Nigerian parents expect their daughters to get married someday. However, one thing they are particular about is the kind of man their daughter(s) bring home as a future husband.
With more 250 ethnic groups with Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa leading the pack, the expectations may be different but they are interwoven and almost similar. These presumptions are largely influenced by culture, religion, heritage, and exposure of the families involved.

We are in very trying times in Nigeria. A time when many think God has forsaken us, a time many are also asking “Where is God?”; I’ve heard Christians ask “Why is God silent over the predicament of our nation?” I want to tell you that in spite of all our challenges God still loves us with a perfect love; He has not forsaken or abandoned us. There was never a time He stopped loving us, even if all other nations forsake us God will not. The question was asked in the scriptures… “Who shall separate us from the love of God?” Is it when we have trouble, tribulation or distress, persecution, famine, poverty or in danger, when we are threatened with death, has God deserted us? The answer is NO, for Nothing can ever separate us from the love of God. Not even sin can separate us from God’s love because He sent His Son Jesus to die and set us free from the bondage of sin. Jesus took the punishment for my sin and yours and declared us not guilty. Who then will condemn us, Will Christ? No! for He is the one who died for us and came back to life again for us and is sitting at the right hand of God, pleading for us there in heaven. Overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us enough to die for us. All you need do is open your heart to this love (JESUS) God sent to us. In Jerusalem there was a pool called Bethesda with five platforms surrounding it. Crowds of sick people –the lame, blind, paralyzed lay on the platforms waiting for a certain movement of the water, for an angel of the Lord came from time to time and disturbed the water, and the first person to step down into it afterwards was healed. One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty eight years, his sickness being caused by his sin. When Jesus saw him and knew how long he had been ill He had mercy on him. I believe some sort of business must have been going on at the pool, where some people monitored the exact moment the water moved to quickly get in the sick person who must have paid them for the service. This man had neither money nor a helper. Since it was his sin that made him sick, maybe he was a well known armed robber, rapist, homosexual, etc. whatever his sin was, people may have also despised and ignored him because they knew him as a sinner. But Jesus didn’t ignore him; he showed him mercy. He told Jesus, he had no one to help him get into the pool at the stirring of the water. Jesus then said to him “stand up, roll up your sleeping mat and go home! Instantly, the man was healed, he rolled up his mat and began walking. I thought He should be the one to judge and condemn the man – NO, Jesus came to set sinners free from the bondage of sin and offer them a new life of holiness and righteousness, His own very life- have you been set free from the bondage of sin? If no, cry out to Jesus and certainly He will hear and answer you. It was on Sabbath when the miracle was done. So the Jewish leaders objected that the man should carry his mat on the Sabbath day, for on Sabbath days no one was allowed to do any work, so they told him it was illegal to carry his sleeping mat. He answered them: “The man who healed me told me to carry my mat”. “Who said such a thing as that” they demanded. The man didn’t know, and Jesus had disappeared into the crowd. Afterwards, Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, “Now you are well; don’t sin as you did before or something even worse may happen to you.” The man went to find the Jewish leaders and told them it was Jesus who had healed him. So they persecuted Jesus and sought to kill Him, but Jesus replied “My father has been working until now, and I have been working” then the Jewish leaders were all the more eager to kill him. Jesus showed the sick man mercy, but his own priests don’t even love him, they weren’t happy that a man who was sick for 38 years received his healing. God will show Nigeria mercy in spite of her enemies of progress. You and I have a crucial part to play for this to be. We may reckon Nigeria to be in the state of the sick man needing help. Only Jesus can bring about the change we hope for. The good news is that Jesus who showed the sick man mercy is still at work; He hasn’t stopped working, He can’t stop showing love, His love is unconditional and has no end, it is everlasting. Jesus loves Nigeria. Yes, He hates the sin that brings separation from God, disgrace and downfall, so He died to set us free from our sin and is very willing to heal our land. He is not condemning us, but wants to heal us and save us if we are willing. Our sin is great- the constant killing, corruption, stealing, child molestation and rape, homosexuality, prostitution, fornication, adultery, idolatry, hatred, fighting, prejudice etc, but His love is greater. Sin cannot separate us from God’s love if we receive and believe in Jesus, whom He sent to set us free. Note that Jesus looked for the man after He healed him and told him what to do to remain healed and enjoy his life- he is to sin no more. That is love, not leaving him without the knowledge of what will sustain his healing and make him enjoy life. Knowing this; God loves us and desires to bring us out of our present predicament as a nation. He who did not withhold His own Son from us, but gave Him up for us, won’t He also give us everything else? We have to allow Jesus to help us, for there is no help anywhere except in Jesus Christ; He is the one that will show us the way forward. You and I are the Nigerians to be set free from our sin and be healed. Let us ask God for what we need. First is -the salvation of our individual souls, and the resolve to walk with Him. If we are saved Nigeria is saved, if we are healed Nigeria is healed. You are Nigeria, I am Nigeria- our acts build or bring down NIGERIA. Therefore pray like this: Lord Jesus I acknowledge that I have sinned against you and gone my own way, please show me mercy, set me free from the bondage of sin and give me a new life, the life of holiness and righteousness, heal me of every sickness, infirmity and predicament as a result of my sin, help me to walk with you all the days of my life-Amen. To grow in your faith, please study the Bible daily and also fellowship with Godly people around you. As you continue to grow in your faith, Nigeria will be receiving the illuminating Light of God to save us from our sin and heal our land

