Even first world countries are no longer finding it appealing, they would lose revenue from non-refundable visa fees tho, maybe not so significant but I am sure that also contributes to the VO's pay check, embassy operations, security e.t.c.
I actually checked to see what's the estimated number from the 75 nations, and it's like 46% of US visa applications(around 300k applications). Let's assume the average applications cost $340, you're looking at a revenue stream of around 100mil usd. For a nation that has close to 5 trillion yearly budget, trust me they've done their calculations and feasibility studies.

The war in Venezuela and the current easy flow of oil was both a security and economic move by Trump.

The US doesn't mind filling that gap with Asians who we both know are taken in a higher caste than us.

I wish as citizens, we can read the world this way and start getting competitive industrial wise so we command respect in such negotiations.

The USA might be out of reach for a lot of people trying to move legally
The whole western world is becoming selective. Truth be told, they stand nothing to lose if all the 75 countries currently blocked are denied entry into the US.

Trump made a statement earlier this year "Why can't we have people from Norway, Sweden, Denmark". The "far right " as the media tend to refer to conservatives all over the west these days are leaning towards selective migration. That's what made them have their kind of society today.

So yeah, many third world citizens will however not find the US appealing anytime soon

The next administration is going to be headed by either Vance or Rubio. Fully an extention of Trump. Brilliant from the USA

May God bless you @ TWoods. I can't fathom why someone will just lost all hope in the reformation or emancipation of his country of origin from bad leaders and keep praising the Western countries who are 200 years older than Nigeria .

Yet these nagative propagandist keep giving birth to children 😀 When you say Nigeria can never be good are you not indirectly cursing your children or the unborn children ?

Let us adopt the slogan of " God Bless Nigeria .
Every square market day, you people complain about "bad leaders." Last time i checked, it is Nigerian individuals you encounter at government offices, airport staff, or polling unit officials. The average Nigerian can be desperately wicked and mischievous, which is ultimately reflected in the leadership. You all continue to blame the leaders as though they are aliens.

There is a reason why, out of all the Black nations on Earth, none are developed, nor perhaps, ever will be. You continue to play the blame game as if nations like China, India, Singapore, and Korea have not also faced colonization in their history.

Even in 2026, you are still blaming the leadership. Africa, and Nigeria in particular, has a fundamental cultural problem rooted in insincerity, mischief, and moral decadence, which is evidenced by the series of fraud and criminal cases in the West.

Thankfully, only a few members of the Black race fall outside of this shameful cultural circle. Unfortunately, because it is difficult to initially distinguish between individuals, the downfall of Western society is being accelerated by the influx of our people and those from similar cultural backgrounds in the Middle East, such as Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq. This is evidenced by the fact that almost every slum and ghetto is populated by these demographics, a truth we refuse to tell ourselves.

So please, stop the blame game and start realizing that the Black race, as a whole, simply cannot run a society. Oh, and do not worry about my children as they are not from around here. It reveals a lot about your character that you would bring children into this discussion which only solidifies my point about culture.

Aren't we tired of these silly excuses? Shanghai was a dump in 1991; today, no African country comes close to its worst neighborhood.
That's why anyone that thinks Nigeria will be "great" a century from now is just having late night orgsam thoughts. You need to look at the young and youthful generation to know the future of a nation. Thoughts like his tells you all you need to know.

I really want the west to keep succeeding, because if they fail, the world will just turn to a shithole because no other civilization will give the freedom the world enjoys today. I wish all western nations can have a Trump

There’s 75 countries on the ban list, and are all black and brown nations. I’m not a Tinubu supporter, he’s incompetent but you can’t put this on him. Trump is just racist, he want only white immigrants in America.
Amen. It shouldn’t have taken this long. I blame Tinubu and APC
If i was white, I'll also ban or enforce strict and tough immigration measures for black and middle Eastern people.

All getto places in the west today, from Europe to America and Australia are majorly caused by these ethnicities. You might not like what Trump is doing, but j wish black people will have envy for their nations like this.

We can see how UK is crumbling already and turning into a ducking third world. So say what you may about Trump, but thr west needs to use an iron fist on black and middle eatern citizens or else the whole world will be a third world dump because we have shown we can build anything

Ghana was on the list in June or July and was removed from the ban by September. That's how productive government negotiations with the US can be. Turkmenistan also got their non-immigrant visa ban lifted within months of diplomatic talks. Nigeria is apparently addressing US security concerns. US troops and drones are in Nigeria now. So I STRONGLY believe Nigeria will be removed from the ban by June this year.
With the recent massacre in Jos, the war in Iran solidifying trumps claim to tighter borders and BAT's growing moves to appease regions for 2027 moves, it's obvious Nigeria is not getting off that list this year.

Nigeria has no benefits to the USA in any regard whatsoever, and POTUS has three years with no reelection, so he has nothing to lose.

