Politics › Biafra: Rep Calls For Dialogue by collinometricx(op): 6:51pm On Sep 18, 2017
Member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives Hon. Daniel Reyenieju, has called for dialogue in the country as the secessionist agenda continues to gain momentum in the South-Eastern part of the country.
Reyenieju, in a chat with Vanguard
yesterday expressed utter disgust over what he described as undue predatory role the Federal government displayed by the use of force at the expense of dialogue, stressing that contemporary experience has shown that the use of force has hardly achieved lasting peace in any crises situation.
According to the lawmaker, the fact that after over forty-seven years of the end of Nigeria’s civil war by the then secessionist effort led by late Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Ikemba of Nnewi, the demand for the independent Peoples Republic of Biafra remains fresh; This is an indicative of the fact that the proximate causes for the current phase of secessionist efforts are indeed very fundamental and grave.
Hon. Daniel Reyenieju
“ we can no longer afford to cherry pick on the issues as the present grave foreboding typified in the carnage recently witnessed in the South East, should attract honest interrogation and in-depth analysis, with all efforts directed towards the same goal in proffering a holistic remediation.
“The general trend of development in most countries has been from diversity to unity, from separation to union. So it has been in America, Australia, China, India, Italy, Germany France, United Kingdom and elsewhere in all of which small independent communities became confederated by war or diplomacy, until the exigencies of economics, education and security united the people in a closer, fraternal body- politics.
“The endemic injustice in our body-politics, particularly in the allocation of resources, positions, projects, etc. remains most provocative, unacceptable and inciting to some sections of the country, such that the Nigerian state, as presently constituted is viewed as ridiculously skewed to favour people from a particular region from which victims must strive to liberate themselves.
“For example, the Itsekiri ethnic nation in the Warri Federal Constituency which is the second indigenous ethnic group in terms of oil production/bearing, which resources accounts for the case of a Federated Nation has continued to be alienated and oppressed by the current government, such that there is hardly any person, for instance of Itsekiri extraction that has been appointed into any Federal position.
“The whole of the Warri Federal Constituency which I represent in the National Assembly can only boast of about two kilometers Federal road within the whole land mass of the constituency. It is such injustice among others that is generating the current crises manifesting in the unceasing wave of secessionist agitation’’, the lawmaker said.
According to him, the country is at the threshold of self- destruction and rabid immolation, which could be an illwind that will blow no moss to no one; and this, can only be avoided if a thorough restructuring is embarked upon immediately.
He blamed the endemic crises foisted on the structural instability of Nigeria on the lopsided nature of a Federal arrangement where the center has become so docile and sleazy yet so powerful, over-bloated and over-bearing; including the unthinkable and wicked denial of some of the constituent units of the Federation the rights to control their natural resources.
“The Federal government and its agencies should show good faith in the spirit of reconciliation and equity and use the current approval of over seven thousand job recruitment in Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to douse all separatists, secessionists and marginalization fears by equitably sharing the job placement to the 774 local government area in the country and by my mathematics each local government should have a minimum of seven persons each”, he added.

Detective Musa: “Was that woman lying in any way?” he asked, bringing his face close to Yvonne’s. Yvonne just shook her head, but the look in the detective’s eyes told her that shaking the head was not enough.
Yvonne: “No, she was not lying” she replied, sealing her fate.
Detective Musa: “So you agree that, you had an ulterior motive?” he asked, with a hard stare
Yvonne: “I did not say that, don’t you dare twist my word!” she yelled, jumping out of the chair. The two sergeants with the detective held her on each side and pushed her down to the chair.
Detective Musa: “You think we are playing here? He asked, “Just wait, when I hand you over to my boys, you will know we mean business” he concluded.
Just then, the door opened and one of her father’s lawyers walked into the interrogation, with Yvonne’s father on his heels.
Prince Ngegwu: “This interrogation is over and I assure you detective that, you will lose your badge before this day is over” he said agitated. Yvonne just watched him, with angry eyes. For a moment, she forgot the trouble she was in, and concentrated on hating the father who had abandoned her all her life. It had taken a police case to bring him home, even though it was her birthday.
Detective Musa: “Who said so? Your money and power has no binding on this office. I say when the interrogation is over” he barked with anger.
Detective Musa had crawled from a life of poverty and diseases in a village, north of the country. So, he disliked anybody of affluence.
Yvonne’s lawyer: “But the law however, is binding here. The Miss has been granted bail, so this interrogation is over and never try to interrogate her again, without the presence of her lawyer, or else we would sue this division” said the smart looking lawyer from Berkeley and Berkett law firm, in a calm and cold voice that carried authority.
