In the mid 2006, I gained admission to GCI,
school II as a boarder…
I am an easy going guy that loves being quiet
when lonely but my loneliness didn’t last long

Lionel Messi was named La Liga’s best striker and best player in the 2014-15 season at the LFP (Spanish Football League) Gala Awards Ceremony on Monday, helping Barcelona to claim five prizes to rival club Real Madrid’s three.

Messi, 28, scored 43 La Liga goals last campaign as Barca won the league title as well as the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

It is the sixth time the Argentina international has won the prizes, with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo beating him in 2013-14.

Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua has released a controversial YouTube video purportedly showing the healing of a man with horrific snake-like scales across his body. The clip titled, ‘A Video You Will Never Forget’ shows Mr Jude Oraka from Anambra State, Nigeria, receiving prayer from the popular cleric during a prayer service at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos.

Oraka, a driver by profession, claimed he fell victim to a strange skin disease six years ago which “defied medical comprehension”. Jude’s sister described him as a “walking corpse” whom the family had given up on. However, several months after receiving prayer, Oraka returned with smooth skin to testify that “he was healed by Jesus Christ through T.B. Joshua”.

The clip has already racked up over 100,000 views since its release and attracted hundreds of comments from both skeptics and believers alike. Joshua is not a stranger to controversy, making headlines this week for not showing up at a court case surrounding the deadly collapse of a building within his church premises last year. Emmanuel TV, which debuted on DStv and GOtv last month, is one of the most popular Christian television stations in Africa. No two people can agree all the time and even when you are in love, you are bound to fight sometimes. This was the response from the JAMB boss Professor Dibu Ojerinde while reacting to the recent uproar over the list of eligible candidates sent to institutions. According To him, the reason behind this new admission policy is to help candidates not only get admission but get it on time. Below are excerpts of the exact words of the JAMB Boss; The big universities are overloaded. Can you imagine 8,000 students seeking for admission to study law in a university that will take only 250 candidates for law! The remaining 7750 candidates will wait endlessly and hopelessly till the end of the admission. Or imagine 7500 candidates seeking for medicine in a university. Of these 7500 candidates, 2000 scored above 250 in the UTME. The university has a carrying capacity of only 150 candidates for medicine. The remaining 7350 who scored above 200 will be wasted. Particularly, 1750 candidates who scored above 250 will be wasted while other universities either do not have enough candidates or high scoring candidates. Courses like Biological Sciences, Agric Engineering and related courses are lacking in candidacy! We are saying, let's give them a feel of chance somewhere else that has not gotten enough candidates by sending the names of these HIGH scorers to "needy" universities. The names of such surplus candidates are being distributed to first Federal institutions, then State and finally Private institutions in that order depending on: • Availability of space in other universities, • Choice of the course of the candidate, • The geographical Zone of the choice of the candidate, and • Performance of the candidate. By this approach, wastage of HIGH scores will be reduced, the fate of the candidates will be determined on time and yet the interest of their areas of study may be satisfied. addition, the concept of selection by • Merit, • Catchment Area, and • Educationally Less Developed States Will be adequately catered for. However, I am not saying that everyone will get admission or even get their original choice of course of study. But it is better than wasting the time, finances, and good scores of these candidates. We need to fill the available spaces as given to us by the regulatory bodies like NUC, NBTE, and NCCE. If, however, a candidate does not want the given opportunity, it is too "baaaad". This scenario was made clear to the institutions during the Policy meeting that took place on 14th July this year in Abuja. Before the Policy meeting, we had discussions with the representatives of the Federal, State, and Private universities where the degree of the problems of candidates were presented and solutions were proffered. These decisions were backed up by copious statistics of applications to various universities. Again “Father forgive them, for they know not what they are saying" I believe that some so- called educational consultants have some hidden agenda which are being thwarted by our proactive steps. Let them know that this is a period of CHANGE. If they do not CHANGE they will be CHANGED.

A three-year-old boy, Emmanuel Samuel, died on Sunday after he fell inside a well in front of a building on Hassan Sule Street, Ita Oluwo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The kindergarten pupil, his elder brother, Timileyin Samuel, and some of their friends were said to be playing around 3pm in the area when the deceased accidentally strayed into the well.

PUNCH Metro learnt that residents and officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, who came to the area after receiving a distress call, had difficulties rescuing the victim due to the depth of the well.

It was gathered that a member of the Oodua People’s Congress later summoned up courage and went down the well to rescue the boy at about 7pm. He brought out the boy dead.

It was learnt that the well was dug about eight years ago by the landlord of the building but was abandoned when it did not produce water.

Some youths were said to have become angry with the landlord for leaving the well open. They reportedly stormed the residence and broke some window glasses.

The landlord, Bamidele Ogunwole, was said to have been arrested on Monday after the incident was reported at the Ogijo Police Division, Ogun State.

The family members of the deceased were still wailing on Monday when PUNCH Metro visited the area. Emmanuel’s mother, Kikelolomo, who spoke in tears, described the deceased as her “everything.”

She said,

“He had brothers and sisters, but he was my everything. He was very intelligent and smart. It was his brother that rushed to tell me he had drowned.”

The father, Sergeant Abu Samuel, said what pained him most was the fact that the landlord buried his child without his consent.

“I was on duty when I was called that my son had drowned only to come back home and be told he was dead. To add insult to injury, that man (the landlord) buried my child somewhere in Agodo without my consent,” he said.

Residents described Emmanuel’s death as avoidable. One of them, who identified herself only as Esther, said,

“It is very easy for anybody to get trapped in a well that is left open like this. One of the man’s tenants told me that they had complained several times to the landlord, but he ignored them.”

The lawyer for the family, P.O. Idogun, accused the police of “foot-dragging,” adding that no relative of the suspect had shown up at the police station.
