PoliticsAbdul Mumuni Abiola Reveals Details About MKO Abiola's Will (Video) by Dapagun(op): 6:52am On Sep 24, 2024
Last last, the IGP and/or the president must put mouth in this family.

How can all these children be denied their rights which were explicitly named in the will.

Laws in Nigeria scare me to be honest

Because how could they have sold over 60,000 barrels of crude without paying taxes or sharing the proceeds?
They also deprived Nugeria of revenue too.

Abdul Mumuni Abiola has revealed shocking family secrets in this revealing interview about his late father MKO Abiola, urging President Tinubu to intervene.

MKO Abiola’s WILL: Abdul sheds light on how MKO arranged cash payments for all his 30+ wives. First wife Simbiat got £300,000.

Abdul narrated how Kola and Wuraola Abiola acting as self appointed directors have lifted over 600,000 barrels of oil from their late fathers oil block and neither him or the other siblings collect 1 naira from their proceeds of the deal.

Abdul details how Kola Abiola and his full siblings has been managing the MKO Abiola Estate like his personal property and none of their other half siblings have ever been consulted.

BlueRayDick:
@Op I don't really understand the issue here.

From the excerpt of the will you shared, the executor of the will and Abiola's appointed Trustee is NATIONAL WESTMINISTER BANK PLC, UK.

Shouldn't you be asking them why and how Kola & Wuraola became administrators of the will? I believe the family should be asking the will executors the right questions and not Nigerian authorities.

How is this EFCC, NFIU or Nigerian Police headache?

Except of course if Abiola has two different wills; one that is for his assets abroad and the other for his assets in Nigeria.
They, Kola and Wura should explain

From this, it is clear that

This what his brother said about him

Kola and Wura are not the only qualified heirs of Abiola's Estate and they are just taking advantage of them being the children of the first wife to sit on the inheritance of the others and also appointed themselves as the Directors and shareholders Summit oil and other companies while also selling the other properties

This isn't fair and also borderline criminal. It is a matter the EFCC, ICPC and NFIU to take up so justice can be served
PoliticsWhat MKO Abiola's Will Said About His Properties (Pictures) by Dapagun(op): 12:27pm On Sep 20, 2024
Late Mogul and winner of the annulled 1993 Presidential election; Late Alhaji Chief MKO Abiola did many things right and one of those things was that he had a valid will before he died, the will which is a public document, clearly highlights his beneficiaries and the conditions for anyone unknown at that time to qualify as a beneficiary; this was clearly documented with provisions made regarding cash and property.

The said will recognized at least four of his wives and their children as qualified children upon conduction of paternity tests; this brings us to the question, since the will recognizes the children of the other wives of Late Alhaji Chief MKO Abiola, thereby making provisions for them, why then has the duo of Kola and Wuraola Zulikat Abiola with smooth engineering, disinherited the other qualified children? The answer is simple Greed. The documents below shows that Kola Abiola and his direct siblings are not the only heirs of the MKO Abiola Estate neither were they listed as Administrators.

On the heels of the recent petition and disclaimer by the other heirs and administrators of the Abiola Estate, a deep dive into the actions and accusations against the duo have revealed quite a number of things, chief among these is the brazen conversion of properties belonging to the Abiola Estate into theirs and their direct siblings’, self-appointment as Trustees and Directors in the companies, conducting of business transactions without the knowledge and approval of the other heirs without remittance, and their continued sale of properties belonging to the Abiola Estate. Kola Abiola and Wuraola Zulikat Abiola; being 2 of the children of the Late Mogul’s first wife seem to think that by virtue of birth, they have more rights than the others and in absolute disregard for the law, and the provision of the Late Mogul’s will have embarked on a planned diversion of assets which has spanned over a decade.

One of the cases in dispute – it was discovered that, Kola and 2 of his siblings had themselves listed as “Directors, shareholders, and persons with significant control” of Radio Communications Nigeria Limited; A company which belonged to the Late Alhaji Chief MKO Abiola, with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) thereby taking over the shares of the company – this was done first in 2003, and 2019.

After several years in court, this case is still in the Federal court of Appeals. Since they are not duly recognized as Trustees or Administrators in Late Alhaji Chief MKO Abiola’s will (which is a public document), how then were they able to do this? Does this not lend credence to the accusations of the other heirs that they have been fraudulently misrepresenting themselves as trustees and Directors of the Abiola Estate– does this not even buttress the accusation by their siblings that Wuraola Zulikat Abiola committed perjury by going as far as signing an Affidavit claiming she was a trustee of Abiola Bookshops to get the Deed of Title for one of the properties they have sold?

More importantly, does this not prove that they fraudulently appointed themselves as Directors of Summit Oil Company Limited as accused by the other heirs?

A further dive has shown them to be in several property disputes with their other siblings more importantly, with other entities also – this proves that fraud for this duo is innate and they are brazen about perpetuating these acts – recently it was reported that they had an ongoing dispute over the sale of a property located at Isolo for which they have been paid a purported sum of about 7 billion naira from a total of 12 billion naira, they have also been in dispute with another family over a property which they are in the process of selling to Starlink.

They were also linked to a major incident that occurred in Ayobo where they sold over 400 acres of land to residents – a place presently occupied by about 5 CDAs; an attempt by the other heirs to reclaim the property and get the residents to ratify the sale led to stiff opposition almost becoming a national incident – this goes to show the extent they’d go to in order to line their pockets. Note that for all these transactions, the other heirs have announced that they were not carried along and do not know about these dealings. In fact, they have claimed that the duo have presented at least one of the businesses to be non-functional until news came to light that while fraudulently misrepresenting the Estate of the Late Chief MKO Abiola, the said defunct business had business transactions worth over 50 million dollars in paid amounts.