The detective gave him the stink eye, for he hated lawyers as much as he hated wealthy people. He felt they wielded power too much because they knew the nook and cranny of the law, and could twist it to suit them.
Detective Musa: “Where is the bail bond?” he demanded. The lawyer flung the paper at him, and detective Musa had to bend to pick it up. It was a position he didn’t like, and he felt insulted. He nodded at his subordinates and they released Yvonne.
On their way home, she sat at the back with her father, while the lawyer sat beside the driver. She turned her face to the window, refusing to acknowledge her father.
Prince Ngegwu: “Would you at least, be grateful, you were going to rot there till the day of trial, if I had not moved mountains for you” he quipped, and Yvonne could detect a note of distaste in his voice.
Yvonne: “Thank you” she replied curtly, but her father was having none of that.
Prince Ngegwu: “What the hell is wrong with you? I have given you everything, even that which you do not deserve and what did you do in appreciation? You go ahead and rub my name in the mud! A name you do not even deserve” he thundered. This just opened the can of worms which Yvonne had done her best to keep a tight lid on.
Yvonne: “Oh really, now you are doing me favors. Who asked you for all that?” she yelled back, facing her father squarely, “All my life I have done everything I could to deserve your love, even when you are my father, why do I have to beg for your love? You shower me with gifts that I do not need, but the one thing I have needed, you have kept away from me” she said, her voice lowering to barely a whisper, and her eyes shimmery with unshed tears.
Prince Ngegwu: “I am not your father!” he exclaimed, and it was like cold water was poured on Yvonne. She stared at her father, with questions racing in her mind, but her lips being unable to form the words.
Question: What is the meaning of what Yvonne’s father said, is he saying the truth or is it a result of anger?

(Episode 11) The Bonny Island Massacre

Mira sat in her house with fear, her doors were locked tight and even when her neighbor came to knock, she refused to open. Any sound she heard, took her to the window, where she would peek at the surrounding of her apartment to ascertain if there were any strange faces around. She had seen Yvonne being led away to prison, on television. Then her phone began to ring, it was a number she did not recognize, so she didn’t pick up. She wouldn’t have picked, even if it was a number she knew. Mira was that scared.
The news was all over the country and even in the International news. They were tagging it ‘The Bonny Island Massacre’. It was so named because, the Ngegwu mansion which was the scene of the massacre, was located in Bonny Island. Some mischievously called it ‘The Black Birthday’. Mira watched all these with a passive face, except for the occasional peeking out the window, one would think she was unaffected by the event.
By noon, the names of the twenty (20) dead people had been released to the public. Among the twenty people, there was Daisy of Daisy Advertising, Danlattu, a top notch member of AFC and his running mate in the forth coming presidential elections. People were beginning to form their opinions about the massacre. Some said that it was political, seeing as the only politicians at the party who ate the cake were from the ruling party. Even though Yvonne was not a politician, she used her father’s clout and got favors from those in the corridors of power, and because, her father was a strong member of the opposition party, NPC, it was concluded that she had been used to assassinate two top notch politicians who were rumored to win the ticket in the party to run in the forth coming election as President and Vice-President.
Making issues worse, were the pictures that Yvonne was sure Daisy had orchestrated, to be posted on the Internet, while she was alive. It was the picture of Yvonne in deep conversation with Raji Lawal, and the public had concluded that Raji had given her the contract to assassinate the two politicians from AFC. This was like heating the embers, as politicians from both parties were seen having interviews, discussing the Bonny Island massacre. The politicians from AFC were sure that the Bonny Island massacre was political and aimed at destroying the chances of AFC at the polls. The politicians on the other side of the fence were sure they had better chances at the poll, seeing as the AFC led government had plunged the masses into penury, therefore they didn’t need to resort to such measures.
Raji Lawal was invited by the Police for questioning where he denied giving any contract to Yvonne, and told the police that their meeting was a friendly one, and there was nothing political to it. However, as he was stepping out of the Police station, the agency responsible for security of State, NSS, picked him up.
The media did not disappoint. Every television station political talk show was centered around, whether Yvonne was contracted to assassinate the two politicians from AFC or not. Political experts were invited to deliberate on the issue; all but one believed that the massacre at Bonny Island was political. The man, who didn’t believe it was political, said that perhaps Yvonne was having a mental breakdown. But nobody ever doubted that Yvonne was responsible for poisoning the cake.
While this was ongoing, Yvonne was being drilled by detective Musa and two of his assistants, they wanted her to tell them, why she poisoned the cake. They played a recording for her to listen to, it was a recording of an interrogation. Prior to arresting her, the night before, they had arrested the owner of the event planning outfit that was in charge of the birthday party, and questioned her all through the night. She had confessed that, she and her team were in charge of the food and drink, but for the cake, she told the detective that Yvonne had insisted on making the cake herself.
