you saying they were unable to string passes is what I didn't agree with, but I'm going to have to back down now because I could not get my hands on the game statistics. The fixture wasn't even recorded on Livescore. We would have gotten more clarity by seeing the game stats.

Immediately I saw how Congo started playing us, I flashed back to our final against ivory coast. There is a certain unique way they play, and Congo plays in similar fashion. These people have more control of the ball than Nigerians, regardless of whether they are foreign or local players.

Senegal have also their unique play style, in fact a lot more other African countries do. They develop some sort of football identity because of this, just as how the Brazilians have a football identity.

This thing I don't know if it is the genes, mentality or maybe something else, but it is quite evident.

I'm sure the Kenyans have one too, just the way they are unique in marathon races with their long limbs. The Kenyans in athletics is a perfect illustration for what I'm trying to point out.

The Moroccans and Algerians also, even the South Africans. When you watch them play, you can almost always attach a specific and very noticeable play pattern to them. And I believe this pattern transcends across generations. I'm sure the way the Ivorians played many years back, is the same way they also play now. With flair, precision, decisiveness.

So I'm leaning more towards culture and genetics. Because both local and foreign bred players adopt same style.

Some nations will bully you with their speed, some will bully you and score loads of goals with their height, some will outmanoeuvre you with their skills and flair, e.t.c. But what is our own strength as west Africans, and how can we use it to our advantage in our coming games?

Why don't we park bus as well against these teams and stop conceding? My rantings are not fueled by my assessment of this friendly alone, but of our previous games too. This is a tournament we are going into and the team has to be critiqued wherever they are failing.

When we meet a more compact team, it will be a replay of Ivory coast again, and even more recently the game with Congo.
