Education / Re: NUC Approves Doctor Of Pharmacy Degree by Dannysmart(m): 11:49am On Sep 17, 2016
Hmmmmmmmn....... We all profess professionalism but nothing to show for it. What would a patient think after seeing the unending war going on within those he's giving over his dear life to manage? 'The Doctor may prescribe and the pxt may just dispense another just to prove a point ' he thinks. Does bickering and directionless competition solve any problem? All medical staff work for the patient and that can only be achieved if they all work together. The problem in Nigeria is typically about regulation. The pharmacist complains that the patent medicine dealers are encroaching (which is of course true) while the medical doctor is wary that the pharmacist is getting too close. (well, that's somehow true too) Each party must remember that they have in one way or another encroached in another's field. For example, a Pxt will want to diagnose everything and treat everything while the medical doctor will stock drugs in his office just to circumvent the standing rule of having a Pxt in his hospital to do that. That's where regulation comes into play. The moment we start seeing each field of medical practice as being as indispensable as another, then we'll start progressing, if not, we'll be stagnated for the foreseeable future. The Pxt is never a neurosurgeon neither is it the other way around but a neurosurgeon will for a fact fail in his work without the drugs (for one, the anaesthetics he can't do without) The hand does not tell the leg to go and die cos it will still feel the pains of the leg when it dies. The brain coordinates the body but remove the stomach for a month and tell me what happens to the brain. Every part of the body is so indispensable that i can't say for one that any is superior to the other (well, I dont know for the vestigials) Pls, everyone in the medical field see the other as indispensable and then we can both work together. Remember, that's what professionalism is all about. Bickering and backbiting does not solve a modicum of problems.

Let them continue. At least it's a welcome development. Let them data-war so long as it brings abt the best in them. That's the power of competition. I'll be happier when it's 4 or 5gig for 1k.