In their recent business dealings with Dr Akintoye Akindele, it was published the extent they went to tarnish the image of the industrialist who owns an Energy Park which boasts of a 2500bpd modular refinery among several other processing plants in the Energy Park. In a bid to discredit Dr Akintoye Akindele as the CEO of the company, they submitted overtrumped charges against him in order to get an order to detain him from the courts; an order which was overturned by the court on the grounds that it was a civil issue which they misrepresented as a criminal issue.

It has been postured that they did this in collusion with some other people in a bid to take over the company by hostile measures as a conviction would have enforced a step down. Reports showed that they had business transactions with the Dr Akintoye Akindele owned Duport Midstream Limited with each of the companies they represent owing themselves some money in ongoing business; rather than pursue the path of civil business operations, they resorted to strong-arm tactics. This further proves that they have an history of fraudulent misrepresentation.

It has been postured that a deeper investigation into other businesses owned by the Abiola Estate may reveal that the duo of Kola Abiola and Wuraola Zulikat Abiola with their other direct siblings may have by subterfuge, presented themselves as Directors or Trustees across all these other companies thus strengthening their hold over their Late father’s Estate and successfully cutting off the other heirs from their rightful inheritance.

It’s evident that the actions of Kola Abiola and Wuraola Abiola with the support of their direct siblings is a long game that has been planned and executed over a long time, it was premeditated and carried out with surgical precision – this is made evident by their going as far as listing themselves as Directors of some of the companies owned by the Abiola Estate. It is noticeable that the companies which they are accused of misrepresenting themselves as Directors/Trustees of, have them and their siblings and none of the children of the other wives nor other heirs listed – this shows a systematic manipulation of facts and possible fraudulent change of control to their names.

In a good country, no one – I repeat no one would do business with this duo, in a country where laws are upheld and there are no sacred cows, the state apparatuses would have stepped in and gotten to the bottom of this, maybe it is actually right that they have the support of some state actors and that is why they can act with such impudence. These accusations alone are worth investigating – after all, they are not being accused by the public, they are being accused by their kith and kin, kith and kin who have expressed displeasure that their petition is not receiving the required attention from the Police.

These recent reports are grounds for the EFCC and NFIU to investigate them, grounds for NNPC Limited to look into the business transactions of SUMMIT Oil under this duo and ascertain if their business practices are above and beyond reproach, for FIRS to look into the tax situation of the company – if they claim to the MKO Abiola Estate that it has been non-functional and it has been proven otherwise, have they been paying the required taxes – before the case broke open? It is grounds for SUNTERA and other business entities to hold off doing business with them or purchasing properties from them until these matters are resolved else they will be complicit in a case of massive fraud.

It is high time the right authorities step in and check this duo who apart from being accused of fraud among other issues of falsifying records are bent on tarnishing the Country’s image in the international community as evidenced by going into business with SUNTERA under false misrepresentation of SUMMIT OIL unless they are truly “sacred cows with friends in high places”.

PoliticsMKO Abiola's Children Pettition IG Over Diversion Of Their Inheritance by Dapagun(op): 2:08pm On Sep 12, 2024
Heirs of MKO Abiola File Petition Against Their Siblings over Fr**d, Misappropriation of $50million, Among Others.

The children of the late Chief M.K.O Abiola have publicly aired their dissociation from an alleged fraudulent actions being done by two of their siblings.

In a statement released by the late Nigerian politician’s descendants, the family disclaims any business transactions conducted by their siblings who are self-appointed directors of Summit Oil Company Limited.
https://www.instagram.com/p/C_0WiN0CAqk/

@FIRSNigeria should investigate whether Summit Oil fulfilled its tax obligations in relation to the $50 million deal with Duport Midstream Company Limited. Furthermore, I urge the NNPC to clarify the type of license used for this transaction - Oil Mining License (OML) or Oil Prospecting License (OPL). If the deal was conducted with an OPL, I advocate for the prosecution of those responsible for this potential illegality.

The taxes from the $50 million deal between Summit Oil and Duport Midstream Company Limited could be a game-changer for the vulnerable communities in Maiduguri, Yobe, and Sokoto, who are still reeling from the devastating floods. If utilized effectively, these funds could bring much-needed relief and support to the affected families, helping them rebuild their lives and livelihoods.

It's crucial that we ensure transparency and accountability in the use of these taxes to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.

PoliticsMKO Abiola's Children Accuse Kola And Wuraola Of Diverting Their Inheritance by Dapagun(op): 9:07am On Sep 12, 2024
A Caveat, Disclaimer And Disassociation From The Unauthorized Action Of Self Appointed Directors Of Summit Oil Company Limited

We, the undersigned four heirs and children of the Late Alhaji Chief M.K.O. Abiola and Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, otherwise known as KD 7, for and on behalf of all the disinherited heirs and children of our Father, the Late Alhaji Chief M.K.O. Abiola, (Chief MKO) do hereby publicly disclaim all actions taken by the self-appointed Directors of Summit Oil Company Limited (the “Company”) in relation to its business transactions with Duport Midstream Company Limited (Duport) and/or any other business entity.

We wish to clarify for the benefit of the Members of the Public that the Company is a legacy company inherited by all the children and heirs of Chief MKO Abiola, that had all, prior to now, been deceived by their Siblings, particularly Kola Abiola and Zulikat Wuraola Abiola, who not only self-appointed themselves as Directors of Summit Oil Company Ltd., but furthermore entered into multimillion US Dollar transactions with Duport and other business entities without the knowledge of and the necessary consent of other heirs and beneficiaries of Chief MKO’s Estate.

Presently, we the heirs of the Company being unaware of the said business relationships with Duport, and other entities have been divested by the said self-appointed Directors of Summit. We are particularly alarmed, at the content of the Petition from Summit Oil, dated June 2, 2023, addressed to the Inspector General of Police, of the Nigerian Police Force, and signed by our sister, Zulikat Wuraola Abiola, titled,
‘Complaint of Economic Sabotage and Diversion of Funds Against Duport Midstream Company Limited’.

