The Oba is saying that.
The prince Ekalederan(Oduduwa ) was exiled from Beni and found him self in Ife. Later became a thing in Ife. The father (the then Ogiso) now has died and the tradition say the crown prince is the next inline unless he is not alive. But the Ascension was halted because the rites couldn't pass since the crown prince was still alive.

In consultation they looked for Oduduwa which turns out he can no longer leave Ife. Instead he sent his first son Oramiyan.

At this point the thrown was still called Ogiso but after Oramiyan became ruler he renamed it to Oba.

He was making so much changes and soon has issues with the people and chiefs. He could not rule them because he does not understand their culture hence he left back to Ife . And used a derogatory word (Ibinu) to describe why he couldn't rule them. The name Benin was eventually derived from Ibinu.

This is also inline with how Yoruba got their name (Yoruba) which is also another derogatory term and later the name Yoruba was derived from the word Yoruba.

Before he left, he had a son with one palace chief daughter who he married as it's required to have a wife before coronation. That son eventually grew up and became the first Oba.

According to record if you count, history will tell you that the kingdom had within 20 Ogiso before the (Oduduwa/ Oramiyan) phase.
