Yes those oil wells originally belongs to imo state. My parents has been both imo and rivers state indigenes because of oil politics. We Dey for imo they moved us to rivers and later some parts back to imo.

The same supreme Court settled dispute between Bayelsa state and rivers on the Soku oil field, it will be mundane for Bayelsa to be claiming those fields today.

Yes, two states in Southwestern Nigeria produce crude oil: Ondo State and Lagos State.

The Dahomey Basin where Lagos oil comes from is home only to SW states, so there is no way your claim that they gave Akwa Ibom oil to lagos is correct.

lol I must admit that there are tribal sentiments in my writeup but however, those are facts! Check all my replies I never said southwest doesn’t produce crude oil. I said that ondo figures are false and I stand by my statement that Lagos doesn’t currently produce any oil. I continue to mention imo oil wells ceded to rivers because wike begged the governor for them to share revenues from those wells but the governor refused and insisted on total recovery which led the case to Supreme Court ( we know wike heavy influence on Nigeria judiciary) and unfortunately imo state lost. These wells are in imo state and I know that because the affected wells are in my local government.

I also never said that Lagos oil wells belongs to Akwa Ibom, you might want to read my replies well to understand what I was saying.


Cross river was formerly an oil producing state but after the oil producing area of bakassi peninsula was ceded to cameroun and akwa ibom took them to court to recover disputed offshore fields, cross river ceased to be an oil producing state and doesn’t receive 13% derivation. Same with Lagos state after the aje field dried up Lagos stopped being an oil producing state and doesn’t receive 13% derivation.

My anger here is that a lot of south west media houses has the habit of manipulating oil production statistics when they knew it was entirely false. There was no time Lagos ever produced 40k barrels even at the aje field peak production. There was also no time Lagos received more derivation than imo state. But for some unknown reasons (well, we know the reason) they just keep peddling this falsehood and presenting it as facts just like the op did with this thread.

States get paid for offshore oil, but the government definitely uses different formulas for land, swamp, and deep offshore production.

States with most of their wells on land usually get more money than those with swamp or offshore fields.

That’s why Akwa Ibom, even as the biggest producer, gets less than Delta and Rivers states. Lagos has the Aje oil fields, but they only get derivation money when that field is actually producing.

Derivation is based on output, not reserves, so it’s possible the data in that post is based on reserves, or maybe someone just made it all up to get people arguing.

lol stop consoling yourself. Show us data to back that onshore are paid more than offshore. The stat is obviously made up 😁because there is no reliable record of what each state produces officially from the government. Akwa ibom can not always be the highest producer each year. Wells dry up and under produce, new wells are drilled and developed. So a state can produce 250k barrels per day averagely in 2020 and produce 210k in 2021 and produce 320k in 2022. So 13% derivation is purely calculated based on output.The problem is that many fake news blogs have deliberately manufactured data to keep south east states down and deliberately inflate south west to suit certain narratives. Even before Anambra was declared an oil producing state, a lot of oil was produced in anyim and ogbaru areas of Anambra and was declared for delta state, hence delta eating Anambra derivation. There was never a time south west produced more crude oil than south east. Many imo state oil wells are being counted for rivers state currently and it is unfortunate imo state lost the litigation against wike in the supreme court. So my brother, disregard this fake stats.

lol I knew the aje field had long dried up😂. Even at its production peak it never produced anywhere close to 40k barrels per day. The last derivation it got was a paltry 3 million naira per year 😁. That aje field normally should not have been developed because it didn’t have large reserves but there was a lot of political will to develop it. Do you know how many wells in the south east and south south that has been capped because of the reservoir quality and quantity? From the derivation breakdown i initially posted you would see that imo state had the highest increase of over 174%. This means that more production activities happened in the state between 2024-2025 because a lot of new wells are discovered and older ones are moving to production. About last 2 weeks seplat has started producing from a well in mbieri(mbaitolu local government area, a new area outside the traditional ohaji/egbema/oguta area that has been producing imo state oil) after being capped since the 1990s.
South east wells are producing fresh and new oil while south west wells continue to dry up. Anambra is producing a lot of oil and will soon displace imo state and even displace rivers or bayelsa within the next decade.
A time will come when Nigerian government won’t be able to hide the fact again that south east is the future of Nigeria gas and oil. Many wells have even dried up in rivers state mainly from the riverine ijaw and ogoni shallow waters that is why rivers state output is gradually declining