In that petition, Wuraola admitted that Summit Oil under her watch, sold over 566,000 (Five Hundred and Sixty-Six Thousand), barrels of crude oil (condensates) to Duport with a value of over $50 million (Fifty Million US Dollars), for which Summit was fully paid in cash, less the disputed sum of $5,636,397.01 (Five Million, Six Hundred and
Thirty Six Thousand, Three Hundred and Ninety Seven US Dollars, One Cent).

Not only were we never told about these transactions, but our siblings, Kola and Wuraola have consistently lied to us, the children of Chief MKO and the Executors of Chief MKO’s Estate, that Summit Oil was not operational.

It is instructive that Wuraola similarly made a statement to the Police on June 6, 2023, where she adopted the above petition and both documents, along with other sensitive documents and Agreements, were filed as Exhibits in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CR/570/2023 between the Inspector General of Police and (1). Dr. Akintoye Akindele and (2). Duport Midstream Company Limited.

Some of the said court filed documents further revealed that the Company had a
commercially rewarding relationship with Suntera, a Company that was invested in by the Government of India. In addition, it is pertinent to mention that we are deeply shocked by the diversion of the Company’s assets by Kola and Wuraola Abiola
Since all these actions taken by these self-appointed Directors of Summit, including the Petition written to the Police, were without our knowledge or consent and were unauthorized, we hereby declare that they do not represent the interests of all the heirs of Alhaji Chief MKO Abiola and we hereby disown the Petition.

Consequently, we call on the Inspector General of Police to disregard the Petition and withdraw all consequential actions so far taken against Dr. Akintoye Akindele and Duport Midstream Company Ltd on the basis of the Petition.

We have perceived these actions to be mere bully tactics deployed by Kola and Wuraola, to wrongly instigate the Institutions of the State to harass and thus prevent Dr. Akintoye Akindele from paying the said disputed and outstanding sum of money to the Estate of our Late Father, Chief MKO, so as to benefit all his heirs.

Furthermore, we hereby notify members of the Public, that we reserve all our rights to protect our interests in this and all other related matters and we hereby, most genuinely, call on the Inspector General of Police to take appropriate legal action to hold our siblings, Kola and Wuraola, to account for all the diverted earnings from Summit Oil and any other legacy business entity of our late Father.

Signed for and on behalf of
THEMSELVES AND ALL THE CHILDREN OF THEIR MOTHER THE LATE ALHAJA KUDIRAT ABIOLA AS WELL AS ALL OTHER CHILDREN AND HEIRS OF CHIEF M.K.O. ABIOLA’S ESTATE THAT
HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED OF THE FULL BENEFIT OF THE ESTATE OF THEIR LATE FATHER.

PoliticsPeter Obi Used His Campaign Team To Defraud LP - Arabambi by Dapagun(op): 7:26am On Sep 12, 2024
HOW PETER OBI USED PA ADEBANJO, AISHA YESUFU, AKIN OSUNTOKUN, ITUAH IGHODALO, OTHERS TO DEFRAUD LABOUR PARTY*

*LABOUR PARTY CALLS ON NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER AND EFCC TO INVESTIGATE AISHA YESUFU AND ITUA IGHODALO FOR EMBEZZLEMENT, MISAPPROPRIATION AND POSSIBLE TERRORISM FINANCING

Gentlemen of the Press

(1) The attention of Labour party National Working Committee under the leadership of Barr Julius Abure (National Chairman) and Alh Farouk Umar Ibrahim (National Secretary) has been drawn to unguarded comments made against the party leadership by irresponsible irreparable irredeemable arsonist Mrs Aisha Yesufu while trying to defend her involvement in the criminal conspiracy and diversion of funds in Labour party presidential campaign account.

(2) The Political buccaneer cum scavenger said that the National Chairman of our great party Barr Julius Abure was lying as she never embezzled the funds of the party during the campaign for the 2023 election claiming that our party National Chairman was still living in the past where he thinks one can make such allegations without being fact-checked for its authenticity.

(3) Mrs Aisha Yesufu concluded the defense of her innocence like a patient suffering from Bipolar affliction where she said our party National Chairman Barr Julius Abure thinks we are still in 1980 where one can lie shamelessly without being fact checked.

(4) Ordinarily, the very silly rantings from this low-life grossly incompetent and daft Mrs Aisha Yesufu would have been ignored but for one reason, to expose the yawning emptiness in the cheap meal-ticket and ATM called Mr Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi

(5) Aisha Yesufu's admittance as one of the Signatories involved in the criminal conspiracy over the disbursement of Labour party presidential fund, up loads of agents and payments of agents fees has further rendered her already torn banner of political relevance into tattered shreds with their very reckless clandestine spending under the instruction of that desperate political merchant who the mannerless Yesufu sees as her leader and political guide in their collective stupidity rushing head long into their joint political ruins with an ungrateful Sen Ireti Kingibe who was made a senator of the Federal Republic by Barr Julius Abure and Alh Farouk Umar Ibrahim with a paltry sum of N500,000 (Five hundred thousand naira only)

(6) The unintelligent Yesufu in her very desperate effort to be heard, claimed she never embezzled the party campaign fund but failed to explain why Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi opted for her and her accomplice Pastor Ituah Ighodalo who together mismanaged, diverted and failed to account or provide Audited account for over 12 billion Naira and $15 million in donations to Labour party

(7) The trio of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun and Sola Ebiseni faction of Afenifere were also culpable as they committed financial infractions of over 600m Naira which they retain in their privates account and that of Afenifere Accounts in General

(cool Mr Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi clandestinely hired Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo and this faction of Afenifere to commit looting, criminal conspiracy, diversions and obtaining money under false pretext from the Labour party presidential campaign fund and yet these are individuals parading themselves as elder statesmen

(9) For this Yesufu, a great shame to womanhood, it would have been wiser for her to try to begin to re-arrange her hitherto wasted life in which she has always been standing as a "political burnt offering" for the dull and dumb political trader Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi's dead presidential ambition

(10) Aisha Yesufu would be still be wiser to check her puppet naked dance in the public simply and ignorantly hoping to appear politically correct in the eyes of the equally very corrupt and daft political bystander that even the political dwarf Kenneth Okwonkwo has advised to step down from the 2027 Presidential Race

(11) However, our party choose to freely advise her to find time to lie down in the anatomical position and do a serious thinking about her enslaved life which has kept exposing her to a stupid acquisition of Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi hate of another person to aggressively transfer to those who she herself has no issues with, all for the reason of "wetin I go chop". Mrs Aisha Yesufu is a product of enslaving stomach - infrastructure poison.

