It's obvious she's taking advantage of you since you said her husband is well to do ( He must've put her in her place, and so she's transferred her beggarly habit to you.)
You'll require some tact to handle the situation here. I'll suggest you sit your wife down and let her know how you feel, and probably for her to deter her mum from the continued begging otherwise let her know you'd have to handle her mum yourself and damn the consequences.
However, if it comes to that as your last resort, abeg tell her respectfully.

I know people have a certain mindset about loans, i do too. However for most people like me, sometimes a loan saves.

Yesterday,after me and my wife reviewed some things necessary for the home without been paid for the month past at my work, I had to take that loan.

Its sad really, I keep remembering how We had to clear the previous and was bent on not going back, due to the excessive charges

But after calling one or two people some even prefer nor to pick your call.

I made two decisions.

I will take the loan and I will figure out when to start looking for another job.

Not everyone is happy about taking a loan, certainly not me.

But what do you do? When you have got nothing or no one to aid you?
