Career › Nigerian Freelancers — How Do You Send Invoices & Get Paid By Clients? by DareBabs001(op): 10:09am On Oct 14, 2025
Hello Nairaland family 👋🏾,

I’ve been talking with a few Nigerian freelancers lately — and there’s one thing that keeps coming up: getting paid professionally and easily.

Found out:
• Clients abroad want to pay in USD, but tools like Bonsai or Wave don’t support Paystack or local bank payments.
• Local clients often don’t take you seriously if you just send a Word or Google Doc invoice.
• It’s hard to track who has paid, who is owing, and when payments come in.
• Most foreign invoicing apps are either too expensive or don’t work well here.

I’m researching this because I’m thinking about building a simple web app made specifically for African freelancers — something that lets you:
• Create professional invoices in Naira or USD
• Add Paystack/Flutterwave payment links
• Automatically track payments & send reminders
• Works perfectly on your phone

I’m not selling anything yet, just trying to understand the real challenges.

👉 So if you freelance or hire freelancers in Nigeria, please tell me:
1. How do you currently invoice clients?
2. What frustrates you most about getting paid?

Your input could really help shape something useful for freelancers across Africa 🙏🏾
