AgricultureHave You Heard About Vertical Farming by cryles(op): 1:47am On May 16, 2015
Vertical farming as a component of urban
agriculture is the practice of cultivating plant life
within a skyscraper greenhouse or on vertically
inclined surfaces. The modern idea of vertical
farming uses techniques similar to glass houses,
where natural sunlight can be augmented with
artificial lighting.
Types
The term "Vertical farming" was coined by Gilbert
Ellis Bailey in 1915 in his book Vertical Farming.
His use of the term differs from the current
meaning - he wrote about farming with a special
interest in soil origin, its nutrient content and the
view of plant life as "vertical" life forms,
specifically relating to root structures
underground. Modern usage refers to
skyscrapers using some degree of natural light.
More coming on vertical farming.
AgricultureFeeding Fast Growing Chickens by cryles(op): 12:57am On May 16, 2015

Chickens
Start your chicks off with chick crumbs for 4 weeks
then gradually change them over to growers pellets.
Don't feed them too much too quickly though. Try to
let the feeder run out for a short while between top-
ups (which I would do twice per day). A good quality
feed is essential and extra vitamins in their water is
also a good idea to help them grow correctly. A weak
solution of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) should also be
added (a rate of 0.5% is about the right dilution). This
should help to keep them healthy. A week before
they are culled, they should be changed over to
finisher pellets.