Physically fit students tend to outscore their peers who are less-fit on academic tests, according to a new report from New York City’s Health Department and Department of Education (DOE). The observation comes from an analysis of data from NYC FITNESSGRAM, the comprehensive fitness assessment that New York City public school students participate in each year as part of their physical education instruction.
The analysis also shows that childhood obesity remains prevalent in New York City – a finding that underscores the urgent need to ensure that school-age children receive nutritious meals, high-quality physical education, and ample opportunities for physical activity.
Fitness has been proven to promote a longer, healthier life. Although these new findings do not demonstrate a direct cause-and-effect relationship, they do show a strong association between fitness and academic success. During the 2007-2008 school year, students who scored in the top 5% on their NYC FITNESSGRAM assessments outscored the bottom 5% by an average of 36 percentile points on standardized academic tests.
The new report also examines childhood obesity in New York City. The findings suggest that 21% of kindergarten through eighth grade students are obese, and an additional 18% of the City’s students are overweight.
Childhood obesity increases a child’s risk of developing diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and high cholesterol – all potentially lifelong health problems – as well as heart disease and cancer during adulthood. “When four out of 10 school kids are overweight or obese, the city has a problem,” said Dr. Thomas Farley, New York City Health Commissioner. “We know that physical activity can combat obesity and its health consequences. This report suggests that healthy, active kids also learn better.”
“The long-term health of our students is very important,” said Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein. “The report’s findings send a clear message to schools, parents and healthcare providers to do everything possible to ensure that children receive the opportunities for physical activity and the proper nutrition that will help them stay fit and healthy.”

