Though it looks stupidly simple, the online classifieds market is a tough and expensive one and players like Naspers-backed OLX have had to part with millions of dollars to gain the mass they have. However, new players are launching every other month. Nigeria’s Cheapy.com.ng, a free online classified platform has publicly launched to the public to connect buyers and sellers locally. According to Philip Okugbe CEO and founder of Cheapy.com.ng,”Cheapy allows people to post or find jobs, buy, sell, swap or rent goods and services for absolutely no cost. Therefore, it contributes to the improvement of local life of Nigerians.” The site now has categories ranging from Real estate to Cars and Vehicles, Books & Magazines, Health, Pets & Animals, Fashion & Beauty, Computers, Electronics, Furniture & Home, Housing, Jobs, Phones & Tablets, Services among others which are also available on major classifieds platform in Nigeria. Okugbe didn’t tell us Cheapy’s USLs but he says the site is useful and one can easily post or search for an item unlike on bigger sites. Cheapy’s target is the entire country with a population of over 170 million people with nearly half of them online either via mobile phone or desktop. “We understand bigger sites are something extremely hard to compete with but we feel like this site is something Nigerians could really find useful,” says Okugbe.
