Spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Management Committee, Dino Melaye, has said Nigerians can not afford to gamble with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC again.

He stated that Nigerians must severe ties with the APC in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

The Federal Government has warned the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against ignoring the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) order to call off its industrial action.

Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, stated that the union is misleading Nigerians with its claim of filing an appeal against the order.

He called on the union to respect the court and return to work, while negotiations are concluded on the remaining issues in contention.

The minister spoke on Sunday in a statement signed by Olajide Oshundun, deputy director, press and public relations, ministry of labour and employment.

“The union is dishonest and misleading its members and the general public, that it has filed an appeal as well as a stay of execution of the order of NICN on September 2, though it has none of this,” he said.

“Rather, ASUU only filed an application for a permission to appeal the order. It also attached to the application, a proposed notice of appeal which it intends to file if the leave to appeal is granted.

“The application for a stay of execution as of this moment has not even been listed for hearing. Where then is ASUU coming from?

“It is therefore contemptuous, dishonest and misleading for the union to tell its members that it has not only appealed the interlocutory injunction by the NICN, directing it to call off strike and return to work but that it also has a stay of execution.”

The Court of Appeal, Abuja, has ordered members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resume work immediately.

This order was given by the appellate Court, ruling on an application by ASUU seeking permission for it to appeal against the order of the National Industrial Court (NIC) that asked the striking lecturers to resume duty.

The Court also granted ASUU conditional leave to appeal the order of the Industrial Court while insisting that ASUU must obey the lower Court’s order with effect from today, October 7.

Not less than 120 representatives of Pan Yoruba groups, community-based and civil society associations have finalised arrangements to meet in Lagos this week in order to agree on choice of presidential candidate that would best serve Southwest interest, among other issues.

This is coming on the heels of last week’s purported endorsement of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, by the leadership of two socio-cultural groups, Afenifere and Ohanaeze.

The groups, scheduled to meet on Thursday, consists of 120 groups under the aegis of All Yoruba Democratic Movements (AYDM). President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, called on Nigerians not to abandon security duties for law enforcement agencies alone, else, security challenges would worsen.

Buhari asked Nigerians to be vigilant and maintain sense of duty towards security of their environment, insisting that his administration would tame widespread insecurity before the end of this year.

The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Saturday denied a claim that it has endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, Tuesday, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari warned the government team involved in the negotiation with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, against signing an agreement that government would be unable to implement.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has said that the Federal Government has done all it can to end the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

He said this to reporters at an ongoing meeting with Pro-Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Abuja.

As of the time of filing this report, the meeting has gone into a closed-door session with the minister expected to brief reporters at the end of the meeting.

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic party in Akwa Ibom State, Mr James Iniama, has described the Federal Government’s handling of the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities as insensitive.

He said whatever reason the Federal Government had for not resolving the impasse between it and ASUU for more than five months was irrelevant and unacceptable.

Iniama, who contested the governorship position of the state but lost in the primary, said this while fielding questions from newsmen in his residence on Wednesday.

He said ” It’s very very unfortunate. The problem I have is, if you are my friend – my real friend – and we have a disagreement, most likely two of us will not be telling people the actual reason we disagreed.

“So, for the dispute between ASUU and the FG of Nigeria, I don’t think we have heard the truth yet on the issue but whatever, it is irrelevant, and for me, the Federal Government is insensitive.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has said no fewer than 25,000 people have been reported missing in Nigeria.

The organisation said out of the figure, 14,000 were children whose whereabouts remained unknown.

In a statement to mark the International Day of the Disappeared, in Abuja on Monday, ICRC’s Head of Delegation to Nigeria, Yann Bonzon, stated that the documented cases of missing persons were on the rise.

The Federal Government has tasked Governors to increase the numbers of health workers in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) for adequate primary healthcare services.

They noted that some PHCs lacked human resources and infrastructure which have affected operations of healthcare services in the country.

Speaking in Ibadan during his inspection visit to some PHCs in Oyo State, the Executive Director/CEO, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib maintained that adequate human resources become necessary to have well trained and respectful personnel to attend to people at various health centers, adding that government is working with governors, commissioners and traditional rulers to ensure affordable and adequate healthcare services for Nigerians.

He noted that Federal Government has renovated over 4,000 PHCs in the last four years of President Buhari’s administration.

As the federal government and leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) meet today, the union has expressed the hope of calling off the strike if the government meets its demands.


ASUU president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this when he appeared as a guest on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Osodeke said the issues of IPPIS and UTAS had been put to rest and insisted that the government has the capacity to meet the union’s demands.

Nigeria’s electoral body, INEC, has reacted to the allegation of its reluctance to issue a return certificate to Ademola Adeleke, the elected governor of Osun state.

Popular musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, made the accusation on his Twitter account on Tuesday.

The Federal Government yesterday accused the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of unilaterally fixing the salaries of lecturers.

It also said there was no Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between parties yet.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, stated these in a statement by the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations in the Ministry, Olajide Oshundun.

The minister accused ASUU of fixing its salaries and allowances through the Nimi Briggs Committee to the exclusion of the statutory government ministries and agencies that manage finances.

According to him, the committee’s proposal of 109 -185 per cent wage increase would cost N560billion in salaries alone, up from N412billion.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige of misinforming President Muhammadu Buhari on its ongoing strike.

ASUU said Buhari would not have made his Monday ”Enough is enough” comment on the strike if he had been briefed on the outcomes of negotiation by the Ministry of Education.

The union said it was not aware of the sum circulating in the public as the amount needed to resolve the strike, which began on February 14.

Worried by the continuous strike by university teachers, aggrieved students, parents and stakeholders have called for the sack of the education minister, Adamu Adamu, saying his tenure is the worst so far in the history of the nation’s tertiary education.

They queried Adamu’s role in the negotiation process since the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) commenced on February 14 and insisted that the education minister has been insensitive to the plight of university students who have been at the receiving end over the years.
