Ondo State Finance Commissioner Sues Betty Akeredolu Anyanwu for N1 Billion in Defamation Lawsuit

A High Court in Akure, Ondo State, has issued a summons to Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the widow of former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, following a defamation suit filed by the state’s Commissioner of Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac.

The legal action stems from an interview published in Starnews online newspaper on February 13, 2025, where Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu made controversial statements about her late husband’s medical treatment and allegedly made accusations of corruption against the finance commissioner.

Court documents reveal that the summons, marked HCAK/53/CIV/2025, requires Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu and her associate, Mr. Olumide Akinrinlola, to appear in court within 30 days. The lawsuit seeks:

N1 billion in damages, including exemplary damages
A perpetual injunction preventing further publication of the alleged defamatory statements
A full-page retraction and apology in two national newspapers

The dispute originated from Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu’s interview, where she claimed that if her late husband had listened to her medical advice regarding his prostate cancer, she would not have been widowed. She advocated for orthodox medicine, while the late governor reportedly preferred prayer-based treatment.

Mrs. Isaac’s primary grievance centered on allegations that Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu had implied corruption in her removal from the governor’s cabinet. Prior to filing the lawsuit, Mrs. Isaac’s lawyer had issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding a retraction of the statements.

The court has warned that failure to respond could result in the case proceeding and a judgment being made in the defendants’ absence.

Nairaland GeneralUBA Bank Sued Over Alleged Fraudulent COVID-19 Loans, Unauthorized Acc Deduction by danhydepro(op): 12:46am On Feb 22, 2025
Chinedu Nwoke, a customer of United Bank for Africa (UBA), has filed a lawsuit against the bank and NISRAL Microfinance Bank at the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, alleging unauthorized deductions from his account tied to a N700,000 COVID-19 relief loan he insists he never applied for or received.

In his legal petition, Nwoke claims the disputed loan—processed using his Bank Verification Number (BVN)—resulted in his accounts and BVN being blacklisted across Nigeria’s banking system, barring him from accessing financial services. He denies any involvement in the transaction and accuses the institutions of fraudulent activity.

During the case’s initial hearing on Friday, Nwoke’s legal representative, Mr. Chinedu Iheanacho, requested an adjournment to prepare for substantive proceedings. Justice Ayo Emmanuel, presiding over the matter, adjourned the case to March 31 for further hearing.

The defendants, UBA and NISRAL Microfinance Bank, were represented in court by Mr. Precious John, standing in for lead defense counsel Mr. Evaristus Ozioko.

Nwoke seeks redress for the financial and reputational damage caused by the alleged unauthorized withdrawal and subsequent banking restrictions. The case highlights growing concerns over accountability in loan disbursements and BVN-linked transactions within Nigeria’s financial sector.

BusinessSterling Bank Accused Of Money Laundering And Fraudulent Deductions By Police by danhydepro(op): 10:01pm On Jan 23, 2025
The Nigeria police has accused Sterling Bank of alleged money laundering, fraudulent deductions and other financial crimes by its staff.

This was contained in the report presented by Nigeria Police Force to the House of Representative Committee on Public Petition during the hearing of a petition by Miden Systems Ltd against Sterling Bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Shell Petroleum on Tuesday in Abuja.

Miden System Ltd., had witten a petition to the Committee on the alleged mismanagement, fraudulent debit, and misappropriation of funds from its account domiciled with Sterling bank.

Presenting the report before the committee, representative of the Inspector General of Police, Kabiru Yahaya and Sunny Amison, both Chief Superintendent of Police said after intensive investigation and arrest made on the matter, the bank was found wanting.

“We need to understand it was restructured in 2017, with capital and interest to arrive at US$30 million.

“Having regard to the account, we, a team of detectives, started seeing debits, debits from Miden System account for loan repayment. And we took it upon ourselves to ask the account officer that first came before us to explain the loan repayment but he said it was a mere narration adopted while applying funds to the company’s loan account.

“We found this very vague and ambiguous.
“We discovered that about US$28.3 million was debited from this company’s account for loan repayment but there’s no explanation.

“Particularly, on the 29th, September 2016, the sum of US$2,413,000 was debited from the company’s account. Account number 00148517716 for loan repayment with reference FT16271UZYO. On 14th, November 2016, the sum of US$1.256 million was equally debited from this same account for loan repayment.

“While on the 16th of January 2017, the sum of US$28,302,140.59 was debited from the company’s account for loan repayment. And like I said, we’ve waited for the bank to provide account officers who have managed this account to throw more light on this. It is not our document.

“It is their own document. The facts are before them. If somebody has managed that account before and is no longer an account officer, they could call them, provide names since they are no longer in the bank.
“One of the account officers specifically wrote that the outstanding balance was about US$27.25 million, while the executive director gave us a figure of over US$30 million. That is to say, nothing has been paid, nothing has been debited to clear the loan.

