PoliticsOpinion: Peter Obi Has Made A Mistake by cule7(op): 12:14pm On Jul 12, 2025
The recent weeks have seen major changes in the political sphere. Bigwigs from different parties align to form a coalition with a view to forcing the incumbent government out of the seat of power come 2027.

Among these politicians is Peter Obi. He's a charismatic leader among his supporters. However, the coalition has some implications. The coming together of Obi and the other political juggernauts who have various corruption scandals hanging over their neck is a dent on Obi's purported integrity. A saying goes if you have 3 foolish friends, you're the 4th, same goes if you have 3 wise friends . Peter Obi staying with Labour Party would have further made him more sacrosanct than he was in 2023. Lying in bed with these corrupt politicians has, to a significant extent, shattered his assumed level of integrity.

The common saying "anything to get Tinubu out of power is welcome" has implications. While there can be no denying that the effects of the "reforms" initiated by this government are terrible, what is the guarantee that, should Peter Obi win, he'll miraculously change the narrative? Will he return oil subsidy and scrap the floating of the naira? If he plans to do this, then, we're in for a long ride.

Let's imagine the unlikely scenario that miraculously, by crook or by hook, by luck or by skill, Peter wins the presidential election and becomes the president, will he be able to withstand the cabal that will miraculously appear? Nasir El Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, Abubakar Malami, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi in a cabal? That's going to be very difficult. Winning an election is one thing, ruling is another. Election by popular majority doesn't translate to more power in the deep political space. It's crazy there. It'll take a very powerful and well-connected man to stand up to this kind of cabal. I don't see Peter Obi as that man.

This writeup is mainly my opinion and does not reflect the general view. Please read objectively.

Thank you.

Mention just one person oga
Ofunaofu:
The usual recycled talking point “disgruntled politicians” as if Tinubu built his entire political career on pure ideals and not backdoor alliances, dirty deals, backstabbing and defections himself.

Let’s not pretend your hero didn’t gather the same “disgruntled” politicians to build his coalition in 2015. Or have we forgotten the exact people that are once called corrupt, having numerous corruption cases with EFCC suddenly became saints the moment they joined APC?

Credibility? You want us to list credible names in the coalition? first, you name 3 people in Tinubu’s current administration including Tinubu himself who are widely seen as credible

The truth is, Nigerians are tired, not just of bad governance, but of this arrogant belief that one man is unmatched and above questioning. No leader is above scrutiny, and no administration should be defended with blind loyalty when the country is clearly suffering.

So instead of clapping for fuel hikes, currency chaos, and growing hunger and insecurity maybe ask yourself: what exactly are you defending? Because from where we’re standing, the “disgruntled” look more united and focused than the people currently running the country into the ground.

This ADC is just an assembly of previous politicians who have failed woefully in their respective positions.

Why are Nigerians this happy? Are we going to pretend that these guys are not one of the reasons why we are where we are today?

The people who defected from their respective parties are just people who fell out of favour with their party's leadership. Nothing more nothing less.

None of these guys really love Nigerians enough to care to this extent. They just want power to loot their share.

PoliticsWhat's This Govt's Stance On Agriculture? by cule7(op): 9:26am On May 28, 2024
Hello everyone.

It's been a while here.

Build up to the 2023 general election, I was an ardent fan of BAT based on the reputation he has but now, while I might not have regretted that fanship, I must say that I've been very disappointed in this one year of BAT's regime.

In the manifesto presented by APC/BAT, there are detailed processes that will be undertaken by the govt if elected but as far as I'm concerned, these processes have not yielded the positive fruits. Infact, life's been more difficult since he came onboard.

I believe that the reason for this failure is not far-fetched. I think he has the poor set of ministers of any administration post-1999. The moment I saw the likes of Matawalle becoming the Minister of State for Defence, then I knew this administration is bound to fail with these set of people. So far, I've not been proved wrong. Only 2 or 3 ministers are actually working per Nigerian standards.

My concern is mainly in the aspects of Agriculture. Last independence day I think, the president made a convincing speech of all the plans ahead and I was more interested in the Agricultural sector. I was expecting so much but for now I don't even know the name of the Minister for Agriculture.