When the detective asked if they had handled any event for her before, she replied in the affirmative, and when he asked if Yvonne had made such request before, she said no. The detective thought for a while and told the woman to leave, but not to leave the state.
So it was the recording of the investigation they played to Yvonne’s hearing. Even listening to the woman who handled all her events, Yvonne already felt guilty.

Politics › Igbo Group Writes Buhari , Says Biafra Secret Service Behind Assassination , by collinometricx(op): 4:47pm On Sep 14, 2017
By Eric Patrick ,
A South East Revival Group, SRG, has accused the Biafra Secret Service , BSS , of unlawful activities in the region .
The group claimed BSS , is responsible for the “ assassinations of kinsmen opposed to their fluid and dubious idea of a Biafran state .”
The group maintained that BSS , which is a militant arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra , IPOB , is “ infested with all manner of hardened criminals and deviants ” aimed at carrying out their devious activities.
SRG maintained that BSS members are the “ masterminds of kidnappings/abductions for ransom ; armed robbery; extortion of hapless people at gunpoint and other sundry acts of lawlessness and crimes against the state in Southeastern Nigeria . ”
The group made the claim in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari , on the detestable security threats of IPOB to the South East .
The letter signed by its National Co -Ordinator, Comrade Charles Mbani, reads in part , “ Your Excellency Sir , the Southeast Revival Group ( SRG) seizes this unique opportunity to formally welcome you , Mr . President , back to Nigeria from your medical vacation in London. As patriotic citizens of this great country , we owe you a religious and moral duty to continue to beseech Almighty God in prayers to ceaselessly grant you good health and long life to continue to pilot the affairs of our long -suffering nation to prosperity .
“ We have no hesitation electing upon ourselves as representatives of our people at the lower rung of leadership , the worthwhile obligation of loudly proclaiming your sterling leadership qualities. Within two years in the life - span of your administration, you have rapidly pushed Nigeria unto the path of economic recovery and prosperity, tackled Boko Haram terrorism and other burgeoning internal insurgencies. Your undaunted anti -corruption campaigns have begun to instill sanity in public governance .
“ Your Excellency Sir , however , we wish to draw your attention to a nagging insecurity problem currently threatening the coherence of the Southeast region, with the potential to continue to dubiously snatch away the economic fortunes of the region; cause socio - political dislocation and spark insecurity crisis of regional and national dimension.
“ We hasten to confess that the despicable agitations presently mounted by secession groups or separatist movements, domiciled in the Southeast region , in the guise of self- determination has metamorphosed into criminal gangsterism.
“ Your Excellency Sir , you are aware of the senseless , criminal , unlawful and treasonable operation of a quasi - sovereignty or a state and a government within the sovereignty of Nigeria by IPOB’s informal declaration of a “ Republic of Biafra ” .
IPOB did not pause at this point, but proceeded to the stage of the gradual formation of the organs of government of the so - called republic , inclusive of the “ Biafra Secret Service ” , ( BSS ). By its conception , design and intendment , BSS is the militant arm of IPOB, infested with all manner of hardened criminals and deviants. The national security agencies must have intimated you with the other forms of aberrations of IPOB in this direction .
“ But our investigations into the activities of BSS have sadly revealed the stark reality that the unregistered and illegal “ security ” organization is an assemblage of hitherto scattered IPOB’s marksmen in isolated criminal gangs, who are now fused to congregate under a single umbrella .
The organization has been empowered by IPOB to launch the subsisting, pervasive and consistently dreadful and alarming threats to security in the Southeast region as currently experienced .
“ We are perturbed and indeed , overwhelmed by the persistent violent aggressions and coercive exploits of IPOB, through its arms and militant wing , the BSS .
We suspect strongly that since BSS is peopled by outlaws , they are responsible for the spate of assassinations of kinsmen opposed to their fluid and dubious idea of a Biafran state ; its members are the masterminds of kidnappings/abductions for ransom; armed robbery; extortion of hapless people at gunpoint and other sundry acts of lawlessness and crimes against the state in Southeastern Nigeria .
“ Your Excellency Sir , we have cause to worry over these developments in our nation. This is because reliable information at our disposal suggests that the proceeds from the unlawful operations of the BSS in crimes around the Southeast region is one of the prime sources of the funding of IPOB to execute its foreign - backed agenda of destabilization of Nigeria , manifest in the palpable awesome insecurity, chaos and anarchy in the region.
“ And in the last few months , it has been observed that IPOB has assumed the monopoly of violence and crimes in the Southeast region . It is also recruiting left - overs of criminal elements in the region into its fold, who are assured about the veiled cover of BSS to hide and audaciously commit heinous crimes against the people , undetected and un- policed , masked with the garments of secessionists struggles in public appeal.
