creation of new tertiary institutions across the country.

According to the Minister of Education, the decision aims to consolidate and strengthen existing institutions, ensuring they are adequately funded, staffed, and equipped before expanding further.

This move comes amid concerns over the proliferation of underfunded universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, which often struggle with poor infrastructure, insufficient lecturers, and declining academic standards.

The government noted that the focus for the next seven years will be on improving quality, upgrading facilities, and enhancing the overall learning environment in existing schools rather than creating new ones.

President Bola Tinubu presided over the meeting whereby the policy was approved And Should Be Taken Seriously.

EducationBig Win For Students As WAEC Pass Rate In English, Maths Jumps To 62.9% by Comfypearl080(op): 4:20pm On Aug 09, 2025

revision and upgrade of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for School Candidates. This decision comes after the Council discovered errors in the grading system that had affected candidates’ original scores.

Following the correction, the national performance rate has seen a significant boost, particularly in key subjects such as English Language and Mathematics. The new figures place the national average pass rate at 62.9%, marking a remarkable improvement from the initial release.

The first release of the results had caused widespread panic and frustration among students, educators, parents, and even policymakers. Many questioned the credibility of the system, especially as some students who had excelled in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations found themselves denied admission due to unexpectedly low WAEC grades.

Addressing the press, WAEC’s Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, offered a heartfelt apology:

“Once again, the management of the West African Examinations Council pleads with all stakeholders to pardon us at this moment. This is very difficult for us to say, but we have to admit that it is very embarrassing. We acknowledge the emotional ordeal that candidates, parents, teachers, school administrators, Ministries of Education, the media, and other well-meaning stakeholders must have had to deal with. This is a trying time for us at WAEC; we are doing everything we can to ensure that such a dismal situation does not recur.”

WAEC has also reiterated its commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and credibility in all its operations moving forward. The Council revealed that it is now putting in place stronger safeguards and quality-control measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in future examination cycles.

In a remarkable show of appreciation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate employment of 200 top-performing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members into the federal civil service. The honorees, who served between 2020 and 2023, were recognized for their excellence, dedication, and contributions during their service year.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the NYSC Honours Award Ceremony held in Abuja. Representing the President at the event was Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

As part of the recognition, each awardee will also receive a ₦250,000 cash prize, along with scholarships to pursue postgraduate studies in any Nigerian university.

In a compassionate move, the President also approved automatic employment for 10 physically challenged ex-corps members, who either sustained injuries or became disabled while serving the nation. Tinubu praised their resilience and sacrifice, assuring them they would not be forgotten.

“All awardees, including the physically challenged, will receive scholarships to pursue postgraduate studies in any Nigerian university,” the President said.

The President hailed the awardees for being true symbols of patriotism, integrity, and hard work. He described them as the kind of young people that represent the bright future of Nigeria. He further directed the Head of Civil Service and the Federal Civil Service Commission to immediately kick off the employment process.

According to him, the administration’s policies continue to prioritize education, youth empowerment, tech advancement, and skill development as part of a long-term national growth strategy.

“Youth are at the heart of our national development strategy,” Tinubu said, urging them to stay hopeful and never give in to efforts aimed at dividing the country.

Among the 200 recognized corps members were:

Male Category:

Nunaya Polycarp (2020 Batch B, served in Kwara)

Okpogbo Alvin Chinedu (2021 Batch A, served in Cross River)

Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark (2023 Batch B, served in Cross River)

Rabiu Quadri Mayokun (2023 Batch C, served in Rivers)

Female Category:

Akase Pati Ence Nguwasen (2021 Batch A, served in Gombe)

Igwe Anne Chikaodi (2023 Batch C, served in Sokoto).

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended the President for his unwavering support for youth. He pointed to the recent increase in NYSC monthly allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, saying it was a practical move to ease economic hardship on corps members.

“This isn’t just politics; it shows real appreciation for the sacrifices and value of Nigerian youth,” he noted.

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director-General of NYSC, praised the government’s continued backing of the scheme. He described corps members as the “backbone of national development,” highlighting their impact across healthcare, voter education, ICT, and rural outreach programs.

“In 2025 alone, over 6,300 medical corps members, including 2,300 doctors, provided free healthcare to over 4 million Nigerians,” Nafiu said.

He also mentioned the skills acquisition programs, which now train over 250,000 corps members yearly in tech and market-driven skills. He paid tribute to four corps members who died in active service, calling them heroes of national unity.

Closing his speech, Nafiu encouraged the honorees to become lifelong ambassadors of peace and national development:

“You may no longer wear khaki, but you now wear something greater the confidence of a nation.”

CelebritiesEl-rufai Sounds Alarm: APC Victory In 2027 Could Push Nigeria To The Brink by Comfypearl080(op): 7:12am On Aug 04, 2025
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a stark warning about Nigeria’s future, saying the country may collapse if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) retains power beyond 2027.

Speaking at a grassroots mobilisation event for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto, El-Rufai labeled the APC as “incompetent and dangerous”, and said the stakes in the next presidential election couldn’t be higher.

“We may not have a country if the APC continues beyond 2027,” he declared. “This is a fight for our lives.”

El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, left the party in March 2025 after his ministerial nomination was rejected by the National Assembly over alleged security concerns. He briefly joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before being expelled and banned for 30 years over alleged document forgery.

Now aligned with the ADC, El-Rufai has taken an active role in rallying support.
