You should've told them to forget the code in your number and get the code from the other correct number they had. You should be wary of people like that, before they mistakenly send you fake credit alert.
Why couldn't they honestly ask before using the number, they'll leave you to suffer the consequence when your number is blacklisted.

Lol bro, I didn't send them the code o. I asked them how I'm supposed to operate my own offerup account if they use my phone number for verification. Some people are just too funny and without conscience, they've used this my number to verify fivver, offerup, paypal etc without even asking me first but I just pretend like I didn't see the code.