Well, it does, and you would be surprised to see how much. Neatly plucked brows open up the eyes, and make them look larger and more prominent. They also make your face look cleaner, and your features stronger. Many models I know swear by the difference a well plucked brow makes.
Stick to the same beautician. If someone knows your brows and gives you a shape you like, make sure you stick to her, and don't keep changing your beautician.
If you do not have access to a beautician for whatever reason, or if you are living outside India and find it too expensive to get your brows threaded every ten days, shell out the money to get it threaded once, and from then on, thread your brows regularly by yourself.
Take it slow and easy when plucking your brows, so make sure you have plenty of time. There is no cause for hurry, and if you rush, you may over pluck, ruining the shape. If your brows are shaped unevenly, your eyes can also look a little warped. Yes, it's true. It's all about optical illusion. One eye will suddenly start looking smaller than the other, or higher than the other ... or even crooked! You don't want that, do you?
Pluck your brows immediately after a hot shower, or immediately after steaming your face. You could also apply a hot towel to your brows for a few moments before plucking them. If you have been regular with plucking and have just a few hairs to pluck, you needn't apply steam, but if there is a lot of hair that has to go, steam softens it up and opens your pores, so the hair will come out easily without hurting you too much. Apply a little moisturizer to your eyebrows so the hair slides out.
If you are starting to pluck your brows by yourself from scratch, start slowly. Leave the super-thin brows for later ... much later, once you have perfected the art of brow plucking. The first time around simply concentrate on getting them clean and even. Start by combing your brows with an eyebrow brush. Then, identify the area from where your brow stops going upward. A little ahead, you will see another spot from where your brow starts dipping downwards. This is where you can give yourself a little arch by dipping down from that spot.
How much space should be left between the brows. Take a pencil or ruler and hold it straight up along the side of each nose. All the hair on the inner side of the pencil should go. The brow should start from the outside edge of the pencil.
After plucking your brows, apply some toner or astringent to the area to close pores. You could also apply some calamine lotion to sooth the area.
Tip
Did you know that your eyebrows could make you look younger Yes, that's true. If you want to take a few years off your face, simply take an eyebrow pencil and darken your brows, especially the beginning of your brow, next to the bridge of your nose. Exercise is an activity necessary to keep the body healthy & fit no matter the physique of the person involved except there is a special case of disability.
Apart from being fit, there are other benefits of exercising & these include the cardiovascular health, muscular health in terms of contractility & resistance to stress. Others are mood elevation, stress reduction, agility etc.
Often times, people say that the gym is for the fat ones and because they are slim, they are fit. This is where the question arises - Who Needs to Exercise?

Looking from the physiological perspective, a fat non-exerciser & a slim non-exerciser share the same potential risk of suffering a bad health condition. This was observed in a study published in "The International Journal of Obesity" by a London-based team, to ascertain the levels of heart clogging cholesterol (LDL - Low Density Lipoproteins) in lean & obese non-exercisers. The study found that lean & obese exercisers maintained good levels of LDL. But those in lean & obese non-exercisers were similar & higher.
It is therefore seen that to maintain a healthy heart, one has to achieve aerobic fitness or be involved in other forms of exercise like cycling, jogging etc. THE benefits of exercise does not just end with maintaining a normal weight, studies suggest that even slim people need to exercise as much as every other person to maintain a good level of LDL cholesterol & stay healthy. PEOPLE who don't exercise, whether fat or slim have bad level of LDL cholesterol & are not as fit as exercisers.

Body odor is never pleasant, from the person who has to go through the torture of having to stand the smell to the person that actually suffers from it. It is easily noticed in a crammed place, on in a stuffy commercial bus, on the queue or in a busy shopping centre: the smell of stale sweat.

Researchers state that men sweat more than women, so often times they are more susceptible, if they have poor personal hygiene. In the true sense no one is exempted from body odor, whether it is an offensive or lingering fragrance from scented body spray.



Causes
Body odor or bromhidrosis is the smell of a particular kind of bacteria that grows on the body. Body odor is caused by bacteria when it mixes with sweat and not by sweat itself.

It grows when it comes in contact with sweat and decomposes it, causing an unpleasant smell. The body odor of a person can be linked with a lot of factors such as gender, genetics, health, diet, side effects of medication and so on. Some of the areas that are associated with body odor are underarms (“armpit”), feet, anus, pubic hair and skin.



Prevention and Control
Body odor can be prevented and controlled in a lot of ways by simply adhering to some basic rules of body hygiene and paying attention to the troubled spots where the odor comes from.

• Make the use of antiperspirants and deodorants a constant routine. If you sweat a lot use a Roll on, cover your entire armpit area and then carry the roll on with you and reapply as the day progresses. You can also go along with a deodorant spray as well, spray you under arms and clothes during the course of the day. You can go shopping for Antiperspirant that works well for you, since most of the products contain different active ingredients, and you'll find some work better than others.

