In the spirit of Children’s day celebration, Poncho Language Initiative organised a French Language event for children which was poised to encourage the early learning of French Language in our schools.

The event which held on Wednesday 25th May 2016 at Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Kofo-Abayomi, Victoria Island, Lagos featured the unveil of a French Book for Children, titled J’apprends avec mes amis, (I am learning with my friends) authored by Lilian Ebele Ifemeludike.

In attendance were the Honourable Commissioner for Education of Lagos State (represented by Mrs Sewanu Ayodele Amosu), Her Excellency, The Wife of the Executive Governor of Lagos State (represented by Mrs Olufunke Kofo-Abayomi), the Wife of the Executive Governor of Anambra State (duly represented), the Director and the Cultural Consular of Alliance Française, the President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Managing Director, Franco-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

There was a cross-section of school children from primary and secondary schools across Lagos State who got copies of the book. AirFrance Nigeria and SevenUp Bottling Company provided lots of fun gifts to the children.

Let me start by saying that the oba disrespected his throne in the first place by uttering such vicious statements. If his throne be so sacred, then he should have known better than spewing abominable utterances on not just the igbo people but any human it may. On the other hand, I dont get it when the lagos ruling class act as though they have done the igbo race a favour by appointing a few igbos into their cabinet. Let me remind you that these are men of inestimable valor and have earned their place and voice in their careers. If anyone is doing anyone a favour, it will be the igbos in your cabinet who have decided to invest their intellectual resources and expertise in other to help achieve the lagos of your dreams. I dare say that before the arrival and settlement of igbos in Lagos state (pre and post civil war), lagos was not the beauty it has become today. Therefore, it is safe to say that the Igbos in lagos have contributed immensely to the growth and development of this fine city. Let no one get it twisted. Igbo are resilient and dogged hard workers who need nobody's favour to thrive and succeed even in the most challenging and unfavourable terrains.
