📌 INTRODUCTION

A hydraulic press is a machine that uses liquid pressure to produce a large force from a small applied force. It is based on a fundamental principle in physics known as Pascal’s Principle.

PASCAL’S PRINCIPLE

Pascal’s Principle states:

Pressure applied to a confined liquid is transmitted equally in all directions without loss.

This means that when you apply force to a liquid in a closed system, the pressure spreads evenly throughout the liquid.

🧱 STRUCTURE OF A HYDRAULIC PRESS

A hydraulic press consists of:

Two Cylinders:
One small cylinder (input side)
One large cylinder (output side)
Pistons
Each cylinder contains a movable piston
Hydraulic Fluid
Usually oil (because it is incompressible)

WORKING PRINCIPLE

When force is applied to the small piston, it creates pressure in the fluid:

𝑃=𝐹/𝐴

P= pressure
A= Area
F= force applied

This pressure is transmitted to the large piston, producing a larger force

MATHEMATICAL RELATION

From Pascal’s Principle:

F1/A1 = F2/A2
