this law? What type of sex is not allowed? What type of sex was going on? How many were caught in the act?
Finally the law is not meant for good people because in their civilization and decency, without law can comport themselves. As a matter of fact many laws are targeted, when some people feel that something is unacceptable will come out with a legal framework to contain the situation, so you bad man and bad woman that will do it in the Mall toilet, stop or face prosecution, I rest my case.

When The Environmental Health and safety Unit introduced the Ghana-Polluter Pay Principle (PPP), they believed that it was the answer to waste generation and management. The PPP according to a Snr. Lecturer Mr D.K Twerefou, University of Ghana ‘is a civil and social act that would enable economic agents as well as individuals to pay for waste they produce daily’.
The initiative from the Environmental Services Providers Association was to provide the opportunity for waste generators to contribute to sustainable financing of waste management, and mobilise additional revenue for environmental management. The initiative was supposed to help reduce pollution, provide incentive to control and clean pollution, including waste management, recycling, reuse as well as recovery of waste. It appears that reverse is the case for residents of the adenta aviation road where Zoomlion has a Polluter Pay as you dump Site. The Pay as you dump concept works like the Polluter-Pays Principle where residents pay before they are allowed to dump their solid waste at communal sanitary sites. The waste collected at this sites are then conveyed to a recycling place or a landfill. In the case of the adenta aviation residents, the waste is burnt there in the night, when the people are supposed to be sleeping and this has been going on every night unless it is raining.
The Implication of this impunity by zoomlion is as follows:
Air pollution: Burning waste produces smoke, especially if it is damp and smouldering
burning plastic, rubber or painted material not only creates an unpleasant smell but also produces a range of poisonous compounds.
Health Problems: Just opposite the place is a maternity center, and this causes detrimental health effects. Smoke may cause problems for asthmatics, bronchitis sufferers, people with heart conditions and children.
Stress: it causes annoyance to residents who hope to sleep peacefully after a day hard work but can’t because the air is not clean.
Finally, In environmental law, the polluter pays principle is enacted to make the party responsible for producing pollution responsible for paying for the damage done to the natural environment. In this situation, I smell corruption somewhere and this requires thorough investigation.
1. If the waste to be removed is burnt at the site, what happens to the budget provided for transportation of waste to its destination?
2. Are there no supervisors who monitor the operations of this Polluter pay as you dump sites? And this person has not noticed that the soil is now black from consistent burning?
Zoomlion is responsible for this air pollution in the adenta aviation area. In their bid to do big things, they have neglected the small and simple things which matter most. The residents will be grateful that this stops so that their peace and health will be guaranteed.