• Another useful tip is to shave your underarms regularly. Hairs in the underarms provide a greater surface area for sweat to adhere to and give the bacteria a fertile breeding ground.

• It is also essential to wash clothes thoroughly to remove sweat residue and kill the bacteria that may have been transferred from the skin to the clothes; particularly clothing that comes into contact with sweaty areas such as socks, underwear and shirts.

• Never wear yesterday's clothes. However clean your body is, the clothes will retain the smell of yesterday's sweat. Do not repeat the same outfit without washing it first.

• Take your bath twice a day to control the sweat.




Remedy
Here are some quick home remedy for underarm odor, first dilute a little vinegar in water, Dip cotton wool in to it and then clean over the underarm area. Please do not add vinegar to a freshly shaved skin. Dilute baking soda (not baking powder) with water and rub it on to the underarm.

Ladies, no matter the age, love wearing glasses heels nothing compares to a nice pair of well fitted heel shoes. It helps to accentuate the legs, makes it look longer- gives the body a slender look making you look taller. However prolonged use of heels particularly when worn for a whole day can cause a lot of pain and make your feet and legs hurt terribly.
Here is a myth buster for ladies on the short side, wearing higher heels does not help you increase your height, if the heels of your shoes are too high you may find it difficult to walk in them and get through with your day- am believe me- if your feet hurts, it will likely show in your expression- wearing heels for too long puts undue pressure on the balls and bones in the front of our feet.
The good news is that wearing heels is not an impossible task- the tip is to apply wisdom when doing so.
Hear are some tips that will show you how to wear heels comfortably (at least)
• When buying a pair of heels, buy the pair that fits just right and one that is a size bigger have your feet measured before you buy any new pair. Make sure your toes have enough room to breathe in and move.
• Try wearing a short heel occasionally- do not go for the highest heel possible- for example a two inch heel will cause less discomfort than a four inch heel. Short heels with stilettos give you the same effect or carriage as a 4/6 inch heel.
• Go for the right size – cushion it, particularly around the balls of the feet, for easy comfort, the reason for this necessity is that most heels don’t come with cushions, so cushioning it helps it balance the weight of the body comfortably around the balls of the feet- without strain.
• Do the peep toe and the round toe shoes instead of the pointy ones that causes discomfort around the toe, squashing the big toe inward; causing pain in the joint which often causes bunions (swelling on the toes) - the peep toe heel shoes are quite fashionably these days and can be worn in most work environment-the round toes heel shoes gives your toes room to spread naturally-making strutting in heels a delight and comfortably too.
• Wear your high heels only when you will not be expected to be on your feet for a long period of time. Limit the use of your heel shoes to only occasions and special events- switch every now and then to flat shoes mostly when you are wearing pants and jeans trousers. Avoid traveling in heels especially if you are going by road, also driving with heels is very dangerous as you8r feet may slip from the pedal while driving- use flat shoes while driving and keep your heels in your bag or in the car; you can make the switch as soon as you reach your destination.
• Some folks believe that high heels should be a size smaller for easy balance- the truth is buying a size smaller puts your feet through necessary torture, even if the shoe is a size bigger- you can use shoe cups (shoe pad) that fit into the base of your feet which will give your feet a firm grip and meet up to the original shoe size.
Finally, never lend or borrow shoes even if it is for a few seconds- several bacterial infections can be transferred from one person to another this way. Word of caution- no matter how appealing. These high heeled shoes are- the feet you are using to wear them is attached to your body; you can replace a faulty pair of shoes in a split second, but the damage that it causes to your feet may last for a life time.
The key word here is moderation!

