Spice Cottage an Indian restaurant, in the village of Westbourne, West Sussex, uploaded a video on Facebook with the caption "New year, new mood". Diners can be seen tucking into meals as waiters attend to customers in the clip, which ends with a round of applause for the staff. Lucy Watson commented: "How old is the footage? My late husband and his son are on the first shot and he died in 2014??" A reply from the restaurant said: "Hi Lucy, sorry to hear this. This footage was recorded last week" Watson wasn't having any of it though, and accused them of lying, to which the restaurant explained that the video showed new refurbishments, proof that it was recently filmed. So what really happened? Read full story here https://www.cleblog.ng/2023/01/shock-as-woman-sees-her-late-husband-in-advert-video.html |

Hi Welcome to my Blog, in this post we will be looking at career in the Technology Industry and the recent layoffs. You will find out what the layoffs says about the world economy and what to do and expect if you're a student, job seeker, former employee or looking to acquire a skill in the Tech field. Contents 1. What's is a Layoffs? 2. Most Recent Layoffs 3. What does the recent Layoffs shows about the World Economy? 4. Technology Industry and World Economy Outlook 5. Surviving as a Job Seeker in the Technology Industry Labour Market. 6. How Will Artificial Intelligence Affect the Availability Of Jobs 1. What is a Layoff? A layoff is the temporary or permanent termination of employment by an employer for reasons unrelated to the employee's performance. Employees may be laid off when companies aim to cut costs, due to a decline in demand for their products or services, seasonal closure, or during an economic downturn. In the US when laid off, employees lose all wages and company benefits but qualify for unemployment insurance or compensation. A layoff is different from being fired or sacked for reasons like unacceptable workplace behavior, which generally does not qualify the fired worker for unemployment insurance in some countries like US. This could damage the economies of the surrounding communities, especially those dependent on a single employer or industry. 2. Layoffs on the Technology Industry In Recent Times More than 46,000 workers in U.S.-based tech companies have been laid off in mass job cuts so far in 2023, according to a Crunchbase News tally, and the year is just getting started. That number includes Microsoft’s 10,000-person cut and Google parent Alphabet’s 12,000-person layoff announcements this last week. Last year, more than 107,000 jobs were slashed from public and private tech companies as they were forced to confront rising inflation and a tumultuous stock market. The economy has come to reckon with a culture of overzealous hiring and soaring valuations, and startups are now forced to carry themselves through a frosty market as venture funding becomes barren. Tech companies as big as Qualtrics, Carta and Verily have reduced jobs this year, citing overhiring during periods of rapid growth. Below is an embedded list from Crunchbase 3. What does the recent Layoffs shows about the World Economy? It shows there's a possible slowdown in the economy. In the case of an economic downturn demand peaks and starts to decline, the excessive supply of goods and services that aren't consumed can lead to a recession, with companies producing less and downsizing while people lose purchasing power and consumption continues to fall. Companies lay off workers to survive an economic downturn until sales will reliably grow again, and tech companies are always among the first to lose value and respond with layoffs. 4. Technology Industry and World Economy Outlook Source: Deloitte Economic headwinds seem to be gathering for business in general, and for the technology industry specifically. But there are many regulatory incentives that may spur innovation and growth in 2023 and beyond. To survive and thrive, technology companies should rededicate their efforts to improving supply operations, modernizing infrastructure, and leveraging growth opportunities. Beleaguered by softening consumer spending, lower product demand, and falling market capitalizations, tech companies’ C-suites are feeling the urgency to increase margins and grow revenues. Beyond workforce adjustments, approaches may include making business processes more efficient, relying more heavily on intelligent automation, modernizing legacy architectures, and considering strategic mergers and acquisitions (M&A). On a hunt for new revenue opportunities, the tech sector is extending its reach into other industries, using digital advancements to support innovation and transformation. Tech companies are also seeking to improve efficiency and spur innovation in other areas that are ripe for transformation, including real estate, manufacturing, and retail Climate change and social impacts are having an increasing effect on the operations of tech companies. At the same time, governments and shareholders around the world are pushing companies to increase transparency around environmental footprints and tax payments. New and proposed regulations are expected to require updates to business management software tools, enabling companies to achieve real-time visibility and to grant authorities access to data. 5. Surviving as a Job Hunter in the Technology Industry Labour Market. Whether you're a student, job seeker or a former employee, here's what you need to boost your chances of being hired:- Invest in skill development “For example, we have seen large investments in artificial intelligence and machine learning, so skills like SQL, Python, and AWS are all top in-demand skills in software and IT with meaningful growth since 2015.” said Pooja Chhabria, LinkedIn’s career expert. Pooja Chhabria, LinkedIn’s career expert. Make Proper Use Of Time LinkedIn [data] shows you’re four times more likely to be hired for a position if you apply in the first 10 minutes, so set up job alerts to notify you as soon as a job that fits your criteria is posted, and apply as soon as possible,” she added. Networking “Start by reaching out to your network … [that] can be the first step to opening the door to connections and conversations with your current contacts, who might be able to offer advice, support, or make introductions that can help you get hired.” 6. What is the impact of artificial intelligence on jobs? There are two sides to this coin: Robots and AI will take some jobs away from humans — but they will also create new ones. Since 2000, robots and automation systems have slowly phased out many manufacturing jobs — 1.7 million of them. On the flip side, it's predicted that AI will create 97 million new jobs by 2025.
