With what APGA did in Imo State and other states during primaries, APGA won't survive after 2019 |
Imo APGA primaries, worst than military coup – Ojukwu Hon. Chukwuma Ojukwu, 2019 House of Representatives candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency has described the primaries of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo State as a total nightmare and aberration to internal party democracy. Speaking to our reporter over the Telephone on Tuesday, the former APGA chieftain and aspirant berated the roles of the entire leadership of the party while accusing them of compromising on the party guidelines for the conduct of the said party exercise in the state. According to him, the entire primaries lacked transparency, human face and were impunity personified adding that with what happened in the primaries, the Igbo have little or no hope of achieving their collective desire in the country. He further said that the party leadership by their action has betrayed the confidence of the people adding that the party will suffer greatly going into the 2019 general election if they do not retrace their steps. “What happened in APGA primaries in my constituency and Imo state in general is worse than any military coup you can ever think of. In several of APGA meetings and gatherings, aspirants were assured of a level playing ground in the primaries. Little did we know that the party had a different game plan. “It all started with the House of Representatives primaries where candidates like me who have been in APGA for more than 8 years on getting to the primary venue at about 2pm was told on the entrance to the hall that I was screened out for not obtaining a waiver meant for new members of less than 18 months in the party. “This screening that took place two weeks before the said primaries and there was a party guideline with provision for publication of screening results and room for appeal in cases where an aspirant is not satisfied with the result of the screening. “All these impunity and more was committed by APGA in order to pave way for their preferred candidate God knows for what reason. It did not end on that. “The primaries which never took place were reported as were conducted on a free and fair condition. The INEC denied to have ever had any official invitation to supervise this said primaries. “All of us were in APGA with the spirit of Onyeaghalanwaneya as an Igbo Party. With what happened recently in APGA, am beginning to imagine what our so longed Igbo sovereignty will look like. “If a party with only one state that had chances of winning more South Eastern state placed their personal interest above party interest, I wonder what other common factor that can unite an Igbo man with his brother. “Am calling on relevant government agencies including our various court of jurisdiction not to condone such impunity which is not healthy for our dear democracy. “If such is allowed to prevail, am sure our democracy will be all about anarchy and disorder. This will serve as a deterrent to enemies of free and fair process who will always go about the democratic process through the back door.