Fitness trainers and coaches see people making the same mistakes over and over when they're starting an exercise program. Probably the biggest mistake people make is setting unrealistic goals. They expect dramatic results and they get disappointed. If you've spent the last 10, 15, or even 20 years being out of shape, don't expect to get back in shape overnight.
Here are some common mistakes that people make when they start a new exercise program:

1. Not drinking enough water -
Water is the magic elixir of the body. For most of us it is the only fluid we need to drink. Everyone should drink at least eight - 8 ounce glasses of water every day. If you're over 200 pounds, you should drink at least 12.

2. Not warming up prior to any exercise activity -
Our muscles need time to adjust to the new demands we will be putting on them with an exercise program. Start with a few minutes of light aerobic exercise before you go into your exercise routine, whether it's aerobics or strength training.

3. Not cooling down after any type of exercise -
Don't just finish your workout and head for the showers. Take a few minutes to do some easy, slow exercises to lower your heart rate and stretch your muscles. Abruptly stopping strenuous exercise without lowering your heart rate can be very dangerous.

4. Not stretching enough -
You should stretch before and after any exercise activity. Flexible muscles will be less likely to be strained than if they are tight. As mentioned above, take a few minutes to warm up first.

5. Exercising too intently or not intently enough -
Don't try to fit an entire week's worth of exercise into one day on the weekend. Of course you want results, so you do have to push yourself some. You need to exercise intensely enough that you work up a little sweat if you're working with weights. Actually, to make progress with strength training you need to work each muscle to failure - where you feel you can't do any more of that particular exercise. If your doing aerobic exercise, get your heart beating within your training zone.

6. Lifting too much weight -
This is a more common mistake with men. We think that the heavier the weight we lift, the more progress we will make. This is a great way to guarantee an injury. Start with a weight you can handle and gradually increase the amount as your muscles adapt.

7. Jerking while lifting weights -
This often goes hand in hand with the previous mistake of lifting too much weight. You need to be able to control the weight you are lifting. If you are jerking the weight, you probably have too much weight and you are bound to pull some muscles or strain something

8. Picking a program because it's "in" -

DRESS SENSE FOR MEN WITH STYLE
Some guys are naturally stylish while some see it as girlish to be caught in the boutique shopping. Some are limited by budget, but a simple guide on what to purchase, where and how is necessary. It is better to invest in essential wardrobe pieces that will carry you through; that is office wear, events, dinner functions and casual outings.
A good dressing sense can do wonders with the right kind of fashion, cut and color. One also should be particular about the comfort level despite the fashion, adding confidence which corroborates to a high self image. Basically that is what this article is about. And need I say that you don’t have to worry about spending too much to look up to date and at the same time trendy too. Let’s start with the aspect of clothes first;

Men's Clothes

1. Suits:

When purchasing a suit, go all out for navy or dark colored suit- because it serves dual purposes- in the sense that, it is appropriate for day time activities like work and occasions. In most business settings, the classic professional look for a man is a navy blue or medium-grey wool or wool blend suit, a white stiff-collared dress shirt, and a simple patterned or striped tie. This would serve a man well at any formal setting.
A more high-styled version of this would be a blue shirt, a brighter, more distinctive tie or matching pocket handkerchief. The navy colored suit has slimming and flattering effect on practically any body shape. The suit can be worn over a pair of jeans with a white dress shirt, or any other item in your wardrobe. With the suit you are well covered whether for an interview, an evening or cocktail party.