“ The heightened crimes and insecurity in the Southeast presently is heavily nourished by these antecedents of IPOB , which may not abate soon , unless the Federal Government of Nigeria take decisive actions against IPOB and its criminal affiliates to secure lives and property in the region .
“ Even now , the Southeast region is under siege by these criminal elements , as everything which gives legitimacy to life and existence or dignity is fast crumbling or has already crumbled because of fear of attacks , resulting in death , largely due to the activities of IPOB.
The vibrancy of businesses or economic and civic life in the region is on its historic lull, as evident in the frequent sit - at - home orders issued by IPOB leader , which compliance is enforced by members of BSS through intimidation , coercion and brute force .
“ And at such instances, resistance by any person most often leads to his untimely death in the hands of IPOB members, much as looting spree goes on unhindered . These have inflicted enough agony and pains on us and it is getting to intolerable limits of endurance .
“ But before we end our submissions, may we briefly expand on BSS , the militant wing of IPOB. The recruitment of jobless agile Nigerian youths into the so- called Secret Service of the Biafran “ security ” organization attracts some fee or outright extortion of money from interested persons .
It explains the zeal and mindless quest to recoup spent funds through the wild criminality . IPOB leader has already publicized his intention to prevent voters from performing their legitimate civic duty by participating in the forthcoming governorship elections in Anambra state . It plots to draft the ragtag army of the BSS to frustrate and actualize this threat by hook or by crook.
“ Generally therefore Sir , we perceive these acts and dispositions of IPOB as threats from criminal elements against Nigeria ’s democracy and the nation- state . And to further fortify their actions and garner public sympathy, IPOB has set up an elaborate media campaign team to blackmail the Federal Government and its security agencies in discharging its onerous lawful responsibilities to the people of Nigeria by protecting lives and property.
We fear that failure to checkmate this illegality, the trend may be replicated in other parts of the country, as the next general elections in 2019 approaches .
“ We therefore plead with Mr . President never to abandon the Southeast region to these criminal elements who have activated their media infrastructure to blackmail the Nigerian military from carrying out its Constitutionally lawful duties as stipulated by the directives of the Presidency .
Although, the cost of security operations of this nature is enormous , but we appeal for the extension of the exercise of “ Operation Python Dance II ” by a month more, to enable the military embark on thorough cleansing of the land of gangs.
“ Please accept our appreciation for your listening ears and kind understanding, Sir . ”

Politics › See How The Nigerian Military Comes Up With Code Names For War by collinometricx(op): 4:28pm On Sep 14, 2017
The first military code name I ever knew was Operation Desert Storm.
That was the code name of the US military operation to remove Iraqi forces in Kuwait in 1991.
The prequel to Operation Desert Storm was Operation Desert Shield. Yes, the American military has a way of coming up with code names.
It’s not just the Yankee military that has dope names for its operations. It’s a worldwide thing including the Nigerian military.
Operation Python Dance 2 is the latest code name of the Nigerian military’s initiative in the South-Eastern part of the country.
I don’t know about you but Operation Python Dance 2 sounds very cool. A name like this, as well as Desert Storm, made me wonder how the military comes up with code names for operations.
The use of code names in war is not new. According to military historians, it started in World War I (1914-1918). It really became a trend during World War II.
It has been reported that the initial code name for the invasion of Nazi forces into Russia was called ‘Operation Fritz’. Adolf Hitler reportedly didn’t like that name because it didn’t strike fear into the hearts of the enemies.
Hitler changed the invasion to Operation Barbarossa named after the Frederick I Barbarossa who was the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
The great British Prime Minister Winston Churchill laid down the unofficial rules for coming up with code names which are still followed till today.
These are its rules:-
1) The code name should not reveal the intent of the operation. A name like Operation Kill Shekau is a stupid code name for an operation. It is too direct and it tells everyone including the enemies the objective of the operation.
2) The code name should be memorable and striking. No soldier wants to die in Operation Small Chops or something silly like that. Operation Rolling Thunder or Operation Black Sky are more memorable names.
3) Names from Roman and Greek mythology are excellent to use for code names.
As America became the leading world power post World War 2, it had to come up with names for its military operations that were PR friendly and could whip up public sentiment.
Operation Inherent Resolve was the name of the US military campaign in Iraq and Syria. The name was a flop. The public didn’t care for it, the media hated and it wasn’t PR friendly.
The name Operation Python Dance is a good example of a code name. It’s vague about its intent and it is memorable. It also whips up public sentiments whether good or bad.
From the name of the operation, you can guess that the Nigerian military tends to move slowly and mysteriously till it strikes it target with its fangs.