Bakassi was handed over to Cameroun because it was in the eastern region. Nigeria will never hand over Lagos to Benin irrespective of whatever agreement or treaties the colonial masters signed. No Igbo or eastern president will ever hand over bakassi to cameroun irrespective of whatever any international court says. Britain, France, Russia, USA etc are holding unto foreign territories that they don’t even have borders with irrespective of international rulings. This is a very strategic island occupied by effiks and ibibios who are part of eastern aro confederacy and any eastern government would have defended it at whatever cost. There is no scenario where cameroun overpowers Nigeria in combat to take bakassi. Obasanjo saw it as a land occupied by ‘minority slaves’ and think it was not worth any headache. I don’t even think that any northern leader would have ceded that territory but trust Yorubas to easily give it away.
It is not yet late, Nigerian can seize that territory militarily or fund an insurgency there which will cause cameroun to negotiate, but we the political will to do that. Those people are treated as outcasts because the cameroun government sees them as Nigerians and not part of cameroun and only made effort to take them due to French pressure whom are interested in the oil their.

The whole idea of derivation is to compensate people that are impacted by the oil production. Offshore production does not have any direct impact on the people of Lagos.

Also, most Nigerian oil fields are located onshore. The few offshore ones are mainly in akwa ibom state. Nigeria stats are heavily manipulated to keep a particular section of the country down after the civil war. Anyone with a working brain free of ethno religious bias can easily decipher the truth for themselves. Lagos has no oil. Ondo produces little. I remember Buhari prospecting for oil and declaring to have found oil in commercial quantities in one northern state like that, today what is happening? If offshore fields influence how much a state receives in comparison to how much they actually produced, what will you say about abia and Anambra? From the op stats anambra produces as little as 3000 barrels while abia produces 11000 but from 13% derivation data both states received almost same amount! Both states doesn’t have ocean boundary so they can’t have offshore fields. So where is the data discrepancy coming from? The op should shamefully tell the mods to close this thread! There are no current official records of what each state in Nigeria actually produces in terms of number of crude oil barrels produced daily for each state. And this is by design!. Claiming that ondo produces 60k and Lagos produces 40k with no actual data to back it is pure propaganda and outright lies. You need to understand the differences between onshore, shallow offshore and offshore production.

Only onshore(land) and shallow offshore(swanp) gets derivation. If your oil is deep offshore, you get nothing.

So it is possible for ondo and lagos to produce more oil and get less derivation than the SE states

lol I don’t know who you think you are talking to. Most of akwa ibom oil production is offshore and they still get 13% for it. Ondo state has little to no onshore fields. Most of its oil production are shallow offshore fields and they receive derivation for those fields. I don’t think ondo has any deep water fields as you can see from the screenshot and even if it had you can’t term it as ondo property because these are fields in the ocean and if ondo was a country it would not have enough lands to claim that depth of water as it would be regarded as international water.

Edo state produces more oil than ondo and ondo produces slightly higher oil than imo state. South east produces nearly twice the oil that south west does. Igbo speaking areas produce over 70% of rivers state oil, infact one local government alone ogba/egbema/ndoni local government produces about 30% of rivers state oil (I was born in egbema. Egbema produces so much oil that parts of egbema land was ceded to rivers state because of oil, this is an area I know very well).

If oil production was classified by tribe, igbos produce the highest oil in Nigeria and maybe in Africa. Like I said earlier, Nigeria oil production data is shrouded in secrecy because if the data is made transparent and available, a lot of narrative will change.

The figures you quoted for abia and imo are wrong because summing the amount the 2 states receive from 13% derivation exceeds what ondo state gets. So if you claim that ondo produces 60k that means imo produces over 40k and abia produces over 20k.
The real figures each state produces has been shrouded in secrecy because it will upturn many narrative the government does not want.