(12) Yesufu is a sorry victim of greed and corrupted mind that are common to all in the money-for-hand - integrity-for-ground colony of the political slaves called Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi group. Meanwhile, since this is your portion in life as determined by indolence, all we can say is that you are welcome to the life you have willingly chosen.

(13) Further more, considering the level of the ordinariness pervading the totality of your political life on every scale and in every measure, is enough check in a normal human being who has not been relieved of the burden of conscience, decency and social etiquette to stay loudly reserved and withdrawn from an attempt at insulting our party National Chairman who is by a large immeasurable distance superior, much more visible and respectable than yours.

(14) Your actions and conducts show you as an Epitome of manifest corruption guided by Mr Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi your political leader who is very ordinary, cheap and simple for you to befittingly end up as a service and an errand woman to a man who is pretending to have a life on the license of a seeming honest and successful political figure

(15) A political figure that events are beginning to put up in the image of a secessionist, democracy assassin, promoter of political insurrection, arsonist, tax-evader, smart corner-cutting business man and possibly some much more heinous testimonial to yet evolve from the up coming ongoing official investigation into how he aided you and Itua Ighodalo to criminally mismanage such a huge sum

(16) Aisha Yesufu statement has confirmed the obvious that this Ethically Rusty and Morally Depraved mind has lost her cognitive function of thinking, remembering and reasoning to such a dangerous extent that it has now permanently interfered with her act of making public statements that have ultimately made her one of the worst addition to human race

(17) For the record, we would not have dignified these purile lies from these normadic political misfits and bystanders but for the benefit of the general public who might be mislead to think it's a statement made in their interest and that the National Chairman Barrister Julius Abure was not responsible for Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi loss of presidential election to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as this was just a subtle attempt by them to take over labour party and use it for political insurrection

(18) Paragraph 4, 5 and 6 of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act describes the Contents of election petition as follows:

4. (1) An election petition under this Act shall-
(a) specify the parties interested in the election petition;

(b) specify the right of the election petition

(c) state the holding of the election, the scores of the candidates and the person returned as the winner of the election, and

(d) state clearly the facts of the election petition and the ground or grounds on which the petition is based and the reliefs sought by the petitioner.

5. The election petition shall be accompanied by -
(a) a list of the witnesses that the petitioner intends to call in proof of the petition:

(b) written statements on oath of the witnesses and

(c) copies or list of every document to be relied on at the hearing of the petition.

6. A petition which fails to comply with the sub paragraphs (5) shall not be accepted for filling by the secretary

(19) The election petition must be filed within 21 days after the date of the declaration of the results of the elections. The Tribunal shall deliver a judgment in writing within 180 days from the date of the filing of the petition. This is as stipulated in Section 132(7) & (cool of the Electoral Act, 2022.

(20) Form EC8A is the most popular sheet INEC uses for recording at polling unit. It is the most important sheet because it is the first result sheet.

(21) Labour party likes to remind this incoherent and thoroughly demystified demented political scavenger Aisha Yesufu and her Trader boss Mr Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi that out of the the 189,180 total list of polling unit and collation centre agents that was used for the presidential, National Assembly and Governorship election, a total of one million five hundred and seventy four thousand, three hundred and one (1,574,301) party polling unit agents and 68,057 collation agents were submitted to INEC by political parties.

(22) In summary,

The ruling All Progressives Congress deployed (176,223 PUAs and 9,581 CAs);

Peoples Democratic Party (176,558 PUAs and 9,539 CAs)

New Nigeria Peoples Party (176,200 PUAs and 9,604 CAs).

Labour Party (134,874 PUAs and 4,859 CAs

Accord (83,007 PUAs and 3,358 CAs

Action Alliance (56,459 PUAs and 1,531 CAs

African Action Congress (38,779 PUAs and 1,723 CAs

African Democratic Congress (96,043 PUAs and 3,626 CAs

Action Democratic Party (44,516 PUAs and 548 CAs

All Progressives Grand Alliance (25,657 PUAs and 933 CAs

Allied Peoples Movement (80,892 PUAs and 3,932 CAs

(23) Gentlemen of the press, with the above data from INEC, it's obvious Labour party managed under the grossly incompetent and manifestly corrupt Saint Mr Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi, Aisha Yesufu, Itua Ighodalo, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun and Sola Ebiseni has already conceded defeat to the APC in 54,306 pooling units across the country, a sort of Christian wake keep for LP presidential mandate

(24) Further more, with the confession of the former Director General of LP PCC who was on loan to LP from ZLP that they were even unable to pay all the remaining uploaded 134,874 pooling units agents meant that both Peter Obi and his groups of rogues jointly presided over interment of LP presidential mandate at the Cemetery

(25) For the record Mr Peter Gregory onwubuasi Obi unconstitutionally with intent to obtain money under false pretext from Labour party and covered up his looting sprees opened Obi/Baba-Ahmed Campaign account against all the constitution and morality ground just to steal, divert and misappropriate over N12billion Naira and $15m Dollars

(26) The accounts are Obi/Baba-Ahmed Campaign Account:
Zenith Bank – 1241950451
Sterling Bank – 0091657896
Heritage Bank – 1400234900
Globus Bank – 1000128194.