Correction: Immigrant Visa not visa (see below posts from the twitter account of the DoS). @Efetobore1980 is right that I should have posted this (not on B1/B2) but on the immigrant (EB or family) visa thread.

Presidential Proclamation 10998 is still in effect and bans issuance of F1 visas (and other non-immigrant visas) to Nigerian students and others. see attached.

Note: Comprehension is one key issue here. This statement Visa applicants who are subject to Presidential Proclamation 10998 may still submit visa applications and schedule interviews, but they may be ineligible for visa issuance or admission to the United States is enough to clarify to you as a student who must have written GRE or GMAT or IELTS or TOEFL and learnt comprehension that you can apply, but F1 visa WILL NOT be issued. The proclamation is very clear on when exceptions can apply.

I will advice that you don't waste resources exploring the US for now as a potential student. That route is closed to Nigerians. Even those inside are unsure of their OPT issuance. Coming to the US as a Nigerian student (without another unbanned citizenship or PR status) is ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE because of 10998.

To @Efetobore1980, I trust you are doing great. I appreciate your continued support for students to keep applying to the US despite the obvious bans in place. Could you please sincerely advise why you think any student will be issued F1 when the 10998 Presidential Proclamation is still in effect? How did you come to the conclusion that the inclusion of Nigeria among nations to pay for visa bond signifies that the US is open to issuing visas to genuine people? Do you have any anecdotal evidence to justify this (I do not claim that this equates empirical evidence but your personal experience may help clarify your continued insistence)? It will be unfair to stick to this adverse advice knowing full well that these things cost time, money and effort and will fail. If they have no fall back options what then happens to their timelines/progression? I think we should keep an open mind here and advise strongly for potential students to diversify their options. The US is great but is closed to us for now, our thinking or feeling cannot reverse this.
That bot called Efetobore1980 will still disregard this and comment that he/she has facts and proof that interviews are still going on and people can disregard the current proclamation 😂. The adamant nature is just outright hilarious.

I remember when Nigeria was banned in 2020. This too shall pass for prospective aspirants

Efetobore1980:
Stop using different accounts to comment on this forum.. Were you the initial poster ? Were you the elementary pupil who posted that Phd is fully funded in all countries of the world in order to lure applicants into European Universities where they would be stranded half way after spending millions of Naira ?

You should always post the truth. Tell Nairalanders that there is language barrier in most of the countries you listed. Also tell them that funds for Phd majorly comes from external grants and majority of the donors or givers (ie companies , financial institutions etc) focus the more in American (U.S/Canada) markets.

Go and advertise your European Phd fundings in the right section. Stop spamming the U.S F1 visa thread with unrealistic and sugar-coated advertisement.

This particular thread is bless with intelligentsia, therefore , your antics to deceive people will always be exposed.
First, no one is “luring” anyone into Europe. In STEM fields, especially engineering, computer science, and applied sciences, many European PhDs (Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia) are employment-based, not speculative . In Germany for instance, PhD candidates are typically hired under TV-L E13 contracts, earning €3,000– 4700+ gross monthly, with health insurance, pension, and full employee protections. That is not marketing, it is public pay scale data.

Second, the idea that PhD funding “majorly comes from external donors focused on the U.S./Canada” is not accurate for STEM. In Europe, a large portion of PhD funding comes from universities, public research institutes, and government-backed research councils (e.g., DFG, NWO, SNSF), not ad-hoc private donors. These positions are advertised as jobs, not promises.

On language, yes, daily life may require local language, but in STEM PhDs, the working language is overwhelmingly English, especially in Germany, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia. This is a known and documented reality in technical research environments.

Finally, acknowledging alternatives to the U.S. system is not “spamming” or anti-USA. The U.S. remains excellent for research scale and industry pipelines. But it is also factual that most U.S. PhDs are stipend-based, and only top-tier programs (Ivy League / Ivy-adjacent) financially approach what standard employment-based European PhDs offer.

This thread is indeed read by informed people which is exactly why accurate, balanced comparisons matter more than emotional policing of who is allowed to mention non-U.S. pathways especially now that there's a ban on Nigerians.

So please, pretend to be atleast smart, even though you sound like a tout that is capable of gaming the system, evident by your cult like nature of the USA. The hope is that the ban is lifted soon, but while at it, learn to stop being an attack dog.

Funded by the sane minds on this forum 😀.

Mind you, if it is not U.S.A, it cannot be like U.S.A. At least we have seen hundreds of U.S Universities Phd Form-I 20 with partial or full fundings, as well as Msc Form I - 20 with Work-study or Graduate assistantship. Ask the poster to show the public any full funding admission letter from those aforementioned countries.

Every U.S bound international students on this forum should disregard the shady list and focus on America. Even, as Standard as the UK and Canada educational standard is, they still cannot meet up with the United States Educational scholarships and funding opportunities.
It's so distasteful how you're so ignorant and adamant to the core that you can't just accept when you're wrong. Are you jobless? It's becoming horrible anytime you comment honestly. Can't you just shut up
