OUR COMMON RIVERS On this Independence Day, we call on every Rivers citizen—regardless of political affiliation, senatorial district, ethnicity, religion, age or social status—to recommit to peace, democratic participation, mutual respect, accountability and the common good. Let us reject the politics that divides Rivers people against Rivers people. Let us build a state where political competition does not destroy relationships, where power is treated as a responsibility rather than an entitlement, and where government belongs to the people. The Young Progressives Party and our mandate ticket approach the coming democratic contest with confidence, humility and an unwavering belief in the capacity of Rivers people to choose a new direction. We do not seek to inherit the divisions of yesterday. We seek to participate in building the possibilities of tomorrow. IT IS TIME TO GET IT RIGHT Let this Independence Day mark more than another anniversary. Let it become a moment of renewed consciousness about the Rivers we can build together. A chapter in which unity is stronger than division, citizenship is stronger than political affiliation, development is stronger than rhetoric, freedom is stronger than fear, and the future is greater than the conflicts of the past. The Rivers we desire is possible. The Rivers we deserve is achievable. And with courage, tolerance, imagination, discipline, collective responsibility and the democratic will of our people, we can begin the journey. Our message is simple: It is time to get it right. It is time for a united Rivers. It is time for a free Rivers. It is time for a prosperous Rivers. It is time to build the Rivers State that belongs to all of us. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria. Happy Independence Day, Rivers State. Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr. Comrade Awala Uwuma YPP Governorship Ticket, Rivers State Young Progressives Party

BREAKING NEWS Blessing Fubara Emerges YPP Governorship Candidate, Signals New Political Chapter for Rivers ...Picks Comrade Uwuma Awala As Deputy PORT HARCOURT — The political atmosphere in Rivers State has taken a fresh turn following the emergence of Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr. as the gubernatorial candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) ahead of the 2027 governorship election. A professional Bachelor of Science degree holder in Community Development and Adult Education, with over two decades of practical experience in value creation, profit-driven strategies, strategic innovation, and the successful delivery of impactful projects and development initiatives. His emergence introduces a new dimension into the Rivers political conversation, with the YPP candidate who was the new political hope for Rivers State during his first appearance into the scene under the platform of NDC, presenting himself as a vehicle for competence, fresh energy, political neutrality, economic renewal and a decisive reset of governance in the state. At the heart of his message is a simple but consequential proposition: “LET’S GET IT RIGHT.” ……..yes we can! Our Rivers!your Rivers!! My Rivers!!! For Fubara, the 2027 contest is not merely about changing political platforms. It is about rebuilding confidence in government, restoring the dignity of the Rivers people and creating a new leadership culture capable of translating the enormous human and economic potential of the state into measurable development. A NEW HOPE FOR RIVERS SOUTH-EAST Fubara’s emergence is also expected to resonate particularly strongly across the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, where questions surrounding political rotation, representation and the understanding of power-sharing among the senatorial districts have remained important elements of political discourse. For many stakeholders from the district, the issue has become intertwined with a sense that the political expectations attached to their mandate have not received the respect they anticipated. Fubara’s candidacy therefore provides a fresh platform for that conversation — not as a campaign of bitterness or exclusion, but as an opportunity to restore confidence, dignity and hope among communities that believe their political aspirations deserve meaningful consideration. The emerging message is one of reconciliation and renewal: Rivers South-East should not lose faith in its political voice, and Rivers State should not be permanently trapped in cycles of political confrontation. A RESET, NOT ANOTHER ROUND OF POLITICAL BATTLES What distinguishes the emerging Fubara narrative is its emphasis on a political reset. Rather than presenting the 2027 election simply as another contest between established political camps, the YPP campaign is positioning itself around the argument that Rivers needs something new, energetic, intellectually grounded and broadly inclusive. The proposition is straightforward: Rivers requires leadership that can move beyond political calculations and concentrate on governance — security, jobs, infrastructure, education, healthcare, investment, youth opportunity and the restoration of confidence in the state. That message is encapsulated in the emerging “Let’s Get It Right” movement: a call for Rivers people to demand competence, clarity of purpose, accountability and results. COMPETENCE, ARTICULATION AND LEADERSHIP Fubara enters the race seeking to build his political identity around competence, articulation, strategic thinking and leadership capacity. His supporters point to his experience across community development, policy advocacy, consulting, youth development and public-sector engagement as part of the foundation upon which he intends to build his governorship campaign. The campaign is expected to place significant emphasis on a government that listens before acting, identifies problems through evidence and delivers solutions with measurable outcomes. In that sense, the emerging political proposition is not simply about who occupies Government House. It is about what kind of government Rivers State should have next. FROM POLITICAL FATIGUE TO FRESH HOPE After years of intense political disagreements and competing interests, the emergence of a new YPP candidacy creates another avenue for Rivers voters, political actors, professionals, youths, traditional stakeholders and grassroots communities to reassess the direction of the state. Fubara’s message is increasingly framed around peace without weakness, progress without discrimination, development without exclusion and leadership without unnecessary political hostility. It is a call for Rivers to rediscover confidence in itself. A call for the state to