“We equally discovered what the bank captured in the statement of account, in-branch transfer, account to account. And we asked, what does the bank or the account officers mean by in-branch transfer, account to account?

“We have come up with the recommendation that, since the bank has failed to provide evidence for itself to debunk the allegation raised by Miden Systems , evidence as used so far from their own statement of account corroborates the offences alleged. Financial mismanagement, Fraudulent debit, misappropriation of funds and more importantly, when funds are being moved that way, if you go deeper, money laundering. We could not even go deeply towards the petitioner raising their petition”, he stated.

In response, the Committee Chairman, Rep. Mike Etaba assured both parties that the report will be studied by the Commitee and justice served.
“At the committee level, we will look at the Police report and I assure us that justice will prevail,” Etaba assured.

WebmastersRe: Harmonweb Review- Don’t Host Your Website Until You Read This by danhydepro: 6:29pm On Aug 24, 2024
HarmonWeb is the worst web host anyone can ever use

HarmonWeb has been a huge disappointment. The hosting is unreliable, with frequent downtime and poor performance. Their customer support is almost impossible to reach, and when they do respond, it’s usually unhelpful. Plus, they sneak in hidden charges that make the whole experience feel like a scam. I wouldn’t recommend HarmonWeb to anyone—there are far better options out there.

I regret choosing HarmonWeb as my hosting provider. Their service is unreliable, with constant outages that crippled my website. The customer support is almost nonexistent—slow responses and no real solutions. They also have shady billing practices, with hidden fees and charges that were never clearly explained. I’ve since moved to a better host, and I strongly advise others to avoid HarmonWeb at all costs. It’s not worth the headache.

BusinessHarmonweb Is Nigeria’s Worst Web Hosting Provider ( See Reasons ) by danhydepro(op): 7:55am On Aug 24, 2024
When it comes to selecting a web hosting provider, the decision you make can have a profound impact on your website’s performance, security, and overall success. With countless hosting companies vying for your business, it's crucial to choose one that is reliable, supportive, and trustworthy. Unfortunately, HarmonWeb falls short on all these fronts. After an in-depth examination of their services, customer reviews, and overall reputation, it's clear that HarmonWeb is not the hosting provider you want to entrust with your website.

1. Unreliable Performance and Frequent Downtime
One of the most critical aspects of a web hosting provider is its reliability. Your website needs to be up and running consistently, without interruptions. Unfortunately, HarmonWeb fails miserably in this department. Numerous users have reported frequent downtime, which means their websites are often inaccessible to visitors. This not only frustrates potential customers but also negatively impacts search engine rankings.

Downtime can have a disastrous effect on your business, leading to lost sales, damaged credibility, and a poor user experience. When your website is down, your visitors will quickly lose trust in your brand, and many won’t return. With so many hosting providers boasting 99.9% uptime guarantees, there's no reason to settle for a service like HarmonWeb that can't even keep your website online reliably.

2. Slow Load Times and Poor Website Performance
Even when HarmonWeb manages to keep websites online, the performance leaves much to be desired. Slow load times are a common complaint among users. In the world of digital business, speed matters—a lot. Studies show that if a website takes more than three seconds to load, more than half of visitors will abandon it. HarmonWeb’s subpar server performance means that your site is likely to suffer from sluggish load times, leading to frustrated visitors and lost business opportunities.

Search engines like Google also take load times into account when ranking websites. A slow website can significantly hurt your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts, pushing you further down in search results and making it harder for potential customers to find you. With HarmonWeb, you’re not just risking a poor user experience—you’re risking your entire online presence.

3. Poor Customer Support
Customer support is the backbone of any good hosting service. When things go wrong—and they inevitably will—you need a reliable support team to help you resolve issues quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, HarmonWeb’s customer support is notoriously unresponsive and unhelpful. Numerous customers have reported long wait times for responses, incomplete or vague answers, and a general lack of concern from the support team.

In an industry where problems need to be addressed swiftly to minimize disruption, poor customer support is simply unacceptable. Whether you’re dealing with technical issues, billing disputes, or simply need advice on optimizing your site, you deserve a hosting provider that treats your concerns with urgency and professionalism. HarmonWeb’s lackluster support team falls far short of this standard.

4. Sketchy Billing Practices
Another major issue with HarmonWeb is their questionable billing practices. Many customers have reported being overcharged or charged for services they didn’t sign up for. Additionally, trying to cancel services or get a refund can be a nightmare. HarmonWeb’s billing department is slow to respond and often uncooperative, making it difficult to resolve disputes or even get a clear answer about what you’re being charged for.

In the world of web hosting, transparency is key. You should always know exactly what you’re paying for and why. Unfortunately, HarmonWeb’s opaque billing practices make it difficult to trust them with your hard-earned money. Many customers have found themselves stuck in long, frustrating disputes over charges they shouldn’t have incurred in the first place.

