The Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu on Saturday in Kano revealed the identity of the stowaway that climbed the Azman Airline at Murtala Mohammed International Airport as Nigerien-born Usman Adamu.

According to him, FAAN has launched thorough to investigation which warranted the suspension of four staff, with a view to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the security breach, adding that, “With regards to the identified suspect, investigation is ongoing to ascertain his intent, be it criminal or not and his mental/psychological state.”

Briefing Reporters at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in reaction to the incident, Yadudu said, “the suspect, identified as Usman Adamu suspectedly of Nigerien origin, and who claimed to be residing at No 1 Araromi Street , Iyana Ipaja on the 19th July, 2019 was reported to have appeared at the domestic end of the taxi way and attempted to gain access to the aircraft, while it was taxing to the holding point.”

According to him, “the pilot alerted the Air traffic control and the message was intercepted by the Aviation Security control monitoring centre who mobilized the patrol teams to the incident. He was apprehended, detained and is currently with the Airport Police Command, as our investigation progresses.”

The FAAN, Managing Director, however, admitted that, “the FAAN authority considers this incident a serious security breach and an Airside incursion. This is unfortunate and most embarrassing bearing in mind the huge effort and resources dedicated to the maintenance of the integrity of Airside and Airport safety.

“We do understand that the security wheel is ever revolving with new and emerging threats daily and we have been working with all our stakeholders and the regulatory agency (NCAA) in addressing our living security challenges.”

The FAAN boss recalled that the same suspect had been arrested before in the same airport, pointing out that, “the patrol security team He added that, “his profile pictures were taken and he was subsequently evacuated out of the Airport to a very far location in accordance with our standard procedure. We are now reviewing this procedure in the light of this incident.”

Yadudu noted that, “at the conclusion of this investigation, all officers who are found negligent in the discharge of their assigned duties shall be held fully accountable.”

He, however, Yadudu said FAAN assures the travelling public that security measures would be scaled up at the airports across the country so as to forestall future occurrence.

An exhausted female tiger took a well-deserved nap inside a family home, after escaping heavy flooding that had destroyed its wildlife park home.

She desperately fled the Kaziranga National Park in north-eastern India, as floods took hold.

At least 92 animals from the park have died in recent days, so when she rushed into a family home and flopped on to a bed to sleep, she was left alone.

Home owner Motilal and his family spotted the tiger at around 7.30am and quickly raced outside.


The animal got comfy on a bed, resting its head on a pillow and slept for most of the day.

According to the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), the animal was first spotted next to a road on Thursday morning, just 200 metres away from the national park.

It is thought she was scared of the traffic and sought refuge in the quiet home.

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN ) said Friday it has commenced investigations into circumstances surrounding how an intruder climbed an AZMAN Air aircraft waiting for air traffic control clearance to take off at the Lagos Airport.

Its General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu disclosed this in a statement.

She said the pilot of the AZMAN Air aircraft marked with registration number 5N – HAI departing Lagos for Port Harcourt reported the incident.

The statement reads :” At about 1009 hours, aviation security officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria arrested an intruder who was sighted trying to climb into an Azman aircraft waiting for clearance from Air Traffic Controllers.

“The pilot of the Azman aircraft with registration number 5N-HAI departing Lagos to Port Harcourt reported the incident and Avsec officials swiftly responded. The man has been apprehended and is now in Avsec’s custody.

“The aircraft taxied back to the apron for a thourough check and has departed for Port Harcourt afterwards.

” The Authority is already investigating the incident.”
The development, has , however sparked outrage at the airport on the security lapses around the airside.
Many passengers blamed porous security for the infraction, which they said has exposed the underbelly of security at the airport.

Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Joseph Ari on Thursday said the number of unemployed Nigerians rose from 17.6 to 20.9 million between the last quarter of 2017 and the third quarter of last year.

Ari who spoke at a news briefing in Abuja, said the unemployment record was sourced from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Ari said: “Despite the fact that the number of people in employment increased from 68.4 million in the third quarter of 2015 to 68.72 million in the third quarter of 2016 to 69.09 million in the third quarter of 2017 and 69.53 million in the third quarter of 2018.

“The statistics are scary and staggering and should not only be a source of worry for any administration that is as committed to the welfare of Nigerians as the administration of President Muhammedu Buhari but indeed all patriotic Nigerians.