move from political fatigue to productive governance. A call for a new generation of Rivers leadership to demonstrate that competence and political neutrality can coexist with courage and decisive action. THE 2027 QUESTION With the YPP now entering the contest with Fubara as its candidate, the political conversation in Rivers State is set for another significant phase. The question before the electorate will ultimately extend beyond party colours and personalities: What kind of Rivers State do the people want to build after 2027? For Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr., the answer is encapsulated in four words: LET’S GET IT RIGHT. A new political chapter has opened. A new conversation has begun. And the road to 2027 has taken another consequential turn. MEET COMRADE UWUMA AWALA THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR Born on 31 December 1986 to the late Sir Vincent Sam Awala and Dame Hon. Beatrice Awala, Comrade Uwuma Awala is the second of four children and hails from Ahoada East in Rivers West Senatorial District. A Christian and Anglican, she serves as a Bishop’s Nominee in the Anglican Diocese of Ahoada, combining professional, civic and political engagement with service to her church and community. She began her education at Bereton Montessori Nursery and Primary School, Port Harcourt, before proceeding to Federal Government Girls’ College, Abuloma, and De World International Secondary School. Awala holds a B.Sc. in Accounting from Rivers State University and completed her National Youth Service Corps programme at Oguta Local Government Council, Imo State. Professionally, she began her career with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation in 2014 and rose to the position of Senior Accountant in the Audit Department. Her professional experience covers public-sector accounting, auditing, financial management and accountability. Her political involvement dates back to 2014. She worked with the political team of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and subsequently served as a Special Assistant on Media at the local-government level. She later served on the Disciplinary Committee of the APC in Rivers State under the leadership of former Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. In the 2023 general elections, Awala contested the Rivers State House of Assembly seat for Ahoada East Constituency I on the APC platform. Independent election records list Awala Uwuma Umanta as the APC candidate for the constituency. Beyond politics and public service, Awala has been associated with Rotary International since 2018 and serves as Public Image Chair of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan. Her stated community-service interests include health, education, youth development, women’s empowerment, literacy and humanitarian initiatives. A TWO-PERSON TICKET The emergence of Blessing Fubara Snr. and Comrade Uwuma Awala brings together backgrounds in community development, public-sector engagement, financial management, political organisation and grassroots community service. The YPP ticket now enters a new phase of political engagement as the candidates prepare to present their vision, policy priorities and development agenda to voters and stakeholders across Rivers State. Attention will also turn to the organisation of the campaign structure, mobilisation across the 23 Local Government Areas, stakeholder engagement and the articulation of the candidates’ proposed social and economic agenda for the state. INT’L YOUTH DAY: FASTHIRE LEAD URGES NIGER DELTA YOUTHS TO EMBRACE ENTERPRISE, SKILLS AND PROFESSIONAL VISIBILITY Fasthire Services, a subsidiary of Okverse Services Limited, has reaffirmed its commitment to helping young people access meaningful career opportunities, develop relevant skills and build sustainable livelihoods across the Niger Delta. The Fasthire Lead, Mr. Richard Okiasi, who also serves as the NACCIMA Youth Entrepreneurs Coordinator for the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, made the call while speaking as a panelist at an event organised by the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) to mark the 2026 International Youth Day in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The event, themed “Empowering Youth Through Career Pathways for Economic Development and Sustainable Peace in the Niger Delta,” brought together more than 320 youths from Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Edo and Abia States. Representing Fasthire Services, a subsidiary of Okverse Services Limited who are in partnership with PIND for this event, Okiasi urged Niger Delta youths to move beyond dependency and entitlement mentality by embracing entrepreneurship, innovation, skills development and professional visibility as pathways to economic independence. He challenged young people to take greater responsibility for creating opportunities rather than seeing themselves primarily as recipients of government or oil-sector opportunities. According to him, Fasthire Services is positioned to contribute to bridging the gap between skills, talent and economic opportunities, particularly by encouraging young people to pursue career pathways that connect learning with employment, entrepreneurship, mentorship and practical experience. Okiasi also urged young professionals to deliberately showcase their abilities and document their achievements both online and offline, particularly on professional platforms such as LinkedIn. He stressed that visibility builds credibility, noting that the talents and accomplishments of young people in the Niger Delta must be seen, recognised and trusted if they are to attract opportunities, investors and partnerships. The Executive Director of PIND, Mr. Sam Daibo, represented by Mr. Patrick Ekpe, said youth empowerment must go beyond training to include functional systems that connect skills with sustainable economic opportunities. The event also featured a Career Opportunities and Support Fair, exposing participants to opportunities across ICT, agribusiness, renewable energy, construction, hospitality and other emerging sectors. Okiasi noted that the Niger Delta’s greatest resource is not only its oil, but also its youthful, creative and innovative population, calling for stronger collaboration among businesses, development organisations, government and other stakeholders to transform youth potential into productive enterprise and sustainable livelihoods. Through Fasthire Services, Okiasi said the focus remains on supporting a future where young people are not merely seeking opportunities, but are equipped and positioned to create, attract and maximise them.
