“Nigeria leads the world in criminal enterprises” – US journalist showers insults on Nigerians grin grin grin grin
http://www.africanspotlight.com/2013/11/14/nigeria-leads-the-world-in-criminal-enterprises-us-journalist-showers-insults-on-nigerians/

A US journalist has hurled a series of insults on Nigerians, just weeks after a US Senator Ted Cruz described Nigerians as scammers in a bid to mock Obamacare website. Ann Coulter in an article titled, ‘To speak to a Nigerian Prince about your healthcare, press ’1′ now,’ says criminals are running the Obamacare website and most of them are inmates and Nigerians. Read excerpts below…

This week we found out that the tens of thousands of “navigators” hired by the government to enroll people in Obamacare will include convicted felons.

Despite some “navigators” having already been exposed as having arrest warrants against them, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has no plans to screen out the criminals.

The problem isn’t their complexion, it’s their culture. In America, we think only dumb people become criminals. That’s not true in the Third World!

Nigeria, for example, leads the world in criminal enterprises. Every level of Nigerian society is criminal, with the smart ones running Internet scams, the mid-range ones running car theft rings, and the stupid ones engaging in piracy and kidnapping. At the University of Lagos, you can major in credit card fraud.

There were almost no Nigerians in the United States until the 1970s. Today, there are nearly 250,000 Nigerians in the U.S. (committing the cyber-crime Americans just won’t do!). In 2011, we took in more immigrants from Nigeria than from the United Kingdom (9,246 from the U.K. and 9,344 from Nigeria).

Gosh, I sure hope our new Somali and Nigerian immigrants have German-style rectitude and are very honest about reporting all their income to the government.

PetroDolla2: Forty (40) Percent of Nigerians in the US Are Criminals - CNN Report grin grin grin grin grin grin
Written by The Punch

Nigerians in North America have rejected a recent report by the Cable Network News, claiming that 40 per cent of Nigerians in the United States of America were criminals. The Nigerians, operating under the All Nigerian-American Congress, said such stereotyping of Nigerians did not reflect the true situation of Nigerians in the US.

The group’s position on the documentary, “How to rob a bank”, was made known in an e-mail sent to our correspondent on Thursday. The mail, jointly signed by the ANAC’s Chairman, Information and Public Affairs, Mr Paul Oranika, and President, Chief Temitope Ajayi, described the report as false and typical of biased reporting of African issues by the western media.

The group’s position was reached at a national tele-conference organised by ANAC soon after the programe was aired between May 20 and 21. It regretted that the western media refused to see anything good in Africans, but would look for ways to portray them in bad light.

The group said, “ Historically, the western news media focus on negative news when it comes to news coverage of Africa and its people. Such issues as war, famine, hunger, genocide, natural disaster, disease, fraud and mismanagement remain the sole focus of news coverage of Africa and its people.

“What is baffling is that the African community in North America has been content in allowing the western media to define them to the world through these negative news reports.

“In addition African embassies and consulates have failed to take leadership position in challenging some of the false and negative coverage given to Africa and its people.”

PetroDolla2: Nigerian 'baby factories' bring profits and pain grin
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/09/08/nigerian-baby-factories-bring-profits-and-pain/

The proprietor of Nigeria's Moonlight Maternity Clinic was not interested in discussing allegations that he sells newborn babies, with boys fetching higher prices than the girls.

"I have nothing to say to you," Ben Akpudache, a stout 74-yeard-old, told AFP at the small, dimly lit clinic with concrete floors tucked between commercial shops in the southeastern city of Enugu.

"I can't just have people coming in and asking questions."

"Doctor" Akpudache, whose medical credentials are under question, had his clinic raided in July after a three-month sting operation in which the security forces discovered a so-called baby factory grin.

"We had our people posing as if they wanted to buy a child," Nigeria's Civil Defence Corps (NCDC) spokesman Denny Iwuckukwu told AFP.

Police had separately stormed his home in May, where they discovered that babies were also for sale.

The "factories" are usually small facilities parading as private medical clinics that house pregnant women and offer their children for sale. In some cases, young women have allegedly been held against their will and raped, with their newborns sold on the black market. grin grin grin

But security services say the majority of cases, including that of the Moonlight clinic, have seen unmarried women with unplanned pregnancies arrive voluntarily or through persuasion.

Their newborns are then sold for several thousand dollars, with boys fetching higher prices. The mother receives roughly $200 (150 euros).

Typical was Ebere Onwuchekwa, 29, who became emotional when asked about the sale of her son Prosper.

Speaking at the office of a child rights NGO, she said the father demanded she get an abortion, illegal in Nigeria, and she refused. Her mother ultimately brought in a "midwife", who delivered the baby then sold him for $1500.

"She took him away... He was a day old," said Onwuchekwa.

After learning what happened, her uncles tracked Prosper down and got him back. The 18-month-old sat quietly on his mother's lap as she spoke.

When asked about the woman who sold her son, a resentful Onwuchekwa said "she doesn't want me to say anything about what happened".

As for Akpudache, he is out on bail and his facility, which he insisted in a brief, tense encounter was a "registered maternity clinic", remains opens.

Authorities said it was not been shut down because they were waiting for the courts to take action, though the NCDC spokesman insisted Akpudache would face justice.

