Despite this, we modelled for the National Assembly elections, which points to a Senate dominated by the APC and a House of Representatives with the PDP in the majority, leading to potential legislative gridlock in a divided 10th National Assembly. (Image 1)

The survey has attempted to account for demographics and voting numbers in each zone and their possible turnout to keep the citizenry aware of the issues pertinent to the coming 2023 elections. (Image 2)

It is hoped that this information will help people as well as enable institutional, civic and media stakeholders to make informed decisions that will benefit the future of #Nigeria.

We will publish a similar report on the governorship elections in the 28 Nigerian states that select their leaders along with the presidency in the lead-up to those elections in mid-March 2023.

This outcome, however, is complicated by the fact that @officialABAT is likely to do well in two of the country’s biggest voting states—Kano and Lagos—and the heavily populated south-west and north-west states, thereby winning the popular vote, but not reaching 25% in 24 states. (Image 1)

For all of the reasons enumerated above, we maintain our initial assessment from our two previous forecasts: Nigerians will need a second round to decide their next President definitively. (Image 2)

@KwankwasoRM may garner sufficient votes in Kano and some states in the north-central and north-west geopolitical zones to complicate the political math for other candidates on both the popular vote and the “Road to 24” measures.

Another observation is about #Nigeria’s waning confidence in INEC’s ability to deliver a free, fair and credible election. The relationship between the electorate and INEC appears to be influenced by the possible impact of insecurity on Election Day; (Image 3)

Another salient point is the declining interest in down-ballot elections. Most citizens are focused on the presidential election, owing to the power arrogated to the centre by #CFRN99. Interest in @nassnigeria elections was less than 20%. (Image 4)

For the first time since the 1960s, there are 3 competitive political blocs largely along the old regional divides.

Hence the latest survey, which was commissioned by @EiENigeria and conducted by @sbmintelligence, did not provide us with a clear front-runner.

The first 2023 election survey conducted by SBM was published in July 2022 and showed that only 41% of registered voters had collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs). (IMAGE 1)

This assumption of low turnout fed into our December 2022 projections, based on a 7,000-respondent survey. (Image 2)

The assumption of low turnout changed when, in January 2023, our 6,500-respondent survey on PVC collection showed a remarkable increase in PVC collection - 97%.

We believe that the surge in voter awareness done by
@inecnigeria and CSOs like Enough is Enough (EiE), through their #RSVP Campaign, have driven voter interest and bucked the low turnout trend in #Nigeria's elections.

Many respondents were clear about whom they felt would win the presidential contest in their state but were not straightforward about their candidate preferences. Furthermore, many registered voters told us that ethnicity and religion would play an important part in their choice.

This runs contrary to recent commentary, which suggests that #NigeriaDecides2023 will be #Nigeria’s first post-modern election, where substantial issues will determine voter choice.

The respondents also said that they expect vote buying despite recent technological and legislative changes to curb that. While an overwhelming majority of respondents claim that they won’t sell their vote, more than a third have experienced vote buying in the past.

The data suggest that @PeterObi and @Atiku could garner enough votes over a sufficient number of states across four of the country’s six geopolitical zones to meet the constitutional requirement of scoring 25% in at least 24 states. (Image 3 and 4)

PoliticsMile 12, Ketu, Ojota Unrest Under Control, Free Movement Restored — Lagos Police by Dapagun(op): 12:05pm On Feb 17, 2023
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed that the initial unrest that broke out at the Mile 12 area of Lagos State is under control.

The state police PRO also confirmed that free movement has been restored to the area.

It was earlier reported reported that fighting erupted in some areas on the popular Lagos-Ikorodu expressway in Lagos State over the scarcity of the new naira notes and the hardship the policy has thrown Nigerians.

It was gathered that suspected louts in Mile 12, Ketu and Ojota areas on the expressway, took to the road attacking commuters and creating chaos.

A driver, attached to one of the cab-hailing firms operating in the state who does not want his name in print over fears of harassment, said he had to turn into one of the streets due to the chaos.

Tweeps, who shared details of the ongoing fighting in the area, alleged they could hear sounds of gunshots.

However, Hundeyin, who initially confirmed the unrest, has now said that sanity has been restored to the area, adding that men of the Lagos State Police Command are on the ground to ensure no further breakdown of law and order.

Making this known via his Twitter handle, he wrote, “Free movement of vehicles and people fully restored. Our officers and men are still on ground to prevent any breakdown of law and order.”

Hundeyin also retweeted a tweet from a Twitter user who confirmed that sanity has been restored to the area.

The tweet read, “Road is clear now, na there I pass now to Ikorodu.”

PoliticsOgun PDP Crisis: I’m Still In The Governorship Race, Says Sowunmi by Dapagun(op): 5:23am On Feb 17, 2023
The crisis in the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn on Wednesday with a former governorship candidate in the party, Segun Sowunmi, saying he is still in the governorship race.

Sowunmi made the assertion in Abeokuta, the state capital during a day workshop for about 300 ward party mobilisers and collation agents from the 20 local government area of the state ahead of the general election

He added that he had instituted a case at the Supreme Court with the expression of optimism that he would emerge victorious as the governorship candidate of the party in the state.

The PDP stalwart tasked party faithful on unity of purpose, urging them to ensure an overwhelming victory for the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar in the oncoming election.

He however charged party members to go back to the wards and mobilise votes for the party.

Sowunmi also warned them against any form of manipulation during the election, just as he commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the reforms in the electoral processes in the country.