(27) Our party therefore requested the National Security Adviser and calls EFCC to investigate the accounts above for terrorism financing, incitement, fraud impersonation, felony and anarchy and if found culpable should be arrested and charged to court in line with Section 251(2) & (3) which provides thus: The Federal High Court shall have and exercise jurisdiction and powers in respect of treason, treasonable felony and allied offences.

(28) Labour party further request that all accounts both private and company belonging to (1) Pa Ayo Adebanjo (2) Mr Akin Osuntokun and (3) Sola Ebiseni be subjected to strong investigation to ascertain their level of complicity in the fraud

(29) Finally, In Nigeria, we have a Weak truth, Strong lies and many Nigerians are spectators that are only interested in who wins. They don't mind if it is a lie that takes victory over the truth. They are just interested in who wins.

(30) What could be considered inconsistent in an inconsistent act by a woman known to be highly inconsistent and a perpetual slowpoke. Opinions are in very many plurals.

(31) The rough exposure of a rough Aisha Yesufu will remain rough as long as she remains in the throes of the rough existence she has been used to all her life. Nothing will polish a pig to earn a cleanliness and neatness contest. A pig will remain a pig very dirty, rough and unkept

(32) The Vote of Confidence passed on Bar Julius Abure and Alh Farouk Umar Ibrahim as National Chairman and National Secretary remains in force thus there is no vacancy in the NWC of Labour party

PoliticsStrengthening Nigeria-India Ties Is A Win-Win For All - Minister Of Industry by Dapagun(op): 6:18pm On Sep 08, 2023
Doris Uzoka-Anite

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s G20 Summit visit to India, on the special invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is coming almost exactly sixty-one years after Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the Republic of India, visited Nigeria.

Since that historic September 1962 visit, hosted by Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, the first (and only) Prime Minister of Nigeria, in Lagos, Nigerian and Indian leaders have exchanged several visits, and presided over a bilateral relationship that has grown in leaps and bounds.

It is auspicious that this latest visit by a Nigerian President is happening not only against the backdrop of India’s Presidency of the G20, but in a season of inspiring breakthroughs in space exploration by India. In my time here I have seen how much of a thing of pride these feats have been for the Indian people. Successes of this nature are especially significant because they rekindle national hope and optimism, and fuel the collective ambition to achieve even more.

For me, on this first-ever visit to India—which also happens to be my first international engagement as Nigeria’s new Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment—I have been keen to see up close what makes India tick, the powering forces behind ‘Incredible India’, what we in Nigeria can learn—and what India might be able to learn from us.

On Wednesday we hosted a Presidential Roundtable where President Tinubu and senior Ministers met leading Indian businesspersons. The President was emphatic in his message to Indians looking to invest in Nigeria: “Do not procrastinate. Don’t be frightened about investments in Nigeria… I have a team, and I am the captain of that team, and I assure you that we solve problems.”

A number of important agreements were signed at that event, including one between the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria Limited (InfraCorp) and Invest India, and another one between the Nigerian Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. We also saw investment commitments amounting to several billions of dollars by SkipperSeil Group, Jindal Steel and Power Limited, Bharti Enterprises, Indorama Petrochemical Limited and many more.

My bilateral meeting with the Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, provided yet another opportunity to discuss how Nigeria and India can improve trade and investment relations.

In my meetings here with various Indian entrepreneurs who are already doing business in Nigeria, I am struck by their love and passion for Nigeria, and how proud they are to be seen as champions of the investment potential of Nigeria. Our work is made much easier with these enthusiastic promoters of Nigeria and its immense opportunities.

I have felt very much at home here in India. Anyone who knows both countries will be aware of just how much we have in common: our colonial heritage, fast-growing, multilingual, multi-religious populations, the success stories of our young people, especially in ICT, and our teeming diasporas.

The Indian diaspora in Nigeria has existed for many decades now; consisting of tens of thousands of Indian nationals who consider Nigeria their second home, and are to be found thriving in various sectors, from manufacturing to hospitality to oil and gas, and healthcare. There are now more than 130 Indian companies that are active in Nigeria.

Our relationship is a strong and thriving one, and the G20 participation invitation extended to President Tinubu by Prime Minister Modi is proof of this. India happens to be President Tinubu’s first Asian destination since assuming office; and one of the first businesspersons he met upon assumption of office was Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, which owns Nigeria’s second-biggest telecoms company.

India has demonstrated how to accomplish many of the things we are prioritizing as a country, like the digital enumeration of all citizens, development of an ICT sector that is a global powerhouse, and the fight against poverty. One very important takeaway for us is to understand Prime Minister Modi’s unprecedented success in lifting 135 million Indians out of poverty in five years, and to apply a similar model in Nigeria.

We are pushing forward on all aspects of our bilateral relationship. Following the signing and ratification of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and India, in 2020, Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, began twice-weekly flights between Lagos and Mumbai, in April 2023. However, we need to fast-track the signing of our Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (IPPA), and Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA), with India. Joining the G20, as Africa’s largest economy and most populous country, will no doubt position Nigeria to benefit from even more favorable trade and economic ties with India and other leading world economies.

This visit marks the beginning of a new vista for Nigeria-India relations, under the leadership of President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi. There are truly no limits to what we can achieve, for the mutual benefit of our people.

In Nigeria we are serious about letting the world know that we are a country that is ready and open for business. Within ninety minutes of his arrival in India, on Tuesday, President Tinubu held his first meeting, with no other person than Mr. Prakash Hinduja, the billionaire Chairman and CEO of the Hinduja Group of Companies.

The President’s words to Mr. Hinduja during that meeting are a fitting way to close this piece: “I am here to personally assure our friends and investors that there is no bottleneck that I will not break. Nigeria will become one of the most conducive places on earth to make good profits and create lasting jobs. With my support, there is nothing standing in your way of enjoying the unrivaled opportunities presented by our massive market and the ingenious, and hardworking nature of the Nigerian people. We are open for business.”

