For a moment she tried to pull away from me, then she slowly put her hands around my shoulders, drawing her face closer our lips met. I woke up feeling hot. The bright light of dawn penetrating through the curtains filled the large rooms. For a moment I could not recall where I was, turning to my side I saw Estabalíz. She slept curled up one arm above her chest. Her eyes were closed, youthfulness shining with its brilliant glow on her face. Bring myself up on my elbow, watching her I marveled that she could look so young and innocent. Sleep had smoothened the lines of weary on her face and softened her face. She looked more child-like than ever, but I feared that last night was only an accident and when she opened her eyes she would have recovered. It was her eyes that gave a hint of her character. They were the openings through which you could see her determined spirit. Her mouth moved as if she were talking. She moaned softly and her fingers clenched and unclenched. She slept like a woman who lived like she had no worries. I lowered her arms from her chest. She sighed heavily and reaching out, she put her arms around me and gripped me tightly. 'Darling,' she murmured, 'please don’t leave me.' She was half asleep. Perhaps she was still dreaming and not speaking to me. Stretching herself on the bed she sat up and flopped back on her pillow. 'Hello,' she said. 'what time is it?' She asked half yawning. I looked at the wall clock. It was eight-thirty in the morning. Relaxing back on the bed, 'I have an appointment by ten, you don't have to worry I will drive myself.' She said. 'Do you still have to leave today?' 'Yes'. I said. Trying to figure out where she was going with this question. 'Does all this mean anything to you?' Marley looked at Estabalíz, a puzzled expression in his eyes. 'Where do you plan on going?' 'I am moving to Spain.' Have u got your papers? She asked looking intently at me. 'I will get them when I get to Spain.' 'If you plan on smuggling to Spain,' she looked at me then went on, 'there are joint maritime patrols backed up by a sophisticated radar system that will detect boats leaving Morocco’s Mediterranean coast, just nine miles away from Spain at its closest, and tip-off the police. So consider that a dead end.' 'But I do have a better proposal for you.' She curled down in the bed. “Mmmmm,” she sighed. 'How would you like to pick up five hundred thousand dollars ?' I looked at her with raised eyebrows, but the cold and flat expression in her eyes told me she was dead serious. Never in my life have I dreamt of having such money and the thought of it alone almost suffocated me. 'Don't test me, Estabalíz cause I will murder the president of the United States of America for even half that sum.' |
For the past three days, I have been trying to make up my mind whether to stay or to quit. 'Miss Estabalíz I have decided to quit'. He said with undivided attention from the road. 'I will be leaving tomorrow'. She felt like a shock wave has been passed through her body, and after long minutes of silence adjusting in her seat, she asked. 'Did you get a better job?' 'No'. 'So why are you leaving me high and dry at a time like this?' She asked accusably. Taking my eyes off the road I looked searchingly at her. As if in answer to the question in my mind. 'I was fired'. She said in an effusive manner. 'You are the most brilliant woman I have ever seen and if they don't recognize you to hell with them there are a thousand banks who will have you'. 'You are the most brilliant woman I have ever seen sounded like music in her ears'. She couldn't remember when last she was praised that much. But these were just overstated words, in There was never going to be a job anywhere for her. 'The shade of a dollar is the perfect shade.' She looked at him from the rear mirror. For the first time in five years, she was aware of his kind eyes, broad chest and all this melted into a charm when he smiled: it was a friendly and sincere smile that softened his face and made Estabalíz wonder why she never noticed him. Medina district was just a short drive from Attijariwafa bank. When they finally reached the house he drove in. It was a 3 bedroom luxury riad, with its stunning rooftop terrace and relaxing soaking pool. A luxury that was far beyond the scale of her salary. One room was used by Marely, the master bedroom to Estabalíz and the last room was left on used. 'I am about to take a shower, fix us something to eat'. Estabalíz said before getting out of the car. Dinner was eaten in peace and serenity. After dinner walking over to the bar Estabalíz served herself two shots of whiskey, she gulped the content as if they were an elixir to immortality. 'Would you like a drink?' She asked. I crossed over to the bar and mixed myself a drink. After a few more shots of whiskey, she felt heavy. Please, help me to my room. We entered the room and she switches on the lights. Well, here we are I said and I could see she was a little sensual. She stood with her face close to mine, her eyes looking directly into mine. we stayed like that for a few seconds every person able to feel the breathing of the other. My hands found the upper part of her arm. Her arms were soft and nice. My fingers met round them. |
On this harshly sunny afternoon, living in Morocco was like living in hell. sitting at the right-hand side of a Toyota Corolla 2019 model, Adams Marley, chauffeur to the Branch manager of Attijariwafa bank, wife of a narcotraficante in Mexico, reviewed the Al-Alam newspaper headlines with disinterest. He felt life has kept him waiting for long. He glanced at the entrance to the bank and was glad his boss wasn't the one coming out. Relaxing back in his driver seat, he contemplated if he should quit his job. With five years' service as a chauffeur behind him, Marley, aged thirty-seven had good reason to be angry at the life he led. Not only did he work as a chauffeur but he also had been practically used as a chef, launder and every other thing his boss needs. Marley was a tall, slim built man, his face was long and thick with beards with benign but shrewd eyes. As Marley was thinking that last night football match between FUS rabat and Wayad Casablanca which ended 1 nil in favor of FUS Rabat was a fixed match, he saw his boss come out of the bank accompanied by a bank security officer carrying a paper case. Marley saddened. His boss was the bane of his existence. One moment he had tranquility and Serenity: the next moment his boss would dispirit the air as nothing else could. Getting out of the car to open the car back door for Miss Estíbaliz Rodríguez. Miss Estíbaliz Rodríguez was the branch manager of Attijariwafa bank. Rodríguez was a tall woman dressed in a black suit down to the ground. She looked more like a contestant in miss world than what she was: the artful, ruthless manager of the biggest bank in Morocco, a woman who's burning ambition to reach a position in life has led her to a life of crime, there was no other smarter woman in Morocco. It was frustrating to know that this was the last time she would ever work out this building as the Branch Manager. Settling in her utterly new corolla, her mind clouded with the frustrating prospect of her future. The odds were against her, she could not continue living a life of luxury and extravagance without her job, and that lifestyle she is not willing to give up. Opening the car door Marely sighed. Estíbaliz depleted look troubled him, he sensed there was trouble. 'Good evening, ma' I greeted. still holding the car door open. She glanced at me and nodded in acknowledgment of my greeting, then she got into the car. to a life of crime, there was no other smarter woman in Morocco. SYNOPSIS 'Miss Estabalíz, you should be in jail presently other than sitting in my office staring at my face.' He said with the show of much anger. She grinned at him. 'We are all thieves in this world, with the bigger thieves crucifying the smaller one.' Estabalíz said softly, 'and there is no gain in me going to jail.' 'One thousand accounts with no owners.' he paused then went on, 'how long have you been on this?' 'It doesn't matter now.' She paused, then went on, 'all I want is ten percent and we go our separate ways.' 'You wouldn't get a penny from me.' He hesitated for some seconds, 'all I am willing to offer you is your freedom and it's the best gift a man can get.' |
