PoliticsWhy We Can’t Announce Results Of Akpabio’s Election – INEC by Damony(op): 10:39pm On Feb 25, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akwa Ibom State has said that it cannot declare the results for the Akwa Ibom North-West District because of insecurity in the area.
Godswill Akpabio, the senator representing the district, contested for a second term. His main challenger is Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Apart from Akwa Ibom North-West, INEC has declared PDP the winner in the other two senatorial districts in the state.
There has been suspense and tension over the election result, with both APC and the PDP accusing each other of rigging.
Messrs Akpabio and Ekpenyong have claimed victory, even when INEC is yet to announce the election result.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mike Igini, said on Monday in Uyo, “The results are ready, but INEC can’t declare it in Uyo. The law says the election results must be declared at the senatorial district. The report we are getting about the security situation in Ikot Ekpene is that it is not okay for INEC to go there and announce results.”

Mr Igini was speaking to journalists at the State Collation Centre, Uyo, after the completion of the declaration of results of the presidential election in Akwa Ibom.
Mr Akpabio’s local government area, Essien Udim, was the last of the local government areas in the state to declare results of the presidential election.
Mr Igini said the returning officer for Essien Udim, William Olusunde, a lecturer at the University of Uyo, had to run for his life during the elections.
“The electoral officer too (in Essien Udim) has been going through a lot, I can confirm to you. He has not slept for days. Even myself, I have not slept.
“I have records of presiding officers who were speaking to me in low tones because of where they were and what was going on. God gave the returning officer wisdom, and today he is alive,” Mr Igini said.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari had a slight win against the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Mr Akpabio’s local government area, according to the result released by the INEC.
Mr Buhari scored 7,766 votes in the area, while Mr Abubakar had 5,980 votes.
The total valid votes cast in the presidential election in the area, INEC said, was 13,901.
The returning officer, Mr Olusunde, said after the election in the area they checked through the card readers and were able to discover that the number of votes was more than the accredited voters at some polling units. “Because of that we had to cancel some votes in some units,” he said.

PoliticsINEC Verdict: We Have Not Declared That Senator Akpabio Has Lost Election by Damony(op): 1:34pm On Feb 25, 2019
There have been speculations on social media that Senator Godswill Akapbio has lost the elections in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District to the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Chris Ekpenyong.

However, the REC dispelled the rumours saying, “Nobody has declared election results in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District”.

megareal:
Kindly shut up. Akpabio is not as loved as you claim. His move to APC and his trying to play God made people turn their backs on him. Even prominent Annang sons and daughters are not with him. His only way to make it in the elections is to rig and he shot himself in the foot too when he rigged above the numbers of voters in his area. So stop grandstanding for Akpabio.
Oga, calm down. I have a very lengthy reply for you but I can't type now because of what I'm doing this morning. But take it from me that, the result will shock PdP and the Hateful Ibibio People

urose93:
How much do you know Akwa Ibom?
Stop using insults when making your point. There is a clear difference between registered voters population and just plain residents with no voters card.
Essien Udim people for the love of their sons and daughters who may be contesting, troupe out in their numbers for proper voters registration.
They were so enlighten of the need of the process, and free busses were provided to convey people to and from the voters registration centers.
I speak with authority because I made an integral part of the process - voters education.
Tell me any L. G. A in Akwa Ibom State that were that mobilized, supported and encourage during registration.
N/B I am neither pdp nor apc, I stand for the will of the people and true democracy.

Only if you know how this man is loved amongst the civils servants and majority of indigenes in the state, then you would understand how impossible it is to defeat him in his own senatorial district by another Man, who during when he was serving as a deputy Governor to obong Attah(the first civilian Governor in my state) didn't contribute to the development of the state nor Senatorial district, but was rather embezzling public fund. It was on this ground that obong Attah sacked him from continuing as his deputy in his first term and appointed another person as his deputy in that same first term!

My Brother, I am an Akwa Ibomite from his senatorial district. It came to us as a big surprise when the rumor was everywhere; whereas there was no official authentication from Inec, that the most loved and uncommon senator has been defeated.

PDP in my state did so many rigging. What pains me most is the way they cry victim over the very HAVOC caused by them. Do you know that, In the very polling Unit in Uyo where I voted, the Women there were persuading me to vote for PdP, that money had been released for vote buying; claiming that everyone in my poll unit who would vote for PdP would be entitled to 5k; That if not for the presence of the Police they would have started sharing the money; That all what I have to do is to wait after the exercise so I would be paid!

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the announcement of results in Akwa Ibom North-West District, where Godswill Akpabio contested for re-election.

An INEC official in the state told PREMIUM TIMES, Sunday night, that Mr Akpabio’s challenger, Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was leading in the results announced so far before the commission took a decision to suspend further announcement.

“We are having some issues with the election in Essien Udim Local Government Area,” said the official who did not want his name mentioned in this report because he was not authorised to speak on the matter.

“If we accept the results from the local government area, Akpabio’s votes will overshoot that of Chris Ekpenyong.

“There are issues in the results which we are yet to be resolved,” the official said.

Messrs Akpabio and Ekpenyong are yet to speak on the development.

Essien Udim, where Mr Akpabio comes from, is said to be one of the local government areas with a large voter’s population in the state.

The senator in a result released on Saturday by INEC in his own polling unit, Ukana West Ward 2, scored 1, 533 votes, while Mr Ekpenyong, a former deputy governor of the state, scored just four votes.

Mr Akpabio’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), before the commencement of the elections, had accused the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Akwa Ibom, Mike Igini, of being partisan in favour of the PDP.

The APC had called for Mr Igini’s re-deployment from the state.

The PDP responded by saying the APC was agitated because the REC refused to be “compromised” by the party.

Mr Igini has a reputation in Nigeria as being an incorruptible electoral officer.

If Mr Akpabio fails to win re-election, it would be a major political upset in the country.