"Human beings should not be sold like animals," said Iwuckukwu.

When police stormed Akpudache's expansive, three-storey home in Ogui Eke village, roughly an hour outside Enugu, they found six pregnant young women.

In a video provided to AFP by the Enugu police, one of the women said she wanted to continue studying, not struggle as a single mother. Akpudache's offer to host her through the pregnancy then sell the newborn seemed a solution.

In the same video, Akpudache said he was just trying to "help people in need".

Despite a 2003 law against human trafficking, including selling children, it is Nigeria's third most common crime behind fraud and drug trafficking, the United Nations has said. The European Union has cited Nigeria as the African country where the scourge is most common.

The maximum sentence is life in prison but sentencing remains at the judges' discretion and offenders can get away with just a fine.

Baby trafficking, in particular, has intensified in the southeast, which is populated mainly by the Igbo ethnic group. The NCDC has several ongoing undercover operations targeting suspected baby trafficking rings in Enugu, underscoring the severity of the problem in this region.

The reasons given for why this "baby" market has developed here vary widely.

Some fear newborns are being sold to witchdoctors for rituals in a country where occult practices still occur. Some say fraudsters in the region had simply found another reliable way to earn cash.

But the security forces and activists said the majority of buyers are likely married couples struggling to conceive.

Oby Nwankwo, who spent years as a magistrates court judge in the southeast, said Igbo customs that place huge importance on male children may also play a role.

Widows and daughters have faced massive obstacles when trying to inherit family resources after the death of a patriarch, explained Nwankwo, also a member of a UN committee on discrimination against women (CEDAW).

If you want to gauge how badly Nigerians have been animalized, then pay attention to how, and where, many of them defecate. Just recently, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported that 33 million Nigerians have no access to decent toilets. As a consequence, said the report, these citizens of Africa’s most populous nation answer the call of nature in the open.

Is it really only 33 million Nigerians? One is afraid that here’s one occasion when statisticians have pegged the figure too low. Nigeria – as I wrote three years ago – may be described as one vast toilet. Anybody who has traveled from Lagos to Onitsha by road knows that there isn’t one single rest area with toilet facilities along the route. At stops in Ore or Benin City, pressed passengers must hurry off into the brushes, gingerly skating around others’ feces, in order to relieve themselves.

In Ndibe’s eyes the “habit of doing in public what ought to be done in private” points to a deep cultural crisis.

Long habituated to inhuman conditions, many Nigerians have ceased noticing those peeing or defecating in the open. Or, when we notice, too many of us have lost our sense of outrage at the oddity. Public acts of pissing and defecation have become – more or less – normal, part and parcel of our social experience and landscape.

The associated health risks of Nigeria’s insanitary conditions have made Ndibe feel uneasy about shaking hands.

For me, it’s often a dilemma. I know how scandalous it would be to refuse to offer one’s hand. Yet, I can’t help wondering where the hands I shake have been, and whether they’ve been washed.

Ndibe retells an revealing anecdote about local government staff who staunchly opposed a plan to build staff toilets. They told the local government administrator to “just give them a share of the public funds – and to leave it up to them to decide on toilet matters”.

Food stampede kills 20 in Nigeria grin grin

This is the third time in the past four years that a stampede occurred in the state while distributing food, money and local fabrics among residents. grin

Up to 20 people have been reportedly killed and many injured in a stampede during an annual event to distribute food and gifts to poor people in central Nigeria.

Witnesses said that the stampede occurred during the event held by the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) near the home of Nigerian Senator Bukola Saraki in Ilorin, the capital city of the central Kwara state.

Medics at Sobi Specialist Hospital confirmed to Anadolu Agency that they counted up to 20 fatalities brought from the Ile Loke, the political courtyard of Senator Saraki.

This is the third time in the past four years that a stampede occurred in the state while distributing food, money and local fabrics among residents.

"The figure being reported falls far short of the reality," Muhyideen Abubakar, who attended the event, told AA.

"I counted up to 20 people who died. That is besides the many who were taken to hospitals. Some of them have been confirmed dead and some remain in critical condition."

But PDP spokesman Masiud Adebimpe insisted that only four people died in the stampede.

"We regret that four of our party members died in the stampede while those injured are being treated in the hospital," he told AA.

A source said the stampede occurred on Wednesday night through Thursday morning but "the Sarakis and the government have tried to suppress it in the media or play down the figures."

"The deaths have become an annual ritual here," the source told AA on condition of anonymity.

"Many years ago, it happened, it then stopped and then resumed in the past four years. Tongues are waggling but what can we do? We are helpless but God is most powerful and all knowing."

Senator Saraki's leadership is disputed by many opposition politicians and intellectuals who accuse the Saraki family - whose patriarch Olusola Saraki died last year after 40 years of dictating the state politics - of running patronage political system that thrives based on giving handouts to the poor masses while leaving the state underdeveloped.
Kwara politics is known nationwide to be strange and peculiar with a family deciding its direction for years.

Kwara is among Nigeria's poorest states and is believed to rank among the lowest in terms of human capital potentials.

Women and youths often queue in the central state to collect money at the Saraki's place almost every other week in return for political allegiance to the political dynasty.
