It is anti-theft lock, immediately you connect it to the internet it will pop up.
It will still be in good condition as long as it is removed,computrace can be a bit difficult to remove but it can be done.

I removed one on Lenovo T480s some day's ago, different brand with different level of difficultly.

If they can't refund your money, why not give you another. laptop instead?

Let me make this short, I was bitten by a scopion and it was hell on earth. Don't know how it found its way into the sitting room,I step on it ND bang, thought it was an ant until I looked again,a small scopion, immediately I picked a broom and sent it to it grave while I was still in pain.
