It is the responsibility of the oil companies to clean up their mess and pay hefty compensation to the affected communities.
This is how it is done in the West, including America and Canada.

bare1:
Do I need to be in the other party's shoes to know whether it pinches him or not? A person who spends so much time hurling negative words so freely that it doesn't seem like anything to him?

Even if it pinches him, it wouldn't be for long but the one who creates the thought and the words is more on the losing side for she creates it for herself. But even if she doesn't care about that, at least for the sake of unity and peace there's a need for us to be productive in building the Nation. Everyone is complaining yet nobody wants to do anything about it.

Evidently this goes against your assumption - reached probably cause you jumped in midway - that I'm in support of Biafra. I understand if you would struggle with a lunatic for grabbing your hat cause we all possess varying core values and thought patterns, but I can't relate with that.
I have read the exchanges but for the lack of me, I am lost at your fierce objection to 'home truth' voiced in that post. Each person values things differently. Your analogy with madness is misplaced. You cannot say that MASSOB, RBL, Biafrans are all mad.

The hat in this instance is her country and she merely analysed the implication of what she termed "the usual Ibo discordant chorus to break up Nigeria along tribal lines" through violence.

Nothing is amiss in her post and making a mountain out of this mole hill makes you a partial participant.

stildude: Boy stop lying! you were among those pro Ameachi youth looking for a fight at PH airport. what do you mean IP address when there is glo, mtn, etisalat, iphones, laptops, android, etc.

You are such a simpleton! Who is a liar here? You that never knew this guy in person but claimed he was in PH while the guy says he's in the US. You appear to be such a deficient jerk that you don't know what an IP address is. Go and ask your 'internet service provider' to tell you your IP address. I hate to be the teacher in this but in short an Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical label assigned to each computer participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.

IP address serves two principal functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing. IP addresses are binary numbers, but they are usually stored in text files and displayed in human-readable notations, such as 172.16.254.1 (for IPv4), and 2001:db8:0:1234:0:567:8:1 (for IPv6).

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) manages the IP address space allocations globally and delegates five regional Internet registries (RIRs) to allocate IP address blocks to local Internet registries , i.e., Internet service providers. No two internet service providers have the same IP address and you are there listing glo, mtn, etisalat, iphones, laptops, android in your foolhardy ignorance!

Through each person's ip address, you can say which country they are and which internet service provider they are using. You cannot say who is who until you know this detail of login, which is at the finger tips of Nairaland Admin. for each person that logs on to its website. Do you get it now, hired simpleton?

stildude: Living day, we are talking about now, the present when Goodluck is our president and his wife PEJ is our first lady. An office may mean a position of duty, or authority, especially in government. The role of the first lady in Nigeria for now is an 'office' whether constitutionally or otherwise. First ladies have always performed official roles in this country side by side their husbands since independence, and Jonathan didn't conjure it up. First lady carrying out pet projects funded by state money is what? Most of you want PEJ's head, but from what standpoint. Doesn't Ameachi's wife get to exercise certain power because which is the spouse of a chief executive, or are some of the cars she moves in not fueled by state fund. Most of your criticisms here are just borne out of pure hate. You speak of poise and proper manners, when your writing pattern shouts otherwise. You are all hauling insults at one woman, it isn't right, and it is hypocritical. The fact that Asaba is deltan capital today has a lot to do with Marian Babagida. How do you even divorce the first lady from politics. One of the definitions of politics is "who wants what, when and how". If you have that in mind, the firstlady's activities and opinion will always bring controversy. Since politics is also the authoritative allocation of (scarce) resources, there will always be conflict. Pej is first lady but first she is a woman and man by nature is a political animal. It just depends on which side favours who.
What I want to see on this forum is sane criticism and not spewing of hate. Whenever any one has a contrary opinion to most of anti -PEJ's they are tagged GEJ's internet thugs. So what does that make you?
Do you have such short memory of what you wrote that was being responded to by Livingday? I quote in part, " Have we forgotten so soon how one woman held Nigerians and Nigeria to hostage during the Yar adua's era, or the Charisma and political awareness displayed by the first lady during Obasanjo's era? I refuse to agree that the first Lady is 'overdoing' things considering what obtained in the past." Is PEJ in competition with your assumed excesses of past first ladies? Who among the past first lady descended the Presidential plane before her husband, ignored protocol and exchanged pleasantries with dignitaries before the president or plunged her state into political turmoil? You do not make sense in your half-baked defence of PEJ in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. The suggestion that because she is a 'political animal' entitles her to these excesses belongs in the waste bin. I hate to say it, but you really betrayed your PEJ&GEJ internet hireling status!
PoliticsRe: Joe Igbokwe: Please Stop Patience Jonathan by danpatrick: 9:47am On Jul 18, 2013
POTUT: @amansu,

I sound like a GEJ/PEJ PR hireling by asking Nigerians to build their electoral character? Or by reminding Nigerians of the chronic abuse of power and privilege by past first ladies?

If you won't have a rethink, then I can tell you that it is short-tempered, narrow-minded opinions like yours that cause our chronic memory loss as citizens.

PEJ has carried about her business of being first lady in ways that are considered below par by most of us, yes that is true. But attacking her as if she is the problem with our democracy or development is hypocrisy. Instead, attack the structure of governance that condones the use of state funds for personal business, or the dumbness of a senate or state house of assembly that is simply an appendage and annex of the executive. There are many things we ought to salvage here, not hipping curses and haranguing PEJ. She as an individual is far from the problem we wish to solve. When we elect real constitutional watchdogs in the senate and house of reps, then show me how a PEJ alone can desecrate the constitution without the hammer falling on her.
Amansu is right and I quote her, "There is nothing hypocritical in calling PEJ to order. If things were bad before, we refuse to accept that they continue. Dwelling in the bad past as a yardstick to judge PEJ is self-defeatism. You sound like a PR for GEJ & PEJ in disguise!". The subject at hand is the uncharacteristic 'First Lady' and you chose to divert attention to the past as justification for PEJ excesses. Senate and the House of Reps. were voted into power and can be voted out but for the pervasive and endemic societal corruption. PEJ was never voted for but conducts herself as if she were the president and GEJ a simple 'house husband'.
