Nice one bro. May you have plenty harvest. But my question is this, can one use in organic fertilizer? Also, did you use any pesticide?

Organic fertilizer is expensive but effective.I sprayed pesticide.i plan to spray this Saturday or Monday before the 1st harvest.

Do you water the plant? Because, I wanted to start cucumber farming but I heard that one can't do it without any form of irrigation.

For now no,i am taking advantage of the rainy season.i plan to put in place irrigation during dry season.

The secret of successful cucumber is land preparation.i discovered this in my little time farming cucumber.
Please plough the ground well before making beds.Get rid of stumps and spread your manure evenly over the bed before planting or after planting.
If you are using chicken dropping,you can apply with water or spread it on the bare floor to get rid of the heat.

Yes Ezinwa25 is right.Most high breed seeds can take 30 days but the particular one I'm cultivating is 37-47 days.

Today is my birthday and It is fifteen days I planted cucumber and it was great experience to watch them on my birthday.we will stake and manure next week.

I plant directly.i discovered from research that you can plant directly.

This is my first experience but im keeping records and hopefully second week of September when we start harvesting.i will know precisely how many fruits a seed can produce.

Today makes it 10 days

I bought a Thai seed, 50 grams for 6000.

Thanks Willie,i will the power tractor. I just discovered my spacing was not adequate. I went to ministry of agriculture yesterday for enquiries and was fortunate to meet a cucumber farmer that explained to me that I must stake because of my spacing.

You need to start keeping ur cost under check frm the onset. 25k may be outrageous for clearing nd bed on a plot (Where is ur location). Secondly, I hope u av a reliable wetting program. Best of luck bro

I'm in Aluu, Port Harcourt. We have regular rainfall and immediately it start flowering, I make sure they are watered.

Manual labor is a major issue almost everywhere apart from the North where we have army of Almajiris. Only alternative is to use basic garden tools that costs money and not readily available in Naija. For example, a small walking tractor will make complete your bed within an hour.

Pls willie2015, how much is the cost of the walking tractor.

how many plots is ur farm and how many seeds are planted

I have 4 plots at this location but I'm using 1 plot since this is my first experience. I have 17 plot in another location but not fenced.

Things learnt so far.
1.Getting the right labour is tedious; I discovered that it is cheaper to use novice than experience.
If you know the job ,just get people that are new to cucumber farming but are farmers and tell them what u want and you will reduce your cost.
I personally met with some experience cucumber labour workers and the charged me 25k after negotiation per plot but using the other reduced my cost.the did not only till the farm and prepare the bed,the also helped me to plant my seedling.

Wow! I had a great time.I'm tired because I was personally involved.
This morning ,I resumed as planned, after prayers. I met my labourers already working and we completed the tilling and planting of my cucumber seeds today.
Later in the night I will be posting what I learnt personally and what I will do next time.
