However, their comments sparked an angry backlash – with the trolls dismissed as “sick”.

Newcastle supporters also added to the tasteless jibes, with Ryan Lobb writing on Sunday afternoon: “Shame it wasn’t Mike Ashley’s helicopter the fat c***.”

And Anthony Prince said on Sunday evening: “Why bad things always happen to good people?