I believe one of the manifestos was ensuring food security but so far I haven't seen any concrete plan on the part of the govt in ensuring food security at all. I might be wrong but if there's any, I will like to know. There's a galloping inflation on the prices of food items in the market and these foodstuffs are produced in the country.

So far, I've not seen any tangible plan in place in ensuring that our already compromised food security won't deteriorate any further.

P.S. No tribal sentiment. Please if you'll respond, do so with an open mind free of sentiments or inclinations.

Thank you.

Foreign AffairsUkraine Conflict Has To End With Diplomacy – US by cule7(op): 5:29am On Jun 17, 2022
Kiev says it won’t back down, encouraged by Washington’s weapons

As high-ranking White House officials argued the conflict in Ukraine has to have a diplomatic solution, media outlets close to US intelligence reported on Thursday of increasing concerns about Kiev’s hard-line position amid the deteriorating situation on the battlefield. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s defense minister vowed to fight until total victory

The US will continue to help Ukraine “to the maximum extent possible,” national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Thursday, “first on the battlefield, and then, ultimately at the negotiating table. We think this has to end with diplomacy.”

Sullivan was speaking at the Center for New American Security (CNAS), a Washington, DC-based lobby group close to the Democratic Party.

Sullivan was speaking at the Center for New American Security (CNAS), a Washington, DC-based lobby group close to the Democratic Party.

CNAS is funded by the likes of Northrop Grumman and Raytheon, which stand to make huge revenues from replenishing American weapons stocks after the conflict. It also received at least $500,000 last year from the US Department of Defence to promote its interests.

It was at CNAS that the Pentagon’s policy chief Colin Kahl revealed earlier this week the US would send Ukraine guided missiles for the HIMARS rocket launchers.

While NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has suggested that Ukraine might have to give up some territory for peace, Sullivan said such a decision was entirely up to Kiev.

“We are not going to be pressing them to make territorial concessions. We think that’s frankly wrong,” he told CNAS.

Sullivan’s comments came after a NBC News report which claimed that some US and European officials were “increasingly concerned that the trajectory of the war in Ukraine is untenable” and were “quietly discussing” asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to “temper his hard-line public position” that no territory will ever be ceded to Russia.

The outlet cited seven current and former US and European officials. The story was co-authored by Ken Dilanian, who is known for links with the CIA. One anonymous US official said Washington was not pressuring Kiev to make concessions, “as some Europeans are,” but was “planning for a long war” instead.

NBC also claimed that US President Joe Biden was “not happy” when Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin talked about “winning” the war in late April, after visiting Kiev, but was reportedly persuaded when they told him their remarks had been misinterpreted by the media.

“They believe that we can win; we believe that they – we can win – they can win if they have the right equipment, the right support,” Austin said at the time, adding the US wanted to “see Russia weakened.”

Though Biden allegedly told both Austin and Blinken to “tone it down,” there is no indication the Pentagon chief has done so. On Wednesday, presiding over the ‘contact group’ for arming Ukraine in Brussels, Austin vowed to “bolster Ukraine's armed forces to help them repel Russian aggression now [and] in the future.”

The Ukrainians have received more weapons than they had asked for, according to General Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs. Kiev had asked for ten battalions of artillery, and got twelve. The US and its allies also supplied Ukraine with more than 97,000 anti-tank systems, “more than there are tanks in the world,” Milley said.

“They asked for 200 tanks; they got 237 tanks,” Milley added. “They asked for 100 infantry fighting vehicles; they got over 300. We’ve delivered, roughly speaking, 1,600 or so air defense systems and about 60,000 air defense rounds.”

Ukrainian Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov told CNN on Thursday that Kiev will “liberate all our territories, all of it, including Crimea,” using the NATO-supplied weapons to first stabilize the front and then launch a counter-offensive. Ukrainian Major-General Dmitry Marchenko said on Wednesday he wanted to use US-supplied weapons to target the Kerch Bridge, connecting Crimea to the Russian mainland.

While Austin’s policy chief and Biden’s former security adviser Kahl claimed the fighting was going well for Kiev, senior Ukrainian officials admitted to losing 1,000 men every day, as the Russian and allied forces continued to advance.