PoliticsTinubu, 100 Days And The Burden Of Resetting Nigeria - Temitope Ajayi by Dapagun(op): 9:04am On Sep 05, 2023
Henry Kissinger, former United States Secretary of State, perennial international statesman and oracle of diplomacy profiled six world leaders, now of blessed memories, in his most recent book, “Leadership: Six Studies in World Strategy’. These long departed leaders were the architects of the post-war evolution of their respective societies. The leaders: Konrad Adenauer (Germany), Charles de Gaulle (France), Richard Nixon (United States), Anwar Sadat (Egypt), Lee Kuan Yew (Singapore) and Margaret Thatcher (Britain) reshaped and redefined their national purposes, having inherited a postwar world that was in turmoil and full of uncertainties. They opened up new frontiers, confronted local political and economic challenges and significantly contributed to an enduring new world order.

Just like these global figures who shaped the circumstances of their era, Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, assumed the leadership of Africa’s most populous country at a time of great economic difficulties marked by very high socio-political tension. President Tinubu came in the midst of raging storms, inheriting legacy problems including insecurity, multi-dimensional poverty, angst, high decibel of ethnic agitations and general state of despair.

Since he assumed office 100 days ago, President Tinubu has focused on how to steady the floundering ship of state, redirect the economy and remove all barriers that inhibit productivity and growth. The first thing he did was the removal of fuel subsidy that has become a bottomless pit for the country. A world class auditor and turnaround expert himself, the goal of President Tinubu is to reprioritise national spending. A nation that literally flushed down over N21 trillion between 2005 and 2023 in the name of paying for cheap petrol when it could not generate the electricity to power its industries, run its hospitals and provide universal basic education to school children is a nation moving speedily towards self-destruction. The removal of fuel subsidy now means funding becomes available to invest in critical infrastructures to develop the country and position it on the path of economic prosperity. It also means government at all levels will now have more money to spend on social services, soft infrastructures and general social amenities that will improve quality of life.

The combined effect of fuel subsidy removal and realignment of the foreign exchange markets to remove corruption-ridden regime of preferential forex allocation to economic predators, that previously ruled the day, has led to high cost of living especially food and public transportation for Nigerians. Unfortunately, the hapless masses are mostly bearing the brunt of this, making many people to wonder if a government that should make life better for them had come to inflict more hardship.

Like a caring father who must navigate his family through turbulent period, President Tinubu, through national broadcasts, public statements and various interventions during meetings with groups and business leaders, laid out the issues before Nigerians and explained why the decisions he took to save the country, even when they came with momentary pains, are in the best interest of the country as doing otherwise will be accelerating the total collapse of the economy without any guardrail. A number of intervention programmes have been unveiled as reliefs to the people.

Under the intervention initiatives, the Tinubu-led administration granted N5 billion to each of the 36 States and FCT to procure food items, fertilisers and seedlings for distribution to households and farmers. To further bring immediate relief to the people 100,000 bags of rice were also sent to the States by the Federal Government while modalities are being worked out with Governors under the National Economic Council for a new National Minimum wage and consequential salary increase for public and private sector workers.

It is interesting to know that some private sector employers in the Organized Private Sector (OPS) have taken the initiative on their own to increase staff salary in line with the prevailing inflationary trend. In conjunction with the World Bank, States and Local Governments, the Federal Government is also working on direct cash transfers targeted at over 20million most vulnerable people across the country. The plan to deploy 11,500 CNG powered mass transit buses to make public transportation affordable for the masses is being concluded for participating mass transit companies. The government in a partnership between NNPC and NIPCO is setting up CNG mega stations across the country that can conveniently serve 200,000 vehicles daily.

Just like he did when he became the Governor of Lagos State in 1999, where he re-engineered the finances of the state from insolvency and paltry N600 million per month to the point where the State currently generates over N50 billion in internally generated revenue, President Tinubu knew from day one in office that the current revenue profile of the Federal Government and State Governments cannot fund the kind of development that needs to happen in Nigeria. At barely 10% Tax to GDP ratio, Nigeria ranks abysmally low compared to other African countries in revenue index. What South Africa makes in tax revenue from 1% of her high net worth tax payers in one year, is more than the entire IGR revenue of 36 States and FCT. It is the parlous revenue profile of the country that informed the decision of the President to set up the Taiwo Oyedele-led Tax and Fiscal Policy Reforms Committee. At the inauguration of the committee on August 7, 2023, President Tinubu declared that government cannot provide the social services and first-world infrastructure the people need to live a good life when it cannot generate the revenue to make them happen. He then tasked the committee to close the N20 trillion annual revenue gap in tax collection.

Equally, President Tinubu understands that there cannot be any meaningful development and progress in an atmosphere of constant agitations and strife with the intervening primordial interests within the polity. One of the reasons for almost unceasing agitations by a section of the country is the seeming lopsided appointments within the security establishment. The received wisdom in Nigeria is that any ethnic group without representation in the top hierarchy of the security establishment is not yet within the power arena even if all money of the country is spent to pave their streets with gold. As a leader who sufficiently understands the national psyche, in this regards, President Tinubu balanced the appointment of his service chiefs to project national outlook. Political leaders from the South East and Ohaneze Ndigbo severely criticized the Buhari government for marginalizing the Igbos in key security and other appointments. Now, an Igbo man from Enugu, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla is the Chief of Naval Staff while a minority and a christian from Southern Kaduna, Lt. General Christopher Musa is the Chief of Defence Staff. In the same spirit of promoting social harmony and repairing damaged social fabrics, President Tinubu also ensured geopolitical balance in distribution of key portfolios of the recently sworn-in Ministers while also ensuring a proper-fit between the professional competence of majority of them and the ministries they lead.

