PoliticsRe: DLA: New Party Unveils Ideological Agenda, Targets Economic Reform, Security by ComradeMfamAsu1: 6:52am On Mar 27
The Party is dead on arrival.

However, Obi China now have an opportunity to be given a ticket.

Abel7777:
A new political party, the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), has announced its entry into Nigeria’s political space, outlining an agenda focused on economic reform, national security, and governance driven by ideology.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Samuel M. Memeh, and National Publicity Secretary, Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., the party said its formation was in response to Nigeria’s “systemic failure, economic stagnation, and insecurity.”

The party said it is founded on the principles of Pan-Africanism, ethical leadership, scientific advancement, and people-centred governance, which it intends to translate into policy actions.

The DLA said it would pursue a transition from a consumption-based economy to one driven by production, innovation, and industrialisation.

It listed its priorities to include support for local manufacturing, investment in technology and research, and the promotion of youth-led enterprises.

According to the party, Nigeria’s development depends on building systems that enable citizens to create wealth and expand economic opportunities.

The party expressed concern over insecurity affecting farming communities, including the destruction of farmlands and displacement of farmers.

It proposed legislative and policy measures to address the situation, including regulation of cattle movement and the adoption of ranching systems.

The DLA said such measures are necessary to protect farmers, ensure food security, and stabilise the economy.

The party called on Nigerians to support its platform, describing its emergence as part of a broader effort to rebuild the country through collective responsibility.

It said membership is open to individuals who align with its vision and urged citizens to engage with its policies and programmes.

The announcement comes as political activities begin to gather pace ahead of the next election cycle, with new and existing parties seeking to mobilise support.

quote author=obembet post=138588135]Some governors in Nigeria have performed exceptionally well in the past three years and truly deserve re-election.

Many people believe campaigns today are filled with propaganda and empty promises.
However, a few governors have focused more on delivering results than making noise. These are leaders who have kept their promises and shown visible impact in their states.

Putting aside sentiment, tribe, or political party, which current governors have genuinely earned a second term without even needing to campaign?

RENOVATION OF THE STATE LIBRARY AND PURCHASE OF AIRCRAFT: CROSS RIVERIANS DESERVE THE TRUTH

In recent months, troubling claims have continued to circulate regarding the funding and ownership of key public assets in Cross River State; particularly the Cross River State Library Complex and the two newly-acquired aircrafts said to be part of the CallyAir fleet.

A few months ago, I found myself in a heated exchange with senior party officials over the controversial acquisition of the two CallyAir aircrafts. These highly-placed individuals insisted with absolute certainty that Mr. Oden Ewa, the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, had personally funded the purchase of the aircrafts.

The pattern did not stop there.

Not too long ago, a prominent and affluent Cross Riverian applied to use the State Library Complex for a private event. To his shock, he was asked to pay ₦1 million, reportedly on the grounds that the Commissioner had “used his pocket money” to renovate the State Library and therefore had authority to determine usage fees.

This development raises deeply unsettling questions thus:

1. Is a serving Commissioner now the de facto owner of government property?

2. Is Mr. Oden Ewa acting as Commissioner or as Chairman of the Library Board?

At what point did public property become subject to the personal discretion of an individual political appointee?

Even more alarming are circulating claims which must be clarified by government that the State Library Complex has, in effect, been handed over to Mr. Ewa, despite his widely-reported financial scandal involving the defunct Diamond Bank, in which he allegedly obtained over ₦208 million through forged documents.

Such an arrangement, if true, violates every principle of transparency and public accountability.

The Cross River State Government must immediately explain:

1. When was the public advertisement for renovation contracts issued?

2. What procurement process selected Mr. Ewa, a sitting Commissioner as financier or contractor?

3. Who approved the payment of ₦1 million for the private use of a public library?

4. Under what legal framework does a Commissioner claim personal ownership of aircrafts purchased during his tenure?

Furthermore, respected elder statesman, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla previously stated that the two aircrafts were funded through Local Government resources. This directly contradicts the narrative that they were acquired with personal funds.

This inconsistency demands urgent clarifications.

Cross Riverians cannot remain in the dark while a senior government official assumes ownership, directly or indirectly of public assets renovated and maintained with taxpayers money.