Oilwell:
FUNDAMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS AS GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE (PARTIAL LISTING)

1. Anambra was the first State to commence Sub-Sovereign Wealth savings, the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. At a time many other Governors were leaving huge debts, I left the equivalent of $500 million Dollars in investment as well as local and foreign currency, including $156 million in Dollar-denominated bonds.

2. For the first time in the history of Anambra State, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of notable countries such as United Stated, Britain, Russia, European Union, South Africa, Belgium, Israel, the Netherlands, Canada, among others, visited the State. Before my tenure, Anambra was practically a pariah state blacklisted by the Diplomatic Corps and international development partners.

3. Development partners such as UNDP, UNICEF, the World Bank, DFID, the European Union etc., which hitherto were not in Anambra State started working with the State. Anambra was consistently adjudged one of the best states in development partnership and commitment to reforms for good governance.

4. He was recognised as Best Governor by the Millennium Development Goals Office (OSSAP-MDGs) and the UNDP in the implementation of their programmes in Nigeria.

5. The Nigerian Debt Management Office (DMO) rated Anambra as the least indebted state in Nigeria. In spite of visible and measurable achievements recorded in various sectors, the State under him did not borrow or raise bonds for her various projects.

6. The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria rated Anambra State as the most financially stable state in the country.

7. The State's ground-breaking return of schools to their original owners - Voluntary Agencies (Churches) on 1st January 2009, and subsequent partnership with the Agencies in Education, saw the State move from 24th position out of 36 States to Number One in National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations for three consecutive years. This made the World Bank to commission a study, led by the renowned Prof. Paul Collier of Oxford University, on this revolutionary partnership and phenomenal achievement.

8. The State also entered into strategic partnership with the Churches in the Health sector. This symbiotic relationship resulted in a tremendous boost to health care because of the services offered by health institutions owned by Voluntary Agencies, while the State restored grants to the agencies and made available to them more than 50 million Dollars in various types of support.

10. Through partnership with the Church in the Health sector, his Government funded the transformation of -:

a: Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi;
b: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala;
c: St Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha;
d: Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha; and
e: St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu.
His Government also built the Joseph Nwilo Heart Centre in St. Joseph, Adazi-Nnukwu, where heart operations are now being performed.

11. His Government won the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (1 Million dollars) as the best-performing state in immunisation in the South-East. With complementary funding from our Government, they used the money to build 10 Maternal and Child Care Centres across the State, particularly in rural communities, in partnership with the Churches.

12. The State was the first to procure and distribute more than 30,000 computers to secondary schools, including 22,500 from HP. The Managing Director for Personal Systems Group HP Inc, Mr. FabriceCampoy described the deployment as the biggest of such projects in the Middle-East and Africa.

13. Anambra State Government provided Microsoft Academies to more than 500 secondary schools, which the Head of Microsoft in Nigeria (Mr. Ken Span) described as the biggest such deployment in Africa so far.

14. The State provided Internet access to more than 500 secondary schools, which the CEO of Galaxy Backbone (Mr. Gerald Ilukwe) characterized as incomparable to any in the country.

15. More than 700 buses were provided to secondary schools in the State by our Government.

16. Boreholes were provided in schools all over the State.

17. Numerous classrooms were built in all the 177 communities of the State.

18 As part of the efforts to turn around the economy of the State, a number of companies were attracted to build their facilities in the Anambra State. A case in point is SABMiller, the 2nd largest brewery in the world, which built their first Green Field facility in the State, which is today one of the most successful facilities they operate globally.

19. A number of other companies followed the SABMiller initiative and were all supported and encouraged under our Government; a good example is INNOSON Motor Manufacturing Company, from which our government bought more than 1,000 vehicles.

20. Anambra State for the first time started close collaboration with recognized government security agencies (the Police, Army, Navy, Department of State Security, Civil Defence, among others), offering them various types of support including provision of more than 500 security vehicles. The improvement in security was phenomenal, such that the former IG of Police (Abubakar Mohammed) lauded Anambra State for not witnessing any bank robbery in my last three years in office.