“This administration has made tremendous efforts to create jobs as could be seen in the increase in the number of people employed as cited by the NBS report.

“There are countless reasons for us to worry as government, as institutions vested with the arduous task of equipping Nigerians with life skills for employability and entrepreneurship we will do all we can, there is no doubt that unemployment has wrought a terrible damage on all facets of our national life.

“No reasonable analysis will divorce unemployment from the needless incidence of violence that has claimed thousands of lives across the nation. It will equally be difficult to separate rising criminality and harmful social vices that are being perpetrated by Nigerians because of unemployment and the attendant poverty. Consequently our population that should be a resource has become an albatross because we cannot provide a greater proportion of our population with a source of livelihood.

“ITF outlined 11 implementable programmes for 2019 which are: National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP); Women Skills Empowerment Programme (WOSEP); air-conditioning and refrigerator (training on wheels); design and garment making; training on wheels for Nigerian youths under passion to profession programme; skills training and empowerment programme for the physically challenge (Step C); aquaculture fish farming; manure production; crop production and greenhouse technology; poultry farming and training programme development on international marketing and test running.”

The Anambra State Police Command on Thursday, arrested a female armed robber and her accomplice, who have been terrorising Abatete community with robberies and other heinous crimes.

Parading the suspects, spokesperson of the command, Haruna Mohammed, said that on Thursday, following intelligence report, Police detectives attached to Eziowelle Division in conjunction with Abatete vigilante group arrested duo namely, 


(1) Ifeoma Joy Ugegbe alias "Sabath" 'f aged 20 years and,
(2) Ifeanyi Chinweze alias "cheplat" 'm' aged 19 years both from Oranto Ukpo in Dunukofia LGA of Anambra State. 


Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one cut -to -size single barrel gun loaded with a cartridge.


The case is under investigation after which the suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.

President Buhari said on Thursday that he is delighted at the International Religious Freedom Award conferred on Imam Abubakar Abdullahi of Nigeria by the U.S. Department of State.

Members of ‘Omo Kesari’, a gang in the Isheri area of Lagos State, attacked residents of Ikotun and Igando areas of Lagos on Wednesday night, leaving many injured as they robbed residents and motorists.

The group has been terrorizing residents of Pipeline, Isheri, Idimu, Council, Carwash, Ikotun, and Igando areas of Lagos for a while.

Residents of these communities told SaharaReporters that they had been living in fear for a long time.

They called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to intervene in the situation.

The Omo Kesari group, which comprises teenagers, are known for perpetrating crime in traffic where they destroy people’s cars, steal phones and maim people.

A resident who spoke with SaharaReporters on the condition of anonymity said, “I don’t know much, but all I know is that there are some teenagers who rob people with axes, cutlasses, and knives.

“They are always many of them on bikes, and they operate mostly at night around 9 pm and 11 pm, and early in the morning, around 4 am and 6 am. I have heard of many (attacks) that happened a few weeks back around Carwash, Idimu and Isheri axis.

“Of recent, they’ve been attacking people in the area. For at least three weeks now, I’ve been hearing news of them attacking people and robbing them of their mobile phones."

Another resident, who does not want his name mentioned, said his father was wounded and almost got robbed on July 15, 2019, around Pipeline in Isheri area of Lagos.

He said, “They attacked my dad between the hours of 5 am and 6 am on Monday, they cut him with axe and cutlass on the chest, his left arm, and on his head while they tried to rob him of his mobile phone. The three guys who were on a bike attacked him from behind with an axe but we’re glad he managed to escape.

“The bandits are teenagers around the ages of 14 and 18, and their leader whose name is Kesari would be around ages 18 and 20. They are known as “Omo Kesari”, and people also call them “One Million Boys”.

“When they attack people, they don’t ask for money. They’ll only collect your phone and ask you if the SIM card in the phone is registered with your bank account, and if the SIM card is registered with your bank, they would take the phone and transfer all the money in your account,” another resident told SaharaReporters.

Another resident said, “Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) are now in the area. The Isheri monarch has also warned everyone to stay indoors from 7 pm.”

Lagosians have called on the state government to find a quick solution to the menace as they no longer feel safe walking on the streets of Lagos.