The public deserves full disclosure, backed by documents and official statements.

At this critical juncture, the Cross River State Government owes the people one simple thing:"THE TRUTH".

Agreed

naptu2:
Well, there's nothing wrong with naming the University of Maiduguri after Buhari, but if it were me, there are 3 things that I would have named after him.

1) The Second Niger Bridge: So many governments have promised to build it (Shagari, Obasanjo and Jonathan for example) and failed, it should be named after him to acknowledge the fact that he actually built it.

2) Katsina Train Station:

The Kano-Maradi rail line had been proposed by previous governments, but it was his government that actually started construction. Buhari was also from Katsina State and it would be perfect if the Katsina Train Station is named after him.

3) The NDDC Headquarters building in Port-Harcourt:

The land was acquired in 1996 (when the agency was known as OMPADEC), but nothing was built on it. The agency continued to operate from rented quarters. In fact, rather than connect the old headquarters to the national grid, they kept buying diesel for its generators. It was Buhari's government that built the new headquarters and he commissioned it in 2021 (25 years after the land was bought), so it should be named after him.

Without being emotional, what is good is good and cannot be described otherwise.

The People's Senator is indeed an asset to Cross River State in general and not just the Central Senatorial District that he represents.

Gjrich:
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has made a strong appeal to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria. Obi emphasized that such a move would promote national equity, fairness, and unity as the country prepares for its next general election as reported by Daily Trust.

Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State, during the second annual colloquium held in honour of the late academic and political figure, Associate Professor Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, Obi addressed a gathering of political stakeholders, academics, and civil society leaders. He expressed concern over what he described as the ongoing imbalance in Nigeria’s political leadership structure, stressing the importance of rotating power between the North and South to maintain national harmony.

“Nigeria can only move forward if every part of the country feels included and is given a fair chance to lead,” Obi stated. “Zoning the 2027 presidency to the South will help heal divisions and strengthen our unity.”

Obi's remarks come amid reports of growing opposition coalitions under the ADC umbrella, involving major political figures such as Atiku Abubakar and David Mark. This evolving alliance is said to be positioning itself as a strong alternative to the ruling party in the next election cycle.

The former Anambra State governor urged political leaders to adopt principles of justice and regional inclusion in building alliances. “Why not let the South complete its tenure?” Obi asked. “After that, our northern brothers can take their turn. This is how we foster peace, stability, and mutual respect.”

Obi's call adds to the ongoing national discourse on power rotation, with many seeing it as a vital step toward ensuring inclusivity and mitigating regional tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Afritalestv:
The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has filed an appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ruled the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as excessive and unconstitutional.

The court, in its July 4th ruling by Justice Binta Nyako, maintained that although the Senate holds disciplinary powers, the six-month suspension denied the people of Kogi Central effective representation.

However, Senator Akpabio, in a Notice of Cross-Appeal lodged at the Court of Appeal, argued that the lower court erred in law by assuming jurisdiction in a matter it had no constitutional authority to entertain. He contended that the Federal High Court lacks the jurisdiction to determine disputes relating to internal legislative matters as provided in Section 251 of the Nigerian Constitution.

Akpabio further submitted that Senator Natasha’s suit was premature, as the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions had not concluded its investigation or submitted its report to the Senate at the time she filed the case. Therefore, he said, the cause of action had not fully matured for litigation, making the suit incompetent.

In addition, Akpabio insisted that the court violated legislative privileges by entertaining a case founded on words spoken during a Senate plenary session. He cited Section 1 of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, which protects lawmakers from civil or criminal proceedings over their utterances or actions in the chamber.

The appeal also faulted the lower court for raising and determining issues, such as the excessiveness of the suspension, on its own without any request or relief to that effect from Senator Natasha. Akpabio maintained that such a decision violated the principle of fair hearing and amounted to judicial overreach.

The Senate President further argued that the court granted reliefs not sought by the plaintiff when it recommended that the Senate should recall Senator Natasha to continue her legislative duties. According to the Senate President, this was an unlawful overstep of judicial boundaries.

Akpabio is now seeking to have the decision of the Federal High Court set aside, insisting that the lower court occasioned a gross miscarriage of justice by interfering with legislative procedures and exceeding its constitutional limits.