PoliticsTinubu: I Will Revive Ajaokuta, Dredge River Niger by Dapagun(op): 9:59am On Feb 10, 2023

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7iEbmKwdRI

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday promised to revive the Ajaokuta Steel Complex in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, if elected.
He also promised to dredge River Niger to enable ships berth in its inland ports.

Tinubu also said his government will prioritise development of mineral resources in the Confluence State.

Hailing the Supreme Court ruling on the old and new Naira denominations, the eminent politician said those who sought to make a political capital out of the currency swap have been shamed.

Tinubu spoke at a rally attended by a party faithful and supporters in Lokoja, capital of Kogi State.

At the rally were APC Vice Presidential Candidate Senator Kashim Shettima, APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, Governors Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger) and Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa).

The rally was also attended by APC National Women Leader, Dr. Betta Edu; Secretary of the Presidential Campaign Council, James Faleke; former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar and Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Unveiling an industrialisation plan, he said: “Hope is here. Ajaokuta resuscitation will be done. Dredging of Niger River will be done. Agriculture will be the source of our prosperity. North Central has the potential for great mineral industrialisation, we will work on that.”

Tinubu felicitated with the people of Kogi State and other Nigerians over the Supreme Court judgment on the currency swap impasse, saying those who wanted to take advantage of the situation have failed.

He said members of the opposition were counting on the unintended suffering caused by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy to play to their advantage.

Tinubu lauded the crowd for turning up for the event in spite of the challenges, urging them to repeat the same on the day of election.

He said the opposition wanted to take advantage of the people’s hardship.

Tinubu stresssed: “They even rejoiced when you cannot sell your products. You will never see hardship in your lives. You will see prosperity, you will see progress.

“This your determination, I want you to multiply it. On the 25th of February, there will be vote for president, for senators and House of Representatives members, it is in your hands now. But we have come to remind you, whether by Keke NAPEP, or by bicycle or even with your legs, you should go here in the morning. Cast your vote, be vigilant. Do your part, play your own role.”

Tinubu assured the electorate of the best deal when they elect him as president, promising to execute projects that will foster development.

He said: “I know how to do it. I am smarter than their candidate. I am the front runner, the best candidate. I know the road. I am a man who knows how to develop wealth, a man who keeps promises.”

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello recalled that the state had a good showing for the APC during the 2019 poll, saying the performance will be surpassed at the general election.

The governor also chided members of the opposition parties who, he said, were counting on the “unbearable” situation to reap support at the polls.

Bello said: “We have seen clearly between light and darkness. Some few elements decided to make life unbearable so that our party will be affected.

“Our leader made his stance clear to the whole country. He showed that he is with the people. Some people decided to make a political capital out of it.”

He described the cashless policy as “a good policy which some people want to turn around to inflict hardship on our people”.

Governor Bello said with the Supreme Court order, “hope has been renewed. Go ahead and use your money, the old and the new Naira.”

PoliticsTinubu Hails Nigerian Governors Over Supreme Court Ruling On CBN Naira Swap by Dapagun(op): 12:06pm On Feb 08, 2023
All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the Governors of the 36 states for standing on the side of the Nigerian people over the Central Bank new Naira and cashless policies that have subjected the masses to pains.

According to Asiwaju Tinubu, the Governors especially the APC Governors who instituted the suit against the CBN and Federal Government at the Supreme Court acted well on behalf of the hapless Nigerians who have been made to bear the brunt of Naira redesign policy that has been poorly implemented

The Supreme Court on Wednesday morning in a law suit brought before it by the governments of Zamfara, Kogi and Kaduna States gave an interim injunction against the CBN and Federal Government, allowing the old N200, N500 and N1000 to remain legal tender beyond February 10 deadline until the case is fully disposed.

Following the apex court ruling, Asiwaju Tinubu noted that the governors have saved the country from a needless political and economic crises and miseries which have clearly become the unintended consequences of the monetary policy of the apex bank.

Asiwaju Tinubu noted that the Supreme Court ruling coincided with the advisory of the International Monetary Fund urging for the extension of the deadline for the swap of the old naira notes, going by the problems being experienced across the country in getting the new notes.

"I want to salute the courage of our Governors and most especially the Progressives Governors in APC who acted to save our country from avoidable and dangerous political crises and social unrest which the Central Bank policy on new Naira notes has brought on our country.

“Our country was dangerously careering toward anarchy and political and economic shutdown. But with the Supreme Court interim ruling our country has been pulled back from the precipice. We thank our Supreme Court Justices for ruling wisely on the side of the people who have been subjected to undue agony and pains since this policy was announced.

"The Federal Government and relevant stakeholders can now sit down and work out better framework on how to proceed with the new policy without causing any social and economic disruption and inconvenience to our people. We have examples of other countries that have successfully and seamlessly changed their currencies to learn from.

“Those countries give a long time, at least 12 months to effect the currency change. They do not engage in CBN-like Fire Brigade approach.

"We have seen how a good policy can be poorly implemented to cause unintended problems for the people who should be the beneficiaries. While lessons have been learnt, we must now move on as a country and people with a Renewed Hope for a better tomorrow.

“The sole aim of my running to be the president of our country is to make life better and more abundant for our people and this is an ideal for which I will remain eternally committed to."

Asiwaju Tinubu called on the CBN to ensure that the Supreme Court ruling is effectively executed by taking all necessary steps to (i) ensure sufficient availability of Naira notes (whether old or new) and (ii) properly sensitising the public on the ruling and the consequent validity of old Naira.