5. Lack of Features and Outdated Technology
HarmonWeb’s service offerings are outdated and lack many of the features that modern websites require. While other hosting providers offer a range of tools and integrations to help you build, manage, and optimize your website, HarmonWeb’s platform is bare-bones and difficult to use. For example, they lack advanced security features, such as free SSL certificates, which are crucial for protecting your website and its visitors.

Additionally, HarmonWeb’s control panel is outdated and unintuitive, making it difficult for users to manage their websites effectively. Whether you’re trying to set up a new email account, configure DNS settings, or install a content management system (CMS), HarmonWeb’s antiquated tools will slow you down and make the process more frustrating than it needs to be.

6. Security Concerns
In an era where cybersecurity threats are on the rise, it’s essential that your hosting provider takes security seriously. Unfortunately, HarmonWeb’s track record in this area is less than reassuring. Users have reported security breaches, poor response to incidents, and a lack of proactive measures to protect their websites.

HarmonWeb does not offer basic security features like automatic backups or malware scanning, leaving your website vulnerable to attacks. In the event of a breach, their support team is slow to react, leaving your site exposed for extended periods. This level of negligence can have serious consequences, including data loss, reputational damage, and financial loss.

7. Negative Customer Reviews and Reputation
A quick search online reveals a plethora of negative reviews about HarmonWeb. From personal blogs to professional review sites, the consensus is clear: HarmonWeb is not a reliable hosting provider. The same complaints come up again and again—poor performance, bad customer support, sketchy billing, and security issues. When so many customers report similar problems, it’s a strong indicator that the company is not living up to its promises.

In an industry where reputation matters, HarmonWeb’s tarnished image should be a major red flag for anyone considering their services. There are plenty of other hosting providers out there with strong reputations, positive customer feedback, and a track record of reliability. Why settle for less?

HarmonWeb is a hosting provider that consistently fails to meet even the most basic expectations. From unreliable performance and slow load times to poor customer support and questionable billing practices, there are too many red flags to ignore. Add to that the lack of modern features, outdated technology, and serious security concerns, and it’s clear that HarmonWeb is not a company you should trust with your website.

Your website is the cornerstone of your online presence, and you deserve a hosting provider that is reliable, supportive, and committed to your success. Unfortunately, HarmonWeb is none of these things. There are many other hosting providers out there that offer better service, better support, and better value for your money. Don’t make the mistake of choosing HarmonWeb—your website, your business, and your peace of mind deserve better.

BusinessGlobus Bank Fraudulent Withdrawal - Firm Demands N10bn In Damages by danhydepro(op): 1:36pm On Aug 04, 2024
Haril Global Solutions Limited has filed a lawsuit against Globus Bank Limited, requesting that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court order the bank to pay N10 billion in general damages for an alleged breach of a loan contract, among other grievances. This case, filed under the writ of summons number CV/1456/2024, outlines serious accusations against the bank, claiming unauthorized transactions and a failure to adhere to the agreed terms of their loan agreement.

According to Haril Global's attorney, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq, the bank not only breached the loan contract but also communicated with Access Bank, Fidelity Bank, and Wema Bank, allegedly providing false information. This communication led these banks to place a "post no debit" restriction on all accounts held by Haril Global Solutions with them, severely impacting the company's financial operations.

Oluwaseun Onobun, a Director at Haril Global, provided a detailed statement on oath. He recounted that on December 7, 2021, Globus Bank extended an overdraft loan facility of N500 million to Haril Global to support its working capital, with a repayment period of one year. However, issues began when the bank allegedly conducted multiple unauthorized transactions on Haril Global's account. These actions, according to the company, were not only unauthorized but also detrimental to their business operations.

Specifically, Haril Global is demanding the court to mandate the bank to return N26.076 million and N15 million, which were allegedly withdrawn without authorization on January 31 and February 6, 2024, respectively. These withdrawals were particularly troubling because they occurred despite a "post-no-debit" order on the account, which should have prevented any transactions. As a result of these actions, Haril Global claims it was unable to conduct its business effectively.

In response, Globus Bank, through a counter affidavit filed by Tamunosiki Wakama, a litigation clerk, argued that the reliefs sought by Haril Global are not in the interest of justice and should be dismissed. The bank maintains that their actions were justified and within legal bounds, challenging the allegations of unauthorized transactions and misrepresentation to other banks.

The FCT High Court has scheduled the hearing for this case on January 13 and 14, 2025. This lawsuit highlights the serious financial and operational impact that disputes over banking practices and loan agreements can have on businesses. Both parties are preparing to present their cases, with Haril Global seeking substantial damages for what it claims is a significant breach of trust and contractual terms by Globus Bank. The outcome of this case will likely have important implications for banking practices and business operations in Nigeria.