21. To further enhance security, Anambra State provided at least one security vehicle to each of all the 177 communities in the State as well as various organizations such as markets and Churches.

22. His Administration conceived and built, from scratch, the first state-owned Teaching Hospital, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu teaching Hospital, Awka.

23. His Government commenced the planned development of the Igbariam Campus of the ChukwuemekaOdumegwu-Ojukwu University, including the fencing, construction of internal roads, electrification, construction of the Faculty of Law, Auditorium, Administrative Block, Faculty of Agriculture, Management Building, among others).

24. His Government attracted the World Bank support on erosion - National Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) - to Anambra State.

25. His Government was the first to do Poverty Mapping in Nigeria, as a guide for the effective implementation of our poverty-alleviation strategies.

26 His Government, for the first time, undertook the aerial mapping of Awka as well as the production of Structure Plans for Awka Capital Territory, Onitsha and Nnewi.

27. During his tenure and with his Government's support, Anambra State became an oil producing State.

28. He built the first Secretariat Complex to house State Government Ministries that were hitherto scattered around the State.

29. His government commenced the development of the 'Three Arms Zone' comprising Government House/Governor’s Lodge, Legislative Building/Speakers Residence, and Judiciary Building with Chief Judge’s Residence.

30. By the end of his tenure in 2014, more than twelve (12) health institutions, including two hospitals, had secured accreditation; when we took off in 2006, no health institution in Anambra State was duly accredited.

31. Anambra State was the first to undergo national peer review, which scrutinised State Governments for good governance, through the State Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM), an initiative of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum in collaboration with the DFID.

*PRUDENT RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT OF LOCAL ENTERPRISE GROWTH.*

*1*. Peter Obi stated that he supported INNOSON by ordering 1000 Vehicles from his factory. These facts are verified. I expect the social media trolls to learn from Peter Obi and replicate this in abuja and the 36 states in order to grow local production and consumption.

*2.* Peter Obi stated that he reduced his convoy from 22 to 5 vehicles and you cannot buy fuel unless he is in the car". These facts are verified.

*3*. If I sleep in a hotel and have to pay N250k a night, I will be awake all night...feeling like I was robbed". - Peter Obi. verified fact . Tell your governor to stop blowing your state funds in expensive hotels with his aids . Let them learn from Peter Obi.

*4.* "We handed schools back to Churches and by 2013, we were number one in WAEC."- Peter Obi . This is a verified fact . Rather than hate Peter ,put pressure on your governor to improve education in your state and make your public schools habitable and decent to learning. Some of the public schools that Peter Obi helped Missions to fund , produced kids , who went to the US to win global science competitions . Facts .

*5.* Peter Obi stated that he did not allow his wife and children abuse state funds or engage in pay to play as First Lady and Children . These are verified facts. His wife was hardly seen parading the corridors of power . Peter Obi's only daughter is more beautiful and educated than some of those kids of the powers that be who spend tax payers money to attend UN functions. Peter clearly separated/ shielded his office from family meddlesomeness, unlike those who could not keep to their campaign promises to put their wives and children under leash . Peter never alloted anambra lands to himself, his wife, children and inlaws. It is on records. Facts !!! Unlike the Bandits that converted state lands into private estate . Go to Imo and Lagos and see for yourself what land banditry means.

*6.* Peter Obi built infrastructure, attracted conglomerates and new enterprises into his state , paid all outstanding salaries , wages and gratuities as at when due and still saved N75billion in liquid assets and cash . This is verified fact . Pressure your governor to at least pay salaries to poor workers before you come on facebook to run your stinking mouth on Peter Obi.

*7.* Peter Obi paid down up to N35billion of the huge debts he inherited and never borrowed neither did he owe anyone.

Peter Obi did not sell any state owned assets to raise chop money for politicians , rather he added more . Rather than hate Peter Obi pressure your governor or those in Abuja to account for what they did with all the homongous funds they borrowed without any commensurate infrastructure to show for it .

*8* Anambra state is the most poverty free state in Nigeria (not Lagos), under Peter Obi reign. According to national bureau of statistics, Peter Obi maintained that record and won awards from MDG for the sustained growth.

