FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has responded to Pastor Paul Enenche after the cleric reportedly asked him not to turn the project commissioning event into a political campaign. Speaking during the event, Wike said he had informed Pastor Enenche weeks earlier, at the Idoma Hall of Fame event, that he intended to use the occasion to make certain political points. Wike also argued that even Pastor Enenche speaks about bad governance when preaching in church, insisting that such discussions are also politics. He maintained that commissioning a project should not be reduced to simply thanking God without acknowledging the political issues surrounding governance. Most people know the Dangote Refinery cost billions of dollars to build. But not many people know that getting the land was already a major challenge. According to Aliko Dangote, he initially planned to build the refinery in Ogun State. After the project couldn't get the necessary approval, he said he had to repay the bank loan he had taken — including the interest. He eventually found land in Lagos and paid $100 million for it. But there was a problem. The land was marshy. Dangote said: “I bought land in Lagos for $100M, not knowing it was marshy.” The company then had to carry out massive land reclamation work. Dangote said 65 million tons of sand were pumped onto the site to raise the land. So before the massive refinery we see today was built, there was already a huge battle just to get the right piece of land and make it suitable for construction. I found this part of Dangote's story fascinating, so I put together a short video using his own explanation of what happened. Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy06RNISL7o What do you guys think? Would you have taken that kind of risk after discovering the land was marshy? Aliko Dangote has officially sounded the gong at the Nigerian Exchange as the Dangote Refinery IPO goes live. This is a major moment for Nigeria’s capital market because the Dangote Refinery becomes the first refinery ever offered on the Nigerian stock market in the NGX’s 66-year history. But what caught my attention was not just the IPO itself. It was what Dangote said about what comes next. Speaking at the launch in Lagos, Dangote described the offering as a “people’s IPO”, saying the group wants Nigerians to participate in the prosperity created by the company. He also made a much bigger promise: “We, as a group, will list every single company that we operate.” Then came an even more ambitious target. Dangote said that by 2030, the market value of his group should be at least $350 billion, assuming a 10-times price-to-earnings ratio. He also predicted that the refinery could become the largest company in Africa by the end of this year, telling investors to look beyond revenue and focus on profitability and future potential. And there was another major revelation. Dangote said the company plans to expand into the United States within the next three years and eventually join the American stock market. He also said the company aims to supply up to 10% of total US oil imports. Whether all these ambitions will happen exactly as projected is another question. But one thing is clear: Dangote is no longer talking about the refinery simply as a Nigerian industrial project. He is talking about building companies that can compete for capital on the global stage. I put together a short video covering what Dangote said at the NGX, the refinery IPO, his $350 billion valuation target, the US expansion plans, and his message to potential investors. Watch the full video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nspXLMToA8o What do you guys think? Is Dangote Refinery really on its way to becoming Africa’s biggest company, or are these projections too ambitious?
