Phones / Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G Review: As Good As The Competition by Creativeosas: 10:08am On Sep 25, 2022
The 5G smartphone market space is getting fierce with each passing day. Almost every major smartphone brand that operates globally now has a phone in this range. Such phones pack both useful features and a few gimmicks to lure customers.

The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G is the ideal specimen belonging to the aforementioned category. Check out our full review of the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G to understand the real-world capabilities of this "Marvel" collaboration.

Design
I have been using the Force Black variant of the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device has a plastic frame and back panel. The display is protected by a 2.5D tempered glass with a small notch at the top and a bit of a chin at the bottom. What I really liked about the phone is that it has a dedicated microSD card slot along with dual nano SIM card slots.

While the textured back panel (except for the camera module) makes the phone fingerprint resistant, the device does look a bit cheap when compared to its rivals. Although most of the phone is fingerprint resistant, the camera module does attract a few fingerprints due to its glossy finish.

The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a stereo speaker setup, and the power button also doubles as a fingerprint sensor. Although it does not look as premium as the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G, the device does not compromise on the practicality aspect.

Display
The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G has a fairly large 6.7-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and with 60Hz refresh rate. While the AMOLED part of the equation is at par with the competition, the lower refresh rate makes the phone feel slow while scrolling through social media platforms.

The display on the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G is pretty vibrant and bright for indoor usage. There is Widevine L1 certification, and I was even able to stream FHD content on Prime Video and Netflix.

I liked the fact that Infinix has used an AMOLED display rather than an IPS panel. Thanks to the properties of OLED, the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G can reproduce punchy colors with a very high contrast ratio. If you are a movie buff, then you will love the display on the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G as it makes the content look vibrant and colorful.

Camera
The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G has a triple camera setup at the back with a 108MP primary camera, a 2MP depth camera, and a 2MP macro lens. Hence, it is equivalent to having just a single camera. There should have been a dedicated ultra-wide angle lens, which most phones of this price range offer. The device does have a 16MP selfie camera at the front with support for HDR mode. The main 108MP camera can record up to 2K resolution videos, while the selfie camera can only shoot up to 1080p videos. The camera app is a bit cluttered, in fact, even the normal mode says AI camera, and there also seems to be some sort of built-in filter that cannot be turned off.
Photos taken from the primary camera mostly come out good, given you don't have shaky hands. There is a bit of a shutter lag, hence, the camera takes a bit more than a second to capture a picture even in daylight conditions. In 108MP mode, the shutter takes another second, again only a pair of steady hands can help you.

If you have time, then you can get some really good pictures out of the 108MP primary camera as you might have to re-shoot to get a perfect picture. As per the selfie camera performance is concerned, I felt that the 16MP sensor captures slightly softer and noisier pictures when compared to the primary camera.

Performance
The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G comes with the Mediatek Dimensity 810 SoC with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The Note 12 Pro 5G is one of the most affordable smartphones with the Mediatek Dimensity 810 SoC, a capable mid-range 5G chipset.

The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G did well on our throttling test. In fact, even after running the CPU throttling app for 15 minutes, the device was capable of sustaining 94 percent of its peak performance. This ensures that the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G is more than capable of handling extended gaming sessions.

In our gaming test the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G did exceptionally well on COD: Mobile. The device just handled the game like a champ and it didn't even get hot. Similarly, on Geekbench 5, the device scored 581 and 1710 points on the single-core and multi-core CPU tests and the device posted 381516 points on the AnTuTu benchmark.

Overall, the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G is a good gaming device, it just delivers pure performance and can even handle heavy titles like COD: Mobile at high graphics settings.

Software And Connectivity
The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G ships with Android 12 OS with custom xOS 10.6 skin on top. If you think phones from Oppo, Vivo, Realme, and Xiaomi have bloatware, then you haven't seen an Infinix smartphone. The device had over 15 pre-installed third-party (nonessential) apps that you cannot remove from the device.

While some of these apps can be disabled, it's just frustrating to see so many third-party apps that most users don't even care about. Again, the xOS 10.6 is heavy skin, which also takes a toll on the overall smoothness of the device, and this could further slow down the phone in the coming days.

When it comes to connectivity, the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G supports a 5G network on both slots with support for 12 5G bands. The device also supports up to 5Ghz Wi-Fi along with Bluetooth 5.0. There is no NFC support here, so do keep a note of that.

Battery Life
The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G comes with a 5,000 mAh sealed battery with support for 33W fast charging, and the fast charger is included in the box. The smartphone can deliver slightly over six hours of screen-on-time, given you don't play the game for more than two hours.

The battery life and the charging speeds of the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G can be considered decent. For most users, the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G should last for an entire day without any issue.

Verdict
Features like stereo speaker setup, AMOLED display, selfie flash, and even the 108MP primary camera make the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G one of the best smartphones that Infinix has ever released so far.

If you can overlook the software experience, then the Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G is a great pick. The Infinix Note 12 Pro 5G is definitely a performance-oriented device, which makes it a great phone for casual gaming and normal day-to-day usage.

Phones / Reasons To Get The Infinix Note 12 Vip by Creativeosas: 7:27am On Aug 25, 2022
Infinix Note 12 VIP review: Experience the convenience of superfast charging

We have had the Infinix Note 12 VIP here at MobilityArena for a few days – enough time to check the most important features. Like you, we were curious about the 120W fast charging and wanted to see how fast it really goes. And we did, alongside other features, to bring you our Infinix Note 12 VIP review.