Connectivity of empathy between a leader and the people he/she leads and ability to communicate are essential attributes of a good leader. President Tinubu possesses these two attributes in abundance with the ways and manners he has connected with the economic hardships Nigerians are going through. One of the best leadership and management books I ever read, ‘The Leadership Lessons of Jesus: A Timeless Model for Today’s Leaders’ was written by Bob Briner and Ray Pritchard. In the book, the authors explained why a leader must have clear vision and be able to communicate that vision clearly and concisely to the followers without leaving anyone in doubt about the ability to provide direction. This was best exemplified by Jesus Christ when he met Peter, James and John when he called them to discipleship. Jesus told the trio, ‘Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” By vocation, Peter, James and John were fishermen.

Jesus was clear about the job He was calling them unto. He didn’t leave them in doubt as to why they should drop their day time job. Just like Jesus did many centuries ago, President Tinubu has not failed in telling Nigerians about the dire strait of our national economy and what needs to be done to remake a buoyant economy that will serve every segment of the society. In his last national broadcast, he empathized with Nigerians and laid out his vision for a greater future that awaits. Part of the mark of his dexterity in political and diversity management is how he has, within 100 days in office, fostered social harmony and significantly reduced ethnic and political tensions in the country. President Tinubu has used his first 100 days in office to set the path and a new direction for the country. Many Nigerians, 67% to be precise, according to a recent survey, trust him to deliver on his renewed hope agenda.

SportsBukola Olopade Storms Budapest To Cheer Tobi Amusan, Others by Dapagun(op): 5:22pm On Aug 22, 2023
Former Sports Commissioner in Ogun State, Chief Bukola Olopade, arrived in Budapest, Hungary, on Monday morning with the sole aim of cheering the World Record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobiloba Amusan, to victory in defence of her title.

Amusan started her campaign here in Budapest on Tuesday at the National Athletics Stadium.

He is in Budapest as a guest of World Athletics for his contribution as the organiser of Marathon races in Nigeria.

Olopade, who was recently named as chairman of the Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival, is the brains behind the top-rated Access Bank-sponsored Lagos City Marathon, Abeokuta Marathon 10km race, Remo ultra-race and Abuja marathon. He was at the Budapest Athletics Stadium on Monday evening to witness the historic women’s 100m final, won by American sprinter, Richardson.

Olopade told The Guardian, at the Marriott hotel, in Budapest, that he would be excited to see Amusan retain her world title here at the 19th World Athletics Championships.

“First, I thank World Athletics for the recognition given to me to be part of these championships in Budapest. It will be a big excitement for me to see Tobi Amusan retain her world title on Wednesday. I will be at the stadium this afternoon to cheer her on and other Nigerian athletes. The AFN under Chief Tonobok Okowa has done so much for Nigeria’s athletics, and I think the federation deserves accolades. I will be happy if Nigeria gets a medal here in Budapest,” Olopade stated.

PoliticsPrince Clem Agba: The Legacies Of A Good Public Servant - Osazuwa Jonathan by Dapagun(op): 10:42pm On Aug 20, 2023
It is said that great leaders are known in tough times, by their contributions towards alleviating the suffering of others. But oftentimes they go unnoticed and unappreciated, especially in today’s world where self-praising politicians continue to dominate the spotlight.

As such, it is important that we start to recognize and appreciate exceptional leaders who have shown exceptional commitment to making society better; whose impacts have been felt by many irrespective of origin, class, or culture, like Prince Clem Agba(PCA), the immediate-past Minister for State for Budget and National Planning.

These past few weeks, I have read of unruly commentaries —most of them uninformed and lacking in pedigree— marshalledat the persona of the former honourable minister. It is not difficult to see them as what they truly are: vain attempts to discredit the noble legacies of the man who has severally been recognized as one of the most outstanding ministers in the last administration. Initially, I had tried to resist the temptation of adding my voice to the conversation, but like they say, evil triumphs loudly only in silence. And so, I must speak and lend my voice against “the counsel of Ahithophel and the evil report about Canaan”.

In 2022 for instance, I recall when the floods struck hard here in Edo state, and how Prince Clem Agba quickly mobilized interventions to support victims with the donation of cash and relief materials to cushion the effect of the devastation, as well as the resettlement of displaced persons. Words alone can’t possibly convey the gravity of hope restored to victims by this singular act of empathy, care, and swift response, but anyone who has been a victim of flood or woken up one day to a misfortune that destroyed almost everything they worked for, would understand just how far this went for victims.

That was not the first time he had shown deep resolve for providing solutions. Many of us can also remember the notorious Costain Isonorho dumpsite and how it was evacuated in less than a week under Clem Agba’s time as Edo state commissioner for environment and public utilities. Thisdumpsite had not just overwhelmed five civilian and military governments over twenty years, but had caused devastating environmental risks with no solutions, and exposed residents to obnoxious medical conditions in the state for decades. How soon have we forgotten?

Why is there a loud silence to the false narratives being peddled against a man who ensured the nomination of many Edo people into various job roles, including membership of boards of parastatals? A prophet truly is not without honour, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household!

PCA has repeatedly shown his heart lies with the people, or have we also forgotten the market stalls with streetlights and WCs he constructed in Ikoro and other communities, and the succour it brought to traders in those communities which was once described as “so close to civilization yet so far” due to neglect? For these people, it wasn’t just about the building, but the hope restored in their hearts following several disappointments from abandoned projects in the community.

Beyond professional achievements, his compassionate and approachable nature is a significant attribute that has remained unwavering and evident to those who have come in direct or indirect contact with him.

As a people, we must ask ourselves the hard question “How many ministers, not to mention minsters of state have done as much as Prince Clem Agba has done for Nigeria and their own people?” We must take stock and learn the act of gratitude, not because he is one of our own, but because he has shown exceptional commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians and the people of Edo State in particular, leaving behind an enviable legacy in every capacity he served.

I dare say he deserves to be celebrated.

Igbo Ora: The ‘World Capital of Twins’

About 50 miles north of Lagos lies Igbo-Ora, a sleepy rural town of about 92,000 residents.

Igbo-Ora is peopled by members of the Yoruba tribe, which makes up around 21% of Nigeria’s population.