2. A Dress Shirt:

A dress shirt is a must have for every guy’s ward robe. Dress shirts should be cotton or cotton blend. These materials look more professional than silk or synthetic fabrics, and they breathe better. Collars should be plain, and either button-down, or thick and stiff.
The most professional look consistently has been a mid-length pointed collar. Pick out colors like blue and white, because these colors pair up with practically every item in your wardrobe, a black shirts work well with a lighter colored tie. White shirts offer a wider array of choices, as anything goes with white. Fashionable colors include all shades of brown, slate blues, navy blues, pale blues, black, and pure white. These color choices are easy to work with and very versatile.
A pale brown shirt will look fantastic with a chocolate brown tie. Mix a gray shirt with a slate blue tie and you will look amazing. It is advisable to start with a neutral shades and then add complementary colors later. Each shirt in the wardrobe does not need to be of the same outline, design or color. There should be a little variation.
One should keep in mind that designs are dependent of fabrics. Always wear an undershirt to cover perspiration and transparency. Men's dress shirts should be long-sleeved. French cuffs are considered trendy and formal — if you do wear this type of shirt wear them with simple gold, silver or stone cufflinks. Your shirt should be long enough that at least one, or preferably two buttons fall below the belt line. This will keep the shirt from coming untucked.
Collars should be loose enough to put two fingers comfortably between the collar and your neck, but not so loose that they show any significant space between the collar and your neck when you stand.

3. Casual Wears:

For a smart casual wear, you can’t go wrong with a Polo shirt- It does not have to be a designer piece, so you don’t have to worry about causing a dent in your budget. An inexpensive one will just about create the same effect as long as it sits well on you.
The effect of a polo shirt on jeans is dazzling, when it is just the right size and it fits properly. On weekends the polo shirt is an amazing choice for a causal outing. - For a semi formal outing, a blazer on top the shirt is all you need to create an ensemble that exudes elegance and style.




The next aspect I would like to look in to is the male physique; most men are at a loss when it comes to shopping for their clothes, majorly because of their body size. And this affects the way they dress and their appearance, here are some ideas on how to shop for clothes that fit properly.

Dress Style for Big Men

Due to their big body size, most men opt to dress in baggy clothing thinking they can hide their big frame with loose clothing. The truth is baggy clothing actually makes you look bigger than you probably are.
One of the most important aspects in dressing is the color; it can give you a slimmer look or bigger look depending on the color you chose. Stripes area no go area for you. Dark colors like-black, chocolate brown, charcoal, navy blue, and dark gray-offer a more slimming look. You get to wear fashionable trends while also appearing slimmer. Make sure your suit jacket and shirt are similar in color. Contrasting hues draw attention to the point in which they meet. The point at which the colors meet will create a line that adds the appearance of bulk.
When purchasing a suit jacket (and every man needs at least one jacket), look for two-button suit jackets in dark colors. Once again, the dark colors are more slimming. In addition, a two-button suit creates a streamlined look that makes your waist and stomach look tapered and trim. Do not buy a jacket that is too loose. A loose appearance will add the appearance of weight. You also need to avoid purchasing clothing that fits too snugly. Clothing should fit comfortably with no more than an inch of space at any given point.
Stick to small vertical patterns that make the torso appear longer and slimmer. Always rely on vertical patterns and never horizontal patterns. Stripes that are horizontal add a round look and can make you look a lot heavier than you are. The same applies with buttons and zippers choose small, narrow fasteners.
Any fabric with a bright sheen will make you appear larger than you are. Stick to clothing that has a brushed appearance without any shine.
If you have a chubby, round face, do not purchase turtlenecks. Turtlenecks can make you look heavy in the neck area. Instead, choose shirts with angled v-necks or leave the top couple of buttons on a dress shirt undone so that it creates an angle that makes the neck and face look slim. Sticking to these basic rules can turn a rotund man into someone looking svelte. Just remember vertical lines, dark colors, and similar shades, and you will look great!

Dress Style for Slim Men

Just as the plus size men have serious issues finding a fashionable look that is suitable for them, men who are on the slim side also experience just about the same difficulties. Lean men prefer to look bigger than they actually are without appearing sloppy. The good news, to pull off that kind of appearance, here is what you need to do.
First and foremost, never purchase baggy clothing. You will wind up looking lost in the outfit and that makes you look slimmer than you actually are. You need to choose pants that fit snugly without being tight. Slim, non-tapered pant legs work well. Low-rise pants look great. The snug fit will accentuate your lower half and definitely draw attention. Avoid any jeans with boot cut legs or flared legs as they make you appear to be drowning in your clothing.