Infinix Note 12 VIP has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display and 120Hz refresh rate. There is a MediaTek Helio G96 chipset on the inside, along with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage. It has a 16-megapixel selfie camera, and the rear camera is led by a 108-megapixel lens. From the specifications, you already know that this is a mid-range Android smartphone.

The Note 12 VIP has a flat design, with a centred punch hole at the top of the 6.7 inches display. The frame and the back panel are made of plastic, and it is of good quality. Flip the phone over, and you will see a raised island for the rear camera. While the camera lenses are located on the left side, the island itself is spread evenly across the width of the phone. It is a distinctive design, and it has a practical benefit, too – the phone sits firmly and does not wobble when you place it on its back.

The rear panel of the phone is made of plastic, though it almost feels ceramic, and is not slippery, unlike when glass is used. Also, it does not attract fingerprint smudges at all. It is a beautiful and practical back design.

The volume keys and power button are on the right edge, and the power button doubles as a fingerprint reader. I like the side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Your finger is on the Power button many times, and it just feels natural that the unlocking of the screen happens there.

If there is one surprise that the Note 12 VIP delivers, it is the fact that XOS is now different. Very different. XOS 10 now looks exactly like HiOS v8. It appears that the management at Transsion Holdings decided that it was in the best interest of everybody to unify the software experience. It bears XOS and HiOS on Infinix and TECNO smartphones, but it is now the same software, just with different labels.

You will be interested in reading TECNO Spark 8C Review: A budget smartphone with good looks, good performance, and outstanding battery life
And it is a good thing, because I like HiOS v8. Having experienced it in the Camon 18 Premier, my judgement was that it is the best version of HiOS yet. The icons are better, and it generally looks more matured. And that is how I feel about XOS 10, too. Also like, HiOS v8, it still has all the traditional bloatware – the same as in TECNO smartphones. Exactly the same. And why not? It is the same software. There are scores of pre-installed apps. Some can be deleted; some cannot be.

One good thing about the new custom software is that all the pesky notifications can be disabled easily now, as XOS v10 has a notification menu that lets you easily toggle off notifications for apps. XOS has never been better. I cannot say that too much. This is perhaps the first implementation of XOS that I really, really, really, love. It makes for a much better experience. Of course, I can’t wait for Android 13, which has a new feature that requires apps to obtain the user’s consent before throwing up any notifications at all.

The speakers on the Note 12 VIP are loud and produce boxy audio. It is nothing terrible, but we have seen better sounding speakers on mid-range smartphones in this class. As for video, the screen is sharp and has good clarity. In addition, 120Hz refresh rate makes video consumption and gaming in selected apps and titles a more pleasant experience.

6.7 inches diagonally. 120Hz refresh rate. AMOLED. The display is bright and clear and sharp. It is a delight to use. If you are not a fan of the high refresh rate, for any reason, there is an option in the phone settings to switch to regular 60Hz. I did notice that the Adaptive brightness control keeps the screen brightness quite low, no matter how many times we adjusted it up. Being adaptive, hopefully, it will learn our preferred brightness setting over time.

Infinix Note 12 VIP has a 16-megapixel selfie camera. At the back, it has a 108-megapixel main snapper, a 13-megapixel ultrawide snapper, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. We took both for a spin. The rear 108-megapixel camera takes sharp, clear, and bright photos in everyday lighting conditions, indoors, and outdoors. The Super Night Photo Mode does a good job squeezing light out of darkness, too. The selfie camera is okay, but certainly does not impress. Below are sample photos taken with the two cameras, for your viewing pleasure.

The Helio G96 chipset is a decent performer and lived up to expectations here. Coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 3 GB extended RAM, we experienced no issues with the phone in use. Apps opened and switched without pauses. There is 256 GB of internal storage for your videos and photos and other files. If you somehow use up all of that space and need more, there is a microSD slot available, so you can add a memory card for extra storage.

Infinix Note 12 VIP review: Battery Charging And Performance

Infinix Note 12 VIP review: 120W Fast Charging
If we are being honest, the 120W fast charging is the headlining feature of this smartphone. How fast does it go? Infinix says it charges from empty to 100% in 17 minutes. We drained the battery till the phone powered off by itself, and then plugged it in and while running a stop watch. After 5 minutes, the battery was at 35%. When the watch clocked 10 minutes, we had 57% charge. And at 15 minutes, we had 76%. When we hit 17 minutes, the battery was at only 84%, not 100%. It didn’t hit 100% charge until we had clocked 22 minutes and 17 seconds. Here is the 120W charging test video:

So, Infinix’s claim is a little off, but charging a phone from zero to 100% in 22 minutes is an impressive feat, all the same. But after charging up the phone, how does the battery hold up? Excellently. We got solid battery life out of the Note 12 VIP. Even with 120Hz refresh rate active, we got a full day of use out of it, consistently.

What is our conclusion about the Note 12 VIP? This is a solid performing phone that includes the convenience of being able to charge up in one-third of an hour. Even if all you have is 5 minutes to top up the battery, before dashing out, you’d get at least 35% battery charge in that short period. That is fantastic.

Everyone needs to experience the convenience of 120W fast charging, and hopefully, one day, more smartphones will be able to charge this fast. But for now, you have Infinix Note 12 VIP to provide you that convenience. It is available in independent and partner stores around the country for ₦199,000.