While the exact statistics are debated, anthropologists are united: Igbo-Ora has a singularly high number of twins. Last year, when the government sponsored a festival celebrating them, more than 2,000 twins attended. The town has, therefore, been dubbed ‘The World Capital of Twins.’

But the sheer number of twins corresponds to another cultural phenomenon: twins are revered in Yoruba culture as gifts from God, dual entities protected by spirits and possessed of magical powers.

This unique cultural perspective inspired the most recent series by 24-year-old Yoruba photographer, Stephen Tayo, whose ancestors were from Igbo-Ora. The series is titled ‘Ibeji’ after the term used to refer to twins in Yoruba culture.

Blessing

Tayo, who grew up in Ikere-Ekiti, Nigeria, and now lives in Lagos, is not a twin himself, but he wanted to tell “a story that identifies my tribe.”

“It was really important for me to establish how twins are seen in our culture,” Tayo said in a phone interview. “Other tribes see twins as an abomination from the precolonial era onwards, but the Yoruba see them as a blessing.”

For Tayo, ‘Ibeji’ signifies a more conceptual and multivalent approach to portraiture in comparison to the street style photography that has landed him on Vogue.com, Dazed Digital and Nataal. His subjects, friends or members of his wider community were photographed at their homes or out on the streets of Lagos over a six-month period.

Tayo allowed his subjects to style themselves as they wished, but, revealingly, most of the siblings chose to be photographed wearing similar outfits. While some of the twins posed for Tayo with clearly differing aesthetics — longer or shorter hair, for example — others presented themselves as if they were the same person inhabiting two bodies, striking mirror-like poses.

“The twins I photographed all have different ways of expressing themselves, but some of them are hard to tell apart,” Tayo said. “I wanted to understand how it is possible for (two people) to look alike and dress alike, but have a different ideology, a different personality.”

For while twins are worshipped by the Yoruba, they are only worshipped when seen as a unit. The traditional belief is that twins are granted supernatural protection that extends to their family and tribe. But if one twin should die, this protection evaporates. The parents of a deceased twin often commission a Babalawo — comparable to a priest — to carve a wooden figure to represent the deceased twin, which they then care for as if it were a real person.

Life and death

The scene is complicated further when one looks at Nigeria as a whole, as the Yoruba’s celebration of twins is not shared by other tribes across the region.

“Other Nigerian precolonial cultures saw multiple births as a biological omen and a portent of bad will,” Tayo wrote in an artist’s statement.

This can be an issue of life and death. Speaking to Reuters last year, Stevens Olusola Ajayi, who runs the Vine Heritage Home Foundation shelter for children at risk of infanticide in the Nigerian capital of Abuja, said twin babies in certain cultures are killed with poisonous plants or abandoned in a room until they starve to death. When mothers die in childbirth, twins have been strapped to her body and buried.

Having a twin, then, means you are often defined by just that. In his artistic statement, Tayo writes: “Because of the myths surrounding twins, many people address twins as a single unit, defining their value to the tribe by their proximity and emotional intimacy between the pair. Individuality is frowned upon, and fraternal twins are considered less ‘authentic’ than identical twins.”

“I was trying to weigh the psychological balance between the pressure of having to be identical and the natural want to have a different and distinct mindset… Because being a Yoruba twin has a massive impact on how twins form and consider their own sense of identity,” Tayo said.

“I was interested in that question: What is it like to have one’s identity always defined by the presence of another?”

PoliticsFood Security: FG, AFD, Semmaris On Study Tour Of Lagos Market Systems by Dapagun(op): 9:05am On Jul 24, 2023
The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with Agence Française De Development (AFD) and SEMMARIS (the Technical Partner), has embarked on a study tour of markets in Lagos State towards understanding the market systems in order to support the government of Nigeria with a one-year technical assistance programme for the establishment of National Agri-Food Market Development Strategy.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Olatokunbo Emokpae, while welcoming the team to Lagos, explained that the technical assistance will define the strategic orientations of the Nigerian policy on the development of wholesale markets for fresh produce in urban areas to create a methodology for the modernization of wholesale trade to supply major cities and peri-urban areas while structuring the Nigerian agri-food value chain.

According to her, "The visit, which was in line with the tripartite agreement earlier signed between the Federal Government, AFD and SEMMARIS, also involves a one-year study which will run from Q1 2023 to Q1 2024, with special focus on the three largest urban consumption areas. It will also look at the whole value chains market ecosystem from rural to urban corridors in Nigeria, including Lagos-Ibadan, Kano-Kaduna, and Onitsha-Port-Harcourt.

The visit to the State, according to the team, was in furtherance of the bid to study the food value chains in Lagos thereby helping to reduce food spoilage, promote food storage and preservation, guarantee food security, and greater returns for farmers and investors in the agro-allied sector.

The members of the visiting team include Timothee Witkowski, International Project Manager, Rungis Marche International; Stephen P Allen, Food Sector Strategist, Jofreco International Limited and Christian Idahota, Head of Field Operations, Agramondi.

Recall that the Lagos State Government, as part of its food systems transformation agenda, has commenced the construction of a Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Hub on a 120 Ha parcel of land at Ketu-Ereyun, Epe area of the State. The project was borne out of the need to address food spoilage, storage and processing challenges as well as the commitment to ensuring food traceability.

PoliticsPeter Obi Posts Wrong Picture As Prof Saheed Aderinto, Deletes His Tweet by Dapagun(op): 4:02pm On Mar 12, 2023
Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi tried to congratulate Prof Saheed Aderinto, a Professor of History and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University, who recently won the $300,000 Dan David Prize—the largest history prize in the world. But there was a problem.

Peter Obi's verified handle posted the wrong picture. This is not the first time the 61-Year-Old former governor of Anambra will be posting wrong content via his twitter handle and then quietly delete it to avoid people alluding to his mistake.

This is happening as he assembles a legal team to fight his electoral loss which he claimed he won and was rigged out of.