*9*. On several times and occasions, Peter Obis mandate was stolen and truncated. On each occasion , he fought his way to the supreme court to reclaim his mandates . He never threatened anyone with the blood of baboon and monkeys . No one was killed defending or opposing his mandates . As a true democrat , he abided by the rule of law .

*10.* Peter Obi revoked a N400m contract to build a Presidential mansion in Anambra state , when most states profligately wasted funds on such jamboree . He abolished state houses in Abuja and Lagos . He used N150milion that was supposed to buy him two bullet proof vehicles to as deposit to buy 50 Peugeot 406 cars for the executive , and Judiciary . Please instead of hating Peter kindly ask your governor and the Political Bandits you worship to go to him and learn Prudence.

*11*. Peter Obi was presented a budget of N32million for him and some people to attend the World Igbo summit in the US but he threw it out and mandated only one person to attend at a more reduced amount . But under the current FGN one minister took same amount to go to China . Please send these men to Peter to learn common sense in prudence.

*12*. Finally, for some of the poverty minded jesters ,( who assume that every wealthy man is a rogue) and who accused Peter Obi of building a NEXT mall in Abuja as evidence that he looted Anambra state , kindly note that as far back as 1993. Peter Obi was already very wealthy . He learnt entrepreneurship from his mum , who is a well known wealthy woman in Anambta state .

*13.* The Next Group of companies he owns is over three decade old . Peter Obi as far back as 2004 was the highest shareholder and Chairman of Fidelity Bank PLC. He did not borrow money to fund his campaign or buy Party nomination forms. He did not depend on roguish looters to fund his campaign , unlike those in Abuja . He funded his own campaign hence , was able to avoid looters or godfathers stealing anambra money unlike the current jamboree in some states and Abuja.

*14* Peter grew his wealth prudently and did not depend on governments as his source of wealth , hence , he knows the value of Money and how to grow money .

*15*. If you desire to know how the likes of Peter Obi, and other very few development minded political leaders leveraged on their positions of influence to support their enterprises without looting their state FAAC, JAAC and IGR allocations like some of the demented kleptomaniacs we have in our states , I can help you with free tutorials . Not every politician is a mindless looter. There are still few that create wealth for their states and people .

*16*. Note also that Peter Obi did not set up any private SPV and tax consultancy outfit to rip off 20% from every IGR collected in Anambra state , neither did he appoint/ force his daughters and wife into public places to be harassing and slapping innocent and helpless citizens.

*17.* Peter understood the importance of education and knowledge, hence, his constant quest for more . Thus , he attended some of the best schools in the world and supported quality education in his state , unlike the fossils and gerentocrats , who never added one jot of knowledge in years and do not know the importance of education .

*18 .* To a majority of the ignorant and sentimental folks , who are all over the social media to discredit an apt and timely message to us as a people , I leave you with this parting words from Okwute himself ....

*"I beg you to participate more in politics, the society we help them ( the oppressive political class ) abuse today will take its revenge tomorrow"* - Peter Obi

*19*. Peter Obi has offered himself to serve. He is not going to force himself on anyone . 2,000 years after , it is still very glaring that the current generation have not yet learnt their lessons . They will still choose their barabasses over those, who came to save them . Please go ahead to nominate and elect your bandits ... but kindly note, remember and let it be at the back of your minds, that the day the terrorists stopped the Abuja to Kaduna train, they did not ask those they killed and kidnapped if they were Igbos , Yoruba , Hausa , Fulani,Ijaw , Muslim, Christian, Hindu etc, before they gunned them down or abducted them . Whatever you wish Nigeria and support will surely happen to you one way or the other

PoliticsRe: Why Should I Vote For Peter Obi? by cule7(op): 8:26am On Jun 12, 2022
joey150:
Wise and educated voters research about all the candidates presented to them and then choose one that aligns with their values or one they believe in their manifesto.

Prejudiced voters like you do no research, but rather beg for convincing like you're at a car dealership listening to a Mercedes sales man offering a sales pitch.
It would have been sensible if you stopped at your first paragraph.
